Werewolf Awakening: The Hunt Begins

Rate this book
Desire. Double Cross. Murder.

Introducing Florianna Erew.

This beautiful werewolf is on the prowl for a mate, preferably a Hungarian man with werewolf genes. Meanwhile, the dreaded Exterminators from the Old Country seem to have been reorganized to capture and behead werewolves as their ancestors had centuries ago.

Will Florianna find love with Laszlo Veres, the homicide detective eager to solve the rash of brutal murders in the area? Or will Viktor Balogh, her childhood hero, finally track her down and have her, if not of her own free will then by force? Will she escape the Exterminators?

Find out in the exhilarating first book of the Full Moon trilogy. This unique werewolf tale meshes plausible real-world relationship situations and murder investigations, with the desires of those covertly living the supernatural lifestyle to create an exhilarating killer-good thriller.

About the author

Shirley resides in West Jordan, Utah, USA, with her husband and their four-legged children.

She is a graduate of the West Jordan Citizens Police Academy, a CERT member (Community Emergency Response Team) and a VIPS (Volunteers In Police Service) with the West Jordan police.

Shirley enjoys the variety of “research” opportunities her stories offer. She’s been on police “ride alongs,” conducted interviews with law enforcement experts regarding matters such as escaping handcuffs without a key and creating “dead man switches” for bombs.

With the help of willing accomplices, she’s role-played scenes, including being “kidnapped” and thrown into a car, zipped up in a body bag, and locked in the trunk of a car, only to name a few of her stunts!

One might be surprised by the many experiments she has done on herself—for novel research, of course—involving handcuffs, duct tape, chain, rope, hazmat suits, night vision headlamps…

Keeping that in mind, when you read her novels you may wonder how many of the stunts described in the story Shirley might have tried on herself, or someone else ... but she’ll never tell! Or will she? Visit her website to find out more.

I received a review copy of this book from the author. What an intriguing take on a shifter story! I was mesmerized from the first chapter. The author effortlessly blends werewolf folklore with a compelling and suspenseful thriller. Be warned - this story is not for the faint of heart. This story was action packed and fast paced, with some very dark and creepy undertones - such as werewolves openly hunting and feeding on humans. These “hunting and feeding” scenes were quite explicit, but actually leant a realistic feel to the story, and the dark creepiness as a whole worked incredibly well. The characters all had depth and substance and were very engaging and I connected with them all, especially Florianna, Szasza and Laszlo. The writing was smart and sharp and the story had enough twists and turns that it kept me guessing until the end. And the author added just enough romance to lighten the darkness and add a bit of emotional drama. The author has created a complex and spellbinding werewolf thriller that you can sink your teeth into. A fantastic read!

First of all I got this book free from the author and I have to say I'm glad I did as I really enjoyed it. I've read a lot of shifter books but this is the first one that was specifically werewolves who ate human flesh (bad guys so I didn't shed a tear!) The main characters Florianna, her grandmother Zsazsa, Laszlo and Brandon are the good guys with the Balough guys as the baddies. I got drawn into the story quickly and loved the interaction between the characters, it wasn't a fill 4 pages full of sex then 2 of actual story as some of these type of books can be which I really appreciated. A thumbs up from me and I'll definitely read more of this series.

Overall, I found it to be an intriguing idea. But the execution was a bit strange. Why you would spend the opening chapters with characters who would become the antagonists, but then ignore them completely until halfway through the book? There just seems so much explanation and setup that the plot gets bogged down when it isn't necessary; (such as nearly every character suddenly has were genes and didn't know it). It was a ok read, but definitely needs work. Free copy provided by author via Voracious Readers.

I really liked this book. It was well written and not predictable. I had no idea what the characters were going to do. There were times when I thought that Florianna would get back together with her ex.
So, Shirley really kept me on my toes.
Would read this again

I really liked this book. At first i was a bit put off with the people eating but what the hell they were bad guys anyway haha. I got sucked in pretty quickly though and really enjoyed ZsaZsa and Florianna. I will definitely continue this series!

This book was entertaining. It had some unexpected turns in it, and I loved that the lead character was a strong woman. The romance of the story was great, and there was just enough of fantasy in there to keep things interesting. Overall, I liked this book.

I enjoyed the different take on werewolf traits and lycanthropy. Though it took me a while to get into the book once I was engrossed in the story I didn't want to put it down. I would recommend to anyone interested in stories of werewolves that also want to read something that's a refreshing new angle. I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.

I received this book from voracious readers only as a promotion. The novel is a great one. Great pacing. I thought Tybee mixing of attributes to be a nice change from the average werewolf lore. If you're looking for something different from the normal werewolf story this is the book for you!

A werewolf love triangle sounds like a good read. Unfortunately, I found the book to have too many characters and a never ending plot. There was no sense of tension in the love triangle (or even the feeling that one of the guys ever had a chance); and the plot was both weak and overdone. While you need to set the stage a bit in a first book, there was way to much information given at the outset. I felt that there was enough material that could have been spread over multiple books rather then just one. To add insult to injury, it also felt that the book would never end because a problem would arise just when I thought the tale was finished. The characters lacked depth as there was very little internal thoughts or anything that gave them a drive for their decisions. It was all very plot driven, which works well on TV, but not so much in books. All in all, I was not too impressed.

I received this book from Voracious Readers. Unfortunately, I did not finish this book. This does not happen often for me. I attempted several times over the last few months. I just could not get into it at all. The writing was awkward, the reveals were predictable and poorly executed, and I did not have any sense of realism or connection with any of the characters. The author’s craft needs some polishing in my opinion.

This was the first book I've read from Shirley Spain. I struggled to get into the story, but persevered, and it got easier as the tale progressed. I thought the idea of different attributes of "werewolves" strange, particularly as the heroine is being wooed by two totally different types.

I'm tempted to read the next episode, just to explore the unfolding relationships.

I received a copy of this book from voraciousreadersonly.com. It was a great werewolf story. I love the writing this author does and was skeptical about her change to a werewolf story. She did not disappoint it had all the action, humor and romance I have come to expect from her writing.
