She knew he was back. But was it for love...or revenge?
Fifteen years ago, Nicole and Paul were deeply in love-she was a college student and he was a brilliant pianist. They were passionately happy, until one violent, terrifying night changed their lives forever. Now she's a different person, with a different life, but her past continues to haunt her. And though Paul was reported dead in a car crash, Nicole can't shake the feeling that the man she loved is still out there somewhere alive. Following the sudden death of her father, a series of mysterious murders shake her world, threatening her safety, as well as her sanity. And somehow, these horrific killings are tied to Nicole -- now she must find out why -- and uncover the shadowy figure who stalks her before he makes his deadly claim...
Carlene Thompson is an author of suspense thriller novels.
Her first book, Black for Remembrance, was published in 1990 by Little, Brown and was well received. Her books are suspense novels, often with romantic elements and many take place in Thompson's home state of West Virginia. Her books often feature animals, which she bases on animals she knows in real life.
Another great thriller by Carlene Thompson. The thrills start in the first chapter and keep you guessing throughout the whole book. There were a few times I thought I had things figured out and then something else would happen to change my mind. The chapters ended so suspensful, that it makes you want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen next. In the last few chapters of the book, I did figure out who the killer was, but I still had some doubts until the end. I have read four books by this author and she is never a disappointment. I look forward to reading all of her other books.
This is the first book I've read by this author. I took it out from my library on a whim, and I'm so glad I did. The action starts right off, and she keeps the suspense rising so that you have to read the next chapter so you know what happens. Very unpredictable ending. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I don't want to talk about the plot too much, but it was a good one! Everything made sense, so I wasn't sitting there thinking, "Where did that come from?"
This book is really great for a rainy/lazy day. What I really liked about it was that Thompson made you suspect a lot of people, so you were never really confident in your assumption of who the killer was. I definitely was surprised!
Overall, a highly recommended book! I hope her other books are as good. 5 stars
I really really enjoyed this book! It kept me on the edge of my seat. From start to finish there were so many red herrings just when I was sure I had it all figured out something would change my mind. I did briefly suspect the killer in the beginning but quickly changed my mind and was surprised by the ending! I would definitely read more from this author!
T his was an edge of your seat, nail biting book. It had me guessing through the whole book on who the killer was. Every time I thought I had figured it out, the person either died or had an alibi. Great book.
I have yet to read a story by this author that I haven't absolutely loved! She creates these highly suspeseful stories that keep you gasping for air and guessing until the very end! Highly recommend her books!!
Too many characters made this one a little confusing to read but the suspense is morethan adequate, especially as you near the end. I'd definitely read more of Thompson's books.
This book was a fun thriller, although it didn't entirely take me on a "roller coaster ride" like many thriller reads have before. The mystery was definitely interesting and kept building so that I greatly wanted to know whodunit.
I was less than thrilled with the reveal of our antagonist. I thought the motives were shoddy at best. Honestly, I rolled my eyes while reading the reasons for committing the crimes because it felt so flimsy. Some of the other potential killers seemed to have a better motive and would have resulted in much more of an exciting reveal, thus a more thrilling ending. What it boils down to is I was disappointed by the bad guy.

All'inizio questo libro mi aveva intrigata molto.
Seems like the book could have used more editing. Lots of little instances where someone soills wine before they even open the bottle, etc..
The mystery is fun but there's a lot of unnecessary drama and doesn't add to the story and is all pretty obvious false leads. The big twist in the end sucks but it's fun on the way there. I might recommend to a friend.
I really loved this mystery. The characters were very realistic. I figured out the murderer about half way through the book, but enjoyed the rest of the story that took me to that finale. I would recommend this book to others.
This is an amazing book. I almost fell out of my reading chair when I found out who the killer was. What a surprise!! Carlene Thompson is one of my favorite authors and of now!

The second half was more interesting than the first. I kept asking myself why Nicole wasn't trying (harder) to reconnect with Paul if she was so sure he was back. That was probably my biggest disbelief, along with a couple other small issues in the plot.
There are so many twists and turns in the plot as to keep the reader in suspense until the very end. I would recomend this book to anyone who is looking for a good mystery novel with a romantic twist to it.
Not bad but a little too formulaic. I would have given it 4 stars, but it became too hokey in the end. I love Carlene Thompson, but she has produced much better work in the past.
A marvelous page turner, this book is!!! Lots of murder and mayhem and suspense throughout the story! Read it with the lights on, definitely! LOL!!! Highly recommended! Carlene Thompson is becoming one of my favorite writers!
So many red herrings in this book, you're in danger of crushing one when you turn the page. Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. I think character integrity was sacrificed a bit to keep the reader guessing. I liked this fast paced thriller book. Three and a half stars
