Larissa is the child of two worlds. She is a witch and a vampire… Witches fear her… Vampires want her blood.... and to complicate matters, she is in love with a human, which is forbidden by both.
Larissa returned to New Orleans to end the threat of Jean St. Claire, but things went anywhere but according to plan.
Jean St. Claire is still alive. She is now an outcast in the world of mages. Every witch that lived outside of the council's control is looking at her as their new leader. Jean turned the man she loves into a vampire Somehow she is pregnant. She didn't even know that was possible. In response to the loss of her son, Mrs. Saxon exiled everyone who wasn't a witch from the Coven making Larissa's farmhouse a little crowded. She came home to New Orleans to solve a problem and make life better, but she ended up ruining everyone's lives. Now she has a coven of her own, and others looking to her for leadership. This was not a role she wanted, and she doesn't beleive this is what Master Thomas meant by a higher calling, or was it?
She doesn't even want to consider that, at least not yet. There are more immediate problems to solve. Jean St. Claire still needed to be dealt with once and for all. She needed to help Nathan deal with being a vampire and find someway to have the future she had envisioned with him, if that was even still possible. Then there was the baby, which scared her to death. If all that wasn't enough, Master Thomas dropped another bomb on her. There is much more to the world she has yet to understand, and if she wanted to continue her Father's work she had much to learn.
David Clark is an author of multiple self-published horror novels and anthologies (amazon genre top 100) and can be found in 3 published horror anthologies. His writing focuses on the suspense, horror and sci-fi genres with a writing style takes a story based on reality, develops characters the reader can connect with and pull for, and then sending the reader on a roller-coaster journey the best fortune teller cannot predict. He feels his job is done if the reader either gasps, makes a verbal reaction out loud, throws the book across the room, or hopefully all three.
We jump right in where book 4 left off and Larissa is not spared one moment. She has many more challenges thrown at her (nothing new in her world) but this time there is soooo much more on the line, her unborn child that is quite the mystery to both worlds, the turning of her boyfriend thanks to Jean St. Claire, and the rogue witches' and the vampires looking for a new leader. We do see more growth with Larissa and the other characters. Bonds are strengthen while also being strained trying to live in the aftermath of the fight between the witches' and vampires. Can Larissa and her friends find the fine line between the two worlds and learn to live in harmony or are they headed for the end? I received a free ARC of this story and this is my review given voluntarily.
The House of The Rising Son, the fifth book in the Coven Cove series is a nail-biting, roller coaster ride from the start to the very end. Larissa is a witch and a vampire, and if that is not complicated enough, she is also pregnant. She is torn between both camps. She needs to learn from the witches who fear her. But, Nathan, the vampire who holds her heart, insists that she leave the witches and join the rogue vampires. As much as she loves him, she must think of the child growing inside of her, a child with a strong heartbeat. Ideally, they would all learn to get along, however, the powers that be love the status quo, so much so that Larissa will become a problem that they must deal with. David Clark has brought us another wonderful read. The characters, the goodies and the baddies, get better with every book, and the storyline is fantastic. I look forward to the next book in this great series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is definitely one of my favorite series! These characters feel like friends; I laugh, cry, and celebrate with them. I did not want this book to end! Clark writes tension and an over-arching storyline so well that when you turn the last page, you weren't expecting it to be the end. I highly recommend this series for everyone. There's very little kissing, the sex is fade-out, and the friendships between characters are very realistic. Plus, I bet you've never read a book where the main character is a witch and a vampire.
This book was good. It digs a tiny bit deeper into the lore and magic of the world. However, it was most definitely more about her pregnancy and how it affected her and what he baby was going to be born as. Nathan was a completely different character since his change and it just goes to show that disgusting behavior in book two was his true self. There's many secrets about with the witches- but the vampires are no better. They're worse in many ways and its definitely a big rift when it comes to Larissa and he newborn child.

Larissa is pregnant and Nathan is catatonic. How can a vampire become pregnant? Larissa has to come to terms that life can never be the same. What will happen when Nathan changes into a vampire? How will she cope with their new offspring? Moreover, some rogue witches and vampires are in the vicinity. Whom can she really trust? A rivetting read with good world building and wholesome characters.

Larissa's world is turned upside down in the aftermath of the events in book #4. Not only are things NOT settled but there is so much more for her to deal with. What a fabulous read! David takes us beyond expections in this one. Loved it! I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased opinion of the tale.

It is so hard to type out these reviews, without revealing things I just read, & spoiling it for someone. So that being said, I'll just say I loved a lot of the things Larissa did, I disliked some of the things Nathan did... & the main thing they did together was friggen awesome!
The book needs to be edited. The story was great but long with redundancies (an ongoing complaint with this series). Keep reading, though. The twist at the end (book 7) is perfect. I did not see that coming and I should have. The ending was a tear jerker in the best way. Job well done to the author for a satisfying ending.
A new author and I have read this book and giving my Honest review. I love vampire and witches this book had everything. It was good from the beginning to end. I am not spoiling so I hope you enjoy as much as I did .
this is the best fantasy series I have read. The characters are so well defined, the emotions they go through, you feel every one! I have to pace myself not to read the whole series in one session, excellent, well done David.
Love the storyline of the vampires vs witches. Larissa and her friends are amazing in learning the art of witchcraft. Mix that with new vampires and e pull of love
David did it again, I’m astonished. Wow! Just wow! I couldn’t put it down, it kept me on the edge, held my breath! I really can’t wait to know what will happen next.
