Rate this book

I adored both Jason (aka, fake "Carl") and Sergeant Owen Stirling Sir and thoroughly enjoyed this separated-twins, life-swapping story.

It also had a bit of a "city girl goes to the country" vibe as well, with the funniest parts for me being Jason's tendency to abandon vehicles, homes, you name it upon the moment of encountering any type of scary wildlife there. 🤣

But with Sergeant Owen Stirling Sir living right next door, at least he had a safe place to flee, while Owen was both entertained and enchanted by Jason's weird-assed behavior.

The humor in the story shone through pretty brightly, but also had a fair number of feels, as Jason got to know his family for the first time since being put up for adoption.

In addition to the theme of being reunited with long-lost family, there was also a strong element of found family, as Jason fell in love with Owen's quirky, plaid-friendly family and began to think of them as his as well.

One of my favorite side characters was Owen's college-aged nephew, Alex, who had plenty of life complications of his own, and received a lot of support from both of the MC's. The scene with Jason talking to Alex alone at the beach was just... *chef's-kiss*.

With as much effort as Jason had put into hiding his true identity, I will admit that I was a little shocked (but not disappointed) that The Big Reveal of who he really was wasn't a bit more explosive.

This latest "Signs of Love" story, for me at least, had more of the same feel as the series' initial stories, which were my favorites and I'd rate it at around 4.25 stars and recommend it without hesitation.

Hey peeps,

Sorry this one was so long coming. I had to be in the right frame of mind to write this comedy and as I've contended with a few health and family issues over the last couple of years, I kept putting it off to get to a place I could do this justice. Also, earlier attempts just failed, LOL.

I hope you enjoy this installment of the Signs of Love series. I was inspired by the movie The Parent Trap... who can resist a twin-swap plot? Not me, anyhoo. So I threw that idea into the need for a fun romance set Down Under.

Thank you for all for being awesome readers! <3

As most books in this series, this story follows a sweet, quirky, funny and likeable main character who is entirely clueless about the fact that his new 'friend' is actually completely in love with him.
The mix of pining and obliviousness is something I eat up every single time!

Jason was definitely someone I enjoyed to read about. He was easy to like, and charming enough for it to make sense that Owen fell head-over-heels in love with him almost immediately, even when he needed to patiently wait until Jason clues into his own feelings.
Owen was, like Jason, also a kind and very caring person. I didn't love him as much as I did Jason, but he was okay. As long as he was pining for Jason, he kind of did his job in this story, and he did the pining fairly well.

Personally, I do have to say that I loved the first half of this book a lot more than I did the second half. Once Owen and Jason kind of 'got together', it started to slightly drag, and I also didn't feel like their actual relationship lived up to the tension, flirting and banter they had before.
After a while, the story in general didn't feel as well developed or fleshed out. Nothing much seemed to happen anymore, and I was waiting for the story to pick up again or for something climactic to happen, but, aside from the identity reveal (which I actually found anticlimactic as well), everything was rather uneventful. It felt almost a bit messy, and not everything made sense.

This book has the 'fake-dating' trope, as well as the 'mistaken identity' plotline.
Owen does find out Jason's real identity pretty soon, but they're lying to everyone else due to some drama regarding Jason's twin and the rest of his biological family (who he had never met before).
It's all a bit confusing, and doesn't really get developed throughout the book at all.
Honestly, Jason's biological family (including his twin) pissed me off. They were really selfish and I didn't like them.

Overall, though, Jason's humorous and sweet personality made this story very enjoyable for me, and his chemistry with Owen was also good enough for me to root for them!

Long story short, this book was cute, fun, sweet and light-hearted, but some things could have been done a little better.

I didn't dare to do this in a long time, because if I don't spleep enough, it affects my mental health, but I slept only 3 hours to be able to finish this book. And although I obviously loved it, I'm also kinda disappointed it ended up being a 4 star.

Because the first maybe 70% was so perfect I wanted to cry. Like I couldn't believe it. It was written for me, with me in mind, because the humor, the slowburn and the healthy, mature relationship between these two are exactly what I look for in romance books. I mean, I was not surprised, because I adore the whole series for the exact same reason, but the last book was publised more than two years ago, so it was just so nice to be back in this world.

The not so good part, however, was the third act breakup. I want to say the reason I didn't enjoy it was the fact that I was fighting against falling asleep, but I honestly think it was weak compared to the rest of the book. It was nicely built up, and if I really tried I somewhat understood the logic behind it, but the execution felt flat. I don't know how to express what I want to lol, the curse of not being a native English speaker. But it did not give what it was supposed to give is all I want to say.

But all in all, reread material. I'm even thinking about rereading the whole series in the near future.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

Jason hadn’t thought Owen would steer him out of his home, once again groaning about having reached his limit. It was all very efficiently done, a firm yet gentle grip on the back of his neck, steady steps, and disbelieving laughter—and Jason . . . sort of, kind of, completely got it.

This book really tickled my funny bone. The humor was just so casual. Always there, but somehow didn't feel forced. It was just funny through and through. It was also surprisingly hot. Who doesn't love a guy who likes to be held down a little while boning. Anyway, super cute and funny, and also made me shed a couple of tears, as adoption is a big theme throughout and apparently that's got a direct line to my tear ducts.

Definitely recommend if you feel like reading something light, low angst, funny and hot.

“Did it get you?” Jason blinked, startled, and looked down. Owen was outlining a small tear in his jeans. Oh. He squeezed his thighs together and shook his head. “Ah, I’m fine. Just got the denim.”
“Thank you.”
“Oh yes, thank you, Sergeant Owen Stirling. Sir.”
“That wasn’t a directive, Jason.”

"You haven't asked me what my future looks like."

A whisper, "What does your future look like?"

On another yawn, Jason said, "Y'know, I think it looks just like yours."

[4.3] for those about to pick this bad boy up: exorbitant cheese ahead! beware if lactose intolerant 🧀

a fanciful parent trap situation where Jason takes his identical twin Carl's place as best man at the ex's wedding featuring innuendos galore, fake relationships (with the hunky neighbor Sergeant Owen Stirling, no less 😏), only one bed, small town shenanigans, a precious nephew you just want to protect, and the cutest lie detector dog. the sheer amount of ridiculous scenes jampacked in this book is enough to have you laughing for days 🤣

Jason is the pinnacle of endearing obliviousness, so clearly smitten and attracted to Owen but never fully grasping the truth behind his feelings until it hits him like a mack truck. so you can imagine Owen's struggle when Jason inadvertently says the cutest things or gets extra touchy-feely without a single ounce of awareness. i even thought poor Owen was going to accidentally choke to death because of the lack of sexual innuendo processing software in Jason's brain 😂

speaking of Owen, the way he wouldn't hesitate to jump to Jason's rescue and willingly play along to his wild schemes had me swooning 🥺 could you ever ask for anyone more patient and understanding? onto the list of perfect book boyfriends he goes!

while i would've liked more development toward the end re: the Big Family Reveal (and perhaps less assuming on Jason's end, though it fits with his personality to a T lol), this was still such a treat to devour. i don't know if Anyta Sunday has more planned for this series, but a detailed account of Carl's side of the story would be nice to have. i wouldn't complain if we got Alex's story either, but that's just my greed talking 👀

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When I saw this title I had a good laugh, because I'm a sagittarius and my first boyfriend ever was a libra 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and I totally understand the pairing, best dude ever, didn't work out but I was blessed to have met him.

And even though Sagittarius are not often paired with libras in horoscope stuff (I'm a Latina, I'm certified in this shit), I understood and enjoyed seeing this characters interact with each.

I enjoyed trying to find similarities between me and Jason (there were some, more than I thought it would actually) and I loved to watch him get together with Owen, slowly and sometimes painfully *cringes* but it happened!

I do want to point out that Jason being so oblivious got tiring at 70%, and there was a moment that I thought trying to make him so ignorant of stuff for the sake of comedy wasn't working. I would have enjoyed for some serious conversations happening, specially between him and his mother, because that surprise happened late in the book and it didn't really felt solved at the end.

But I enjoyed it! And as a fellow sagittarius I'm happy for Jason. 🥰🥰

NOW WHERE THE FUCK IS MY OWEN? 🙄🙄🙄

"Be bold. Take chances, Sagittarius!" Yeah yeah, I know. 🤣

Possibly my favourite one so far, I'm still toying with whether Zane and Beckett are beating out Jason and Owen and it's a very close race.

This book was ridiculously funny as Jason's obliviousness rivals that of Zane's when he was falling for Beckett, that's probably one of the reasons why I loved this one so much.

It has a cool plot with twins swapping places and taking over each others lives so that Carl doesn't have to go through the pain of seeing his ex-boyfriend marrying someone else.

I love Owen though, OMG he is the perfect book boyfriend and I have to say the steam levels in this one are some of the hottest in the series so far! It's slow-burn only because Jason is so utterly clueless about all the vibes he's not only sending out to Owen but which he's giving him back.

There's some minor angsting but, overall as with any Anyta story, what you get is a wonderfully chill, funny romance with a joyous happy ending.

I put off reading the final installment in this series for a year because I didn’t want to say goodbye!!! 🥲 Although I’ve loved other installments more, I also adored this one a lot. It was a wonderful send-off and really showcased the aspects I love most in this series turned up to the highest level: silly antics, an oblivious mc, puns, innuendo, fantastic banter, run-ins with Australian wildlife (I mean who amongst us has not accidentally rescued a cat only to figure out once the animal is in the car that it’s a Tasmanian devil!!!). Okay so maybe the stuff that happened in this one doesn’t happen in every book (wouldn’t that be wild to have a full series of twin swap plot books though?!?! Lol) and might have been the most out there in terms of plot and what went down and I love the book all the more for it. It’s so silly. It’s so over the top. It’s hilarious. It brought me so much joy and had me cracking up laughing or with basically a permanent smile the whole time I read it. And that’s why I love this series. Not because it’s so grounded in reality - but because it’s not. And it’s all the better for it. ❤️

⭐️ ⭐️⭐️.5/5 Stars.

“I know,” Jason rubbed his face. “I’m a magnet for misadventure.” “A magnificent magnet for misadventure.” Yeah.

This was pretty darn cute. I’ve been really depressed lately. Maybe that’s TMI. But oh 🐳. It is what it is. And this made me smile.

This is an author I had tentatively said a gentle goodbye to in the last year or so. Her last series I tried wasn’t for me. And even the last few short ones of this series I read I didn’t click with. But I decided to try this and I’m glad I did. Despite a few niggles, I absolutely enjoyed it.

If you’ve read more than one book of this series, you’ll know that it follows a certain formula. One beyond believable clueless guy. And the bewildered one who loves him. I’d put this as my third favorite. That’s kind of cheating. Books one and four are tied for first. And book two is my second favorite. So I guess middle of the pack. Not too shabby. You can read this series in any order. They are only very loosely connected.

I loved the almost Parent Trap like twin swap between Carl and Jason. I’d pay top dollar for a book about Carl’s shenanigans in Jason’s town. 😂 I adored Owen with all my heart. He was so steady and true. So willing to jump in and help Jason put out whatever fire he started. Jason was kind of a hot mess but mostly in a good way. At times he verged a little on the OTT side but I couldn’t be bothered to mind much, since it was making me smile. I do wish the the ending had a little more to it. It was a bit unsatisfying.

Overall I found this fun. And funny. I’m not sure if this is the last book. I thought I heard it was. But I’d happily read more. Give me all the clueless beyond all reason guys and the men who look at them with heart eyes.

“What makes you happy? Other than cuffing people.” “There’s more to being a cop than cuffing people.” “I didn’t mean as a cop.” “How can you be so sure I’m into cuffing?” “Call me imaginative?” “Not hopeful?”

Just what you would hope for in a romantic comedy:
It’s cute and light, and it made me chuckle.
Just what was needed to relax and escape RL for an afternoon.

Jason is maybe a tad overdrawn as the ‘clueless one’, and Owen has the patience of a saint, but I enjoyed their shenanigans and the rather unrealistic scenario. I have to admit I rather like a ‘twin-swap’ plot. And Anyta Sunday does it really well.

Not as strong as other books in this series, but definitely a worthwhile read.
(But it's a big NO to that cover!)

This was a delightful blast to read. I love most of this series, and this one was fantastic as well. Jason and Owen were SO much fun.

I loved the humour, chemistry, and all around OTT plot. I was grinning the entire time I read this.

I did feel like there was something missing from the ending though, like it was very abrupt, and I feel incomplete because of it. Also, the sex scenes felt jarring because it was all in all at once and it didn’t feel natural. Aside from that though, these were likely some of the hottest sex scenes Anyta has written.

Overall though, an absolute treat, more in line with books one and four in this lovely series full of oblivious idiots and the sweethearts who wait for them ❤️

Jason and Carl are twins who were adopted. Carl by his birth mother's aunt and Jason by strangers. They met in their twenties by accident. Carl's family doesn't know he knows about Jason. Carl's ex is getting married and he is to be the best man. He doesn't want to because it hurts too much so he asks Jason to take his place. Jason agrees. The plan is to switch lives for 3 weeks.

This one does have a very parent trap feel to it. I enjoyed it. It was a fun read. Owen and Jason together were very sweet. Jason ends up having to recruit him as a fake boyfriend. Jason spews sexual innuendos that he is so oblivious to. Owen is kind, caring and so helpful. There is a Honestly, I read this in one sitting because I didn't want to put it down because I loved these two too much. Who needs sleep? lol

I will knock the ending. I think it needed to be fleshed out more. For me, that was not explored enough. It was wrapped up too neatly. I do think there needs to be a story for Alex and his boyfriends as well as whatever the hell Carl was up to in Jason's place. I'll definitely read those.

P.S.
I keep going back to my favorite scene just to imagine Owen singing. I think I'm in love with Owen. Fudge. I'm in love with a 2D character. 😭 I'm gonna need a new book to read very quick. Owen and Jason ruined 'Don't Dream It's Over' and 'Fall At Your Feet' for me.

___________

4.5 COP-A-FEEL STARS rounded up!
I thought this was the last of the series but apparently, there's one coming out NEXT YEAR. But that's okay. I'm not opposed to re-reading them next year before the new book's release. This has definitely become one of my favorite series. 🥲🥰

SAGITTARIUS SAVES LIBRA (fake identity, twin shenanigans, small town)

The Parent Trap MM edition and ON CRACK. 🤣 As expected from another book in this series, this made me laugh a lot. Out of all 6, I could say this has the most comedic plot just from the amount of shenanigans and misadventures. I can't believe how much trouble Jason has gotten into in this book. Just his luck the local cop has the hots for him alright. 🤭

“Grabbing an officer is an offense, hmm?”
“Manhandle me then. Shove me into the closet. I’ll give you what you want.”

Such an entertaining couple and I love how Owen knew who Jason was from the start. It made the build-up in romance cute because Owen watched the entire journey of Jason discovering himself and his feelings for him. He'd both been amusing himself and falling in love with Jason the whole time. Poor Owen, Jason's word vomit and accidental innuendos drove the man crazy.

“You haven’t asked me what my future looks like.”
A whisper, “What does your future look like?”
On another yawn, Jason said, “Y’know, I think it looks just like yours.”

Like its predecessors, the chapter intros were entertaining as usual. Snarky tweets from the local police? Definitely unique. What I love the most in this book though was how music was incorporated in their romance. Jason as a pianist, thought and expressed his feelings in music and jargon. The way he defined his feelings according to sonatas and classical pieces was adorable. Owen, on the other hand, was a music lover and adored everything about Jason's gift. That bit where Jason played for Owen, when Owen started singing along, and when Jason kissed Owen while playing the piano was the most romantic and epic scene for me. Definitely a match made in heaven.❤️❤️❤️

Jason kissed him and began, their lips still sliding together. To his surprise, when he pulled out of the kiss Owen started singing. It almost made him stumble. The soft deep quality of it. The careful timing. The changing of all the hers to hims. A nervous thrill wove through his veins. This was something . . . magical. The energy of their music thrummed through him, too much to process—he was achy everywhere, inside and out.

Anyta Sunday does a brilliant job as always and you could tell that she had fun writing this story. Problem was, despite Anyta being in the loop with Jason's (Sagittarius) thought process and how he may be perceived, we readers were completely clueless. The beginning of the book felt rushed and didn't get as involved up until a certain ex showed up. Damn. Then things got interesting and Jason and Owen, along with their relationship really shown through. Overall 4 stars, because the ending definitely left me craving for a bit more of Jason's liveliness and Owen's dry wit.

The police’s tweets was a nice touch 🤣🤣 they were hilarious and I loved them!

This author definitely has a thing for the ’as you wish’ line, doesn’t she? Hope she finds the Westley to her Buttercup🧡.

I appreciate that this book doesn’t have mistaken identity and miscommunication(?), because they are the devil’s trope!!! Though I wish I could have been spared ALL the innocent double entendres he kept spouting out 🙄🙄 I have a new item on my ‘don’t want to read if there’s….’ list now!

Anyta Sunday just gets me. That sweet slow burn, quirky kinda clueless characters, a fun plot, and as I think I've written in most reviews for her books, a story that keeps me smiling from the very start all the way through the end. If you like kinda cooky spontaneous characters falling in love with a rock solid, comforting love interest this is most definitely the book for you. It was funny, romantic, and at times completely pulled at my heart strings. Another glorious 5 stars for Sunday.

This is another book by an author who have parted ways with, as their recent releases have not worked for me, but I've really enjoyed most of the books in this series and it's what got me hooked on this author to begin with, so when I saw they came out with a new one, I caved... and I'm glad I did!

Honestly, this was just a fun, amusing read. Yes the banter is a little (okay, a lot) OTT at times, which I think might have annoyed me more if I hadn't taken such a lot hiatus from their other books, so it didn't feel too much like overload. The concept of this does require some suspension of belief, but I thought the ~twist~ on the swapped lives was definitely interesting and I appreciated the emotional aspect. I also very much appreciated that the love interest, Owen, knows from the start that Jason is pretending to be his twin, as that would have been a big squick for me and something I was worried about going into the book. Jason is oblivious to the point of incredulity. He says a LOT of suggestive stuff, apparently by accident, which would be believable if he immediately after saying shit realized how it sounded, but he never does--annoying but minor.

Big public scene at the end, which I hate, but it *wasn't* technically a feelings declaration, so I'm not too mad about it. I do think this book follows the pattern/formula of a lot of other Sunday books--in terms of dynamics, I'd say it's almost indistinguishable from several other couples of hers, but it just so happens that it's a dynamic that very much works for me, and maybe because of my hiatus, but it didn't bother me at all. IDK, this book definitely hasn't convinced me that I should go back to reading Sunday's books, but I *did* really enjoy it. *shrug* I'm complicated.

I loved this book. It’s been a while since I read a book by Anyta Sunday. Although she’s definitely one of my favorite authors I’ve been reading lots of new authors and ignored some old favorites.

This was such a sweet wonderful book. I just completely fell in love Jason and Owen. This is a beautiful story and I highly recommend it. I cried so many happy tears.
