Chancing Evils

Rate this book
Chance Roberts, teacher, is devoted to his students. One day he wakes up in a real life horror movie. There is a growing threat of an unseen virus that has killed thousands and shutdown the country. The unknown virus has forced Chance and others to recalibrate the idea of work and survival. Roberts is unprepared for this new normal. Faced with the threat of death by the unknown virus and the need to mask up and dealing with the old horrors of racial discrimination and police brutality he must maneuver through a world that seems hellbent on killing him. Chance, ever wary and ultra alert, seems perched on the razor's edge of frustration and paranoia with the lack of transparency about what really is going on. Add to this the pull on Chance to stand up and be a part of a national protest against the injustices he and others face daily as a Black man virus or not. Just your typical week as an underpaid teacher in the nation.

Born. Living. Learning. Writing. Southern memories, raised in Chicago and there I began writing. I moved west and was educated at the University of California, at Berkeley. Played collegiate football and rugby. First fell in love with comics. Have always read. Always writing. Became an English major. Took that major to Los Angeles and began teaching. Taught English to middle school and high school and junior college. Was a debate and chess coach. Continue to challenge myself.
Love Shakespeare. Wish to further the amazing writing experiences of those that I have read and read through an African American male lens. My desire is to write with passion and desire a varied style of genres with the hopes of being one of the heralded African American authors that others read and enjoy.

Black Lives Do Matter

I appreciate seeing life from the perspective give of a black teacher living through the pandemic during the Black Lives Matter movement. I understand it’s terrifying to be a black person who is constantly worried about being harassed by police every single day. It is not how someone should have to live. This book explains how it feels.

At the beginning of the Pandemic, everyone was paranoid about contracting the disease and with good reason. Before vaccinations, it could be fatal. The description was accurate. Wearing masks, being suspicious of door handles, staying away from others was a daily occurrence.

I’m not sure why this book is described as a zombie book. The author likens COVID-19 to a zombie attack. There were no zombies in this book. Just realistic descriptions of what it was like to live through a pandemic.

This book needs a good edit. There was too much repetition and an editor would help clean it up. I did appreciate the story and the lessons learned.

"Mark T. Sneed compares the pandemic to a different kind of outbreak in "This Zombie Apocalypse is Nothing Like I Expected," a story rich with metaphors and masterful wordplay." --Book Life Review

Really enjoyed reading about this post-apocalyptic tale. It is always interesting to think of things in a different perspective and see things through a different point of view.
