War of the Gods is the eighth book in the Network Series. This series-culminating story will sweep you away with epic magic and wild places.
My world revolves around my husband (who is a major hottie), my precious kids, my Vizsla’s who act like children, and the mountains.
I wear hiking boots instead of heels when I need to feel powerful, and on a bad day, I love a weightlifting workout. Actually, I love it on a good day.
I don’t eat bread because my thyroid doesn’t like it, although there are days I miss it. Especially ciabatta. Sweet potatoes are kind of my thing. Cookies too.
I write because I never stopped.
Author of The Network Series, The Dragonmaster Trilogy, and The Coffee Shop Series.

War Of The Gods This is the one we’ve been waiting for - War Of The Gods. And, it does not disappoint - Katie has done it again. Bianca’s magic will surprise you as she realizes the power she has, but will it be enough. The forest makes you swell with pride, also tears as you see what it can do to help save Alkarra.

This book, ohhhhh, this book!!!! What an ending but yet a new beginning! The WOTG is thrilling, passionate, terrifying, and heart-wrenching. You will not regret buying this one in any way, shape, or form!! To see the culmination of such power is amazing and beautiful even in its heartfelt agony. You'll love it!!!
Ohh my! All has been leading up to this epic battle! This book was amazing! Even though we have read a lot about Bianca Monroe, it never gets old, or boring, it only gets better and better! What an amazing book! This story has taken so many twists and turns! If you have not started the series that leads to this saga… what are you waiting for! I promise it will not disappoint!!!
Boom!!! Nailed it! Looove epic and wild magic WOTG is this and more. For me it feels like all the riveting books that have come before the War of the Gods has been an acculmination of Bianca's life-threads that has brought her to the incredible witch she is in this story. This magically crafted tale pulled me in and wouldn't let me go until I had felt all its exhilarating adventures, heart-aching trials, and impossible challenges that left me spent in the best way. Katie continues to deliver rich and multilayered characters with her lyrical writing, no fluff or wasted words here. If you love deeply considered magic systems, storylines that respect the readers intelligence and characters that are never predictable, the world of Alkarra is for you.
This book was everything I was hoping for and more. The gods are waging war on Alkarra, and Bianca is at the center of it. Putting everything on the line, she and her family, friends, and communities must defeat Ventis and Tontes or lose everything. Heartbreaking at times, terrifying at others, this is a wild ride and a perfect conclusion to the Network Saga. I’m so happy to know that there is a book of short stories coming soon to help tie up some loose ends.
This was an exciting book. Would make a good movie. Gods, goddesses, witches and forest creatures are at war. People and homes are lost. And, romance is alive.
War of the Gods, the much anticipated 4th novel of The Network Saga is here. When an adventure is as epic as The Network Saga ends, the reader expects closure. The resolution should be so climactic that the reader is left reeling with emotions and finds it difficult to let this place and these characters go. Katie Cross does just that in War of the Gods.
There are invisible enemies threatening to use all the power available to them to claim Alkarra as their own. That is a lot of power when the enemies are gods. The goddesses banished the gods many millennia ago. The goddesses have maintained control of Alkarra ever since. To take Alkarra, the gods must attack one goddess – Deasylva, goddess of Letum Wood, the heartbeat of Alkarra. Unfortunately, Deasylva is no longer in Letum Wood. Only Bianca and the trees and creatures of Letum Wood are there, no goddess. Bianca has spoken to Deasylva on occasion, but now, when Bianca needs her most, Deasylva is nowhere to be found
The Networks must first decide whether to believe Bianca’s story about Alaysia, land of the gods. After all, she has a reputation for being a bit wild. If they choose to believe her, they must decide whether their grievances with one another can be put aside to protect Alkarra. If the witches cannot call a truce and work together, they will lose everything. At the same time, if they choose to believe this outrageous story about gods and demigods that they have never seen, they risk looking like fools for following the “Lady Witch of Letum Wood.” The High Priestess must find a way to bring together a network with borders closed to all other networks, a network populated by witches who no longer have magic, and networks who may or may not want anything to do with the Central Network, the one network in which the High Priestess believes Bianca.
When I asked readers to describe War of the Gods in one word, the answers I received, were spot on for me. I am not sure if I could choose just one. The author answered with “exhausting.” Exhausting is a great word for Katie Cross to use. Alkarra is her world. She created it and built it from a moment in time when an idea entered her head. She has developed these, many with back stories, and some from childhood through the teenage years and into adulthood. I can only imagine the emotions she must feel at letting Alkarra go. Readers answered with words such as exhilarating, nerve wracking, rollercoaster, brutal, alive, magic. There were other responses, but for the sake of time and space, I am not including everything. Suffice it to say, using one word to describe the ending of the epic Network Saga is difficult.
War of the Gods is filled with mystery, love, bitterness, hatred, and more action than anyone ever expected. Like all of Cross’s books, there is one more thing that weaves its way through War of the Gods. There is a lesson. Cross so subtly includes lessons we could all use. She allows her readers to look within themselves and see themselves in her stories. She also uses these lessons to help readers believe in themselves and what they can do rather than focusing on what they cannot do.
What makes Katie Cross so special is not just her character development or settings. All authors have some of that in their books. If these aspects of a story are excluded, the authors do not sell books. Katie Cross, unlike any other author with whom I have had the honor to communicate and get to know, has not only built the relationships in her books, but also built relationships with her readers. Her readers believe in her. They are always there for each book to support her and congratulate her and tell her what they think of the book – the good and the bad. What is even more amazing about these readers is that they have formed a family among themselves. They speak to Katie during their regularly scheduled “Coffee with Katie” (CWK) Zoom calls. They support one another. If one is in need, they help each other. They cheer for the happy times and offer support during difficult times. These are not readers, they are Alkarrans. They own these characters. They live in Alkarra They feel what the characters feel. They cheer and cry while reading Katie Cross’s books. Katie has readers from all over the world who are part of this family. Katie invites everyone to join, and she knows all the ones who attend “CWK” regularly. She knows about their families. Some have shared their personal stories with her. She never fails to give a supportive word or an email that lifts the readers up and lets them know that this is a family, and they are there for each other. They are the perfect example of the fact that blood does not always make a family. It is the relationships we build that make a family.
If you are new to Katie Cross Fantasy and Alkarra, go back to FLAME, DRAGONMASTER TRILOGY BOOK 1. Get to know the original Isadora and Sanna, sister witches who were raised without magic. Follow their evolution into two of the most powerful witches in all Alkarra. Once you finish the DRAGONMASTER TRILOGY, read MILDRED’S RESISTENCE, and then move on to the NETWORK SERIES, which begins with MISS MABEL’S SCHOOL FOR GIRLS. Learn why Isadora has waited years for Bianca Monroe to arrive at Miss Mabel’s and see how Isadora helps Bianca grow into the witch she is today.
Are you ready for war? Or maybe a little romance? Oh I know…dragons!? Who doesn’t love a story with all the things even gods. Oh how do the gods start a war or ever wonder what they use to fight ? Some very good answers in the War of Gods: Katie is a wonderful word weaver and does and amazing job with storytelling as she narrators the book as well. I have loved, laughed, cried and even grown along with these characters. It is a journey I truly recommend.
Get ready to have all your emotions taken on a wild ride. You will experience new depths in all the relationships that take place in Alkarra. Bianca discovers more about the power she carries and learning to let go and trust herself and the forest to handle what needs to be done to combat the gods. And as always Bianca handles the fight with determination and perseverance. It is an explosive ending to the saga. Katie just continues to surprise and delight us in every new book.
All the events of the previous three books come together to create an amazing, powerful conclusion to this tale.
Bianca’s growth over the course of this series, both personally and in her changing magic, is so artfully done. When it all truly comes together, you want to stand up and cheer at the beauty of it.
There is loss and sorrow, grit and determination, as one always finds in Ms. Cross’ books. The final act is a rush of nail-biting action and terror as the gods make their big move, only to find Bianca, Letum Wood and all of Alkarra standing in their way. What a finale!
So good to have Bianca and Merrick together again. Life has really changed in 3 yrs and this book brings out the evilness of gods and demigods. How can they be defeated and will Bianca lose everything. I could barely put this book down—even turned the TV off just to read. Great book for all ages and hope you read from the beginning—thanks Katie Cross—on the a couple more of your books on my Kindle!!
War of the Gods has all the best strengths of a Katie Cross novel: distinct characters conveyed with emotional depth and understanding; a powerful central villain; great suspense; and nail-biting tension that propels you to read to the end. In War of the Gods, we see Bianca grow into her full power, as she tries to let go of her self-doubt and fear. Those of you who have read the Network Series and the Network Saga will understand Bianca's fear of losing those whom she loves. It's truly extraordinary that in a world of fantasy (with witches, gods, and demi-gods), Katie manages to convey the true humanity of her characters. You'll find yourself laughing out loud at times; my favorite line was "It's time to call the dragons," the fantasy equivalent of sending in the cavalry. You'll also find yourself crying at times, as many characters deal with the pain of loss. We have love, warfare, and teeth-grinding suspense, as the novel moves us towards its end. Hang on. It's a great ride.
What a great read! Bianca is one of my favourite characters and she never fails to keep me guessing what she’ll do next. I loved going through her personal growth as she learns the depth of her power as she battles Tontes and Ventis. Keep the Kleenex close by as Katie sends us on a roller coaster of emotional ups, downs, twists and turns.
Another wild ride with Bianca. This book shows the true power of Bianca and you’re there with her as she learns just how much she is able to control and just how magical her forest really is. I’m excited for the next book—the finales—as you’re left with so many questions at the end!
Excellent end to The Network Saga series. But I hate to say goodbye to these characters. Bianca seems like a friend at this point as do so many of the characters. Epic series!
