CALL IT MERRY was just what I needed to kickstart my holiday reads. I loved visiting Sterling Mill and loved Megan and Clay’s second chance, opposites attract, small town romance. Throw in all of the town’s Christmas festivities and you have the perfect recipe for a self-proclaimed grinch to fall in love with the girl who loves the holidays as much as her family’s candy shop.
We learn that Megan and Clay first meet at a wedding where their best friends marry one other. After a night of giving in to the attraction they both feel, Megan leaves the next morning, knowing that Clay will go back to his life that’s not in Sterling Mill, thus protecting her heart from being broken by the attractive lawyer from out of town. The thing is, though, they each haven’t stopped thinking of the other since the wedding. When Clay comes back to visit, he and Megan find that the attraction is still very much alive and well. Clay’s not a fan of the holiday festivities, so Megan takes it upon herself to show him the true magic of Christmas. But when the snow melts and the holiday lights go out, will they be able to overcome the distance between them?
I love pretty much any romance that’s set in a small town, and CALL IT MERRY was no exception. Their traditions and town shenanigans—along with some colorful characters!—made me want to take a trip over to Sterling Mill for myself. More than just the setting, though, I really enjoyed seeing Megan and Clay reignite their previous feelings, because you can tell from the moment they meet in this capacity that they really haven’t gotten over the other. Clay slowly starts opening up to Megan about why he dislikes Christmas so much, and Megan’s resolve about keeping Clay at arm’s length slowly starts to break as they spend more time getting to know each other. And as much as I loved seeing their relationship develop, I also loved all the secondary characters and how they banded together in a time of need. It’s truly small-town love at its finest!
With an ending that’s as sweet as it is satisfying, holiday lovers are bound to enjoy this story of two opposites who find what they need in each other. Grab a mug of hot chocolate and snuggle in with your new friends in Sterling Mill! A huge thank you to the author and Social Butterfly PR for the advance review copy.
