The second in the Papa Tell me a Book Series, David asks his Grandpa to make up a naptime story about his blanket. David falls asleep during the story and dreams the ending
After spending 30 years as an IT Consultant, Kinscherf decided to take the story telling he uses to amuse his grandchildren and transform into a couple of children's book series.
There is simply nothing much better than a great children's book! Blanket definitely falls into that category. Once again in the Papa Tell Me A Book series the reader finds Papa and David hanging out together during nap time. David wants to hear about blankets. Papa is a little nervous because a grandfather never wants to disappoint his grandchild! Fortunately for David and the rest of us, Papa has a terrific imagination and thus the story begins “Once upon a time there was a Knight…”.
Along the way, we discover that the blanket has special meaning to the whole family making the imagination of the story connect with the reality of early childhood and each person’s most loved support piece. I was filled with fond memories of my little brother's blanket which he called “giggy” that over the years became reduced to a small square of material. The joy of finding a book that explores this magical security item is priceless and the message to children today remains powerful.
If you have not discovered Ron Kinscherf’s books please make a point to do so. You, your children, and your grandchildren will be thankful for the memories these books instill.
Ron Kinscherf has created a wonderful concept with his Papa Tell Me a Book series. I've just read Blanket and am thoroughly charmed. Little David doesn't nap anymore, he "rests," but not before he asks his grandfather to 'tell him a book' and picks a theme. This one is a blue blanket that has been handed down through the ages. Of course, David falls asleep during the story and dreams. He's got quite an imagination spinning out of a blanket into dragons, monkeys and crocodiles. The illustrations from FolksnFables are delightful. This series, written for children aged baby to seven years, is a perfect introduction to books, storytelling and reading. The language is simple and by seven a child could read it to himself. In my book, entertainment and learning are the perfect combo! Kudos to author Ron Kinscherf for giving Papi and Grana a new book to share with our little fellow.
Bt Ron Kincherf Mr. Kincherf, in his book blanket, has hit on an excellent concept. Having Papa make up bedtime stories for his grandson and stopping when the child falls asleep lets the young reader do what they usually do, imagine. Then Mr. Kincherf supplies even more ingredients to help their fantasies continue. What a great concept. The book is easy to read and understand. As I read it to my youngster, her eyes came alive while she listened, and when the story finished, she continued it as she pretended. Fabulous story. Four stars!
"We are all made of dreams" said Prospero in Shakespeare's The Tempest. That is particularly clear in Ron Kinscherf's 'Papa Tell Me a Book', Blanket. A grandpa putting his young grandson down for a nap has to come up with a requested story about a blanket. No easy task. But he turns a blanket into a magic cape worn by ancestors in the past. As the boy dreams, the blanket morphs into a fire-retardant cape that protects him from a mercurial dragon. The gentle drama is sure to entertain small children. Illustrations are unfussy in soft colors sure to help the listener relax.
Blanket is another winner in Ron Kinscherf’s successful "Papa Tell Me" series. This one is such a smart concept because it creates a fun, imaginary world out of “naptime”. The text and illustrations work beautifully together and the whole series is such a wonderful companion for young parents introducing story magic.
If you haven't tried a book from Kinscherf's "Papa Tell Me a Book" series, then you are missing out! "Blanket" is a delightful tale of a young boy, his grandpa, and a clever way to start rest time. It is an especially fun tale for children who enjoy knights and kingdoms. The illustrations are very cute and will be sure to catch your child's eye as you read this story together.
I really enjoyed reading Blanket. The concept and illustration of the story is sooo cute! It took me back down memory lane, when my mother would read bedtime stories to my sisters and I.
Papa tells his grandson a story that fascinates him. There's a true meaning of the word blanket, so pay close attention, so you don't miss it. Love it!!!
