War is coming . . .

Envy and Wrath have a feud that has transcended generations, and along with the other competitors of The Devil’s Trials, Octavia must navigate through dangerous terrain, facing monsters and men, to the arid Wrathlands.

There, she will face the sin of Wrath.

The lion-branded war camps are a dangerous place, their heralding angel a frenzy of tumultuous rage and death. Octavia finds herself tasked to train for a war she would rather avoid. She’s not sure she has what it takes physically, mentally, or emotionally to succeed without the devil’s aid.

Octavia has fought her way to defeat Gluttony and Envy, but can she survive a war?

Half the time Stephanie exists in the escapist daydream world that is the mind of an author... Dancing with the fae, running from villains, and making deals with the devil. The best place to find all her story inspiration.

The rest of the time, she lives in Australia with her husband and great dane, she's a nurse, loves baking and loathes doing the dishes.

Stephanie has always loved reading, and started writing as a high-schooler with a penchant for fanfiction. She spent years on role play forums with other writers and there's a hidden USB in her house full of finished but never to be published projects.

In 2022 she released her first book, Feast of Samael, and hasn't looked back since.

Just Wow!

Stephanie Gluck has done it again!!

From the get-go, this book threw me back into the action following on from Heist of Haures Heist of Haures I could feel the excitement and adrenaline from the character within the first few chapters. Action doesn't even cover it! I wasn't expecting the start of this book to be so fast-paced but Stephanie Gluck wrote it so well it felt more like a continuation of the previous book Heist of Haures (above).

This book has a very different reading structure to the first books but it fits so well with The Devil's Trials series, this book allows a different side of the author’s experiences and research to show itself, without giving too much away, as the title suggests there is an element of War in this book including everything that surrounds it e.g. Army, Soldiers, Command structures and training for all of those things. After having read the book and acknowledgments you can tell that the author cared about the feeling of the descriptions being accurate, this research gives you a grittier and more realistic feeling of how training for an army (even fictitious) would not be glamourous and could be potentially deadly.

I feel for the lead character Octavia, she has had desperation her whole life, and now she found a potential way out through the trials, she is discovering more about her limits and herself as a person, which is evident throughout the series so far with how the Stephanie Gluck has written each book growing the character more and more.

I would highly recommend this book, series, and author to anyone looking to get into fantasy or even a Fantasy Veteran, I have bought the physical copies of this series and cannot wait for the rest!

2023:
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review.
I have very mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed it. But it definitely didn't hold my attention like the first 2 books in the series did.
I liked the concept. I thought the idea of Wrath's army and how that all played out was done well.
I thought there were some things that could definitely be refined though...
1. Ngaire dying felt unnatural and out of place. I don't feel like it was done well or made any sense in relation to the story. Losing her to another part of the training and not as a direct result of Octavia's actions (or at least as part of Wrath's blind fury influence toward each other) would have made much more sense.
2. There were inconsistencies with character stories and personalities. Cyn was back and forth referred to as 'she and her' and 'they and them'. Nik's 180° regarding his behaviour toward Octavia was out of left field and didn't feel like it was properly explained/transitioned. Even the attitude of General Inania and Major Akua toward the recruits felt all over the place.
I didn't love the ending. To take away Nik so soon after losing Mik felt like a rip off. Octavia said Wrath was Nik's sin to bear and yet I feel like the story would have felt more complete if he'd actually manage to beat that sin. I understand the idea that like Mik, he's folded to the son he struggles with the most but I feel like it just fell short. I loved Pride's cameo at the end to retrieve Octavia. I am very interested to see how their story pans out.

This is my favorite in the series, so far!

This book focussed much more on the main group of characters, pushing some of the others far to the side. Octavia experiences so much growth in this book. Despite how traumatic it all is, it's still so exciting to see her growing as a person. Developing the physical strength that she has lacked, growing a proper backbone, and finally recognizing some semblance of a morality. The path that she's on nay be horrible and awful, but she's turning into a better person than she ever would have been if she had stayed home.

I love the development that we see between Octavia and Samael, and the hard truths that she faces with Niklaus. The interactions feel more genuine now than they did before.

I'm super excited to read the next book and see her return to Pride. She's an entirely different person now, and she understands the danger that the angels present. It's going to be interesting to see how she survives the next trial.

this was a strong third entry in The Devil's Trials series, it had what I enjoyed from the previous two books. It was a strong entry in the dark fantasy genre and I was invested in the world. Octavia was a great character and I was engaged with her story. It left me excited to read more and getting to go on this journey. Stephanie Gluck has a great writing style that left me wanting to read more.

"The rebellion should have met us here, I thought, in the quiet moment when realisation dawned. We were just as forgettable as these people, and our own villages could be decimated just as easily and left behind. It would have been more impactful than a meeting at a tavern, a proposal over a mug of brew. Their offer would have held me over the bones of our brethren. It would have left me on the verge of joining."

Octavia can’t seem to catch a break, after surviving Gluttony and Envy she is marching towards Wrath where she will face the third trial, who will survive and who will fall victim to the ongoing war?
Did I send a few messages to Stephanie while reading this? Yes… you know that feeling when you read something that breaks you so hard you just wanna ask the author why tf did you do that to me! Yeahh… sorry about your insta messages being spammed by a broken Molly ;)
As with the first books the writing is awesome, the characters are *chefs kiss* the story will make you want to cry, laugh and throw your book/tablet all the way to Eternis. Definitely recommend it!

- The Summary -

Ire of War is book three of The Devil's Trials and picks up immediately after Envy's trial.

In book #2, there were hints at the war between Envy and Wrath; but now we get a much closer look. The competitors get placed in the center of the Angel's war and have to train and survive.

- The Review -

Unfortunately, this book had a much slower pacing so it was hard to push through the second half of the book. I had to take a bit of a hiatus about half way through and came back with renewed vigor. That said, I'm glad I came back and finished it; a little sad with the ending but excited for the next installment.

Thank you Stephanie Gluck and BookSirens for access to this Arc. I received an advanced review copy for free and this review is left voluntarily.

Book three of the Devils Trials and I am HOOKED!

Octavia scraped through the trial of Envy, broken and alone.

Next stop, Wrath.

Unlike the previous trials, the handful of competitors must make their way across the dangerous lands between sins on their own, and are hounded on all sides until they land in their next trial - in the Wrath war.

Octavia must not only dig deep, she must develop strength and resilience beyond her imagination to survive even one day of this trial, and once again her companions are pitted against each other in another epic game of survival.

The War of Wrath will cost her in every way, and losing those she has grown to care for will continue to haunt her, right through to the ending we weren't expecting.

Book four can't come soon enough!

This was the best book of the series so far. I have enjoyed the way each angel of sin doesn’t just test the contestants physically but makes them fight their inner demons. While Octavia is a imperfect protagonist, her will to survive and willingness to help and form attachments to her fellow competitors even after all of her pain and loss is relatable and makes you want to see her succeed. I cannot wait for the next one! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wrath is a hard sin to swallow. I enjoyed Octavia's growth as she continues to fight her way through the trials. Her relationship with Sam is becoming an interesting plot line. It leads to wonder if she would have gotten this far in the trials without his assistance. The pacing of the book was definitely slower, but I felt the ending was almost to rushed. I hope to see the next installment answer some questions I have remaining. All in all I still thoroughly enjoy this series and this book.

*I received an advance review copy*

This is one of the best dystopian fantasy books I have read. At first I must say I didn’t like Octavia but as I have continued to read the books I have started to understand and like her more. The story is amazing and I love seeing what the next trial will bring us. The book is full of adrenaline and it makes you feel a lot of emotions. Loved that it picked up right where the last one stopped and we just continued with the story. I am really exited to continue this series and see what else this author writes.

I stumbled upon this series from a Facebook ad, and I'm not sure exactly what drew me to try it but I'm so glad I did.
Octavia has grown on me and it's so good to see her finally growing up as a person and starting to find who she is and her own place.
There's so many little things that happen that I absolutely don't see coming and all of the ending was exactly that!
Highly recommend throwing yourself into this series, I cannot wait for book 4!

This book follows Octavia’s journey after Envy and Ire of war does not disappoint. The trials are not for the weak hearted and Octavia has to keep proving her mettle along with the other participants. How long can Octavia hold on to her nerve… only time and the books will tell.

Continuing the very cool theme - we got to see that the angels can make them do additional tasks besides the devils trials (having to kill someone). Can’t believe the trial lasted 12 months. Poor Tav, her army partner dying - her friends always die. The fact that wrath and envy actually fight in combat was pretty cool. There mustn’t be too many of them left to compete in the next trials.

This series just keeps getting better and better- a fresh, imaginative take on the seven deadly sins but with trials and houses. The plot is so gripping, the characters are all varied, unique and grow with each book and the series (whilst dark in parts) is also impossible to put down. I cannot wait to dive into the fourth instalment.

first thoughts!
First Action as I loved book 3 so much I just pre ordered - Tower of Hubris (The Devil's Trials Book 4) which Due to be Nov 2023! Hot for return of sinful character there from an earlier book!

This Book! This overall Journey of Octavia - really counts for something and it not just the end game of each of the trials. This journey for this flawed morally grey heroine and her rise in each book is becoming more on her terms - the growth in respect for Octavia has been wonderful to observe - and the Jealously in that change it causing 🤌.

I have really enjoyed:
- Stephanie Gluck has surprised me in each book - storyline never went where I thought character was going.
-In the Found Family, from the blatant treachery to uniting to work as team when needed. Plus she has good crew in Finley and Nash.
-The Friction of past loves,
- Once Branded as the untrustful pariah in community and seen as less than more. Through actions which may not be perfect Octavias guile and brashness has a place.
-Working around Octavia's lack of the ability to read and her many disadvantages.
- also some her disadvantages have become advantages in schemes of survival.
- Theories abound - hmmmm this book had me Stronger on emerging Samael theories-
- Twins - I will admit their side adventures and activities in book 2&3 - are nowhere on track to my thoughts in book 1 in that book they had their own close eco-system. & thats the wildness of growth through the trials.
- Battle scenes, training and close quarter combat
- This trial Honcho - was a real boss bitch!
- Romance is best decribed as alot of flirting with danger - too be honest Octavia's kinda busy stayin alive - never has a quiet safe corner ( even a bed)as the others in book have for their trysts& alliances activities.
- laughed & smirked a fair bit in the book.

Best one so far of the series

Excellent, full of action and unexpected twists towards the end. Some spelling and grammatical errors throughout but not enough to take away from the read.

Wrath is an emotion that can bring out the worst in anyone, but learning how to manage it and not act on it can be a whole challenge in itself. A challenge that they are now facing as they are foced into Wraths army against Envy.
Being forced be become strong soldiers and learning to fight is exactly how they will make it out of this challenge alive.

The Wrath takes it toll.

I really enjoyed books 1 & 2 so was excited to leap into this next one.

However this trial, is a long, painful, tedious task. And our team learn about the perils of war and the fortitude of patience.

This, like war, is very violent and the trial competitors dwindle.

I think the end of this trial was very unexpected and hope that those that part are reunited in the end. But it’s doubtful for a happy outcome.
