Strength and talent made you look for your own way in life, one that often led you off the beaten path. You hoped to outsmart everyone and go where others had disappeared without a trace. But you forgot that your weakness had led you to trouble once already. You forgot that plans had been disrupted before. And now you are trapped. And this time, you are not alone. You have doomed all those who trusted you. But the people who put the chain on you forgot that everyone would eventually pay for their mistakes. The people who put the chain on you do not know that there are things that you do not forgive. You can deceive others, you already know this, but can you deceive yourself? Can you break the chain, which does not yield even to the power of the mighty Heavens? Remember: there are no hopeless situations so long as you are ready to pay the price. The others are ready to pay it. Are you?
3 stars because I like the series, but this was garbage, better off just skipping it entirely. Here's the whole book, the mc for unexplainable reasons cripples himself and sells himself into slavery then spends the whole book whining and complaining about all the terrible things happening to him, finally at about the 90% Mark he frees himself and starts acting like in all the previous books, then it's over. Seriously it's not worth reading except about the last 10/15%, the series as a whole is better off without this whole installment even being included.
I love this series, up till this book the series has been getting better and better. Why did the author feel the need to write a book where all of the hard earned achievements that the character had made throughout the entire series are taken away and are only returned after you’ve invested into 86% of the book. I’m not exaggerating, I was frustrated reading this book all the way until 86% of the way through it. The is hardly an character growth. Most of the book the mc is making plans to finally gain his powers back and then something comes up to prevent him and the rest is his internal dialogue and plan making and his thoughts about ascension only for the author to say “ haha just kidding, forget what I just wrote, that has nothing to do with anything”. It got old, the delaying and more delaying that just kept coming. This book felt like a whole lot of fluff compared to the rest of the series. THEN, when he does FINALLY get his powers back, a good portion of the remaining book is written from other’s perspective and has nothing to do with Legard. It was frustrating how every bad character turned out to not be the true villain, and it pissed me off how when you did finally get some gratification from the story it wasn’t even presented in a very climatic or gratifying way, almost like it was mentioned in passing, your left asking was that it?! Did that just happen? I will read the next book, but if the next book is similar I will know that the series has run it’s course.
Lost 2 stars for NOT writing a Recap. I think every reader needs to start doing this to force writers to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.
