She left her whole world behind to find the one thing that really matters.
Jane Mitchell has many dreams for her life, but living in the seventeenth century was never one of them. Unknowingly transported through time by the meddling witch, Morna, Jane chooses to stay in the past so she can remain in her beloved nephew’s life. Castle life doesn’t really suit her, and Jane quickly finds that her love for her family isn’t enough to fill her hungry soul. Eager for purpose, she takes work at the village inn. One frigid evening, she takes in the most infuriating man she’s ever met…never suspecting for a moment that he could be the one her soul hungers for.
Adwen MacChristy doesn’t want to be laird of Cagair Castle. With a youth spent traveling the world and sleeping beneath the stars in the company of loose women, nothing weighs on Adwen’s heart like knowing the life he loves is about to come to an end. He would rather spend his days as a penniless wanderer than take on the responsibilities handed to him by his father. On his last night of freedom, Adwen stops at the inn near McMillan Castle and meets the only lass to ever deny his advances, bewitching him in an instant. Suddenly, he finds himself believing that responsibility might not mean a life spent in chains if he has a fiery lass like Jane by his side.
Will Jane allow herself to fall for a man who is the very embodiment of the reckless life she left behind, or will fate make the decision for her when it sends her through time once again?
Bethany Claire is the USA Today Bestselling Author of the Scottish time travel romance novels in Morna’s Legacy Series.
Bethany’s love of storytelling has been a lifelong passion but, convinced it would serve her best to follow a “conventional” career path, she tucked that passion away and went off to college.
Fast forward four years and about six major changes later, she realized the stories simply were not going to stay tucked away. Months away from graduating with a degree in elementary education, she finally realized writing was the only career that would make her happy.
So one day in the middle of a summer education course, she got up in the middle of class and walked to the registrar’s office and withdrew from the university on the spot. Since then, she has devoted herself to writing full time and is following her dreams.
This is by far my favourite book out of the series so far. Jane is my favourite heroine yet, there’s something about her that I just connected with and that made me want to root for her. Her spirit and her fire make her a really easy character to love! I really enjoyed her connections with other characters as well, it added a very interesting aspect to the story.
A sad disappointment. I would have rated this a 1 star had it not been for the little bits and pieces of humor.
I liked: 1. Bits of humor 2. Orick 3. Adwen and Jane didn't play foolish games when they decided to finally make a go of a relationship. 4. I like the cover.
Issues: 1. Parts of the story seemed pointless- just there to try and make the story continue on. 2. The 1st and 3rd person point of views killed it for me. It messed with the flow of the story with the switching. In Adwen's head, it flowed well. In Jane's - I couldn't wait to be over her. 3. The time jumps- too much of it so it glosses over the parts that would have been beneficial or added more to story. 4. Everything was too easy. It needed more angst. 5. Cooper- way too mature for his age- though I know the some kids can be that dang smart, it just didn't work for me.
I read 82% of this book and struggled the entire way. This series is awful, and this book is worse than the previous books. I would recommend not reading. It isn't even a well written trashy romance novel.
It seems Love Beyond Compare was a little to rushed and the characters not all that well developed. We see a great deal of Grace's six year old Cooper, but Jane's story does not wrap up as suitably as it could. Although this is a full length novel, it honestly felt like a novella.
This was entertaining but I don't know I wanted more. I felt the story line was a bit weak not as detailed. However I wouldn't be against reading the other stories.
Morna's Rouge is the sweet and clean version of 'Love Beyond Compare' by Bethany Claire. This is for the readers who prefer clean language in their stories and love scenes that stay behind closed doors.
Jane Mitchell has always been a dreamer, but living in the seventeenth century was never one of her fantasies (especially for a 21st century girl who really loves her modern consciences). Transported through time against her will one night by the meddling witch, Morna, Jane chooses to stay in the past to remain near the family she loves most. Still, the castle life is not fulfilling her and making her happy, and Jane realizes she needs to so something about it. She needs a purpose in life. She's determined to make her own way and takes work at the village inn never suspecting for one moment just how much one guest can and will change her life. The last thing Adwen MacChristy wants to be be is the laird of Cragair Castle. He wants to wander. He wants to spend his days traveling the world and sleeping beneath the stars. Nothing hurts him more then knowing his days of adventure are about to come to a screeching halt. On his last night of freedom , Adwen stops at the inn near McMillan Castle and meets the only woman to ever truly bewitch him. For the first time in his life, he begins to believe that a life of responsibility might not be so bad if he has the first lass like Jane by his side. Will Jane and Adwen be able to get over the odds and make a go of it? Can Morna intervene in time to fix all the problems that have arisen or will she leave them to take care of themselves? Once again Bethany Claire has done it again. I've said it before and I'll say it again she is the queen of time travel and I love her books. They captivate me from the very beginning until the very end and I can't wait to read the next one
Morna's Rouge is the sweet and clean version of 'Love Beyond Compare' by Bethany Claire. Our main character Jane, is a modern girl in every sense of the term and being transported back in time, to never see New York or drive her sports car again is not sitting well with this lady. But, this time is where her family is, so she is making the best of it. She is not the type of girl to hang around in the castle doing nothing all day so she gets a job at the inn... Not for money, but because she is maybe a little bored. In comes Adwen MacChristy soon to be laird of Cragair Castle, a position he is not happy about. Adwen is a bit of a lady's man and usually gets what he wants, but not with our fair Jane. The sparks fly for both of them but they have to get past a few things. Jane doesn't think he could settle down and Adwen is not sure he wants to. Read the book and find out how they get past everything and fine true love.
What happens when you meet someone who basically tells you to take a hike? Well in this case if you find that you are experiencing love at first sight then you have to work for it. This is what happened to Adwen and his love is Jane. Now this is a very romantic book and you will need the Kleenex because it is a bit of a tear jerker. You have humor and helpers in the form of Cooper, Orick, Isabel and a few more. In addition to the love between Jane and Adwen you have a sick lady who needs help and Adwen provides help with a twist! Read this excellent book and I know the next will be just as good!
I really enjoyed this book but I'm not sure if it could be called a complete stand-alone as I was confused as to what went on before and how she and her family ended up there.
I didn't like the hero Adwen at first. Sleeping with all those women-eww-and then falling in love so quickly with Jane. He seemed too fickle for that.
I liked that Jane was so feisty and modern, but she fell for him awfully fast too. I loved that they had chemistry together, but felt the ending was too rushed for my liking. Still, I may start at book 1 just to see all that I have missed.
It was refreshing and just what I needed, jumping back into this series. I've been in a bit of a reading slump and this book brought me out of it!
If you love time travel romance, especially set in Scotland, then please, check out this series!! Its oh so enjoyable. Its not historically accurate but that's honestly what I love about these books.
Oh my gosh, this is book 7 of Morna’s Legacy and it is even better than than the previous books. It is a marvelous time- travel, romance, historical fiction adventure and I love the entire series! The characters are incredible and the plot grabbed me from the very beginning. Now, I must get book 8, immediately, because the cliffhanger has raised my hopes and my heart rate. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Excellent story of fantasy time travel. Lose yourself in the Scotland Highlands in the 17th century. A little humor, a little suspense, a lot of love and wonderful characters! Bethany has done it again with her 5th book in the Morna Series. Lily Collingwood NAILES the narration!! Don't miss this series!
This pivotal book in this series is so riveting on many levels. Truly an adventure with the character Cooper, who continues to mystify and charm everyone. It also spotlights two incredible characters of Jane (who is one tough woman) and Adwen the rogue who would be Laird. If ever there was a story to lose your heart over it is this one.
This is part of the Morna's Legacy Time Travel series that I love. There are around 12 books and I love all of them that include people traveling back and forth in time in Scotland. Each book is based on a certain couple helped with love by Morna but they all intact with each other. Some are based more on people moving back in time and some move forward but they all interact together.
This was a tearful story...It was really good but there was some pitfalls..Downside was when they went to the future she did not write that very well confusing but overall a good book..Four stars
Whether you read this "sweet" story or the original, you will come to love Jane, Adwen, Orick, Gregory, Isobel, and Cooper. Bethany Claire's characters come to life and charm you with the story of how all their lives intersect.
Ummm. I've read this series from boredom. The writing gets better as the series goes on. I like the characters, but after reading Diana Gabaldon, this seems more like a high school girl wrote them. (I'm sorry Bethany!)
I really enjoyed this book, but I can't get passed the feeling that somehow a book was skipped. It really threw me off as so much happened that I missed. I hope I figure it out and find it!
This book was very emotional. I was so drawn into the characters I found myself in tears numerous times. I can’t wait to read the next in the series. Love this series.
Loved this book. I really enjoy the time travel with the romance and mystery. Great character development with both original and new characters. Look forward to remaining books in series.
My favorite so far. This book has more humor and more tragedy than the others. The relationships are different with the characters and you truly don't think it will be a happy ending. Much deeper.
