Warden
As a Warden, Dovne feared nothing except the anniversary of her sister’s death.
At the same time each year, she could count on one her father - the Arch-Warden Alveric - would be distant. However, this year his spirits are undampened, and that alone is enough to put Dovne on edge.
She’s sent away on a mission to investigate the mysterious deaths of a distant village’s livestock with her friend Baiel and two others whom she has never met. Though a trained slayer of monsters with lethal skills and steel resolve, she becomes truly unnerved when she discovers that her new companions are indebted to her father for their own reasons.
Upon arriving at the village of Mossview, the Wardens find that no one has summoned them. Their presence is unwanted, but duty urges them to piece together the mystery of what’s been killing the livestock - though the source may surpass their capabilities. All the while, thoughts of Alveric persist in Dovne’s mind.
With something sinister approaching, the Wardens race to complete their contract and return home before a nefarious plot unfolds, and Dovne loses her father forever…

This was an enjoyable, quick read. I read the paperback.

Dovne (pronounced as Dove) and Baiel are the MC's of this book, they are good friends and I like their vibe. I liked the plot where they go out to the village of Mossview to serve a contract, and run into all kinds of trouble. This part of the book I loved the most. Because it was fresh, exiting and the characters friendship could be felt.
Once in Mossview, the villain was obvious to me from the moment they found the first victim, and somehow this part of the book missed the tightknit, exiting feel of the first part. Perhaps it was also due to the mystery surrounding Dovne's father, this was too shallow, with hardly any explanation and could have done with more story.
I love the cover, it made me buy the book in the first place.
