Spooky Boys #1

Bite Me! - You Know I Like It

Rate this book
The spooky boys series invites you to visit a world where things that go bump in the night aren’t just fantasy. These standalone novels feature monsters that are spicy, fun, and sometimes furry.

Blair
I'd been waiting my whole life to run. When I uncovered hidden papers detailing my inheritance, I knew my time had come. I packed my trunk full of plant babies, black nail polish, and determination. With my demons in the rearview mirror and my trauma for company I made my way to Elmwood. The remote Maine mountain town is home to my future, a potential love interest, and a lot of really weird, possibly deadly secrets.

Richard
Until recently, the most interesting thing in my life had been solving a particularly difficult Sunday crossword. Even my vampiric transformation hadn't disrupted my life much— it was still boring and repetitive, albeit with more blood than I'd previously dealt with. When newcomer Blair —a charming five foot vegan ball of rage— blows into town, it's all I can do not to follow him like a love-sick puppy…He’s everything I’ve been missing, but there's a catch: I need to spy on him and convince the Council he’s innocent of his mother’s crimes. Here's hoping I don't end up with a corpse instead of a boyfriend.

Follow Blair, a boy who loves the fanged and furry, as he discovers the secrets of the night and also how to be loved by his very own vampire.

Bite Me! Is a standalone slow burn paranormal MM romance with high heat, an HEA, and no cliffhangers. It features a relationship between two adorably prickly men that have everything against them, until they don’t. Together they’re giggly, young, and tooth-achingly sweet. If you like spooky stories with mystery, suspense, hilarious miscommunication, and characters that make you laugh, read on!

I decided not to rate this book because of my mixed feelings and I skimmed a lot.

The things I liked in this book:
- vampire book (what's not to like about blood-sucking handsome vampire!?)
- the story as a whole was very intriguing
- the poetic way in which a lot of the things were written (I enjoyed this a lot, even though at one point it become too much)
- Blair (I loved him, EVERYTHING about him)
- the kitty
- how gentle Richard was with Blair their first time
- first time for both MC
- the plot twist at the end of the book
- the idea I have who the next couple in the series will be about

The things I didn't like:
- it dragged a lot, I skimmed a big part of this book and there was too much description for me
- the ending of the book. It's what bothered me the most. It was too abrupt, some plotlines weren't resolved, and it felt like an unfinished book. The epilogue was even more confusing. If the next book will be about Jeffrey and I won't say who, why not make it from his point of view? The whole epilogue didn't have any sense. It didn't show the main couple happy, it was just a hint of something that I can only guess but it was meaningless to me.
- a lot of the plots that were the most interesting, heartbreaking, and deserved attention weren't addressed in depth. They were talked about for a second and forgotten the next. (what I mean here is when it came time for Richard and Blair to face these things together) Otherwise, these things were very well developed but I needed more of them together. Ex: I needed more of how Richard felt. Stronger reaction when Richard learned about Blair's past, more support, etc.
- most of the chapters were from Blair's point of view, I needed more of Richard. I never got a feeling of him, he was just... just a character, not the main one for me. His character wasn't well developed for me.

This book had a lot of potentials. What bugged me the most was how the plotlines were not resolved and how many things weren't addressed in depth. I liked the writing and I will continue reading this series. I'm actually looking forward to the next book if it's the two men who I think it will be about. And I can't wait! Even though I didn't like many things, I still couldn't put the book down and wanted to see how it would end.

2★'s = it was ok.

What? This was ten million pages of all over the place and so much didn’t make any sense. I’m so irritated about the end of this book I can’t even. I’m probably a little too angry to write this review but I kind of want to move on because the longer I dwell the more irritated I get.

Really. This left a lot of confusion and I read all the pages.

It’s a shame because the idea of the story and some of the actual story kept me interested and entertained but there was just so much other, well, it just wasn’t enough for me to be happy about the read.

Add to that the fact the author is calling this a standalone and I’m just calling defeat. There is no way this can be a standalone. There are still so many unanswered questions and if you even tried to start with the next book, well, how would you know anything? Oh, and then there is that teeny tiny (HUGE) issue of the first page of the 2nd book being from Blair’s POV and starts RIGHT WHERE THIS ONE STOPPED. Standalone, psshh.

Anyway. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I started this right after finishing what I thought was a prequel to this one. It’s a #0.5 so I of course assumed. First off, that felt like it was written by someone totally different and I don’t have any idea how they are connected?? Please someone enlighten me. I totally must have missed something. Is it the same town or something? I’m just more confused when I try to think about the #0.5.

The explanation about the town was like 3 sentences and just not enough and it came way, way, way too late.

I do not understand, at all, the relationship between Blair and his “brother” Jeffrey. From the bits and pieces scattered throughout the story, and I mean bits and pieces. For such a HUGE PART OF THE FUCKING STORY WE TRULY WERE LEFT IN THE DARK, Jeffrey wasn’t always nice. Also, if what the Aunt said at the end is true, none of their history makes any sense. NONE OF IT. I’m actually pretty pissed about this part of the story and don’t know if I even want more Jeffrey. I mean, if he was in the “know” and was also being abused, why didn’t he say something? Why didn’t he leave?

How come Blair doesn’t understand how the world works? He went to school. When he found out he inherited a home why wouldn’t he contact an attorney? He didn’t seem to understand how anything in real life worked. He had legal documents. He decides to go to a Realtor, who treated him like trash and told him about his Dad in such a horrible way, who pretty much tells him he can’t sell his house and he just accepts it. Then, well, what happens with the house he STILL doesn’t contact anyone. Insurance anyone? It made no sense.

Dead end after dead end after dead end.

I don’t know. I feel like the book wanted to be all kinds of things all at once so the author threw everything in and just kept adding pages.

And yeah. Those pages. There were at least 300+ too many. Seriously. Thoughts and thoughts and thoughts of nothing happening. So much extra content that did not propel the story forward at all. There were pages and pages of nothing and when there needed to be a conversation or realization or answers these were just a few words or put on the back burner to never be heard of again.

I also kept getting this Wolfsong vibe in some of the way the story was written and the smells etc. I didn’t like it.

This wasn’t bad in the way that I wanted to DNF it. It’s hard to explain really, but you know when a book is like that and you regret at the end you didn’t just throw in the towel. I wanted to finish this. I wanted to see if I was right about everything (I was) and I hoped that it would finally answer some questions (It didn’t). I wanted the parts of it I really liked to overtake the parts I didn’t (they didn’t). It just didn’t work out like that. Had it, I could have forgiven a lot.

Based on reviews, I am alone on this island, and I’m mostly sad about it. This book is right up my alley in content. I love the spooky. I love small towns and I love, love, love small towns that are havens to the paranormal. It had touches of everything I should have loved but instead I am very disappointed and more than a little angry. I’m glad everyone else is loving it though. I definitely tried.

I know this review is shit. I mean, everything I want to bitch about is a spoiler so I have to be super vague. I feel bad. I don’t want to be a bitch about this but I can’t really sugar coat it either.

I’ll end with this. Who swims in the fucking ocean in MAINE in April in the dark? NO ONE!

Goodreads has shelved the prequel to this book, There's A Monster In The Woods, as NOT A BOOK due to it being free through a subscription service.

Ok. It's not my favorite thing but I am happy that these books aren't being deleted like the were in the past. The problem though, once they are shelved like this you can't rate or review. You can shelve and mark read or whatever but, no words or rating. So, I'm reviewing that here.

EDIT: Someone has added the book to Goodreads with the author name. They have also removed this edition from the series. I'm not going to change it back or add my review to the newly added edition because I feel it won't be there for long. Obviously they didn't read why the book was the way it was. I hope no one loses their reviews.

There's A Monster In The Woods (Spooky Boys #0.5) by Fae Quin

Alright.

I liked it.

I really enjoyed the writing. It was vivid and flowed wonderfully. It felt fairytale-ish which I really enjoyed. And for such a shorty it felt complete-ish. I would have been happy with one or two more pages but nevertheless, it still ended happily.

It definitely has me intrigued about the 500+ page follow up.

Thank you to Goodreads for allowing the freebies to remain instead of just deleting them. I'll still argue that THIS IS A BOOK.

Top tier vampire mm romance from debut author - don’t be scared away by the length, it goes quickly and I hate using such an obvious pun but it really is a book you can sink your teeth into. 😬 🫣

Lust at first sight/hate at first sight
Small town where something is not quite right - atmospheric
Slooooow burn
Playing with the rules of vampire lore
MC a mini Edward Scissorhands w/out the scissor hands
A little mystery/suspense

Heed CWs

I love vampire romance, only place you get spicy little visuals like this:

"I could scent the blood before I saw it, my dick throbbing as I ran my tongue along my fangs, forcing them to retreat back to the hell they'd come from"

DNF @ 5%. (5%?! I feel like I read a million pages, not 27.)

They were both familiar and unfamiliar; a glimpse of a past I didn’t remember. Their spindly branches reached towards the stars, like they thought if they just tried hard enough, long enough, desperately enough—they could cross the distance and finally touch.

Trees. Roadside trees to be exact. But everything is described in this ridiculous emo prose. Little wonder the book is 473947 pages long, when you can’t just call something by what it is, you have to use 52 similes to describe it and express your emotional response to it.

Why say, “he was covered with bruises”, when you could instead say:

They marred his delicate complexion, the broken skin flared through with splashes of olive and grape, spiraling outwards in a cruel caress beneath both his eyes like watercolor painted by the brush of misfortune.

this is way too slow. filled with so many useless things i wanted to cry. it’s almost 600 pages and it should be 300/350. seriously.
the world building is ridiculous, but what’s worse is that i still have questions about it. so many words and none of them explained why the fuck vampires and other shit exist.
i kept reading for the questions i had, but even the “mistery” aspect was super predictable.
the romance was meh. that’s my professional opinion.

2 stars because it had potential, even though it the execution is weak at best.

I was already in love with Fae's writing style, and this book is no exception. It's poetic at times, hilarious at others, and flows so easily you don't really notice what a massive book this is. But it's massive because it's so detailed and sets up this creepy little town called Elmwood and its strange inhabitants perfectly. Then, of course, you have Blair and Richard, who are complete opposites (physically) but deep down are absolutely perfect for each other. It's definitely a slow burn, but when you get to the spice, it's worth it, especially because of the emotions involved.

So if MM vampire PNR is your thing, definitely give this one a go!

If you like slooooooow burns with miscommunication troupe, this is the book for you.  :3

So what did I like about this book... hmm...

-Vampires and fangs ✅️
-Power bottom ✅️
-FURRY FRIENDS!!✅️
-The mystery ✅️

Things I did not like/ thought could be better portrayed:

-The narration, though initially beautiful, started dragging a lot. LIKE A LOT. Some incidents became so lengthy that I started skimming the last half of the book.
- Details were given to some things that weren't nearly as important as the others. Our trauma shapes us and guides a lot of decisions we take in our lives, unfortunately we never really got the entire extent of Blair's  or Richard's trauma.
- Richard, felt like a nice cardboard boyfriend who does things to make you happy but has no personality of his own. It wasn't just the trauma but also his likes, dislikes and growth that was missing in this book.
- The epilogue felt rushed. Like, the whammies kept coming until you were almost reeling under the pressure of the reveal, if you haven't already figured it out yourself :3. And the entire business with the Princes was just... nasty.

Overall, there were a lot of things I disagreed with in this book, the length sans character development being just one of them. But will I continue this series? If the next book is about whom I think it is, then YES!!

Goodness this was a meaty book. The first thing I will say is this is the definition of a slow burn romance.

This is the second book I’ve read by Fae and I have to say, she loves to write in detail. She is incredibly descriptive from character emotion, down to the surroundings, smells and others in and around at that moment.

I’m fascinated with her writing structure in this story, as it felt like it was in 3 parts. The first half was very little dialogue, but very detailed internal dialogue and feelings from Blair’s perspective in particular, so she sets the scene on who he is and what he has come from. Then the middle of the book you get more interactions, a lot more intensity of dialogue with Richard, Chastity and others surrounding Blair, which felt like you were being built up to prepare for the finale.

Then, the final third of the book was just explosion of plot secrets, twists, hot vamp sex and just everything coming together within this torrent of information.

Blair is very complex, he is like a paradox in his quirks, sassy but vulnerable, lonely but distant, confident but awkward. Then there is Richard who stole my heart, I was not expecting this ball of sweetness for a vampire. So darn cute. Together they were awkward, sweet, feisty and complete opposites, but they fit.

I feel like I am coming down from information overload from this as I can’t get over the detail. Also, Fae knows how to write a sex scene and I think with that build up of tension it felt even more intense. You need to write some kinky side novellas babe!

This is a lot of book and a lot of story so block out some time and devour. Look forward to the next story!

The good
+ Richard's social awkwardness
+ Richard's awkward attempts to befriend Blair
+ Blair's relationship with Collin
+ Blair's relationship with Richard's boots. I really thought he was going to romance the boots instead of the vampire for a while
+ Richard's "me-against-the-world-grumpy-puppy-dog-chic thing he had going on"
+ Blair taking Richard's insecurities seriously
+ Richard taking care of Blair
+ Boots the adorable kitten
+ Blair following his heart when it comes to Richard
+ He may act all prickly, but deep down he's a marshmallow
+ Blair standing up for himself
+ Blair's reaction to Richard revealing he's a vampire

The neutral
o I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. My review remains honest and unbiased
o Blair had way more POV chapters than Richard did. I would have preferred a more equal balance, because Richard was my favorite character
o The supposed 'plot twists' were utterly predictable, but it was fun to read so I didn't mind
o I spent a large part of the book wondering why Richard didn't just grab Collin and Blair and leave, but I realized later that's just not a part of his character. He wants to help everyone, even without recognition, and it's a beautiful character quality. I just wish he had chosen differently, but I don't blame him
o Blair's contact with Jeffrey was much too sparse for the deep bond they shared, and he also only called when he needed something, never to just check in with his brother. And when Jeffrey asked him to call, he didn't

The bad
- The book ended a bit too abruptly for my liking. I didn't feel like all the plotlines were resolved. For example, Another plot point that wasn't addressed anymore, was
- Everyone in the town was an asshole to Blair because of something his mother did when Blair was just a child. How could such a large part of the population think having Blair killed as some kind of prevention was a good idea? They're all psychos. Also, nobody apologized to Blair by the end of the book
- A certain sexual dynamic was teased throughout the book, but we never saw it play out

Quotes
x Trees are assholes, I decided, beautiful assholes, but assholes all the same.
x Even his shoes made sexy noises when he moved, heavy and rubber-coated, like I wished his dick would be.
x I wanted to lick his boots, marry them, and run off into the sunset.

I really enjoyed this book. I was intimidated by the length, but I read it without taking breaks to read other books. I loved Richard, because any vampire who uses WikiHow to figure out how to have an emotional conversation is awesome by default. I also really liked how everything between him and Blair played out. They really were amazing together. I think what I missed most was a little more aftermath. But then, I'd read a hundred more pages of Richard and Blair without any plot necessary, so maybe I'm not the best person to say this long-ass book should've been even longer. Totally wish it wasn't a standalone, though. Anyway, would recommend!

This was definitely a strong debut novel by this author.

Was there room for improvement in some areas? Yeah, I'd say so. Which, I think this author did with her Christmas story. But this was still a strong showing overall.

Blair is 23, and ever since he was 8, he's lived with his abusive aunt in a small town in Oregon, all the way across the country from a small town in Maine where he grew up before his parents tragically died.

But after being badly beaten by her, he finally found the courage to leave, to take off and hopefully never look back.

When he gets to the small town, Elmwood, things are strange from the start. Most people aren't out in the daytime, but places are hopping at night. Some people come into the diner where he gets a job but don't any of the food the order. Or some order raw meat and eat it without any utensils, etc etc.

Funnily enough, Blair has always had a fascination with vampires and other supernatural creatures, and isn't too opposed to believing they're real.

And it just so happens, Richard, 25, is one. Has been for the past 6 months. And the minute Richard sees Blair, he's hooked.

Only, Blair meets his younger brother, Collin, first, and because the whole supernatural thing has to be kept secret, Collin speaks in vague terms, and Blair misinterprets what he means when he talks about his family and them not accepting something about him (that he wants to stay human and not take the change in a vampire. As Richard and Collin's whole family took the change and are vampires except Collin.)

But Blair thinks he means they're all homophobic and don't accept that Collin is gay.

So when Blair and Richard first officially meet and Blair finds out who Richard is, he...isn't exactly receptive to him.

Miscommunication abounds as Richard has no idea why Blair seems to hate him and Blair doesn't want anything to do with the brother he thinks is homophobic and treats Collin, a sweet teenage kid, like crap.

Although once he sees how much time Collin spends with Richard and seems happy to be around, I dunno why Blair doesn't rethink his assumption and wonder why Collin would happily spend time with his asshole, homophobic brother. But also families are complicated and no one knows that better than Blair, so maybe he thought Collin puts up with Richard, as maybe he might be the best of the family or something. Would make sense.

Anyway, this is a slowwww burn. Like...slowwww.

Yes, these two don't even kiss until past the 60% mark. They do sex stuff around 70+% but don't have full on penetrative sex until around 78, 80%.

Yeahhh, it takes a longgg time. And we only get two explicit sex scenes, and only one of them penetrative.

Which yeah, annoyed me. It wasn't too big a deal in the grand scheme of things. The romance was still so good and the build up was done really well. I just wanted a lot more steam, as I am a greedy fucker like that. What we did get was excellent but nowhere near enough for me.

It felt a little...like...unfair that we had to wait so long for the sexy stuff to happen and then when it does it's basically all we get. I was, of course, left feeling bereft. And yeah, that's part of my reason for my star off.

I just think more sex could have been fit in among all the plot happening.

Which yeah, I'd say slowed this down at times, another reason for my star off.

It wasn't too bad, honestly, and the story kept me engaged through most of this long, almost 600 page book.

But there were times, especially when there were long stretches without Blair and Richard interacting, that it got a little slow for me.

Like it was good to be establishing other relationships with side characters too and all, but I just don't give as much a crap about those relationship as the main romantic one, I just don't. So having long stretches of Blair interacting with all these people besides Richard made it drag just a little at times.

Not too bad, as once Blair and Richard really got into their relationship, those long stretches became almost non-existent, but still

This was such a slow burn at first that those stretches were a lot at first and I just wanted Richard and Blair to interact, like pronto.

So yeah, those things annoyed me, so I couldn't get this the 5 stars I gave this author's other work.

Maybe if this had been cut down, those slow moments wouldn't have been there. If there hadn't been so much of other characters and such, ya know?

But, I did enjoy so much about this too. I did adore Richard and Blair together, and their romance was developed really well. Their connection was very well done, and seeing them fall for each other was so great.

The plot was very interesting too and very well done. It had me guessing on some things, where I was wrong on some things, but right on others, and it did have me tenses as I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I was especially surprised about one revelation, though, and I'm definitely interested to see how that goes in the next book.

Which, I think will be about Jeffery, Blair's cousin/guy who became like a brother to him and I think I have his LI in mind too, although I could be wrong.

So, overall, I enjoyed this a lot and it definitely is worth a read. Definitely a strong first outing from this author, although yes, there were ways to improve. Which I think author did with her newest novel, and hopefully in the next installment in this series as well.

But still worth of two thumbs up, for sure! I really enjoy this author and very excited for more from her, for sure.

Can't wait for the next one! 🥰

Beautiful and richly detailed.

An engrossing fantasy, Bite Me was an unexpected delight - brimming with poetic beauty and vivid characters

Blair was a treat - one of the most beautiful character arcs I’ve read in a while.

His fierce determination, strong will and endless courage was a pleasure to witness.

Richard was perfect for him and I liked their passion and chemistry.

The twist at the end caught me off-guard thus leaving me impressed and glad that I chose this since I don’t typically choose slow burns... 💙💙

"Maybe I should’ve been more freaked out that he clearly wanted to suck my blood. But hey. I was actually pretty fucking flattered."

4.5 ⭐

So I really love paranormal romances, and much like Blair I am a vampire girly. Give me a vampire and I will let them suck me dry any time, any day of the fucking week. Me and Blair are twins for real. He is living the dream. Richard and Blair were so fucking cute, and I've actually quiet missed paranormal romances, I haven't read one in such a long time. I am super happy I read this, its gotten me back into wanting to read more paranormal romances. I really liked this, and the series seems interesting enough. I like the whole premise of the town and how paranormal stuff works and I want to know more. It seems like Blair and Richard's story was the opening to getting the other main characters in the series their own stories, because we meet and know the back stories of those character from this book, which I hope means I will see more Blair and Richard in those books. The only downfall, making this not an actual 5 stars for me, is that I wanted even more Richard and Blair. We spent a lot of time with Blair, getting to know him and his past and his troubles. Him navigating his trauma and meeting people in town and making his own family. I just wished, we got to see more of Blair and Richard together, there were a few days they had that was just skipped over. I wanted more of their relationship building and I was hoping to see some of it in a the epilogue but all I really got was that they are going to try this whole relationship thing. Which good for them, but I crave more information, more detail please! But either way I had a fun time, and the book is funny ( love good cussing, not so serious, book with serious emotional tragedies, where the character is just fucking talking and saying crazy shit idk). Also I also wished we got more Richard chapters, I wanted to know more about him. More about the whole Change and his relationship with his family, especially Collin. But I'll take what I got. Alexander Cendese never disappoints making character funny and how animated he is when narrating, and since Richard didn't get many chapter, I was sad I didn't get much of Liam Di Cosimo, since I love him.

I was really looking forward to this. C'mon, it's a gay vampire romantic suspense set on a small town paranormal sanctuary. And it's slow burn. You all know I love that!

I enjoyed the start of this but then Blair got to be too much, especially with the projecting his issues onto others, and his jumping to conclusions. I hate that. Blair acts as a petulant jerk, not so much grumpy.

The inner mologue was unnecessary a lot of the time. The chapters were mostly from Blair's triggering pov, since he relives his abusive childhood & traumas over and over.

The ending was rushed with reveals and information dumped onto the reader after almost 600 pages. The plot was a bit messy.

The characters. Richard was the only one I liked. He reads as within the asexual spectrum, btw. Not that he is ever labelled as such.

Richard's younger brother Collin isn't cute, but an annoying teen!

The miscommunication wasn't hilarious, it relied on Blair assuming Richard is homophobic from Collin's complaint about a loud home & being different. He immediately assumes not only homophobia (cuz projecting, and apparently being gay & goth are the only existing ways to be different) but that everyone is to blame, even though he learns early on that Rich has his own apartment, where Collin stays to escape his other brothers. Also, they're always together, but somehow Blair can't put 2 and 2 together that this (frankly spoiled) "demon-chipmunk" isn't being abused or hated on by Richard?

And what kind of approach to mental health is this, on this so called modern sanctuary? Execute and hate someone for the crimes of the parent, or because they may become insane in the future? That is disgusting. F* this town!

This one really hurt, peeps! I can't express how excited I was for it. But I just couldn't get over my annoyance or frustration 😭😭

4.5 ⭐️

Tropes:
- slow burn
- found family
- small town
- grumpy x grumpy
- virgin
- miscommunication (but done right!!! Because it was hilarious 🤣)

After suffering abuse at the hands of his aunt for years, Blair Evans finally makes his escape and heads to the one place he used to call home—Elmwood, Maine.

The small town is adorable, but not at all what it seems. Elmwood is home to all the things that go bump in the night, not that Blair knows that, and chock full of secrets. He takes the towns quirks (and everyone’s standoffish & suspicious nature) in stride, and tries his best to start over.

It was just supposed to be another job for Richard Prince, spy on Blair and make sure he’s up to nothing nefarious. Piece of cake, right? Too bad this grumpy vampire has bitten off more than he can chew when it comes to the little terror that is Blair.

A very hilarious miscommunication gets them off on the wrong foot, but once Blair gets to know Richard better the attraction between the two of them is undeniable!

Bite Me is a slow burn, which I’m usually not a fan of, but the wait is so worth it. Besides there’s so much going on with Blair, Richard, and Elmwood as a whole that you don’t focus too much on the romance anyway (but once it picks up it’s steamy af!).

I loved this so much and can’t wait for more of Elmwood and these characters!

Another re-read. Just as amazing as last time!

I fucking loved this book. I know it gets shit for being a slow slow burn, or for being too long, but I loved every moment of it. To me, it never felt like it dragged, it never felt too long, and the slow burn was worth the wait. Blair is the little goth boy of my dreams, like a feral kitten or a baby gremlin hoarding his dead plants and cheesy goth clothes. I want to keep him and be his best friend. And Richard was so sweet, his insta-lust and fueled only by his desire to worship Blair, it was perfect. I loved the way he watched after and took care of Blair, while Blair cussed him out and fought back like the little ball of rage he was. Ahhh I loved this book so much! Im so excited to read what happens next!

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Bite Me
is the full length debut by indie author Fae Quin. A vampire romance with emotion, steam and likeable characters.

Escaping from his abusive aunt, Blair, decides to run to the place he was born and raised for the first 8 years of his life, even if he has very little recollection of it. Because of the acts of his mother, the residents of the small secretly supernatural town of Elmwood don't trust him. Vampire Richard is tasked with spying on him to determine is reasons for being there. The more time Richard spends with Blair the more he cares for him and his mission becomes proving how innocent Blair is. When someone seems to be targeting Blair and there's secrets Richard still keeps hidden will they all survive the fall-out.

I wanted to be the center of his universe. I wanted him to want me just as badly as I was beginning to want him.

What I loved : Blair is one of those underdog characters that you automatically feel for. He goes with a heavy dose of trauma baggage, but it doesn't stop him from being kind and loyal. He suffers from claustrophobia and anxiety, but he fights through his fears. For someone who views himself as cowardly, he constantly shows his strength from the start. Then we have our hulking cinnamon roll vampire Richard. He was my favorite 🥰 He's a socially inept, sensitive giant whose best friend is his little brother and who just happens to be a vampire. He cares about Blair the moment he lays eyes on him and tries to help him anyway he can. The two have a SLOW burn situation going on because Blair has more than a few false assumptions of Richard's character and Richard doesn't feel right starting something with secrets between them. When they finally come together, the intimate scenes are hot (I wish there was more of them). Our vampire loving Bliar has a praise kink and very much enjoys the size difference between them.

"Oh, baby." Richard made a soft noise, growly and honey-sweet. It echoed inside my bones, making my knees weak and my head spin. "I wish I could be yours."

What I didn't love : In my opinion, there's no need for a 600 page romance. There are more than a few smaller scenes that could have been editing form this to not make it feel so long. If the author really loved them that much, she could have made them bonus short stories. I also wasn't a fan of the slow burn, it was a bit too slow, but that could be because of how long the book was. Refer to my point about editing out some unnecessary scenes, and the slow burn might have been more enjoyable for me. I also felt like a lot of the intimacy had been hyped up with all the kinks, but then ended up being underwhelming. For all the lead up there is only two full intimate scenes in the 600 page romance that came with an entire kink list.

Overall, I really did enjoy Bite Me by Fae Quin and look forward to the next book. It's filled with a cinnamon roll vampire, a sarcastic goth, found family, secrets, trust, sexual tension, steam, praise kink, biting, a size difference, a snuggly black kitty, and a happy ending.

This was so cute! I'm so glad that I finally read this: I will be honest the whole 'vegan + 'plant babies'' scared me and made me procrastinate this but I really did love the main character. This author wrote things that normally annoy me into things that weren't so bad (though, how can you be homeless and a vegan? Bro, food is food.)

I wanted more paranormal stuff happen, MC just kinda lived in this town and accepted stuff but we didn't go in-depth with most of it. I figure books 2 and three will tackle their own supernatural creature.

3.5* rounded up. I enjoyed this in theory, and some parts of it I really enjoyed in actuality. But there were about 30% too many words and flowery prose (even for me! And I generally enjoy that).

Loved the erotic vampire feeding, the chemistry between the MC’s, and the paranormal elements. I wish this had been shorter and a bit tighter of a plot.

Overall I give it a tentative recommend.

Blairich, where the hell have you been, loca!?

Okay, first off, Blair had my heart from the very first page. He's a tiny, furious, vegan ball of angst complete with black nail polish and a rough past. There is something about affection-starved/touch-starved characters that tug on my heartstrings like no other. I LOVED the way his character developed. It's like his entire being was just one tense and taught muscle, always anticipating the worst and bracing for impact. Until, of course, Richard comes along and rubs out all the kinks and knots (*wink wink*).

I really enjoyed the way the plot unfolded and how the supernatural existed in this world - it was definitely a nod to stories told before with it's own little unique twists. Speaking of unique, Fae Quin's writing style definitely stands out as distinctive. There was something almost poetic in nearly every line of the book - it was wonderful to see such a clear signature in the prose of the story.

One small drawback for me was that it felt a tad bit longwinded? While I liked the deep dive on Blair's inner thoughts, I think it made the overall story slower than it needed to be. Even though I wanted to read every word, I felt my brain automatically trying to skim - which again, I did not want to do. It's not relative to the quality of the writing, rather the quantity. I really enjoyed what I was reading, but I think it could have been more succinct in some areas.

There was also a bit of predictability in the plot. I guessed one of the biggest plot twists like halfway through the book. However, I don't think it's so terrible an issue since I still had a great time getting there.

Okay, now on to the matters that I felt were slightly bigger issues. For one, there were A LOT of questions left unanswered. And yes, I know there's another book coming that follows shortly after the end of this one, but from what I gather, it's told by a different couple? It'll be fine if there are scenes from Blair and Richard's perspective but I don't think that's going to be the case (even though the sneak peek was from Blair's POV, which was interestingly confusing). And it's their perspective that's left unfinished. I don't want to see the answers to my questions through the lens of other characters or in the background of the story, I want it to be direct from the source. In fact, those questions not being answered considering the length of this book was quite a surprise. Another slight disappointment: Richard's POV seemed to be severely lacking - especially at the end! We don't get a portion in his perspective after the big ending and not only did I want it, I feel like his character deserved it.

ALSO, there were some hinted sexual dynamics that didn't happen? Or am I crazy!? I was getting some dom-sub/rough-play vibes and we didn't get any? Big sexually frustrated sad.

With all that said, I'm still cheering on everything that is Blairich, but I'm going to hold out hope that the second book answers some of my questions and leaves me feeling a bit more...fulfilled (in more ways than one).

As I've shared before, vampires are my thing. But gods, this book bit me from page one (or maybe sank its teeth into my neck. I really can't decide which!) and made me bleed until I finished reading it.

I really could 𝐍𝐎𝐓 put it down, even at work I had to hide in corners to read a page! And so I compliment Fae Quin - 𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓 job!

I can't help but notice that the author's writing style is wonderful! In the first chapter alone, I had AT LEAST 10 quotes highlighted, or maybe that was just Blair in all his "five-foot burrito full of angry goth" glory.

𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐫 - OMG! Just OMG! I think he is my spiritual "twin". Not only do I adore his pepperiness, but from page one I was rooting for him. I felt his desire to overcome his fear and fly to the vast world. And the way he'd hit his car when it broke down - the rage, the futility...so primal and real.

Everything about him was a puzzle that I couldn't wait to finish. The dreams, the past, the fragmented memories, the strange happenings around him, the uncovering of the city's secrets and more... The more I learned about him, the more I realized I needed more Blair in my life!

🦇 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 - I can guarantee you that 𝟗𝟎% of girls still dream of such a prince on a white horse. Except here the prince is a sexy 𝐕𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐑𝐄 and the typical "small town bad boy type", but when you unwrap the hard shell you find "a big softie".

Right from the start, it has earned quite a few points in my asset. Even though he's not good with people, he was so caring towards Blair - fixed his car, got him a job... and most of all, the little things and gestures stood out so much. He was super cute, even though at first it was all disguised under completely different intentions.

Their 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 was so hilarious. The way they danced around each other, the little glances, the desire, and finally... the horribly hot denouement.
The SEX scenes are ... something else. You just have to read them.

What I liked most was that the story was extremely diverse and things between them developed in a realistic way. It had mystery, suspense, mystery, lots of action, romance, a wickedly sexy vampire, a plot twist, and everything that could come in between.

I can't help but mention 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧 too! I hope to see more of him in future books!

The ending 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐄𝐃 me (even though there were hints about some things in the table.) I didn't expect it, and I was extremely enthusiastic. There were questions we didn't get answered and things that were hinted at but not seen developed. So I want to see MORE of Blair and Richard and have one of the next books be about them and their relationship again.

What was I missing? More dialogue in the beginning, and more chapters from Richard's point of view. But the book had such an emotional impact on me that I feel like a teenager with her first crash. And my rating is logically 𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬.

Bite Me! is book 1 from Spooky Boys series by Fae Quin.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO START!!!! Fae Quin has been such a great surprise these last few months. I fell in love with her writing immediately and I've never looked back.

Reading a book by Fae is a wonderful sensory experience. Her descriptions are so beautifully written, you can hear, touch and smell the words off the page. She's also so good at sprinkling a bit of humour through all the deep emotions, creating the perfect rounded stories.

Bite Me! tells the story of Blair, who returns (escapes?) to his childhood town after learning he is the legal owner of his deceased parents' house. Blair has lived through hell after his parents passed, yet he's still so trusting and cute and I just want to squeeze him. He will slowly discover what makes the town so special. Richard is the tall and mysterious man who tries to help as best as he can, all the while navigating these newfound feelings he's developing for Blair. The whole story holds a very intriguing mystery and I made different hypotheses as the book progressed. I was kept on my toes until the very end! That's how good this book is.

The relationship the 2 MCs end up building is so beautiful. Beware here, this book is a slow burn, BUT it barely felt like it, as the plot and character development is perfectly done. You can definately feel the love Fae Quin has for her characters. She cherishes them with her words and it made me feel so special as the reader to be able to watch as love unfolded between Richard and Blair.

I said it before and I will say it again, Fae Quin is an enchanteress. She really transports her readers into the most wonderfully magical worlds and I have my VIP tickets ready every time.

I CANNOT wait for book 2 to come out.

Please see Fae's trigger warnings, as this book deals with some dark subjects.

A nice Cozy Fantacy! The introduction was slow. The action was sprinked in even intervals throughout the book. The players.. well you are shown the life of Jeffery and Blair. They see themselves as brothers. Pitted against each other by their so called care giver.

After a truly soul sucking night at a club. Blair runs to the only thing he views is truly his.

What he finds is a tight nit community. Some of the residents are willing to give him a chance.

The prose is beautiful. By the end the beautiful language is down right filthy. The foreshadowing is on point. The twist ending...didn't have a ghost of a chance.

A great beginning! Hope to read more from this world.

I really liked this one! 🥰

I loved the MCs and some of the side characters as well, I would have liked a bit more of Richard's POV and his family life outside of some mentions of his other brothers, but Blair is such a cute potato that I didn't mind being in his head too much ^^

The Smut was really well written and worth the build up to it!

My main issues were :

- It dragged a bit because it's written in a flowery style that can get repetitive at times, so I sometimes felt a bit too stuck in Blair's internal ramblings and not advancing much with the story.

- The set up is really well done and thorough but the ending is super rushed and a lot of plot points are left without a satisfying ending.

- I don't know if some of the final reveals were supposed to be twists but I figured them out in the first half of the book and it could have been more fun if it was more difficult to guess.

But overall it was a great read, with great character and an interesting world building, I would totally recommend! 😚

Plus the audio has two of my favourite narrators so :3

I give this 4.5 delicious, spooky stars!

I'm not usually the biggest fan of vampire stories and overall paranormal romances, but I'm so happy I picked up this first and debut novel by Fae. (If you haven't read her short novella, There's a Monster in the Woods, I highly recommend it!!!)

So.. Bite Me!
Slow burn, vampire/human pairing, size difference, grumpy main characters, a small town full of the supernatural, a horrible childhood trauma and lots of healing.

Blair arrives in the seemingly sleepy small town of Elmwood running from a past and ready to finally be free of his darkness. He is not ready for the secrets, the friendships and the potential the town running on a weird schedule has for him.
And he's not ready for the quiet but extremely handsome Richard who seems to be the only one who isn't wary of him.
The book tells the story of Blair's second chance in Elmwood, the revelation of secrets and the closure he never knew he needed spiced up with a healthy dose of supernatural shenanigans.
The story is both sweetly romantic and spookily mysterious. As the base layer we have Blair and Richard's intertwining slow burn love story and on top of that is the mystery of Blair and the town's past and all the weird incidents happening around him.
It's keeping you on your toes while in a beautiful writing style takes you on a journey of love, secrets and supernatural. The vampire angle was great both incorporating a lot of the existing lore and giving it a little twist to be unique.

The characters were spot on and so loveable I couldn't help but adore them from the first moment.
I mean we have Blair, who is a "five-foot-nothing ball of rage" dressed in all-black and who is extremely fascinated with vampires to the point he wears hoodies with chubby ones and cute text on them. He's an "emotionally constipated runaway" with trauma the size of a house on his shoulders and a desperate need for love.
And then we have Richard, a vampire with a *seemingly* frozen heart and literally zero people skills. He's the most adorable six-foot-four giant who hides a scared little boy inside his soul wanting to be free to live and feel for the first time. And when his stone heart starts to beat for the tiny ball of black rage named Blair his life might just turn around.
Their relationship was the perfect slow burn and I loved it! It was tentative and honest from the moment they met, both bringing their awkward, broken selves to the table yet finding the strength with each other to move forward.
The spice level is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 in this one! Though it is a slow burn and the emphasis is on the plot it does have some very meaningful and beautifully written bedroom scenes that are scorching hot.

The book also has great friendships, a cute little cat, an overexcited little brother and the most perfect evil villain. There's nothing better than hating the villain for the first moment they appear and seeing them brought to justice!

The writing style is truly beautiful and despite this being a debut novel I really could barely notice stylistic errors. Yes, some parts were overly detailed and some parts were a little glossed over but overall it was a really enjoyable read. It took me a few days to finish because it is a handful and not the easiest to consume at once but it really was a great experience.

This vampire story totally awakened my love for the supernatural and I cannot wait to read more in the series, to see more of the wonderful characters and to experience more of this peculiar kind of supernatural!

This could have been amazing but I think the focus was placed slightly wrong?

This is nearly 600 pages long but
- I felt like I could have more time with the MCs.
- I felt like I needed to see Blair coming out from under his aunt's fingernails more
- I felt like Jeffrey needed a different kind of presence in the book
- I felt like the mystery plot was supposed to be central? But it wasn't a mystery at all...like I don't like or read mysteries but I knew exactly what was going on there the entire time
- I felt like although the author managed to remain consistent and remember snippets from pages ago some things were left by the side of the road...(The friendships for example)
- This read a bit like it had previously been written as serial chapters... and that it should have either been shorter or more pages given to Richard and Blair together
- we don't need winking or fluttering holes
- these guys needed more times to discover their kinks together imo
- there was all this hint dropping at the beginning that made it feel like they could be fated mates of some sort so I was really disappointed that didn't happen :/

There were lots of moments I truly loved and it's quite a good debut novel but it also had "epilogue problem solving" which I really dislike

A few quotes

"I want to be the quiet place you go to when everywhere else is too loud and all you have the energy to be is just... you." (p. 446)

Blair

* "I was a five-foot nothing ball of rage" (p. 10)
* "tendency to wear weirdly erotic Dracula themed items of clothing. They were campy. I liked it." (p. 13)
* "It was the nicest place I'd ever been. Because it was mine. Mine alone. I'd never had something that was just mine before." (p. 69)
* "Good boy," Richard hummed, his voice almost playful. His word however shocked my system. I was frozen. Paralyzed by how casually he'd manage (sic!) to hit all my buttons at once." (p. 131)
* "Did I want to be Richard's new chew toy? Fuck, yes. Was it going to happen? Probably not, but a boy could dream." (p. 242)

Richard

*"You're a big softie, you know that?" I winced. "I'm not," I denied quickly, glancing around to make sure no one had overheard."(p. 53)
* "Blair was also tiny. Absolutely fucking tiny. I hadn't realized I liked that. Really fucking liked it." (p. 88)
* "He was so fucking pretty I wanted to crush him like a petal between my fingers. What the fuck. What the fuck, Richard?" (p. 107)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5/5)

If you’re a sucker (pun intended) for witty, cute and humorous vampire *MM* romance, I think Bite Me might be about to take a big, juicy bite out of your TBR list. Yes, it’s a debut, but don’t let that fool you—this one’s dripping with charm, sass, witty banter and steamy tension to keep you hooked from the first page to the last.

Let’s be real: as a debut, there are a few rough edges here and there, but the sparkling chemistry between the characters more than makes up for it. Quin has mastered the art of snark and charm, blending them effortlessly into a story that feels fresh and surprisingly tender, despite all the more depressing themes. Honestly, the humour alone is reason enough to dive in—listening to the audiobook took that experience to a whole new level. It’s like being in on a hilarious inside joke with the characters.

Now, I won't lie: you’ll notice the telltale signs of a debut novel. But you know what? It didn’t bother me much. The chemistry between the characters is off the charts, and the romance is deliciously satisfying, making up for any minor hiccups in pacing or structure.

That said, the mystery subplot is where things got a bit sticky. While Quin had me glued to every word uttered throughout the book, the subplot started to lose its bite (yep, I went there) halfway through. I think 25% of the middle part could’ve been used to beef up the mystery, which felt a little undercooked. Especially towards the ending. Let’s just say it felt like Quin hit fast-forward when I was ready for a slow, delicious reveal. It wrapped up way too quickly, leaving me wanting more in a slightly frustrating way. But since this was a debut, and I enjoyed myself too much while listening, I'll gladly ignore these hiccups.

To me, Bite Me is a stellar debut and absolutely worth sinking your teeth into, and I’m already thirsty for her next book.
