Penelope Black lives in the Midwest with her husband and two tiny humans. When she's not writing, she enjoys over-the-top action movies, iced chai lattes, and soaking up the sun in her backyard with a good book.
In the aftermath of the explosion at the church, against all odds, Maeve finds herself face-to-face with the Santorini heir she was contracted to marry.
With their list of enemies growing exponentially, they all board a private plan bound for an undisclosed island until they can make a plan.
During their sabbatical, Maeve is able to get to know each Santorini brother independently.
I loved that Maeve remained just fierce in the second half of the story despite her pregnancy. I do wish, however, that we would have seen more of the growth in her relationships with the brothers. Likewise, it would have been nice to see how they function as a unit.

This was an enjoyable shorter read that picks up right where The Wren left us. I still absolutely adore the King sisters and hope to see more of them in the future.
I really like our little group in this book and the growth in their dynamic. I do wish there were less time jumps and more details so I could fully see their relationships grow and develop as a family. It made everything feel a little more rushed than I would have liked but it wasn’t too bad. I do enjoy the men and Maeve and hope to see more of them in the future. I would say this is about a 3.75 star read for me, but I’m rounding up to the closest star for GR purposes.
I think this is a fun duet, that is an easy and quick read. Both books are easy to get lost in which is always a nice find!
The Wild by Penelope Black is the second book in The Last Vegas Duet, which is part of The King Sisters World.
The story picks up exactly where we left off in The Wren, unfortunately that doesn’t mean that Maeve and the Santorini brothers - Nico, Romeo and Tommy get their HFN/HEA straightaway. Nope, there’s a bounty on each of their heads and Meave’s is the largest.
This mafia, reverse harem romance adds in an accidental pregnancy, angst, drama and more. As Maeve and the Santorini brothers have to get through living on an island together, where tensions are high between some of the characters, unknown outcomes about the hit on them are in play and let’s not forget a baby…but who’s the daddy?
POV’s mainly from Maeve, but also from the guys in her harem - Nico, Romeo/Rome and Tommy/Tommaso.
I know this is a duet, but I hope that there’s more from the King Sisters in the future. I even think that maybe Maeve’s story isn’t quite complete yet - at least I hope.
After absolutely loving The Wren I was really looking forward to the conclusion of this duet. And what a disappointment it was. It hurts me to have to rate it so low but this was NOT good.
It is a short book and so much of it is spent on descriptions of things that do not matter and inner monologue (that page describing the villa could have been spent on them having an actual adult conversation about their relationship in my opinion). It would have been so much better if this was spent on relationship development or tying up the loose ends. This book also could have benefited from being longer. All in all it feels very rushed. The writing isn't as good as it was in The Wren, there are inconsistenties in the story, after the 50% mark there are constant time jumps and a lot of things happen off page. Most importantly the relationship development. I constantly felt like I was missing information. Towards the end everything ties up way too quickly, if at all. It's a lot tell and no show.
I get that author's don't want to keep their readers waiting on a sequel and that there is pressure to release books. But I'd rather wait a long time for a good book than read something that doesn't feel finished.
I have to say that I liked The Wren and had high expectations for this book. It is hard to like all the main characters in a RH book, and it happened to me in the first one of the duet. I think that they had potential and was expecting their relationship to develop in a normal pace. However, I have the feeling that despite having postponed The Wilds's release date, the author has written it in a rush and the day before it was due. Readers cannot see the development of Maeve and the boys' relationship. There are a lot, and when I say a lot is A LOT of time jumps, and their progress cannot be observed. Plus, the end is disappointing to say the least. All in all, I feel like this book has not been taken seriously by the author, whose other series I've read, liked and recommended.
I loved Maeve, she was such a badass character, from start to finish. Her and her sisters are the definition of women supporting women.
I loved the different POV chapters, I could really tell who’s mind I was in even without there being a chapter title of the character.
I did have some issues with the pacing, it went super fast, super slow, and then rushed everything towards the end. There were moments I wanted to see elongated, particularly with the men in her harem because to me, it felt a bit like lust. I wanted more sweet moments with them each individually. Plus, it’s hard to imagine they’d agree to a harem situation when they’re brothers and all fiercely jealous. I did want more spicy scenes tho 🥺. They were a bit rushed and not written out completely so the few there was faded to black.
Everything was wrapped up pretty well! From what I’ve read from The Wren and now The Wild, I’m excited for more dark mafia by Penelope Black.
Another great fast paced book in this mafia world I absolutely love! With book one ending the way it did I was so excited to jump into this second part of the duet to see how Maeve would get through all the chaos.
Everything finally comes together between Maeve and her guys and all their secrets start tumbling out. The three brothers figuring out they all knew her was priceless and a possessive competition! This book moved at a fairly fast pace and had me on the edge of my seat turning pages quickly! I absolutely love a why choose romance and the dynamics, especially when they are super possessive & protective. If you haven’t read this duet yet, I highly recommend it. Start with The Wild, book one in the duet, or start the world off with The Brotherhood series to see the history of some of the major players in this world & duet.
I absolutely loved the first book in this duet but for some reason this one fell a bit flat for me. I think it just felt rushed or maybe I loved these characters so much that I wanted and needed more of them. With this books focusing on their time building their relationships would've been the perfect middle book in a trilogy. It was just spicy enough as they got to know each other again and face their new reality and then the final book be focused on their return to Vegas again. I just wanted so much more of these men and Mauve! I'm glad that this is not it for the King sisters. Their family dynamic was funny and intense. It was perfect!
Picking up where we left off after The Wren, Mauve finds herself in a very precarious situation as she works on her escape plan. What she doesn't expect is to come face to face with the three Santorini men who changed her world over the past several months without even knowing it. Now they are determined to flee their situation and try to figure out what is going on between all of them. And I have to say I thought that they would share much better than they did. It felt like three separate relationships on a rotation rather than one cohesive unit and team. I was so hoping for some group scenes too in there. Tommy and Romeo were quick to acknowledge, accept and act on their feelings for Mauve but Nico was the hard headed one of the bunch and resisted the most. When he did fall, he fell fast and hard for our girl. I hope Mauve and her guys show up in future series just like we saw Rossi and Rush pop up in this duet!
This is book 2 of the The King Sisters(Las Vegas) Duet and CANNOT be read as a standalone.
Book 2 picks up right where we got left at the end of The Wren. Maeve did what she felt was best to get out of the second marriage contract, and the guys are just following orders, but the blow back is more then she bargained for.
There is only so much to be said without spoiling the ending of book 1 or what giving away what happens in this dramatic conclusion. We still have secrets being kept and we finally get the epic meeting/realization of all the guys and their individual relationships with Maeve. With assassination hits out on all of them, they must team up and try to come up with a plan to protect each other, after all there’s more then just the four of them to worry about now…
I loved this duet. This is my first look into this mafia world that Black has created and this duet just makes me want to go back and read all the other corresponding series that crossover a little with this one. This duet was suspenseful and unpredictable, laced with some well times humor. Maeve was a very strong FMC and I loved all the guys as well. They all had different traits and quirks they brought into the relationship. I loved the super strong bond all the King girls had and I found myself wanting more from all the other King sisters, so I can only hope there will be more duets added to this series. 👑
“The Wild” is the conclusion in the King Sisters duet. It takes place immediately where “The Wren” ended, so a reread of “The Wren” is highly recommended if you’re just about to start book two!
What I like about Penelope’s writing is that she doesn’t waste time on filler. Unfortunately, this leads to some rushed scenes that could use some more thought and attention. One important scene is the climax of the book. Maeve and the men spend 90% of the book living off the grid, and the climax only takes up 5% of the book. After that, the final 5% is Maeve having the baby.
Like some of Penelope’s other books, the ending felt extremely rushed. A more satisfying ending would have resulted in more execution of the climax and clearer timelines, as the time jumps were extremely confusing. I don’t mind jumps in time, but a header that highlights how many weeks ahead you are would be useful. Not to mention important, as Maeve is pregnant!
Overall, I enjoyed this book but felt disappointed in the harem. As individuals, Maeve and the boys compliment each other nicely. As a harem, however, it felt disjointed. I love reading about harems that naturally grow, but we don’t get that in this book. Each brother seems to have their own, separate relationship with Maeve and there doesn’t seem to be any collective connection. Maybe it’s because they’re related, but I would have enjoyed seeing a more collective front.
The Wild picks up right where The Wren drops off. Maeve has left the church with a whole head of questions and uncertainty and responsibility growing in her stomach. The dedication had me feeling a little apprehensive since I'm not a surprise pregnancy trope girlie and I was glad that The Wild was more than just her being pregnant.
The main focus in this is Maeve navigating her relationship/s with the Santorini brothers whilst they all try to manage a threat to them all. The spice wasn't in abundance but what we do get was hot. In The Wren, Tommy was my fave but after The Wild, Nico has taken the top spot. The scene in the kitchen had me panting! I loved each of their possessiveness but their love for her, their care for her happiness and for each other ultimately means she doesn't have to choose because why choose when you can have them all?!
I enjoyed getting everyone's POVs in this story, it's essential to the storyline. I also loved seeing Kiera step up in Maeve's place so maybe this is a hint of her story being told next? Something I enjoyed less was the big jumps in time between chapters. It takes a hot sec to wrap your head around how quickly they all seem to fall in love when we jump weeks and sometimes months. I also felt it a little rushed in places, mostly towards the end. The scene at the club with Vito especially, I felt it should have been longer with more build up to add tension. By the time your heart reaches your throat with threat, it's all over very quickly. Much like with Tommy's situation. That was a little glossed over.
Overall, it was a good, easy read with some great spice swirled through. I didn't like the over-describing in The Wren so was glad to see that wasn't an issue within The Wild. I'm excited to see where the King sisters go from here.
Maeve is the perfect introduction to the King Sisters. She shows how fierce, loyal, determined and total bad@$$ they are! We pick right up where we left off in The Wren, getting out answers to that shocking cliffhanger (in multiple ways). Because of the circumstances we were left on and the circles Maeve and the Santorini brothers run in, they are forced to go into hiding together. And man oh man do we love some why choose forced proximity! The way the brothers (Nico, Tommy & Romeo) have their own individual connection and protectiveness over her will make you completely swoon. We still get sprinkles of Maeve’s sisters because the Kings are nothing without each other. They come in at the most crucial of times. Yet another perfect why choose romance from Penelope Black. Keeping us connected to past characters we love and bringing about new possibilities to come as well. This duet is complete and can be read as a standalone but I promise if you start here you’re going to want to go back to The Brotherhood and The Five Families too.
Wow, I simply phased out while reading this book. Time, what is that?? I have no idea what went on around me while reading this book.
So definitely read The Wren before reading The Wild. It is needed as well as this is book two and we have come to the conclusion of Maeve's story.
The ride though, it was wild. I was rooting for her since I first met her. I mean come on she survives a blast and comes face to face with her enemy. You can't get any cooler than that, oh wait, yes she can.
Yes I have a girl crush on her. A lot happens, I will not give anything away. Just know that by the end, yes you will be on the same boat as me, girl crush. Her guys, are perfect for her. They fit together so well.
Overall a well written Duet by one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this series.
I had a blast with this one. Maeve might be my favorite FMC from Pen’s books as of now. She’s smart, confident, and just such a baddie. I am a sucker for close proximity and this book delivered that trope to me on a platter. Nico, Tommy, and Romeo were great. I did end the book having a solid order of faves but all the guys were great. I won’t lie y’all…I wasn’t sure for a minute there that this book wouldn’t end on a cliffy even though I know it’s completed. I am so excited for any future books in the King Sisters series (I have it on good authority that those stories will come eventually) because all the sisters seem amazing. Outside of that, I can’t believe that I’ve now read all of Pen’s backlist so thank goodness I know she has a new book coming out in April!
The Wild is the second half of the Las Vegas Love duet and I was lucky enough to get an arc copy from Pen.
It’s not as spicy as some of her other books but the plot was good and I loved the character development of Nico. I didn’t expect the major plot twist so that was nice and unexpected but the book felt a bit rushed?
I got a bit confused when the chapters jumped a few weeks/ months ahead at times but rolled with it.
Definitely a super easy read, I read the whole thing in a sitting as it kept me interested. My favourite in the harem is definitely still Romeo.
Can’t wait to see what you write next Pen

The Wild is the second part of the Las Vegas Love Book duet by Penelope Black and it picks up right where The Wren, the first book, left off. To be honest, I loved The Wren but I think The Wild could have been more straight forward. I am not a fan of time jumps and I find them a bit tiring. Nevertheless, the storyline was very intriguing from the start and kept me on my toes right till the end. Also, their harem was one I would love to read more about. Much, much and much more about… Maybe a spicy holiday novella with Nico, Romeo and Tommy. Just saying…
Penelope Black has done it again!!! Drive back into the world of Maeve King and her gorgeous men. Maeve come face to face with all three of her men, realizing who they actually are. After a hit is put out on Maeve, Nico, Romeo, and Tommaso they leave the world behind to hide out on Nico's private island. Maeve falls more for her men and they fall for her, and her growing baby. Who doesn't love a surprise pregnancy troupe?? Can't wait to see what world Penelope takes us to next!!

I always knew there would be a few more wild turns to get to their happily ever after. Plus all of the guys coming to turns with the new shock to hit their family. I wish we had gotten a little bit more of their time together as couples but their journey was still an interesting one! I really really hope we get the rest of the sister’s books because these women are badass!
So the only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars is because 1st I’m not a huge fan of time jumps & there are quite a few of them & 2nd I really wanted more sexy time scenes!
I absolutely loved the first book, but I was a little disappointed in this one to be honest. It started off somewhat steady and then once they were on the island, it started going super fast and kept time jumping. I really wish we had more time with Maeve and the guys as their relationship develops instead of them automatically being together. I had high hopes for The Wild, but unfortunately it didn't pan out. I feel like the book could've been longer to give us more time with them and the action at the end could've been longer as well instead of over so soon.
Maeve is on the run and finds herself hiding out with Nico, Tommy, and Romeo Santorini. The attraction is intense between Maeve and the three men. They all need to stay under the radar until they figure out a plan. Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book. I love the dynamic between Maeve the three Santorini brother. The supporting characters are amazing. I love the action, mystery, and spice
I absolutely loved this book! After that cliffhanger in The Wren, I was impatiently waiting to see what came next. I was not disappointed! There were so many twists I didn’t see coming. I think this book perfectly wrapped up Maeve’s story. And the spice was so good!
The Wild is the follow up/conclusion book to The Wren. It continues the story of Maeve and her men, the Santorini brothers.
All in all is was an okay book. Just okay. However there were a few problems with it. 1) It was way too RUSHED! There was a whole lot packed into a “short amount” of time. Too many factors to “deal” with, like, Maeve’s pregnancy (which seemed to be announced and then concluded in twenty pages) and the mob war between Nico’s family and Vito. 2) The brothers characters weren’t fleshed out enough. I had high hopes for The Wild since the brothers were introduced so surface level only in The Wren. I’d hoped to see Nico, Romeo and Tommy’s characters “deepen” and grow more complex and three dimensional. Unfortunately, with how the plot played out, I felt as if I didn’t really get “to know” the brothers as well as I wanted to. I especially wished we, as readers, would’ve been given more time with Nico. I enjoyed his character the most, not only because he was “the head,” of the family, but because his “alpha energy” was established early on in the series, making him more “dynamic” than his brothers. The Wild had him “hating” Maeve for most of the book, so when he did admit his feeling for her, it felt “too late,” - the book was almost over. And, 3) Maeve doesn’t develop. Her character doesn’t “grow” in The Wild. She’s interesting in The Wren, a mob bosses eldest daughter who is a “vigilante” on the side. The story arc (predictable) but entertaining; how she “meets” all three brothers unexpectedly and falls for them, while trying to maneuver herself and her sisters through the “underworld.” But just when we’re beginning to get to know her better…and really become invested in her “story” (her attempt to overthrow her dad, and save her sisters) she’s pregnant, has her wedding bombed, is swept off to an island, has to “rescue” one of her babies daddy’s, and delivers said babies, and lives HEA. This (all these events) all occur way too quickly, and none of the details are “explained” or explored, at all. It’s like we’re given a shopping list of events that are ticked off, and once one thing is “finished,” the next thing (event) starts, only to finish just as quickly as the prior one.
Honestly, if not for the fact that I enjoyed The Wren, I’d have probably given this book 2 stars. I just felt as if the author did these great characters a disservice in The Wild by not truly developing them to their true potential.
This is the follow-up to The Wren released a couple of months prior. The Wren left us hanging on quite an ending so to say I was itching to get this book in my hands is an understatement. I love Maeve and her sisters to pieces and we get so much of their dynamics in the first book. But this book for me focused a lot more on the three brothers. Brothers who up until now have no idea that they have all been swept up in the same woman. A woman who has no idea they are all related to each other. Let me just say the way they all come together in the same room and discover that little secret was just as awkward and tense as I'd hoped it would be haha! With a new threat looming over the four of them they are forced to rely on each other for protection until they can find a way to eliminate the danger waiting for them. During this time they get to know each other better and that is by far my favorite part of the book! In the first book, Romeo is the one who stood out amongst the brothers the most for me. I can't put my finger on why exactly, but he was the most memorable. Tommy and Nico had their moments but they are not who I thought about first when looking back on the book. However, in this one, they take the opportunity to be front and center. Tommy is an entirely different person than I thought he was (you'll understand why once you read it lol) and on a small level so was Nico. So getting to see this side of Tommy had me friggin melting into a puddle! Romeo is as charming as ever of course. No surprise there with a name like that right? Then we have Nico... he's got a harder shell to get through but once he cracks he full-on snaps and well get ready to be devoured! The last half of the book moves a lot faster than the first half in my opinion so prepare yourself for that. I would have loved to see the last half drawn out more and maybe not resolve itself so quickly or easily but I still loved it. The sisters are all so epically awesome and the guys are hot as AF. I heard there is supposed to be a novella coming out before the next book in the series so if that's true then I cannot wait to read it and get more of these characters!
3.75stars—THE WILD is the second instalment in Penelope Black’s contemporary, adult KING SISTERS/ LAS VEGAS LOVE reverse harem, erotic, romance duet focusing on Irish Syndicate princess Maeve ‘The Wren’ King, and the men whom she loves Romeo, Tommaso and Nico Santorini. THE WILD and The King Sisters is a spin off from, and interconnected to the author’s THE BROTHERHOOD series. Several characters cross-over in the duet for cohesion and familiarity.
Told from four first person perspectives (Maeve, Romeo, Tommaso, Nico) THE WILD picks up immediately after the cliff hanger of book one (The Wren) in which Maeve’s father has sold our heroine to the highest bidder in an effort to strengthen his hold in the criminal underworld but all does not go according to plan when a bomb disrupts the arranged wedding, and Maeve finds herself on the run with the Santorini brothers. A contract and bounty has been placed on each of their heads, and our foursome must go into hiding to protect a small cargo they knew nothing about. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Maeve and the Santorini brothers, and the potential fall-out as their whereabouts are discovered, and their lives threatened in the process.
The relationship between Maeve and the Santorini brothers is predicated up forced proximity, attraction, love and obsession. Maeve has fallen in love with all three brothers, and the brothers are willing to share the love of the woman that calls to their hearts. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.
THE WILD is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, love and family. The fast paced premise is entertaining and engaging but focuses mostly on the growing relationship between Maeve and the brothers, an unequal relationship in which we learn little information individually about the Santorini brothers-I wish there was more character development as it concerns Tommaso, Romeo and especially Nico). The romance is erotic; the characters are energetic and powerful. I am hoping the author has future plans for Maeve’s sisters.
First book The Wren left us with a cliffhanger. This one answered some questions and alluded to others. I was happy with how everyone got reunited I thought it was kind of funny the circumstances they were in that room.
It was sad that Maeve is going through a life altering event and the most important people to her are not able to be there. I really missed her interactions with her sisters. I had a few unanswered questions though. What about her dad? What did her dad think of the wedding? Repercussions? What about her sisters and what do they think of her current situation? Still so many questions. I am hoping there will be more books on her sisters so we can learn even more and get a more complete picture. The King sisters are absolutely wonderful and terrifying at the same time. I would gladly have them cover my back if I need help hiding a body or two. I was hoping for some more action in this one with the fighting with the different fractions and some of the smexy kind. There was still some hot smexiness but I feel the first book had more.
The Brothers. These three are incredibly loyal to each other. But when it comes to Maeve they did not really fight over her they each fought for her. Some were ok with the status quo some needed to fight their own demons before taking that step. They love each other fiercely and her just as much. Each of them are Intune with each other to determine what each one needs. Each one loves a hobby or something that Maeve equally enjoys. She is able to share something special with each of them without leaving anyone feeling left out or hurt.
This book was enjoyable and I was not ready for it to end. I really am hoping there is more to the series since she has several sisters that could end up on the marriage block thanks to the elder King.
I am absolutely thrilled that the first sister to have a duet from the King sisters is Maeve. Reading other books of Penelope's I always adored the King sisters and how totally bada** they were, so bringing them to life in their own series is the best thing ever. Maeve is the perfect way to dip your toes into the sisters and slowly learn about them, especially since she's the one most mentioned in her other books. The Wild picks up where The Wren ended, and we get our answers from the cliffhanger that the last book left us with. Having her hide with her men allows for them to be confined together, and honestly that's some of my favorite book tropes is when they are forced to be close in proximity which makes all the feels and tension come out. In true Penelope fashion the brothers are quite protective over Maeve and this of course is a heart stealer in my opinion for any book. Of course the other sisters make appearances because it's important to get to know them as their stories will soon unfold as well and they are also really good at watching each other's backs and keeping each other together. Why choose romances will forever be some of my favorite reads and this author is most definitely a reason why. I also love stories in which you get pop ins from past characters to keep the worlds connected to one another, it allows for a more in depth read. This is for sure a standalone story, but once you get sneak peaks of the other characters you're most definitely going to want to go and read about all of them. This duet was an easy read and while the first book ends in a cliffy, it's worth it to push through and read the second book to get a wonderful ending. Thanks for never disappointing Penelope!
The second half of this duet is fast paced and it delves deeper into the relationships between Maeve and the Santorini brothers.
The secret is out, well, I guess it wasn't really a secret, Maeve just wasn't aware that all three men circling her life were actually related and neither were the brothers aware that the woman who'd bewitched them was one and the same. Plot twist!
As the opening of The Wild begins we pick up from the wedding where Maeve was sent to marry another man that was not any of the Santorini brothers, but they also happened to be sent to that very same wedding, but for very different reasons. What better way than to take out an opposing mafia family than at a family gathering, but things go a bit sideways for all of them. From this point on the lives of Maeve and the Santorini brothers turn upside down and the ability to choose between Romeo, Nico or Tommy is impossible especially when she can't pinpoint which brother is the father of her baby. Go Maeve - why choose, take them all!
This entire duet is a pretty quick read, but it may have just felt like that because I couldn't put it down for moment. I will note - I did feel like the ending of this particular book felt just a tad rushed, which is why I rated this a 4.5 stars overall, but I really did love the entire duet overall, especially the King sisters. They are #amazinggirlpower, tough, and never backed down from a challenge.
