I am really loving Victoria Walker's Iceland, and this although can be read perfectly as a standalone, is a fabulous follow up to Snug In Iceland.

This time the story focuses on Anna, who is Rachel (the heroine from the previous book)'s best friend, who after being blamed at work for something she didn't do, loses her job and Rachel suggests she comes and visits her in Iceland.

And we also focus on Ned, who was in a boy band, wants to launch a solo career but is having a crisis of confidence and struggling to write music and decides to go to Iceland for a few months to be completely incognito.

It was wonderful catching up with all the characters I loved from the first book, while also getting to know Anna and Ned and seeing Iceland through their eyes.

They had instant chemistry and I really enjoyed seeing how things would potentially develop between them. There are some wonderful descriptions of Iceland, and I could picture everything so clearly.

This was just such a lovely read, featuring romance, Iceland, cosiness, a sexy musician, friendship and just a pure escapist story.

Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I loved the setting of Iceland and the descriptions of all things Icelandic, made me immediately want to book a trip there! Everything from the descriptions of the scenery, beautiful fabrics, wools and food gave me a warm cosy feeling. Anna and Ned’s will they or won’t they get it together story was just beautiful, a perfect romantic read.

I absolutely loved Snug in Iceland by Victoria when I read it last year so was really excited to read this one and get to know Rachel’s best friend Anna a bit whilst spending more time in Iceland. This did not disappoint and I just wanted to keep on reading, Victoria really grabs you with her writing and you feel like you need to know more about the characters and what they’re getting up to.

We meet Anna at a high profile wedding that she’s trying to keep under the radar, it’s safe to say things don’t go quite as planned and everything seems to spiral from there. A phone call to her best friend and we next see her when she’s arriving at the airport in Reykjavik, ready the spend a couple of weeks taking some time with Rachel and Jonas.

This is where the magic starts to happen and we get welcomed straight into the clutches of Rachel and Jonas’ friendship group. The super cosy (if a little small) house just screams comfort to me and I can just imagine being sat there by the fire, under a knitted blanket with a big mug of hot chocolate.

I have to say I was drawn to Ned throughout the book and this feeling only intensified as we went on, even if he did have a few sketchy moments and there was a chunk of the book where I kept waiting for something bad to happen. Him and Anna are just so perfect together, both complementing the other and loving them for who they really are rather than materialistic reasons. I loved the morning scenes in the bakery and it’s made me really fancy a cinnamon bun, I think I may have to treat myself to a couple!

The ending of the book was just so special and I think it summed the book up perfectly, it just felt like a massive book hug and I really can’t wait to see what Victoria comes up with next as I know it’ll be just as special!!

Having been lucky enough to visit Iceland in February 2020, this book brought back lots of lovely memories. Victoria Walker really captures the cold, crisp weather and cosiness of the cafes and bars in Reykjavik. I could really picture everyone getting wrapped up against the cold, enjoying the hot springs and lagoons as well as the magic of seeing the Northern Lights. It was great to meet up with Rachel and Jonas from Snug in Iceland once more, although you can easily read this book without knowing their story.

Anna lost her job very unfairly and is a bit adrift. She takes up her friend Rachel’s invitation to visit while she tries to figure out what to do next. Despite not really being into the natural wonders or understanding the appeal of an outdoor lifestyle in such a cold climate, she soon falls for Iceland’s charms and starts to make friends. Ned has recently left a hugely successful boyband with the aim of going solo. He has come to Iceland for a bit of a retreat and to write for new solo project. Living a quiet incognito kind of life, he is able to live a more normal kind of life and discovers he quite likes it.

As Anna and Ned get to know each other, Iceland works its magic and they are soon smitten but their relationship isn’t without complications or misunderstandings. I’ve often wondered about the difficulties of having a relationship if you’re mega famous. How do you know if the person wants you for yourself or your fame? And what about if you’re dating someone famous? What’s the pressure and press attention like? Well, we certainly get a glimpse of that in this book.

The book has a fabulous ending that will leave you with a warm glow inside. Hideaway in Iceland will have you reaching for the cosy blankets and snuggling up with a hot drink. The book finished on Christmas Eve which the Icelandic people celebrate with Jolabokaflód, If you haven’t heard of Jolabokaflód before, it is a brilliant idea! On Christmas Eve, people exchange gifts of books and then spend the whole evening reading! That would also give me a warm glow inside.

Hideaway in Iceland by Victoria Walker

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

My Opinion

I have read this as a standalone but it didn't spoil my ability to enjoy the book. This year I have read a few books set in Iceland and each one has made me want to visit - with the vivid descriptions this was no different. This was such a nice and relaxing read with some great characters.

Hideaway in Iceland sounded mysterious, and, as I don’t have any books set there, I joined the blog tour. The setting is amazing and the characters are interesting.Victoria Walker has created a cosy, realistic engaging novel that I was happy with as a standalone, but I’d like to have the preview novel too. I hope one day to get a copy.

I felt that Hideaway in Iceland was a good introduction to Victoria Walker’s writing style and I’m happy to have come across another new-to-me author.

Thanks to Ever After Books, Victoria Walker and Rachel’s Random Resources for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

I was very excited to get my hands on this novel, after previously reading Snug in Iceland which I loved! Despite not yet making it to Iceland in real life, immersing myself in Hideaway in Iceland felt like I really was revisiting Reykjavik!

It was lovely to catch up with Rachel and Jonas, as it's always lovely to find out what happens to characters after a story ends. However it was also nice to finally be introduced to Rachel's friend Anna and find out what her story is.

When Anna finds herself jobless without any prospects in London, she finally takes the plunge and heads to Iceland to catch up with Rachel who has embarked on a new life in Reykjavik with her beloved Jonas.

Ned Nokes was a member of one of the biggest boy bands in the world. He is desperately trying to find himself outside of the confines of his group, but with the paparazzi and media always on his tail, he really needs to find somewhere in the world that he can get lost. After settling on Reykjavik, he finds himself able to be himself. No one recognises him as Ned Nokes, famous singer so he finds himself able to relax and work out exactly what kind of music he wants to make for himself.

Naturally Ned and Anna meet in the beautiful setting that is Iceland. What I really enjoyed though is not just that this is a love story - it's also a story about two individuals who are attempting to forge their own paths in life. They don't need each other, but the support they have for one another is really wonderful to follow. They are both equals in the story, and whilst the path of their relationship is definitely not smooth, you can't help but root for them!

I am more than happy to recommend this novel - the setting is stunning and the characters are sweet, loving and ambitious - what's not to like?! So grab yourself a glass of wine and a blanket, and curl up with this lovely novel!

3.8. I would have given it a 4 but at the end, in this day and age, they could have found each other before they did. Especially Ned looking for Anna. She blocked him too hastily imo but he could have reached out to their mutual friends to talk to her. It bugged me.
I will say that I liked this book more than the first.

If there's one thing that I like doing it's discovering new authors. Victoria Walker is certainly a new author for me. I read the synopsis of 'Hideaway In Iceland' and it certainly sounded like the fun and feelgood story that I particularly enjoy. Well it was certainly that and so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Hideaway In Iceland' but more about that in a bit.

I loved the character of Anna Mortimer and warmed to her from the very start. In fact I began to consider her as a 'friend' of mine and I felt all protective of her. When we first meet her she works in public relations and is busy overseeing a 'celebrity wedding'. Without giving too much away something goes wrong and Anna gets the blame even though she isn't at fault. The fall out means that Anna ends up emotionally and mentally battered so she needs to recover. She ends up going over to Iceland to visit her best friend and at the same time taking time out to recover. Then the fun begins. I kept everything crossed that Anna would get the 'happy ever after' ending that she so deserves. What happened? Well for the answer to that question and so much more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you.

Oh my word, 'Hideaway in Iceland' was a beautifully told story and then some. To say that reading it became addictive is a bit of an understatement and then some. I initially picked the book up only intending to read a chapter or two but I was blown away by the story. I became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the story. The first time I looked up to check my reading progress, I was staggered to realise that I had read about a third of the book in one go. I knew that I wouldn't be able to put the book down and so my Kindle went everywhere with me. I loved the characters and I had to keep reading to see if the story concluded in the same way as I imagined it would. I soon got to the end of the story and I had to say a reluctant goodbye to Anna and the rest of the cast. I found 'Hideaway In Iceland' to be a delightful book to read and I enjoyed every single minute of it.

'Hideaway In Iceland' is superbly and beautifully written. Victoria has one of those easy going writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact this book read more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a steady pace throughout. Victoria clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. story had everything - a beautiful sounding location, a lovely female main character, a hint of romance, a handsome sounding rock star, drama and a generous helping of humour. She makes them seem just as real as you and I. I loved the way in which Victoria makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action. That's how I felt anyway.

In short, I adored reading 'Hideaway In Iceland' and I wholeheartedly recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Victoria's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Didn't Hold my Interest...

So I had loved the first book in this series but this one just didn't hold my interest at all. There was too much socializing and not enough of the other stuff that was in the first book...so from my viewpoint the plot was dragging. And I hate it when that happens.

Where was all the unique stuff about Iceland in here? There was plenty of it in the first book but hardly none in this one. So all of the good stuff was missing and there was only the boring drama of who likes who (which I am not really that interested in to be truthful). I mean this story could have taken place in any cold climate.

The story was actually putting me to sleep!! while I had read the first one in a single evening r wide awake. So yeah there is a huge difference!

I also feel I did not relate to any of the characters in this one. I also have big issues with actually believing that an ordinary girl could get hooked up with some pop star from na boy band, the kind of popular boy band that gets chased by the paparazzi. Really?! Sorry but I don't believe that. I find it easier to believe in UFOs, aliens, the secret space force etc before I believe that. And if a book cannot get you to suspend your belief than the story fails. Which this one unfortunately did.

But if you like the kind of fluff story of people meeting in bars and cafes and coffee shops well then you may like this. Because that is pretty much what this is. I also feel the story was more about the pop star who was having an identity crisis than about the female lead character. Which is kind of weird? Even after reading this book the things I know about her are somewhat limited. What springs to mind is that she hates the cold and itchy wool hats. But she is honest. And can keep a secret.

But besides the romance (very light in here) there really isn't much plot wise to keep one's attention. Not for me anyway. The thing is neither of these characters were very outdoorsy and so they rarely went out to see the sights. And seeing the sights is what I had loved about the first book.

The book did not leave me feeling good. That is another thing to consider. The cover looks cheerful but the story - uggh.

I loved this story. Iceland is such a magical country, and for me this book brought that magic in spades. I loved reading about the places I had been and feeling back into the incredible landscape.

I really enjoyed Anna as a main character. Heartbroken from a career disaster, she goes to stay with her best friend in Iceland in order to heal. Realising her life has been entirely about work, she starts to reevaluate what she wants, build lovely friendships and to fall in love wearing itchy woollen hats and jumpers.

Having just walked away from his place in a hugely successful boy band, Ned brought both sparkly glamour and down-to-earth heart to the story. Used to being adored, and traumatised by the constant attention and intrusion, he both expects too much and gives generously of himself, until he feels threatened. When his old life begins to intrude, fight or flight sets in and he pushes Anna away, running back to the world he knows how to control. Ned is in love with the music, a deep feeler and an introvert who wants to be left to live his musical life successfully but privately. He is full of contradictions and that makes him feel wonderfully real.

Together these two have all the chemistry, but in spite of that, it’s not all about them. The friendships they build are the backbone of their new life, and bring humour and a sense of proportion when the world begins to swamp them.

For me this book was a wonderful escape and brings some beautiful elements together in a book that is transporting, romantic and has a lovely down-to-earth feel.

A lovely story with a celebrity
Endeavouring to escape publicity.
A wedding for a friend, a drone there is where it starts
But rumours of its source could tear them apart.

PR executive, Anna Mortimer, has sorted a brilliant deal
For a celebrity couple's wedding in a magazine to have the reveal.
However, a leak means a drone flies by
Escaping she bumps into a star and pulses fly.

Losing her job for something she didn't do,
Anna decides to visit her friend so true.
To Reykjavik is where she goes to stay
Hoping to find herself a new way.

She never imagined the star again she'd meet
But he's there, too, on a kind of retreat.
He's left the band and making a fresh start
But never imagined losing his heart!

A beautiful setting that feels so real
With love, angst and turmoil you're made to feel.
With great characters, places and romance
That has you hoping they'll have a real chance.

A story that has me dreaming of visiting Reykjavik now
Bringing the people and place to life somehow.
It seems a magical - if cold - place to be
I now hope one day really to see.

A lovely wintry read with northern lights and more
As Reykjavik and romance you're invited to explore.
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
Such a fabulous, moving read and this is my honest review.

Having loved the first book in this series, ‘Snug in Iceland’, I was eagerly anticipating a return visit to Reykjavik and it was just as satisfying as before!

If you haven’t read the earlier book, don’t let this put you off as this one can easily be read as a stand-alone (although I’d highly recommend reading both).

Victoria Walker’s main characters are always immensely likeable and I was particularly drawn to Ned in this one in his desire to escape his former life in the public glare.

It was also lovely to catch up with Rachel and Jonas and learn how their relationship had developed.

The overwhelming beauty of these Iceland books, however, is in the description of the setting. I said reading the first book was like being wrapped in a enormous hug and this one is no different. Being able to immerse yourself in all things Nordic is as comforting as the romance that develops between Ned and Anna.

Put simply, this cosy delight is not to be missed!

With thanks to the author and Rachel at Random Resources for the opportunity to participate in the tour.

I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.

Hideaway In Iceland is the follow up book to Snug In Iceland but it can also be very easily be read as a stand alone with no problems at all.

I absolutely loved that this story was set in Iceland as it is one of the places that I would love to visit and this was the perfect way to immerse myself in it. The author’s writing style was amazing and i could definitely imagine myself being there - a little bit of perfect armchair travel!

I really loved the two main characters, Anna and Ned and they had wonderful chemistry too.

This was a warm and cosy and wonderful escapist read and I really enjoyed it…….

Hideaway in Iceland is Victoria Walker’s second book set in Iceland, following Snug in Iceland, however is easily read as a standalone.

This time round we follow Anna, Rachel’s best friend. Anna has lost her job due to no fault of her own and is struggling with how to move forward when Rachel suggests she visits her out in Iceland. Hesitant at first Anna agrees. Ned Nokes was a member of the biggest boy band, having just left the world is watching is every move to see what he does next. Desperate to escape he hides away in Iceland, where he is looking himself to what his next move is going to be. With each Anna and Ned becoming friends with the same group, will they be able to find the same answers as Rachel did.

This book was just as good as Snug in Iceland which I loved. The wintery scenes, the friendship groups, romance and cosy vibes are perfect.

As well as getting to uncover Anna and Ned’s stories and watch their friendship grow, we see the return of Rachel, Jonas and their friends. You could tell there was chemistry between Anna and Ned from the moment they met, so it was good to see how this developed after both escaping to Iceland.

As before Victoria’s writing transports you so that you feel that you are in the pages of the book. She made me want to go to Iceland before but this has just cemented that.

This book feels like a big warm hug and is perfect for curling up in a blanket with a large hot chocolate.

To be found when you’re hiding
Anna Mortimer never thought that a drone would turn her world upside down. Because a drone flying over the wedding of the hottest celebrity couple that Anna was hired as a PR executive, made sure that an exclusive deal was no longer exclusive. Despite her innocence, Anna finds herself without a job and sees that she has no life outside of work to fall back on.
When her best friend Rachel suggest to spend some time together, in Iceland, Anna sees this as the perfect distraction.
But what are the odds to meet Ned Nokes again? Ned, who was also a guest at the same wedding and also member of the most successful boyband. But who now has no clue of what to do next. Ned needs the solitude Reykjavik offers, and finds so much more. Because never having trusted anyone outside his band, he now finds genuine friendship and perhaps even love.
Ever since reading the first book of the series, Iceland climbed higher on my bucket list. While waiting for the right opportunity to visit it in real life, I gladly used this book to take me away on another magnificent journey.
Anna is a character that gave me mixed emotions. While it’s obvious what a great friend she is, supporting Rachel with her new life in Iceland, she also misses her best friend terribly. She is really the kind of friend who puts your own happiness before her own.
So in this case, I absolutely liked Anna from the start.
Yet I also felt sad for her… because not only does she lose her job without a real good reason (only due a case of excluding other people), she also sees how lonely in fact she is.
While her life in London used to filled with many social events, without Rachel by her side, Anna realizes that in fact, she has no real friends.
It also made me sad to learn that Anna never had a real, meaningful relationship, that somehow she is scared to completely open up with a love interest.
I know from previously the magical tricks Iceland can play, so I was very happy and eager to discover what Iceland had in store for Anna.
And I was happy to read that the one person who sparked something in Anna, would be playing a big part in her own quest for happiness.
We all dreamed once in our lives to fall in love with a famous person, a member of a boyband, … but we are all also very realistic to know that those odds are almost non – existing.
But Ned is so much more than just a famous person. And I was eager to discover who Ned really was, together with Ned himself.
I could understand that Ned didn’t know who he is without the band. And also comprehended that he needed to get as far away as possible to discover who the Real Ned Nokes is.
I can only try to understand how difficult the life of a famous person is, and how Ned finds is difficult to trust new people. But Iceland wouldn’t be Iceland if our old friends would just accept Ned between them, famous or not.
Seeing Anna and Ned together was truly heart – warming, despite the cold in Iceland. These are characters that deserve to be happy no matter what. But for gaining that happiness, they have to learn themselves and learn to not only love but most important to trust.
And that is something that infuriated me a little bit in this book, as I know the background, but trust does not mean choosing sides or letting someone down. (this doesn’t make sense if you haven’t read the book, but it will…).

I found this a wonderful sequel, I enjoyed the time I spend with old friends, fell in love with new characters who are, even the famous ones, so recognizable and real.
This book shows us that falling in love is the easy bit, but building trust and let the high walls fall down is a slow process. People can make mistakes while thinking of doing the right thing, but we have to see behind those mistakes and allow ourselves to show forgiveness. Because being without that special person is harder than forgiving a mistake.
But most important is that we all have to take time to get to know not only each other, but also ourselves and see what will make us happy and where we feel the most at home.

3.5* I bought the whole series of these on Kindle with the intention of reading one a month, but as soon as I finished the first one I was eager to begin the second!

It is no literary masterpiece, but it is a fun, easy romance. It definitely lacked depth, which is fine, except sometimes it felt like things were glossed over that could have been explored a little more.

That all being said, I love the characters in this series, and Ned and Anna were especially fun to read about. I continuously look up the places mentioned in Apple Maps to get a feel for the place. Counting down the days to my Iceland trip!

Iceland is my dream holiday destination, the Northern Lights, whale watching and hot springs...perfect 👌

I didn't realise that this is actually the second in a series, but does easily read as a standalone.

The story is beautifully written, the plot engaging and it has some wonderful characters which I loved. Anna and Ned were so good together, the perfect pairing.

Hideaway in Iceland is an absolutely delightful and enjoyable piece of escapism which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Many thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for my tour spot.

Having visited Iceland and absolutely loving it I read the first book, really enjoyed it. So pounced on this one straight away. This time focusing on Anna, I’ve eaten at the Tomato House Restaurant, visited the waterfalls, so could imagine all the settings. Hope there’s a follow up. It’s such a lovely setting. Could do with a swim in the Blue Lagoon to cheer me up. We swam there in a snow storm. Magical.

I read a snug in Iceland at Christmas last year, it was my book for Jolabokaflod - the Icelandic tradition of exchanging books on Christmas Eve.
So, when I saw another book set in Iceland, I knew I wanted to read it. And I loved it!
We got to hear how Rachel & Jonas were as well as the new storyline of Anna and Ned. I am so happy that I have been able to support a local author and my local independent book shop! Thanks Victoria!

I was so excited to see another book by Victoria Walker that is set in Iceland. I loved her first book, and this sequel did not disappoint! It is well-written and a solid romance. It kept me guessing several times. And it was lovely to encounter Rachel and Jonas again, and to get to see their relationship continue.
Iceland has long been on my list of places I want to visit, and these books make me want to go all the more!

Hideaway in Iceland

I really enjoyed this book, I read the first and when I finished straight away I looked for a follow up and found this one. Great stories, I went to Iceland last year so it was great to recognise some of the places I’d been to. Both Rachel and Anna’s stories drew you straight in and I really enjoyed them equally, just sorry I finished both, so now to find something else to read.

A nice follow-up story

I read the first book in this series, Snug in Iceland, and l liked that book, so that's why l read this one. And I'm glad l did, because it made me appreciate this book even more.

It was an easy, cozy read. I liked Anna and Ned and how their relationship developed. It was easy to put yourself in both characters' positions. If you like a nice sweet romance, this is the book for you. But as l said before, go read her first book before you read this one.

A lovely follow up to Snug in Iceland, but which can be read as a stand alone. It's a gentle romance between a woman fired from her PR job and in need of a place to recover, and a musician trying to find his own musical style by hiding away in Iceland.
I wanted to visit Iceland anyway, but this book has made me even more keen to go. Just saving up for some decent thermals....

I enjoyed returning to Iceland and some repeat characters from the first book in the series. This is a lovely cosy romance that you know from the start that things are going to work out favourably, it's just a matter of what obstacles they need to overcome to get their happy ending.
I will be continue with the next book in the series.

This was a cute sequel to Snug in Iceland. I have a hard time sympathizing with the plight of pop stars, so the storyline was less intriguing for me than the first book - but that is totally on me. However, same great characters, same great setting, and much if it was a continuation of Snug, just with a focus on the secondary characters. I like this series!
