Madisyn Carlin has quickly become one of my favorite fantasy authors!

I read IRON first, so I was happy to meet the younger versions of Calvin and Isadora in CROWN. They were both sympathetic characters who had relatable struggles. I also really enjoyed meeting Red's parents, Euler and Janni (who were hilarious, by the way), and seeing Red and Chamonix as toddlers. I'm a reader who appreciates books with some action, so I'm happy to report that CROWN provided me with some suspenseful, action-packed scenes. Calvin and Isadora's romance was sweet and clean, and I was glad to see them get together after all the trouble they went through. One of the themes that stood out to me was being thankful in all circumstances. I love the humor Madisyn Carlin includes in her books, and CROWN was no exception. Overall, I found CROWN to be an entertaining, enjoyable read that I'd recommend to those who love Christian fiction, fantasy novels, and fairy-tale retellings.

5 stars. You might remember how much I loved IRON. You bet I was excited to get my hands on this one. And while it took me way too long to figure out who Calvin & Isadora were, I was DE-lighted when I finally realized it. It was awesome.

Calvin was a very relatable character with his anxiety and his struggle to surrender control to the Lord (and to follow proper etiquette). He was also super sarcastic. #bonuspoints Isadora, on the other hand, was a very ladylike woman who was also super sarcastic (#extrabonuspoints). I also related strongly to her battle with rejoicing and trust. Violet was a perfect antagonist, and so were her henchmen. Particularly Barry or whatever his name was. I mix him up with Bedroes but it is NOT Bedroes’ fault. (He was awesome.) I just can’t remember names. And the kid was a hoot. In spite of being a brat. And I just have to jump on the bandwagon and agree that Euler & Janni were the stars of the show and absolutely HILARIOUS and I really want more of them. XD Red came by her personality honestly. Also, Calvin’s parents were super cute together. :)

I don’t actually know the goosegirl story, except that presumably it involved geese and a girl, so I had no problems with how much or how not much of a retelling this was. But I loved the plot. There was the perfect mixture of humour, excitement, and sweetness. Twist after twist through me off, and I started to honestly doubt how it would all end, poetic justice to the contrary notwithstanding. The romance was super cute, and I loved Isadora’s internal dying at the whole Milord episode. XP

Overall, this was a splendid prequel to IRON and another great book cementing Madisyn Carlin’s place as one of my top favourite and auto buy authors.

Isn't it just beautiful when a series has multiple novellas in-between and before the novels that make up the series? And this book is no different. I just loved seeing all of the characters from IRON!!

Characters: Isadora and Calvin were such sweet and good parents to Chamonix, and I really enjoyed seeing them in their youths. Isadora, while not being the most brave and capable heroine in the world, did all she could to escape her captors and save her people. The characters that can't fight their way out of all of their enemies' clutches are both realistic and so relatable. And then there was Calvin - what a sweetheart! I loved his vulnerability and doubts about both ruling and being able to take care of Isadora. And I loved that both of them cared for each in the most pure of ways. Their relationship wasn't built on temporary, fleeting, and shallow things like appearances, but on the heart and the Savior they both served. So beautiful! And the side characters ... lemme tell you, the side characters this author writes are stellar. I'm ready for a novella about Euler and Janni. They are hilarious!

Setting/Plot/Writing Style: I enjoyed revisiting this world IRON took place in, and while it is fantasy, there's no magic involved. The plot was action-filled but also full of beautiful truths and character development. Not too fast or draggy, which was wonderful. The writing style was typical Madisyn Carlin - so well done and full of humor.

Theme: Gorgeous truths of relying on the Lord for everything and knowing He is with you no matter what sang through this book. Also, the part about giving thanks in all things and giving our worries to the Lord - holding onto them are sins - were so touching. A shortish novella packed with so much lovely wisdom from the Bible!

Overall, a wonderful addition to the Redwyn Chronicles, and we get to see some of our favorite characters again, just as younger people. Now I just need that novella about E + J. :)

Reading again. It’s adorable how quickly Calvin recognizes the imposter. Calvin’s a sweetie.

incredibly sweet story about trusting in God and remembering gratitude

This book was SO incredibly cute!!!!! It was one of the most… believable retellings of The Goose Girl that I’ve EVER read!

I loved how Isadora drew strength from remembering the word of God and the good examples of her mother and aunt. I loved how much Isadora cared about those around her, even when she was facing difficult circumstances.

Calvin *squeals* he is just the SWEETEST!!!! I love how he recognizes the imposter right away and how much he wants to find, rescue, and protect Isadora!

I also loved how Isadora and Calvin got to know each other through letter writing!

Overall, I LOVED this sweet story! Madi’s books never fail to impress!!!

I finally found the time to sit down and read this lovely little gem of a book. I love, love, loved learning Calvin and Isadora’s backstory. It unfolded beautifully with themes of patience, love, and endurance. And perhaps most highlighted of all was the fact that no matter what situation you may find yourself in God is always. Always. there with you working it all out and in the meantime we must have the patience to trust and wait on Him.

“Nothing happens without reason, my dear. We are placed where we are for a purpose. Sometimes we will never learn what that purpose is, but we can rest in peace because we know He is in control.”
Madisyn Carlin, Crown

Rating: ★★★★★
Cleanness: ★★★★*

Oh my word! I love this book so much! I absolutely love fairytale retellings and this was definitely one of my favorite Goose Girl Retellings!

I loved how much faith played a part in CROWN! I also loved how the characters had struggles and struggled with aspects of their faith but still they trusted in the Beginning (God). They felt so real!

Calvin!!! I love Calvin!! He is such a fun character! I love how protective he is and how much he cares for Isadora. He was definitely my favorite character! I also loved how he drank his tea XD.
“Calvin sipped his sugar and cream with a side of tea and made eye contact with Euler.”

Isadora! Sweet Isadora! I loved her character and her strength in her faith. Even through the worst situations and having struggles, she still trusted in the Beginning. Even with her moments of doubts she still relied on Him and that was so beautiful to see. I love how much she cares for her people and how she puts them above herself. I also loved that there was one bible verse that kept coming up and it was that verse Isadora had to struggle with and still trust the Beginning with. I really loved that, it made her character feel so much more real.

I do have to say that I loved that Isadora didn’t know she was being rescued. I feel like when I’ve read similar situations in books the girl knows about it but I loved that Isadora didn’t and fought back.

Euler and Janni were hilarious! I loved all their moments together!
“Party pooper.”
“I’m realistic.”
“You’re a party pooper.”

The crying scene in the study was a favorite! If you read it you’ll understand why! THE PROPOSAL!!! That made me so happy!!!

I loved this book! My only complaint is that it's too short (I know it’s a novella and those are short but still). Seriously, I would have loved a longer version just because I love these characters and this story so much. I want more, lol!

*Cleanness: This is a clean read. The only thing to note are mentions of blood, wounds, poisoning, fight scenes, kidnapping, death (including that of a loved pet). Otherwise this is clean and I highly recommend reading!

———I want to give a big thanks to the author for letting me read this eARC book! This is an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions I have expressed are my own.

Ack! This series has me hook, line, and sinker! I am in love, and I can't wait for book 2 to release! Eeep!

Characters:
Calvin was such a good character, his heart, his doubts about being king, I love this guy! I know the author said she never imagined having an MC named Calvin, but I love it! (Calvin is a pretty popular name in my neck of the woods, so he fits in down here...I might adopt him...lol...)
Isadora was a dear...her fire and heart and gentle personality made her such a sweet thing!
Also, that epilogue with certain characters was just the cutest! And I loved getting to meet Red's parents in this book!

Themes:
Giving thanks in all circumstances, which is super hard! I've often doubted myself, wondering how to give thanks in circumstances... like when my dad was diagnosed with CML or when we had to move and just so many other things...it's a beautifully true reminder! As is the one about not micromanaging that's in here...guilty control freak over here...

Romance:
Sweet clean... one kiss. Always very well done!

Magic:
N/A

Language:
N/A

Overall:
I loved this story! The themes, the characters, and just everything! Definitely an awesome addition to the amazing Redwyn Chronicles!

I absolutely adored Iron, so I was really excited for this prequel! And I liked it--I did--just not as much. Maybe I wasn't in the right headspace for it, and the next time I read it, I'll find it absolutely brilliant. I don't know. For some reason, the things that bugged me just bugged me worse in this one than the other. Or maybe it was that we understood the broad outlines of the villain's plot from pretty close to the beginning, so I didn't have that driving suspense of "what on earth is happening?" to push me forward.

Calvin and Isadora were sweet. I would have loved to have more time with the two of them together. And to be honest, I had a hard time seeing why the lessons that were being pressed on them were so badly needed. Absolutely agreed that learning to depend on God is a lesson that we all need to learn at a deeper and deeper level, and it's good to remember that we can't solve everything on our own, but...maybe it was just that we hadn't been shown why these were issues that needed to be specifically worked out of them? With Calvin especially, I felt like he got slapped down pretty fast at times for showing the slightest amount of worry, when he had pretty good reason. I don't know--it just never really struck me that the lessons they were supposed to be learning either related to a flaw we'd been shown or made much of a difference in the end.

Plot-wise, it felt like a lot of the book was spent in waiting. Which is good if the lesson you need is patience, I guess, but it didn't really keep me turning pages. And there were times when I really didn't understand why certain conversations were just left hanging or why it took so long to follow up on some leads. Some of the scenes in the middle got to feeling kind of repetitive, and sometimes it seemed like we went back over the same ground in multiple scenes without really adding any new information. Then again, I don't know the original story, so how much of it might be tied to the retelling aspect I can't speak to.

Also, I know it's weird, and I know that in an invented setting and history like this, there aren't "historical" accuracies to preserve. But when aspects of the setting roughly evoke a certain time period, and especially when some of the dialogue and writing style seem to match that essence, it really jars me to have very modern words like "micromanagement" thrown around. Should it bother me? Probably not. But did it anyway? Unfortunately, yeah.

Finally--Euler and Janni. I wanted to love them. After all, I adored Red! And I did like them...some of the time. I appreciate humorous beats breaking up a tense moment. I do! And I enjoy banter, a lot. But theirs always seemed to crop up in the absolute worst of places--interrupting really tense and important conversations without getting back to the subject at hand, or worse, when the situation called for stealth and silence--like when they were actively spying on the bad guys! I really wanted to enjoy their banter, but more often than not, I just wanted to reach into the book and shake them. (And I'm pretty sure I actually murmured "be quiet!" to my Kindle a couple of times...) So--I guess I really was immersed in the story in those bits, but just not in a way that endeared me to the characters I was trying to love.

That's a lot of critiques. I know it is. And I did like the story overall. The lessons were good. The characters were sweet. Maybe I would have enjoyed my time with them better if I'd had a better feel for them before their world was thrown upside down? Or like I said, maybe it was me. I've been sick and tired and trying to get back into reading, which has been so much harder lately than I'm used to, for reasons I don't understand. So for some reason the things that stick out are the things that grated and not the things that I loved. Still very much looking forward to the next one in the series and hoping that I connect with it better. <3

Breathtaking story!!

5 stars for this spectacular book!

I can't believe I hadn't read any of Ms. Carlin's works before-  I've seriously been missing out on a great author!
She writes with a beautiful style similar to that of Melnaie Dickerson, captivating the reader from the very first page! This story is very loosely based on the fairytale, The Goose Girl.

The action was intense, the characters absolutely hilarious, and the romance sweet and clean. I loved the pen pal aspect between Isadora and Calvin as well. And the faith lesson was beautiful.

I can't wait to read the next book in her series, Iron!

I received a complimentary e-book from the author to review. A positive review was not required of me, and the thoughts above are my own.

Really enjoyed the themes of giving thanks in all circumstances and remembering that God is with us everywhere! Did you ever stop to think of where all everywhere is? Everywhere!

I really enjoyed the first half of the book - and the second half was good too, but I also felt like things got a little bogged down in the writing - it went a little slow for me. But overall, it was a good story, and it was fun to get a peak into the lives of Chamonix and Redywn's parents' stories!

I always appreciate Carlin's clean and sub-plot romance!

An amazing novella that teaches the plans of the Beginning (God), and how all things work according to His purpose and plans. So many Biblical themes were explored and it was great seeing how Calvin and Isadora eventually learned how to trust the Beginning.
I loved the family dynamics between Calvin and his parents and Jannie and Euler were so amusing. Their kids were so adorable too! This novella was great in exploring many concepts such as perseverance, trust, and that we are never alone.
Such a well-written novella that fully explores all concepts and delves into each character's personality. I really felt for Isadora and Calvin and I loved how well their relationship progressed. Great novella!

Madisyn Carlin does not disappoint! I loved Crown and would recommend it a thousand times!

What I loved most about this sweet fairytale retelling was how Isadore wasn’t the stereotypical headstrong, overly independent princess that has become so popular lately in YA novels. She was a normal person that I could relate to and I loved that about her!

And then there was Calvin *dreamy sigh* He also didn’t fit the stereotype for YA princes. He wasn’t the best at the sword and struggled with doubts about how he could ever fill his father’s shoes. But, through this book, you can see his character development.

Most importantly, these books helped me walk closer with Christ! Though I’ve never been kidnapped (and hopefully never will be😅), I related to the struggles they had in their faith. I loved watching them grow closer to the Beginning and grew in my faith as well! Thank you for such a beautiful read, Madisyn! My only complaint is that it was too short (yes, I know it’s a novella but I need more🥰)

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Madisyn Carlin has done it yet again! This novella tugged at my heartstrings, made me laugh, and was overall such a satisfying story I greatly look forward to experiencing again sometime. (Experiencing because with Carlin's novels, I never just read them. It's a whole experience. *winks*)

First of all, I absolutely love Calvin!!! (Does he have a fanclub? Cause I'll join it if so!) His fierce protectiveness and sarcastic thoughts endeared him to me at once, and I enjoyed seeing him young, as I've met him before in IRON. His humor is adorable, and his dynamics with his father and mother made me laugh often, especially with how they unknowingly (or is it knowingly) embarrass him in regards to his affection for Isadora. His lowly opinion of himself and his awareness of his weaknesses, despite the cocky displays he sometimes puts on, make him relatable and easy to like. And his love of sugar cracked me up. (He needs to learn to like tea, in my opinion. How does he survive sickness?!!?)

Next, my dear Isadora. The poor girl went through so much (and no one could call her physically strong), but she has such a sharp mind, strength of spirit, and a faith that carried her through her trials, even though it was tested many a time. I love how she paid attention to all the wise words her aunt Chamonix told her and remembered them when she needed them. And of course, her insults on are ON POINT. (If only I could come up with insults like that when I need them! *sobs*)

And speaking of that, I loved the attention to detail the author showed in giving certain characters their own verbal quirks and oft-used phrases. It wasn't overdone to the point of being annoying, but rather solidified their character and made them feel more real!

The mentor figures in this book (Father especially - and Aunt Chamonix, of course) impart so many gold nuggets of wisdom! Also, Janni and Euler Deathan are way too hilarious. I can't even. No wonder Red is the way she is! *snickers*

Of course, the villains are...bleugh. (I don't know if that's a real word or not. But it aptly describes how I feel about them. XD) Lady Joh- excuse me, Impostor deserved all the insults she got! That girl makes my skin crawl.

The romance was so SWEET!!! Ahhh!!! I loved the combination of heartache and humor during that crying scene - if you know, you know. It was hilarious and totally endearing! (And can I just say, Carlin's proposal scenes have a tendency to be utterly endearing and give me ALL THE FEELS. They're so awkward and unconventional in the cutest possible way!) All of it was so, so good.

The theme of this novella soaked through each page in such a refreshing, upbuilding way. It was based on 1 Thessalonians 5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." When I first started reading, I wasn't expecting that verse to show up so often, but honestly, it took that many times for the true meaning of that verse to really sink into my mind, and watching the characters hold to that command throughout the story made it hit home.

Suspense and intrigue, strong Biblical themes, dashes of snark, and a sweet thread of romance make up this fairytale-based novella! I so enjoyed it and recommend it to everyone who loved IRON, or any of Madiysn Carlin's writing, for that matter!

SOME FAVORITE QUOTES

"As my instructor would say, 'patience, grasshopper'."

"Dear, the Beginning will allow us to walk through tests we will find most unpleasant. It is how we grow and mature in our faith. All you can do during those times is trust Him."

Cease this. The time for tomfoolery is over.

Calvin sipped his sugar and cream with a side of tea and made eye contact with Euler.

A nation is only as strong as its faith.

How weird!

I read this awhile ago, and somehow neglected or forgot
( can I blame it on old age...just say yes...please)
to write a review.
Sorry!

It was great...
I do remember having a hard time with the suspense,
but it was such a good story, with strong Biblical themes, etc.

Anyway, I remember greatly disliking the villainess!
But the prince saw thru her almost right away
Still, I wish it did not take so long for everyone,
to be 100% certain, she waas a phony
arrrgghh

But I loved the good guys and gals!

My Review: 5 out of 5 Stars

Yet another wonderful installment in The Redwyn Chronicles! Even though this was a short read, I enjoyed every bit of it. Since this was shorter than novel-length (novella, I believe?), this review will also be shorter than usual.

I loved having a look into the backstories of Isadora and Calvin, as well as Euler and Janni. Particularly Red’s parents. I just love Red as a character, so seeing where she got her spunk from was very entertaining. If you love Red, you will love her parents. (Also, the little bit at the end about Calvin and his addiction to sweets was such a great touch!)

The plot kept me on the edge of my seat and didn’t feel too slow or too fast. The Biblical themes were timely and a good reminder that God works out everything for good. The romance was, as always, clean and sweet. I loved seeing both a married and unmarried couple, as well as the epilogue. Oh, the EPILOGUE. I always appreciate when authors skip forward a few years or so at the end. I won’t spoil too much, but it was really good.

Whether you’re looking for more Redwyn Chronicles backstory or are craving a short but sweet read, I highly recommend Crown!

I know, I know, I'm late to the party. To be honest, I think I needed to re-read this one before properly reviewing it...and then I proceeded to give up on re-reading it and I dunno if I'll try again.

I'm waffling between 2.5 and 3 stars because I liked the Deathans, but other than that, I don't think this book was for me. I couldn't connect with Isadora and she kind of grated on me a few times.

A more minor note would be that seeing 'son' capitalized when it wasn't at the beginning of a sentence was a bit...jolting? I've only ever seen it capitalized when referring to Jesus so to see it capitalized when it isn't referring to Jesus was weird. And the writing style seemed stiff. But that could just be me.

I'll still recommend it though because I know it'll resonate with others.

EDIT: Forgot to add I recieved an ARC in exchange for a review but was not required to writ e a positive one. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This novella about King Calvin and Queen Isadora is a nice addition to the Redwyn Series. They were both such sweet characters 🥰

There were several other characters I enjoyed seeing younger versions of like the captain and Halda (Red and Chamonix also make a quick appearance and that scene was cute.)

There is some serious conniving and “bad guy” elements in the plot including attempted murder and kidnapping (“Imposter” is a nasty character). As with “Iron” though, it was tastefully handled, and there’s a clear line of right and wrong.

An endearing Christian Novella

Isadora is forced to become a goose girl while a nefarious plot unfolds. Meanwhile, Prince Calvin is searching for his lost friend and must unravel the secrets of the plot before it's too late.

I have never read from this author before, let alone a Christian fantasy, and I started with Crown as an introduction to the series. Carlin's writing is clear and engaging and I was engrossed from the first page. She is talented with the ability to convey complex characters and emotions.

I enjoyed both Isadora and Calvin as characters. I also liked the message about faith and relying on God through difficult times, but I wish the characters were given a tiny bit more flexibility to be able to be allowed emotions like concern or grief.

With that said, I enjoyed the plot and how it all unfolded. As a romantic at heart, I enjoyed Isadora and Calvin's relationship and wanted a little more. But, that's a personal preference (not a critique) and it did not deter from the book as a whole.

Overall, this was a great novella with heartfelt themes. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a captivating, Christian fantasy.

Trigger warning: a beloved dog is killed (that took me by surprise), mentions of murder, poison, mentions of abuse, swordplay, mentions of non graphic wounds and blood. One kiss (not descriptive)

Welcome to the literary abyss, where Carlin manages to turn storytelling into a sanctimonious spectacle that rivals a self-righteous soapbox preacher. If you're yearning for a narrative that smothers you with moralizing to the point of suffocation, look no further – this book is your one-way ticket to Preachy Prose Purgatory.

Right from the first page, it's apparent that subtlety and finesse are foreign concepts to this author. The narrative bulldozes through any hope of genuine storytelling, with characters resembling cardboard cutouts animated solely to parrot the author's holier-than-thou sermons. Forget character arcs or relatable experiences; these puppets are on a mission to force-feed readers a dose of the author's virtuous agenda.

The sheer audacity to assume readers need to be beaten over the head with moral lessons is staggering. It's as if [Author's Name] believes readers are incapable of independent thought and need a literary babysitter to guide them through the treacherous landscape of the story. The result is a literary catastrophe, a barren wasteland where storytelling goes to die beneath the weight of relentless preachiness.

Character development is an afterthought in this moral crusade. The characters are more like marionettes, dancing to the tune of the author's moral superiority. Any potential for genuine emotion or connection is sacrificed on the altar of the author's unyielding need to impart her moral wisdom at the expense of an engaging narrative.

In the annals of literature, Carlin seems to have missed the memo that storytelling is an art, not a pulpit for a dogmatic sermon. This work stands as a cautionary tale for aspiring writers on how to alienate an audience by treating them as incapable of intellectual autonomy.

One can only hope that Carlin takes a crash course in the basics of storytelling, learning that the power of literature lies in its ability to provoke thought rather than bludgeoning readers into submission. Until then, this literary disaster remains a testament to the perils of sacrificing artistry for the sake of an insufferable moral crusade.

But hey, if you just want to read a laundry list of the author's opinions, go for it!

A sweet tale. Seeing King Calvin and Queen Isadora's origins was enlightening, and gave the pair more depth. They're such a cute couple! ❤️

The only foible I had was that the Deathans were a bit exaggerated in their silliness-- their daughter is such a lovable grump that I was surprised to see that they were more on the goofy end. Still, I think they served the story well, and I love that they get along with each other famously, while still trading insults. There are also sweet, intimate moments (such as them bandaging one another, or Euler rubbing Janni's feet when she's tired) that balance out the goofball moments.

I also REALLY liked the detail that Isadora's family's area of the kingdom is where all the feathers come from. (For those of you who haven't read this series, in the kingdom of Veerham, feathers in one's hair are used to denote social and marital status-- which was a worldbuilding detail I was fascinated with for no particular reason.)

Crown is an excellent beginning to the Redwyn Chronicles!

The characters were very well fleshed out. Calvin and Isadora made such a sweet couple, and I loved watching them come together. But my favorite characters out of the whole story had to be Euler and Janni, hands down. Their wits and sarcasm had me laughing and leaning forward every time they entered the scene.

I loved the Biblical values woven through the story, and I deeply appreciate how Madisyn kept the romance clean, yet believable.

And, of course, the greatest test in if I really like a book is whether I move on to the next book in the series. I did. I grabbed Iron without a second thought and sat right back down to keep reading. So, yes, I guess the Redwyn Chronicles have me caught--hook, line and sinker.

"Crown (The Redwyn Chronicles #0.5)" by Madisyn Carlin is a captivating Christian fantasy novella that offers a reimagining of the classic fairy tale "The Goose Girl." As the first book I've read by this author, Carlin's writing immediately drew me in with its clear and engaging style.

Isadora Fendalva, a noblewoman-turned-goose girl, finds herself entangled in a sinister plot orchestrated by her maid, who poses as Isadora to carry out nefarious schemes against the royal family. As Isadora navigates her new life herding geese and grappling with the challenges before her, she relies on her faith and trust in God to guide her through adversity.

The novella explores themes of gratitude and faith, reminding readers of the importance of trusting in God's presence even in the darkest of times. While the story has a strong start and a satisfying conclusion, there are moments in the middle where the pacing slows down as Prince Calvin, the male protagonist, is urged to wait and refrain from taking action. However, the side characters bring depth and enjoyment to the narrative, adding richness to the story's unfolding.

The characters, particularly Isadora and Prince Calvin, are well-developed and relatable, with their struggles and vulnerabilities adding depth to their personalities. The message about faith and reliance on God resonates throughout the story, providing readers with heartfelt themes to ponder.

Overall, "Crown" is a delightful novella with heartfelt themes and engaging characters. It offers a captivating Christian fantasy retelling of "The Goose Girl" that will appeal to readers looking for a meaningful and uplifting story. Whether you're a fan of fairy tale retellings or Christian fiction, this novella is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Having been instated as my favorite Carlin series thus far, I naturally have been on a mission to collect the entire series. #Bookdragon 😇

This was so GOOD! The retelling aspect was spot on and the characters on point (in fact, that was probably my favorite part—seeing all the characters we only hear about in the rest of the series! [Red's parents are, by far, my favorites. Those who know me will not be shocked. 😆])

And it looks so cute next to its siblings on my shelf! 🤭

This was a fun backstory novella to the rest of the Redwyn Chronicles. The plot was largely predictable which gave it a different slightly less satisfying feel than the rest of the series, but I still enjoyed it and it had good stakes and engaging characters. I LOVED and couldn't get enough of the two detectives.
