THE HELLCREEPS is a pretty fun time and has some adventure B-horror comedy vibes all at play. As the cover would suggest, there are also Elvira (but NOT Elvira) elements mixed in to this story... but if you are a fan of Elvira Mistress of the Dark then this is definitely going to be something you need to check out. Slime and undead creatures give it a zombie approach at times, too. But even with all of these homages and connections, THE HELLCREEPS easily stands on its own and is a tight, fast-paced read. There's a fiery horror hostess, friends/brothers, a magical necklace, and plenty of hijinks to keep you invested from beginning to end!
That was pretty fun. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but it drew me in early and ends before running out its welcome. It still felt like maybe something was missing though. That said, it's a quick novella that packs a lot of fun with elements such as slime monsters, a horror hostess who totally isn't Elvira, and two friends being hunted by an undead being called the Festering Man. I will be on the lookout for more of Cameron Kane's work.
The Hellcreeps is a fun nostalgic novel mainly aimed at a young adult audience and reads like a Full Moon script with an abundance of green slime, fake blood and latex boglins; ideal to pick up during the Halloween season (Throughout the book I had a constant vibe from the tv-movie 'The Witching Hour' from 1985: to my very pleasant surprise the author casually mentioned the film towards the end of the book)
This is a fun quick read for 80s babies! A fun story with a few typos towards the end. If you stayed watching a certain horror host you'll probably get a kick out of it!
