There he encounters a strange group of forest dwellers who appear to have attained a form of immortality that preserves the body but not the mind. Perina uncovers their secret and returns with it to America, where he soon finds great success. To Paradise [Hardcover]:To Paradise is a fin de siècle novel of marvelous literary effect, but above all it is a work of emotional genius. The great power of this remarkable novel is driven by Yanagihara’s understanding of the aching desire to protect those we love—partners, lovers, children, friends, family, and even our fellow citizens—and the pain that ensues when we cannot.
The author drew me in to her characters. I felt I knew them. Incredibly knowledgeable writer, inquisitive and compassionate. For me, a daytime book. I need to take care of Jude, his friends love him but he is unable to fully believe it. I bought the book but it proved difficult to read with such small print and compacted, brick-like shape, it was physically uncomfortable. I bought kindle format for a more comfortable read and am about 1\4 way through. I am familiar with the feelings described by the author, she has clear perception. Physical description, places, flat, houses are equally powerful, sight, sound, smell, touch.
My rating has 4 stars, I haven't finished reading yet.
