WARNING!!! This series is already dark but this volume is especially dark. Attempted SA (even on a minor). I was not expected it to go that way so I feel like I should warn future readers as well. Even if nothing actually happens.

BEST VOLUME YET

Am I bias because my wife Cinderella was a big part of it? Yes. Yes I am.

HOWEVER!!! The plot is so much easier to follow in this one compared to the other two and a lot more action takes place. The only real confusing part is the character's powers definitions. Hoping that gets explored more in the next volume so I understand better.

But we meet Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty in this volume!!

Something I always loved about Yoko Taro's versions of these fairy tale characters translating to reality is that is so well thought out. The characters are flawed but you see the similarities to their fairy tale counterpart and it makes you go "Oh that is dark but that makes sense."

For example - Little Mermaid is in love with a man who is married and actively pursuing him knowing he is married. She wants him to leave his wife for her and he won't. And that makes her depressed and wants to drown them both in the water so she is with him forever and no one can take him from her.

Enough about the great things about the volume's story in this part - look at my favorite character.

Yoko Taro ends the volume with this so I want to also end my review with this;

Considering that this is another alternate universe of dozens of alternate universes, I'm kinda surprised that this tale is still going. I felt like it could have ended two volumes back. Maybe they're trying to stall a story conclusion so as to introduce even more gacha versions of popular characters for the game. Now that's a level of corporate sleaziness that would be in-character of this series.

All jokes aside, this is just bizarre action scenes, censored sex, weirdly placed gore, and cryptic phrases that don't mean much of anything besides potentially dark fantasy nonsense. Pretty in key for SINoALICE, but it's only reading the English translation of this volume that I realize how poorly that atmosphere translates overseas. Maybe it's because it doesn't have the talented voice cast adding their swing to it. Something is missing in this one.

Something vital.

Either way, I hope the story gets around to its final act soon. Or be clearer about the rules in this universe. I can't help but feel this would do nothing for anyone who has never played the game at all.

So I said this would be my last attempt with Sinoalice and, sadly, as with the other volumes, I didn't enjoy this one at all. It's such a pity because I really love the idea of the game and truly respect many of those involved, but the rabid violence and the sexualization of the characters is just too much for me. Maybe it just doesn't work in this format? I mean the whole attempt at explaining the characteristics of the units in the manga (whether they were support or damage dealers and how) failed pretty terribly in my opinion and made no sense. Well, I guess this just isn't for me.

Another volume of "SINoALICE", another volume of being confusing, annoying, and depicting pointless attempted sexual assault.

I'm going to finish this series, because it's only six volumes and I already own all of them, but I don't think I'm going to be enjoying most of it.

I really wish this was like the game where these characters were all meant to be distortions of their fairy tale representations, instead of... whatever this is.

I don't really expect this to get any better, but at least I'm already half way through.

It's really heating up right now!
I'm definitely going to get the next volume! Even more so with the ending of this one

This is an ok series. I probably won't be buying the rest of them. I have the next one, but it's not on the top of my list to keep going. I just don't really connect with the story.
