When Harper Moore and Cade Dawson realize they are expecting a child, they both understand that it’s time to leave the northern barrio located in what used to be El Paso, Texas. But where will their unborn child be safe, and how are they supposed to get there?
Three months after all of the lower orbital satellites crashed to Earth, society has crumbled. Law and order no longer exist. Harper and Cade have spent the first three months after the collapse helping the refugees in the barrio, but now it’s time to put their own family first.
An escape will mean walking across the Chihuahuan Desert, putting their lives in the hands of a stranger, and through it all, finding a way to cling to their humanity. Because if they aren’t able to do that, they will be no better than the savages who chase them through the pitch black, Texas night.
What place is safe, when the entire world is covered by a Veil of Confusion?
From USA Today Bestselling author Vannetta Chapman comes a survival series unlike any other.
Veil of Confusion is book two in a new post-apocalyptic survival thriller series from USA Today Bestselling Author Vannetta Chapman. An exciting contribution to the genre of disaster fiction, this is a series that will keep you reading late into the night.
Vannetta Chapman is a New York times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestselling author of over t0 novels. She has sold over one million copies and writes in a variety of genres that include dystopian, suspense, dystopian, romantic suspense, romance, and cozy mystery.
Chapman has 25 years educational experience as an English teacher at the high school and collegiate level. She currently resides in the Texas Hill Country where she writes full times.
This book starts off where the first book left off. You will see characters both new and old. The chaos in Texas is causing fright and unsafe life conditions to all of society. Where is refuge and safety? Harper Moore and Cade Dawson and their unborn child search for that refuge and find danger at every corner. Who can be trusted? Where should they go for refuge? Or are there any safe places left? The World is full of confusion and few answers. This is a great addition to the previous dystopian volume of the same series. It won't let you close the book until the end. Makes you wonder exactly how unlikely is such an event as what happened in this book???
I received a copy of this book from the author. All thoughts are my own.
A riveting continuation of the Kessler Effect series! Three more intriguing characters form a hesitant alliance as they battle street gangs and possibly rogue military during their search for a safe place to settle in post-apocalyptic Texas. I was ready to dive into book 3 but it isn't out yet! 😩
Veil Of Confusion by Vannetta Chapman is the 2nd Book in The Kessler Effects! This is another great book this can be read as a standalone or you can read them as a series! As the characters are wonderful in this book also I picked it up and could not put it down! I highly recommend reading this book You won't be disappointed It will keep you reading and turning the pages to see what is going to happen in this story next! This review is my own honest words! This was another great book!
Compared to some of today's dystopian and "end times" stories, the author writes a pretty mild story. Even though it isn't as gory and off-the-chart scary with aliens, etc., the story still causes one to pause and reflect on the status of civilization and man's continued ability to cope with circumstances as they exist without modern technology and conveniences. We know that even in our world man can quickly become violent and amass groups whose single minded behavior is that of controlling others and taking what they want from those who possess it.
In Veil of Anarchy we saw the beginning of a dystopian existence in Texas (and yes, world wide). In the second book, Veil of Confusion, we see that life in El Paso has become fraught with danger; and we follow Cade and Harper as they flee El Paso and begin their journey to seek a quieter, safer, more civil life.
They encounter varied dangerous obstacles and wind up in Alpine, a small town with a seemingly organized group of people with a sense of law and order.
The series consists of three novellas of roughly 200 pages each. I look forward to reading the third book to see the resolution of this story. Technology is gone. Vital infrastructure is gone. Law and order is hit and miss.
As usual I recommend highly Vannetta Chapman's stories. This series is basically good clean reading. It does, however, contain a few cuss words.
I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given.
Veil Of Confusion ( Kessler Effect #2 ) By Vannetta Chapman Veil Of Confusion is book two in the Kessler Effect. Mysteries and thriller, one you do not want to miss. Chapman is outdoing herself in this series. You will see some of the same characters from the first book in the series. Conditions are bad in Texas and is not safe anymore. Where can you find a safe place anymore? Harper Moore and Cade Dawson set out to see if they can find a safe place for them and their unborn child they have just found out about. Some says go North and some says east. What should they do? Who can they trust? I love this new addition to the first dystopian book. I was given a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I read Book 1 in this series and was looking forward to the continuation of the story. I still love the characters and am a fan of Chapman's handling of disturbing possibilities. I found this book, despite the title, to be full of hope. Humans are resilient in the face of immense difficulty, and innovative. I thought this book portrayed the positive aspects of a group of many different personalities and experiences deciding to come together for the good of the community they have created. I believe that is the strength of hope. I look forward to the third book, which I believe will be available in May. I was given a copy of Veil of Confusion as part of the street team for the book, but I did not promise to give it a review at all. These are my own thoughts, freely given.
This is the second book in the series and while it seems to be a stand alone book, it ties along seamlessly with the first book towards the middle. I love how Vannetta introduces new characters while maintaining the impact of the existing characters had from the first book. I highly recommend this series!
Just…wow. A newly wed couple puts their lives on the line to protect the life of their unborn child after “the fall.” Others will be affected by their choices - which always seem upright and sacrificial, though the moral foundation for these choices is somewhat unclear. I really admire Cade and Harper and the commitment they share. Their relationship is only months old, but their love for each other and their child is deep and strong, and it spills over into a blessing for others. I love how their story connects with the heroes I met in Veil of Anarchy…except for the sudden ending, and a long wait for the concluding book, Veil of Destruction! Chapman really keeps me on the edge of my seat and makes me look at life and decisions differently.
Thank you Vannetta and Kristy for providing me with the ARC of this book. This is beyond a 5 star read and gripped me from the very first sentence to the very last. Amazingly written and wonderfully researched this dystopian post-apocalyptic survival thriller, second in the Kessler Effect series is not to be missed. Not my usual genre but each of the books in the series has drawn me in and has me excited for the next one. Vannetta Chapman is a wonderful author and is mostly known for her Amish fiction books which are a treat in themselves. I think Vannetta could write a grocery list and it would probably be the most exciting thing to read. This book shows what a skilled writer Vannetta is and that she can write books of any genre. The characters introduced in this book were so charismatic and real and took us to a community we were already familiar and characters we were growing to know and love. I read this in one sitting and did not want to put it down at all not even to eat or drink. If you are new to this genre and like me, said, it's not for you, please read the first book and then read this one and I promise you will be hooked. If you are a Vannetta fan and a fan of this genre then y'all will know what I am saying. Fabulous book! Thank you Vannetta.
The characters from this book end up with characters from the first book and prequel. This keeps the story continuous. Explanations of the technology is complete without losing me. The description of how people react to the world falling apart and how they choose to react to new circumstances is interesting.
I am really liking the Kessler effect series. I’m anew fan of Vannetta Chapman and I’m really glad I decided to try her books. If you like post apocalyptic but with hope, then this is the series for you.
Veil of Confusion - Author Vanetta Chapman Once I started reading I did not want to put it down. I liked that there is an update on characters from the first book Veil of Anarchy. Both are great books... Out of 4 stars I would give it 4 out of 4. Can't wait for the next book
Powerful story of survival when the world changes in an instant. The mystery of who to trust, who to let into the inner circle, and who to believe about the small and large daily decisions kept the characters alert and constantly observing their surroundings. This story captured me from the beginning to the end. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
This is a very interesting series of books. They are page turners. Very suspenseful. What would you do if the world crashed? Read these books to find out how the characters survived or did they?
Book Review: “Veil of Confusion (Kessler Effect Book 2)” Kindle Edition by Vannetta Chapman (Authoress) Format: Kindle Edition This is an entertaining sequel to “Book One” of this series. It involves a 500-mile trip to Dallas, Texas in hopes of finding other family members and bringing them back to Alpine.
At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about this book. I was expecting to be back in the town of Alpine, and wasn't there. I missed the people.
But then I got a couple chapters in, and it didn't matter anymore.
Whew! With this book, you get deception, betrayal, murder, apocalyptic times, battles, intrigue, running for lives, and more.
I was hooked. Not from the first page, but it didn't take long. And what's more, my husband has very much enjoyed these books, too. I really hope we get to continue seeing this series and these people.
And Alpine does come into play in this book, too. I love the setup that the town has. Their leaders and the roles each person plays. I look forward to reading more about it all!
~I was given a complimentary copy of this book. No positive review was required.~
Warning: this isn't a Christian fiction book. There is cussing.
Cade and Harper lived in El Paso, Texas. They new they had to leave to find better living arrangements. The journey led them to many terrible truths, and their lives will change. I thought i skipped a book in the series but keep reading the answers are there. I think i enjoyed this book better than book 1.
But, it's not a continuation of the prequel I'd just read. It's set months later and with different main characters. So, I knocked off one star. It is a good story, and the characters are likeable. You can read a synopsis in most other reviews
An enjoyable read, some stuff was a bit off ( really? They had to think about staying because there were so many better options in the dessert?)but entertaining anyway. Not learning a whole lot of detailed information about living in an apocalypse but it does show structure. Characters are ok no one in this book is annoying or malicious but still not drawing me to them enough to care if they get killed off. While not at the top of my must read list will continue with the series to see where it goes.
Each new book in this series gives you something new to think about! I've really enjoyed each one. This story brings an outsiders look at Alpine. Great read!
This story introduces Harper and Cade who are in a Barrio around El Paso. They have made a decision to move on to a new location. Their morning begins with them meeting with the leader of the Barrio to get her blessing. She tells them that they should out heading in a different direction that they had planned. They began their journey, but eventually ran into a location where they were ambushed. Their luck changed when Liam wound up protecting their backs. He told them that Tia, the Barrio leader wanted him to accompany them on their journey. In reality, Liam had another purpose why he wanted to go with them. They continued their journey and as the got to GMNP they discovered a government internment camp and also learned what Liam's purpose was.
As they made new plans, they discovered a camp of a mother with her two children. The mother had been shot by the government troops and was dying. Once the mother died, Harper and Cade took the small children with them and Liam changed his mind about what his orders said and went with them on their journey. Previously they had been walking, but at the campground, they found a jeep which they got running and decided to use on the remainder of their journey. They came to a yown which seem to be deserted but ran into a group called Weatherman. A gun battle ensued and Harper was wounded. Things were looking bleak, but when they arrived at Alpine, they brought Harper to the doctors to be worked on.
To discover what events happened in Alpine and how thry were welcomed, then you must read this book.
A beautiful story of Cade and Harper. When they find out they’re expecting a baby, they wish to move. They have to make a decision and how to get there. Absolutely enjoyable as you take the journey with them to their new home.
