Hayleigh married New York royalty, Saxon Van der Meer over a decade ago after a whirlwind romance and passionate love affair. To the world, she has it all, the perfect husband, the stylish penthouse and a social status amongst the Manhattan elite. But when Hayleigh discovers issues in her marriage, she escapes back home to the English countryside to rediscover the girl she was before she left. Reconnecting with old friends and her family makes her old life a tempting option to return to but the pull of Saxon and his American heart-throb charm could be too hard to resist. Hayleigh has choices to make and change is inevitable but will her future be in England or New York?
I don't know where I expected this to go but I wasn't entirely disappointed. The writing was a little passive, more telling than showing, and lagged in some areas while rushing in others. I don't think the snippets of their past added or detracted from the story. I do feel like Saxon manipulated Hayleigh into marriage and in general. I felt like they baby-talked to the kids a bit too much, but that's a personal thing of mine and not a reflection of the writing. I was drawn in faster than I thought and became quickly invested in their story.
This story is just the sweetest! My first book by HR Lloyd and I really enjoyed it. Its written in such a way that you can easily picture everything as you read the story. I especially loved the flashback chapters of how Hayleigh and Saxon’s relationship developed.
After the first couple of chapters I was hooked in and didn’t want to put it down. To see how Hayleigh was struggling to find her own path and the realisation she came too made the ending a pretty perfect conclusion to a really lovely tale. Definitely recommend!!
A brilliant debut novel that is beautifully written with wonderful characters. A book about marriage, passion, miscommunication, insecurities, drama, sadness, joy and all the emotions you would want from such a genre as this contemporary romance fiction. A nice touch is the feature of the 'past years' chapters which gives insight to the couples back story. It also has a great feel good ending that anyone would appreciate. For anyone who loves the idea of romance and all that can comes with it.
I follow the author on tiktok, and I was excited to read her first novel. Hayliegh's character arch was brilliant. Saxon stepped up in the end. The boys, Gee, and Ray were hilarious.
What a joy this was to read. The emotional journey for both the main characters. The past and present switching was chef’s kiss and made for a very rounded story. The love and grovelling from Saxon (hope I’m not spoiling anything here) was perfection. Brilliant
I enjoyed the story very much. I tended to skim through the parts that take place in the past as I was most interested in the present. I absolutely loved the clearing up of misunderstandings and the open communication that resulted in the end. Lovely satisfying ending.
I loved this first novel by H. R. Lloyd. It captured my attention from the start and kept me reading to the satisfying end. Love the steamy bits and drama of a married couple. The epilogue tied up all the loose ends but depending on what you expect from a lead female character, it will either be romantically satisfying or leaving you wanting more. Can’t wait for Lloyd’s next book.
Beautifully written. Beautiful story .All your emotions will be affected I cried I laughed and I fell in love with the characters. Can’t wait for the next book👏👏
Hayleigh and Saxon meet and fall in love, rushing a marriage to avoid a long distance relationship but 10 years down the line the perfect life starts to crack.
This book is fabulous! It’s a very natural portrayal of a relationship that burned hot and fast and how that turns into real life ten years later. Hayleigh is a plus size woman, relatable and without all the exhausted plus size romance tropes. She has insecurities but that’s not the focus of the narrative in any way. The storytelling was superb going from present day to memories of their courtship in such a natural way that pulled you into both storylines perfectly. It was also a great way of showing two sides of the story without switching narrators helping her have some self realizations in a natural but plot propelling way. The whole book was engaging and hard to put down. Another round of editing for typos and it would be perfect! Can’t wait to read more from this author!
