Gripping!

Burning Sommer by Nicholas Harvey, the fourth installment in the Nora Sommers series, proves to be a gripping and gory thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Harvey delivers a captivating storyline filled with unique characters and unexpected twists.

One of the standout aspects of the book is Nora Sommers herself. Nora’s dark sense of humor, combined with her unconventional background and traumatic past, makes her an intriguing and refreshing protagonist. Her Nordic ability to be brutally honest, without hesitation, adds a layer of authenticity to her personality, setting her apart from other typical lead characters in the genre. Near the end of this, she was talking to herself about trying to filter the honesty a bit which was pretty funny.

As with most of Harvey’s books, Nora crosses paths with AJ Bailey, another prominent character from a different series. The dynamic between Nora and AJ adds depth to both stories and a familiar face in an intense story.

The heart of the novel lies in its fascinating storyline, centered around cases that aren’t typical for the island and peculiar crimes that test the limits of Nora’s abilities.

What truly elevates the audiobook experience is the performance by Kim Bretton. Her talent in embodying Nora’s character with ease and authenticity adds a new dimension to an already likable protagonist, making the listening experience all the more enjoyable.

Nicholas Harvey’s signature writing style is evident in “Burning Sommer,” as he masterfully weaves a little twist into the plot that keeps readers guessing until the very end. The unexpected turn in the story during the final hour of the audiobook will leave you unable to put it down, as it demands to be devoured in one sitting. Be prepared to stay up way past your bedtime, compelled to unravel the mystery alongside Nora.

Burning Sommer is a thrilling addition to the Nora Sommers series that manages to be both gruesome and captivating. With an unforgettable protagonist, an enthralling storyline, and a talented narrator bringing it all to life, this book is a must-read for fans of the genre and a testament to Nicholas Harvey’s storytelling prowess.

Absolutely superb. Having read all the books in the series so far, this might be one of the top two. You will love the introduction of a new character, a female detective from England, and her relationship with the standoffish Nora. The mystery is intense and the growing maturity of Nora as a police constable is wonderful to see ( not that she isnt above taking the law into her own hands). I was well satisfied with the ending but sad as i have now caught up with all the books so far and have to wait for October for the last one.

Once again Nick's creation does it again. An absolute increadable read this book had more twists and turns than the "Tail of the Dragon" in East Tennessee (318 turns in 11 miles). Nora has been a fantastic off shoot of the AJ Bailey series. Nora brings humor and quick witted conversations along with her unfortunate past. There is no way to start this book and expect to put it down. Thank you, Nick for a great read.

Another great visit with Nora. I love this series. Nora makes my heart ache a bit. She’s so smart and so blunt. And the last line in this book nearly made me cry.

Besides the unique crime thriller you get with this series you also get this character that really stands out. I’m going to be so sad when I finish book 5 and have to wait for more.

I’ll definitely be going back to this authors back list to dive in. He has a brilliant way of weaving a story. And I love his dialogue.

Another Hit!

I've really enjoyed reading this series! Nora is a very interesting character, especially because I couldn't predict what she was going to do. She has an unusual moral compass in that she gets the job done but occasionally to the chagrin of her mentor Whittaker, who goes by the book. Mr. Harvey includes a fun cast of characters -in both friends and "bad guys". I loved the other books in this series and am looking forward to reading the rest.

Wow!!! I should have seen that coming but I didn't but I kept wondering. This story is very well written with some real twisted twists! The author has a way of bringing the past and the present together like a freight train on a collision course. Nora is just the best and I love her tenacity and her intelligence. I look forward to many more books with Nora!!

I continue to enjoy these books, and they get more unexpected twists and turns. I didn’t see any of this coming even though I knew the twists had to come together some how. Very easy and enjoyable read!

Love

I love this series, and Nora. I'm so glad there are already a few more available and another due out in a couple of weeks, because I'm reading one after another and not at all bored. Humor, suspense, warm emotions, as well as anger and murders!

Burning Sommer - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Nicholas Harvey's Grand Cayman-based crime-thriller, Burning Sommer, shows how Norwegian Constable Nora Sommer continues caring for emotionally-damaged, sassy teen Jasmine, aka Jazzy, while working alongside a temporary English supervisor, O'Neill.
Nora's also working on two disparate cases - a shocking arson/murder, and the exploitation of Icelandic holidaymaker, Eli, that provokes a strong gut reaction in her.
Will the physical and emotional demands of it all, prove too much?

The number of suspects and victims mounts up quickly, meaning Nora and O'Neill must make life-or-death choices, to prevent more fatalities.
Crazy car chases, wild face-offs and danger with a capital D - Burning Sommer has them all, in spades...grab a copy today!

Another winner in this series. Nora is investigating an arson attack in which a man was killed, and the drugging of a female tourist. Jazzy is still living with her and Nora's life is full.
