Sterling Mill #2.5

Call It Merry

Rate this book
The holidays are such a soul-sucking time. I don’t buy into all the commercialism of decorating a tree or Santa. But then I’m bamboozled into hanging lights, making ornaments, and baking fruitcakes—all things I hate—by a woman who’s haunted me since I met her months ago.

Now, Megan is determined to fix what she calls my Grinchy attitude about the holidays. We might not share the same feelings about Christmas, but I am more than happy to unwrap her behind closed doors. However, she’s determined to keep me on the “friends only” list when I would rather be on the "naughty list." The only problem is, the more I spend time with her, the more everything I believe is called into question.

Because the Grinch may have stolen Christmas, but Megan may have stolen my heart.

M.E. Montgomery can’t remember a time she hasn’t had at least one book on the go to read. After years of falling headfirst into the lives and loves of other author’s characters, M.E. decided to write her own. She enjoys creating the kind of realistic storybook friends you wish you could actually meet, and sometimes she finds herself wondering what those characters are up to once she’s delivered their happily ever after.
She’s married to her best friend and has four children and two Boxer dogs. They live wherever the Navy sends her husband, usually the East coast of the U.S., but also once in Japan.
Whenever she’s not writing or substitute teaching, she often ponders the riddle of how the kitchen sink appears to automatically refill with dirty dishes as soon as her back is turned. On the occasions it stays empty, you can find her with a glass of wine or Scotch outside at their fireplace or curled up inside with a book, binge watching TV, or chatting with readers.

CALL IT MERRY was just what I needed to kickstart my holiday reads. I loved visiting Sterling Mill and loved Megan and Clay’s second chance, opposites attract, small town romance. Throw in all of the town’s Christmas festivities and you have the perfect recipe for a self-proclaimed grinch to fall in love with the girl who loves the holidays as much as her family’s candy shop.

We learn that Megan and Clay first meet at a wedding where their best friends marry one other. After a night of giving in to the attraction they both feel, Megan leaves the next morning, knowing that Clay will go back to his life that’s not in Sterling Mill, thus protecting her heart from being broken by the attractive lawyer from out of town. The thing is, though, they each haven’t stopped thinking of the other since the wedding. When Clay comes back to visit, he and Megan find that the attraction is still very much alive and well. Clay’s not a fan of the holiday festivities, so Megan takes it upon herself to show him the true magic of Christmas. But when the snow melts and the holiday lights go out, will they be able to overcome the distance between them?

I love pretty much any romance that’s set in a small town, and CALL IT MERRY was no exception. Their traditions and town shenanigans—along with some colorful characters!—made me want to take a trip over to Sterling Mill for myself. More than just the setting, though, I really enjoyed seeing Megan and Clay reignite their previous feelings, because you can tell from the moment they meet in this capacity that they really haven’t gotten over the other. Clay slowly starts opening up to Megan about why he dislikes Christmas so much, and Megan’s resolve about keeping Clay at arm’s length slowly starts to break as they spend more time getting to know each other. And as much as I loved seeing their relationship develop, I also loved all the secondary characters and how they banded together in a time of need. It’s truly small-town love at its finest!

With an ending that’s as sweet as it is satisfying, holiday lovers are bound to enjoy this story of two opposites who find what they need in each other. Grab a mug of hot chocolate and snuggle in with your new friends in Sterling Mill! A huge thank you to the author and Social Butterfly PR for the advance review copy.

I'm so happy to be back to Sterling Mill!

This book was so cute and to my relief super drama free! First, Megan was so lovable with just how wonderful of a person she was. I really loved Clay as well, and thought he was mature through everything even though he acted like the Grinch. I also loved that they didn't have the complete lack of communication that I would expect from this type of book. This story has all kinds of good feels going on. The writing was smooth and the pace was great. One of my favourite parts of this series was the different traditions from each books.

Ultimately, this was super sweet and full of heart. If you want to read something to lift up your Christmas spirit, this book is for you!❤🎄

Loved the plot of Clay and Megan. They completely invite you to become part of their lives within the first chapter. I love Christmas so I really enjoyed the plot of turning the Grinch into a Christmas believer. The sub story of Clay and his past Christmas experiences are relatable to all of us and how sometimes the commercialization of Christmas has taken over the magic of Christmas

Great book and would highly recommend

Thanks for sharing your talent

Call it Merry is one of the best Christmas stories I have ever read. A good Grinch vs Christmas lover story. It has realistic storyline of two people who seem to not work, but ultimately cannot deny the love growing between them. Sterling Mills a lovely little town with captivating characters. Great Read!

✔️ Christmas Vibes
✔️ Best friend's little "sister"
✔️ Grinchy MMC
✔️ Fun and quircky FMC
✔️ Cookies all around
✔️ Hallmark movie vibes

First, let me say that prior to reading this book I haven't read the other two books before this one and I didn't feel like I was missing anything. The story flowed nicely. With that being said, I will FOR SURE be going back and reading those books also, because I am just so in love with this world. The connections, friendships, family...all of it is really amazing. It made me feel all nice and warm inside.

This book definetly gives off MAJOR Hallmark movie vibes and I am all here for it. I just love these type of books so much, and this one being Christmas themed it felt like a perfect introduction for the new season. Even tho I don't celebrate Christmas I love everything about it and books, like this one, that make you feel all warm and nice inside are my type of books.

So do yourself a favor and go get this book and get into the Christmas mood with me. And a hot chocolate and Christmas cookies in the mix while you read and you got yourself a perfect reading day.

Awesome Christmas Romance
I just love M.E. Montgomery’s Sterling Mill stories and this one is no different. Clay Phillips, a top lawyer from Charlotte, has no use for Christmas. He does not decorate his house or office, does not put up a tree or stocking and certainly does not do the Santa thing. Christmas is loud, overly commercialized and lasts for weeks. All too much considering it reminds him of a day he wished to forget. When his best friend, Zach, invites him to Sterling Mill for a visit he jumps at. The first person he sees is Megan Bliss, who is sweeter than all the candy in her shop in Sterling. Never has the memory of a woman stayed so present in his mind, however, after Zach and Emalee’s wedding she had made her position clear when he woke up the next morning and she was gone, nowhere to be found before he left town. Just as well though as it had to be a onetime thing. Zach would kill him if he knew Clay slept with his wife’s best friend and Emalee would come after him with one of her kitchen knives. Now Clay and Megan are thrown together and Megan sets out to teach this Grinch all about Sterling Christmas Magic. This is a well written steamy romance with lots of humor to spice things up and characters that are heartwarming. Loved the peeks at Mayor Sterling and the updates on the other residents of Sterling Mill as well.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.

A Sterling Christmas, crazy but fun!
Ms Montgomery entertains us with a delightful seasonal tale set in our favourite small town of Sterling Mill.
The joy and mayhem of Christmas in Sterling Mill starts with a road accident involving reindeer. “Are – are those reindeer?” I pulled my gaze back to the woman. “How do you know my name? Are you an elf?” I closed my eyes and groaned again. “Oh, god. I’ve died and gone to the North Pole.”
This is where our main characters, Clay and Megan come back together. They are besties with Em and Zac (of The Dogtrot fame) and spend time together when Clay visits town (with one notable visit on the night of Em and Zacs wedding), but not living in the same town let alone the same state has always held them back.
This trip Megan sets out to show Clay "The Grinch" their traditions and their history and to restore his Christmas spirit.
Ms. Montgomery has delivered a story that is lighthearted and fun, I think my first laugh came on page three and the rest of the book was read with a smile and plenty more laughs, but nevertheless, she doesn't fail to add warmth and meaning to the story.
I think the drunk reindeer may have finally one-upped Mayor Sterling for laughs (you'll need to read the book if you don't understand that statement!).
A thoroughly enjoyable read that will get you into the Christmas spirit.

Call it Merry is a novella that is part of the Sterling Mill series. This was a new-to-me author, but I had no trouble reading it as a standalone. The blurb sounded great, and I was pleasantly surprised by the story. Although it was short, the author was able to add depth to the story without making it feel rushed.
Clay met Megan when their best friends Emalee and Zach got together (Call it Fate). After their one night together following their friends’ wedding, Megan left before Clay awoke. She feared a relationship with Clay could destroy their friendship and put Emalee and Zach in a bad position. Clay had a bad memory of Christmas from his childhood and since then he hated Christmas. Fate landed him in Sterling Mills during the week the town is preparing for the Sterling Christmas celebration. Can the woman he can’t stop thinking of show Clay that Christmas is more than presents?
I am a huge fan of small-town romances and add in the festive storyline and this was a perfect choice of book for me. The characters were likable and sprinkle in some reindeer fun and you get a fun festive story that will leave you will all the feel goods.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Clay and Megan certainly helped to put me in the mood for the upcoming holidays. He’s a bit…unenthused about Christmas, while she’s 100% in on every single bit of holiday cheer. He’s disdainful of the commercialized holiday nonsense (same, Clay, same), while she’s got exactly the cure for his greenish, Grinchy heart. And and these two experience all that Christmas can be, from togetherness to the inevitable “almost destroyed” moments that holidays bring, maybe Clay learns more about a few things. Like love, holiday spirit, and how to forgive himself for the past? Oh, it sure looks like Megan may get her wish and end Clay’s anti-Christmas sentiments this year!

This is definitely a tale to make you crave Christmas chocolate, cookies, the lights, and cold nights together. Add in the fact that Clay and Megan are clearly falling for each other and you’ve got an excellent way to spend a few hours. So get comfy with some cold weather thoughts and enjoy the ride that these two (and a few drunken reindeer) will take you on to their forever.

Call It Merry is the perfect book to put you in the holiday spirit. A heartwarming Christmas romance that you want to any to put down. Megan and Clays story is a charming small town romance that gives you all the feels and makes you feel like you are part of the story. Montgomery weaves a story of two people who are polar opposite’s but have such a sweet connection you can feel through her words on each page. I absolutely loved every single thing about this story.

Clay is an out of towner who is visiting his best friend Zach, in Sterling Mill. But one little accident that includes reindeer really change his course of action. Clay is a bit of a Grinch but as soon as the sweet Megan arrives…he can’t help but start feeling the joy and happiness of the season being around her. Sterling Mill becomes a Christmas Wonderland. This town is quirky and I love reading about it. Grab this book and sit down for a cozy holiday romance. One that you are not soon to forget. Highly recommend.

Oooh! I love a Christmas-focused book that helps a Grinch end up on the Santa's nice list! I come from a position of understanding about Clay's attitude toward the holiday, but I definitely love the transformation even better. Megan is such a warm, burst of light that it is clear from the very beginning that she's going to break through Clay's darkness.

Ultimately, he guards his heart, but once it opens, the way he helps the town is one of the most beautiful moments I've ever read. His ability to forgive his father will have your heart melting. It's a touching moment that leaves you filled with hope for your own estranged relationships.

Together, Megan and Clay are one of the best holiday couples I have read in a long time. You'll be rooting for them to find a way to make the relationship work from the very start!

Clay Phillips has a great dislike for the Christmas season. He doesn't do lights, trees, shopping, or anything associated with Christmas cheer. When he his friend invites him to take a breather in Sterling Mill, he jumps at the chance. But more Christmas stuff derails the beginning of his vacation and he comes face to face with Megan Bliss. His ONS. Oh boy! But Megan needs more than being the itch he scratches when Clay's in town. As they spend time together, Clay's scroogeyness starts to change as if Megan's Christmas spirit is rubbing off on him.

I liked how Clay and Megan didn't have just a physical relationship. They took the time to get to know one another and forge a strong bond. The more time they spent together, the more I fell in love with Clay and Megan. It was a great way to get into the holiday spirit!

Call it Merry is an excellent ”Tis the season” story! It’s full of magic and cheer and of course, a grumpy non-believer! I’ve read quite a few “holiday romances” this year and I have to say that this one is one of my favorites!

I enjoyed Megan & Clay a lot! They both made me laugh with their wit and banter and I really loved how Clay evolved from reluctant to willing when it came to all things holiday cheer! He’s carrying baggage from his past that’s associated with the holiday and his disdain for it runs deep. Cue his best friend’s sister, Megan. Now, Megan and Clay have a bit of history, if you know what I mean, and they’ve known each other for a while so Megan takes it upon herself to help Clay get past his holiday “dislike” and while that’s a happening, a sweet and charming romance begins to build.

I said this when I read the first in this series and the sentiment has carried thru all the books I’ve read in the series so far. I like this world that ME Montgomery has created. I love the town of Sterling Mill and everyone in it. It’s charming and gives off the best smalltown vibes! This story was light and sweet but full of heart and hope! The story carries quite a bit of emotion but not so far that it goes into angst territory. It’s just a perfectly uplifting holiday romance!

A huge heartfelt thank-you to ME Montgomery for reaching out to me and introducing me to not just Sterling Mill, but her writing as well.

I really enjoyed this quick little, drama free Christmas tale. Megan is as festive as a holiday elf, and she's determined to show the very Scrooge-like Clay just what Christmas is like in Sterling Mill.
Not that Clay is heartless like the original Scrooge, not by any means. It's just that Christmas doesn't live in his heart. But he's more than generous with both his time, and his heart. He was excited to be seeing Megan again, after their steamy connection at friends Zach and Emalee's wedding. Now he's here to spend some time with them before their new baby arrives. Which it does...a little early.
Of course, he's going to jump at the chance to help Megan, even if it involves some colored lights, a yule log and maybe a bit of mistletoe. Because as we all know, hearts grow bigger Christmas. Loved this couple as well as the story.

Super Cute Festive Read

This Christmas Novella gave me a lovely Christmassy feeling. I was thrilled to learn that our two main leads in this short story were Clay and Megan. After reading Em and Zach's story I was rooting for Clay to fall for a Sterling Mill resident, so I was really excited when I saw he was going to be paired with Megan, Emalee's best friend.

Watching Megan turn Clay from a bit of a grinch to a fully involved honorary resident of Sterling Mill was such a Festive treat. Their instant chemistry was easy to see. It was fantastic to see all my faves from the previous books and see how their lives were progressing.

I really enjoyed this small town Christmas novella and the romance that blossomed. I can't wait for my next trip to Sterling Mill.

CALL IT MERRY is a truly charming Grinchy/Scroogey romance, just perfect for the season!! Clay is the antithesis of Christmas cheer, and Megan is the epitome of the holiday. The perfect couple, right!?! This is what makes this such a delightful tale that will not only warm your heart but bring it such joy, you will not want to put it down. It’s always such a treat to be back in Sterling Mill, and of course, with all its wonderful and quirky characters that only add to the overall entertainment of this very captivating read. I love this town and can't wait to see what treats are in store for us next!

Megan and Clay made a great couple. They were both good yet imperfect people and genuinely liked each other. They met initially because their best friends were getting married and they were thrust together for wedding activities, but they were still attracted and drawn to the other months later. They both had to get over some hang-ups, Megan not being willing to consider dating someone who doesn’t live in her hometown and Clay needed to forgive his father and work through his childhood issues with him.
Their romance was sweet and still passionate. Great Holiday read!

Nothing better than Christmas in Sterling Mill. Grinchy Clay is in for quite the time when he comes to visit his friend. I so want to be friends with Megan. I'm Christmas crazy and we would have blast during the holiday season. I can tell I wish I could visit Sterling Mill during the holidays it sounds like so much fun. I was happy to see Sterling pop in a few times. Can't visit this town without seeing him. I just gobbled this book right up. Seeing past characters enjoying their HEAs made me so happy. I loved Megan and Clay. They have such a magical time and the holiday season definitely rubs off on Clay. This a must read! A new favorite in the series for me.

Oh my I couldn't put it down (and now it wasn't because we just had our first big snow storm of the season here) I wanted to see how clay and Megan grew together and eventually to the coup!e that's in the book.

But get ready its going to bring the Christmas spirt out in you I'm sure if not your a Grinch ( and I mean that in the Dr suze style ) but from one almost like it was fated encounter involving reindeer and an elf presay do we see our couple begin to form and well you need to read this book and see how they fully come together and well clay gets to learn a few things related to the Christmas season too

Cute story. I loved Megan. She was all about Christmas. I didn’t really care for Clay, he did kind of grow on me through the book, but never really fell in love with him. He was the grinch to Megans elf, they couldn’t be more opposite. A set of circumstances through them together to not only help out mutual friends, but also to save the town’s Christmas.
Will Megan be able to soften Clay’s Grinchiness to get him to help and start appreciating Christmas more?
A couple of sex scenes. I could’ve done without, other than that. It was a cute story and worth the read. 💚❤️
This book was given to me by a friend.

Clay’s dislike for Christmas runs deep, and tied to his childhood. But when Megan finds out he doesn’t care for Christmas she’s determined to experience it in her small town. He agrees to it just to spend time with her, and realizes he needs to work through his issues so that he can move forward and enjoy the holiday season.
I liked Clay’s relationship with his sister and niece and also that he was open to the Christmas experience even though he associated it with a tough time in his past.
If you are looking for a fun small town, Christmas romance, you will enjoy this one and getting to know Clay and Megan.

A charming, small town, second chance romance the tie sure to get you in the holiday spirit! Clay and his holiday-hating heart returns to Sterling Mills, where Megan, his best friend’s sister and one night stand, does her best to get him in the holiday spirit. She takes him along to decorate, bake and spread cheer, he can’t help let the holiday magic, and Megan, charm him. Their story truly does tell the magic of Christmas, and along with the sweetness brings some romance and spice. A great, quick addition to the Sterling Mill series.

I loved everything about Sterling Mills and its quirky small-town charm. The townspeople were unforgettable, but the holiday traditions truly stole the show. I loved how those traditions were woven into Megan and Clay’s story in such a natural, cozy way. We got a small glimpse of them in book one, but not enough to really know them, so it was wonderful getting to dive deeper and see how perfectly they fit together.

This was a fun, cute Christmas read with great side characters and a town you cannot help but want to visit.

This was such a cute novella! Clay is a bit of a Scrooge (but a charitable one) and because of his past he hates Christmas. Megan is such a sweet character with a big heart and she’s determined to get him in the Christmas spirit! Things are a little awkward at first (after a one night stand) but the tension and chemistry is amazing! We even have a drunk reindeer situation that really brings them together! The ending was perfect and I loved how Clay really softened and dealt with his past trauma!!

I loved this book. It’s perfect to get us ready and in the holiday spirit. I loved Megan and Clay together. I found myself rooting for them to figure things out and for them to find a way to make the relationship work. I kinda enjoyed that Clay was such a Grinch because it made his change that mush more rewarding. It was a sweet holiday romance that I truly enjoyed and would happily recommend.
