Life Skills for Kids covers a lot of topics With our current fast paced, technological society, it is more important than ever to make sure our children learn the basic life skills that are often neglected in our convenience driven era. A good idea that needs editing, “Life Skills for Kids”, by Karen Harris, is written for 8-12 year olds and the graphics look like they are targeted for the younger ended of the range. They are cute enough but sadly, there is no, (or maybe 1?), representation of multi racial or differently abled kids to be found. The vocabulary is geared for older kids. While I applaud the inclusion of definitions for unfamiliar words and concepts, they often include unknown items or those things being defined. Additionally, the grammar is really rough and in the 2nd sentences of the book’s first paragraph in chapter 1, there is an error, (“Here’s are an example.” - text and punctuation), that should be corrected ASAP, at least in the Kindle copy I reviewed.
If the publisher takes the step to edit this volume, it would be a great service for the Table of Contents to be interactive with the book for the purpose of easily accessing specific topics. This book doesn’t have to be read in page order to be effective.
Topics include: personal & interpersonal skills, family, school and work life skills, time management, finances and more. Well organized information in short chapters that won’t overwhelm with regular reminders to seek input from adults; kudos to the author for that📚
Great introduction to some basic life skills we often forget to teach. I made some additional notes in my son's copy to clarify some points for him and to remind that he can come talk to me at any time.
The book includes practical skills and common wisdom - turn pot handles away from you when cooking to avoid accidents and soft skills - banishing negative self talk, bullies, coping with failure, saving money, etc.
This is a great introductory reference book for kids curious or anxious about growing into adults. Exactly the right book to start this kind of learning with my 9 year old.
This is a book review from my 7-year-old daughter. She likes to call the book - Holey Moley Life Skills!
Life skills for kids is helpful and fun to read! I learned so much from it! It filled me with knowledge that could help my future to become safer and happier. I would give this wonderful book five stars and recommend it to anyone who feels ready for it.
This book will teach you how to manage your money, understand yourself, embrace failure, stand up to bullying, use kitchen tools, make good decisions, dress for weather, make friends, sent goals, and handle emergency. It will also teach you the benefits of chores, the pathway to success, and much more. If you want to learn how to do those, then maybe you should read the book.
This book inspired me to ask my mom and dad for me to do chores, because the book convinced me that I can learn so much from those chores. It also inspired me to focus on my work, to take failure as a good thing, help my friends stop bullying, and much more.
This book is a great way to teach your child/children how to do things, I highly encourage people read this book. As a mother of two, I can definitely see how this will help kids learn basic skills.
Children need to learn how to take care of themselves and handle emergencies. There is more to learn in childhood than what they teach in school. The book covered a variety of topics and a worthwhile quick read.
Interesting accumulation of chapters of what teens need. Birth control was not mentioned but changing a tire was. Frankly I use AAA for threes. How to wash dishes, etc.
