Tragedy chased me away. Trickery brought me home. My omega order now leaves me at the mercy of an affluent family my parents sold me to.

Damn an omega’s lack of rights.

After my new 'owner' tries to assault me in public, the crowned prince, Drake Brighton, and the reason I ran away, comes to my rescue. Somehow his ridiculous claim of me being his wife saves me from an unimaginable future.

Now, my childhood dreams seem to be coming true. Growing up with the Brighton boys, I had wanted nothing more than to be their omega. After all, I'd been in love with them since our pretend wedding when we were kids.

If only an omega could truly get her happily ever after. It’s nearly impossible, especially when I’m in love with royalty and long-buried secrets threaten my dream life. Not to mention an assassination and budding wars. Now I must decide if love and the life I’ve always wanted are worth fighting for, and if I can forgive those who’ve wronged me. The cost just might be too great.

Princess or Knot, the first story in the Pack Next Door series by M.P. Starkweather was a fabulous read with a unique twist on one of my favorite tropes—and a definite must read for anyone that loves friends to lovers, omegaverse RH romances. Starkweather did an amazing job at building this new world with such endearing characters that capture your heart, I just couldn’t put this one down!

Our FMC Isabella is not your typical shy and meek omega, having learned early on how to hide her status in order to protect herself. When tragedy strikes, she soon finds herself banished to another land—and torn from her childhood friends and the only people that truly seem to care for her. However, you can’t escape your fate forever and she soon finds herself not only back home, but essentially sold to a group of Alphas. A group she definitely wants no part of. Yet lucky for her, one of her
childhood friends is the crowned Prince Drake Brighton who doesn’t hesitate to rescue her from this fate and claims her for himself and for the other members of their pack, Landyn and Kingsley.

But of course it can’t be as easy as that, and they soon find their lives challenged at every turn as they all try to work together to find a way to be together once again. This angst filled story will capture your heart and is a fabulous introduction as it takes you on quite the journey full of delicious spicy heat, explosive chemistry and lots of laughter. I can’t wait for more of this world!

I think I have maybe DNF’d two books in all my life… this is the third. I can see where the author was trying to go with the story, but the development felt stilted and unnatural. I struggled with the bouncing around at the beginning and setting the background or scene of the book, doesn’t have to be so matter of fact. I also didn’t feel the chemistry between them, though honestly maybe that came later? I just don’t think this writing style is for me.

3.75⭐️. This was a refreshing change from the last 3 omega-verse books I read. The island concept is interesting and the author came up with her own spin on the way the dynamics would work and this within the setting of a royal family. All of the mains are likeable characters and there was character growth for all of them.

Great epilogue. I will definitely return to this book series.

I was really looking forward to this book, but I was let down only a few pages in. There was too much explaining, telling of how everything was without any imagery to make it interesting. There was no hook, in my opinion.

3 Kingdoms on an island, 3 class structures, a ruling Family Council on all three, where being an Omega means little to nothing other than their ability to produce Alphas, leaving lots of leeway for oppression and abuse.

Like a fairytale on steroids, not that this is a fairytale by any means, the tone of the book reminds me of a fairytale. This is quite the unusual read, Alphas, Betas and Omegas, without once "seeing" a shift, in a society that clings to ancient rules, one that Omegas can be sold off to the highest bidder with no say whatsoever. Isabella is one of those, after a tragedy she is forced to move to the mainland until her parents summon her back, having sold her to the dispicable Chad. Until 3 dashing brothers come to her rescue... pitting the wrath of their mother the Queen, who goes to extreme lengths to prevent their mating.

I enjoyed the diversity of the brothers nature's, the difference in their approach and how ultimately they work together to stop the Queen's plans. Drake's guilt threatens to undo him, whilst Lan and Kings appease Isabella. Full of angst and interior motives, this tale surprised me pleasantly, a new and fresh insight into pack life

I have no words. The ending was amazing, but the trials Izzy and her princes have to go through still hurts my heart long after I’ve closed the covers on this book. That’s how deeply I was pulled into it. I love that at the heart of this story is a second chance – they’re kinda my kryptonite, so I was hooked from the beginning. And I adore that Izzy is a sassy and independent omega that hasn’t fallen prey to the meek, biddable stereotype. Theirs is the exact perfect Happy Ever After for them, and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for the rest of the series.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

Isabella grew up next door to the Brighton boys, crowned princes from the Kingdom of Crescent Canyon on the island of Orolis. At sixteen Isabella was in love with Drake, Landyn and Kingsley, she thought of them as hers. Until a tragedy happens and she is banned to the main land by the King and Queen.
Broken hearted Isabella must live on her own hiding her designation and trying to live as a beta with suppressants.
10 years have passed and her parents have sent for to return. They have made a deal with the Wilde family and sold her to them like she was cattle. They would “officially” be matched at the Omega Assignment Ceremony.
The day of the ceremony the crowned prince Drake saves Isabella from being manhandled by Chad Wilde and claims Isabella as his omega. This causes an outrage with the King and Queen, Wilde family and Isabella’s parents.
Drake does not back down and makes it to where Isabella will be assigned to them instead of the Wildes.
Bitterness will cause havoc and Isabella must fight many obstacles to be able to stay with the boys, now men, that she’s loved for so long. The Princes must fight to keep her even against their own parents. There will be blood shed, betrayal and death before they can get to their HEA.

Isabelle is banished after an accident. A few years later, she has been passing as a beta and created a new life for herself, when her mother suddenly summons her home. When she is about to be matched off with an @bus1ve jerk, she is saved by her childhood love/hate friend and his brothers. I liked that Drake, Alan, and Kings were so devoted to her, although Drake is sort of an alphahole at times. The story is fun, steamy, and fast paced. I loved the chapter haters, they were cute and funny. Overall, this was a fun stand-alone.

I loved this story! We get second chance romance, tragedy, and friends to lovers. It had great characters and I loved the world building! I was also very appreciative of the backstory we get of this world. It definitely helped me to better understand the story. Isabella is a feisty FMC. Her story has so twists and turns but her guys and her fight for their HEA. They will have to work together, it's them against the world!

I enjoyed izabellas story. She is one stubborn omega though but that sure helped her along the way in the story. Her parents and the way they handled her was just horrible . There were other incidents that occurred that were just plain mean . I loved the never give up attitude Bella had and her mates were just as fantastic . I loved the ending and was so happy for all of them . I can’t wait for the next story in this series.

This book is a Omegaverse with some darker themes that may be triggering to some readers. Isabella and the princes face a horrible situation in their teens that separates them for 10 years. Once reunited, they face trials, both individually and as a group. The author created an interesting new world with an intriguing storyline.

The couple: Drake/Lan/Kings and Isabella

Romance trope: omegaverse; rh
Series: The Pack Next Door
Length: 355 pages

Plot: Isabella lived next door to the royal family when she was young. She was in love with all three of the young princes, although she didn't know if they returned her affections. After a terrible tragedy and betrayal forced her from the kingdom, she lived life as a beta, hiding her omega status, until she was called back by her parents 10 years later. On the cusp of being sold to an Alpha by her parents, Prince Drake rescues her and he and his brothers take her as their omega. There are so many barriers, though, that it isn't certain everything will work out.

Commentary: Honestly - the best thing about the story was the chapter titles - those were really cute. My favorite? "Oh Great, Chad's Here"

However, in general, I found the story superficial and confusing in its execution of the standard tropes.

*Nobody seemed to respect the princes as royals. They were sneered at and Chad attacked the Crown Prine while his friends looked on, as though there wouldn't be any consequence. Isabella's parents acted the same way. They were royalty and nobody seemed to care.
*Isabella didn't act like an omega, and that seemed to be a point the author was making. She's not subservient and meek like the other girls. She's sassy. But there wasn't enough of a subversion of the trope for it to matter - it just made her character seem like a bitchy brat.
*All the characters acted very young, even though they weren't. It wasn't a good feel for a pack that was going to start a family soon and become rulers of the kingdom. Drake was still fighting with/picking on Isabella because he likes her and is confused about his feelings, like a schoolyard crush. Some major immaturity from all the characters (old king and queen included).
* The two alphas didn't have a lot of alpha energy
*The sex scenes. Not good - very wooden, very prescribed.
*The villain - I understand why the queen would still be upset at losing her daughter. She seems to have lost her mind though and I don't understand why a supposedly subservient, meek, piece-of-property omega was allowed to act like that. She ended up being a bit of a one-dimensional caricature.

Maybe it just wasn't for me. I wanted to like it, but just couldn't get excited about the story. I'm glad it was the right story for others.

Grammar/formatting: a few errors that could have been caught with another pass by a proofreader.

Next book in the series: Fiancée or Knot

I loved this book. Bella is a sweet and sassy FMC who is willing to stand up for what she believes. After being forced from her home after a tragic accident she returns years later and is shocked by what is happening. Her life is about to change and not for the good. Loved the plot twist and the surprises in this book. Great steamy scences and some very sweet ones.

Tragedy strikes, and Isabella Vanderbilt is banished at the young age of 16 from her home in Orolis Island. Leaving behind her parents and three best friends, she resides on the main land of Ayix and hides her Omega status. Omega women have no rights and are treated as property. Ten years later, Isabella is tricked by her parents to return home and they immediately sell her to a family of Alphas to be shared. The Omega Assignment Ceremony is preparing to commence when one of her childhood friends, crowned Prince Drake Brighton, rescues her from the handsy Alpha and takes Isabella for himself. Isabella is officially confirmed as the Omega for her childhood best friends; Drake, Landyn, and Kingsley. Except their father is the King that banished her all those years ago and now they only have a month to mend ten years of damage.

Isabella’s connection with each of her men was unique, but I certainly preferred her interactions with Landyn and Kingsley. I felt a though the back-and-forth fights between Drake and Isabella was too much. He betrayed her when they were teenagers and continues to keep secrets in present day. He’s also so hot and cold that it felt toxic. Why couldn’t he tell her the truth? Telling her things are handled was just not enough for me. I know that picking fights is Drake and Isabella’s thing, but it just didn’t feel genuine. Luckily her relationship with the other two guys surpassed my expectations!

The prologue provides vast world-building and sets the tone for the hierarchy in this universe. The kingdoms are Crescent Canyon, Black Meadow, and Elysian Hill. Since this book is a standalone with closure at the end, I am looking forward to reading future books featuring the other kingdoms.

Tropes: Paranormal romance, fantasy romance, omegaverse, royalty, reverse harem, happily-ever-after
Heat: 5/5

What would you do when you got banished for something that was not fault, the one person who could have helped you turns his back on you and makes your punishment stand. You never got to say goodbye to the others, and your parents just sent you off.

Time has now passed and you have been called home by your parents but for what reason it is not until you arrive that you are to be married off to another family. The main head you know all about him his is sadistic and evil and has always had his sights set on you.

It is the ceremony were Omega’s are assigned to a unit and at this you are corned by him and the last person you expect to help you is the Prince, the one that pushed you away so many years ago. Then fate steps in and you have now been assigned to the Prince’s as their Omega , but how will you feel at seeing the other two brothers. Why has he done this now can I cope being this close to the Brighton boys again. Can I ever forgive him for his part that he played and how will we all get along. Her parents won’t be happy as they have lost their meal ticket and how will the Queen feel as she was the one who made sure she left in the first place.

This is great story that delves into the inner workings of the Omega verse from the perspective that Omega’s have no rights and we are brought along on a story of Isabella who suffered heartache and loss of those she valued most at a young age and now is brought back into the inner circle of the boys that she was pulled away from. This is not an instant connection again between them all as she has been hurt and the boys have to earn her trust and love again. The story is so well developed through out and the character building is on point, The twists in the story you don’t see happening.

Princess or Knot is a nice twist on the usual trope of omegas, alphas and betas. Instead of the typical, story that you're used to this author brings in something new. Omegas have no rights beyond what it deemed. For Isabella, she has more problems that she even knows. She's in love with the king's sons, but the queen it would seem has an issue with her. When tragedy strikes, it's the perfect excuse to get rid of her. So Isabella is exiled away until her parents call her home for an "emergency." Turns out that "emergency" had little to do with anything other than their pockets. But when fate intervene, what will this mean for Isabella and her future?
Princess or Knot starts off interestingly enough and kept my attention for the most part. Isabella gives me a bit of whiplash in the story. She gets a backbone throughout the story in various places, and then she falls into an emotional mess. I'm sure that that will be pointed as being a part of her being an omega, but it's hard to keep up with at times.
Things develop gradually in this story, but the heat is always just below the surface even before she's exiled. This book is a standalone novel, so you get it all, the drama, the romance, the uncertainty and then a nice HEA with lots of detail of their futures.
I enjoyed this book overall, so I'm choosing to rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This was the first book I read by Starkweather, and while it was definitely sweeter than the usual book I read, it was still cute, and an interesting take on the standard omegaverse story. This version of omegaverse definitely had a different type of omega. The sort of scenting, and heat based spicy scenes we expect from omegaverse existed, but Isabella was headstrong and willing to put aside usual omega tendencies in an unexpected way. She's a character that would appeal to someone wanting a sweet read, but with female who is not a doormat. The steel spine she was able to develop and portray was refreshing in a long span of books with less defiant females. There is also a sort of loathing and distrust that occurs because of the incidence in the beginning of the book that gives very strongly the sensation the relationships with Isabella and the Brighton are not the instalove variety, even if some level of instattraction exists. This relationship complexity weaves in and out through the entire book, creating some suspense that is easy to grab hold of and keep the pages turning. While it wasn't the typical omega verse read, I did appreciate where and how it differed, as it added to the character depth, and would really be interesting to a reader not usually enticed by omega heroines.

This was such a fun read, it was such a different twist on a popular trope. Plus, it's a cute friends to lovers story, which I absolutely love because it's the lighthearted thing you need sometimes! Also the world building was really well done, and now I can't wait for book 2!

Isabella is not a typical omega, she doesn't shy away, and is as strong as her status let her. She also learned to hid her omega status after a tragedy strikes, since omega's have no rights and are treat as property. Unfortunately, she was tricked by her parents to come back home, and they sell her to a family of Alphas to be shared. Luckily a childhood friend, the crowned Prince Drake Brighton rescues her from the horrible alphas, and takes her for himself. When Drake, Landyn & Kingsley claim her, it's not an easy road they've put themselves on.

I love how different each of their relationships are, I do wish that we could've seen more sweet from Drake but I get that it's their dynamic. I love that she has Landyn and Kingsley as her strong pillars too, but they all make it work!

With the beginning of the book laying the groundwork for the world building, you'll definitely be drawn into this world and want to stay for a while.

I liked the book and plot. It's a solid standalone Omegaverse book with a HEA. There are funny moments as well as sad ones, and of course, many obstacles to overcome before the finish line.

So, the general story is about Isabelle (called Izzy/Elle/Bella), who is an omega, but banished by the royal family after a tragic incident to the mainland. There she lives her days as a beta (suppressants, of course). Until her parents call her back home under the pretense to need her help. In truth, she is sold to the Wilde family. After a dire situation with her “owner”, she is rescued by Drake Brighton, who is the prince and former childhood friend. He states she is his Omega. Together with his brothers, Landyn/Lan and Kingsley/Kings, he claimed Izzy. Of course, that doesn't go without issues. There is the king and the queen, her family, and the Wilde family, who all throw stones in the way.

So, there is a lot going on. The story itself is really fast-paced. There are steamy scenes as well. I loved the aspect of childhood friends turning lovers. I liked Izzy and the guys. Even though, I wasn't always okay with the decisions and the relationship felt sometimes off to me, but that's the only complaint I had. Overall, it was good. So, I give it 4 stars.

I loved how resilient Isabella is throughout this book. Even though Drake and his father banished her from the kingdom, she still made the best of what she had.
On the mainland, she had a job and an apartment living as a beta. She was prepared to live like this the rest of her life if she had to. When her parents called her home acting like it was an emergency, like a good omega, she returned only to be ambushed with a match to someone she couldn't stand.
Then, like a white knight, Drake saves her from the match and claims her at the ceremony for himself and his brothers.
I loved how strong she was against his parents even against everything his mother threw at her. I know that his mother had a reason to dislike her, but she could have given her a chance knowing that her sons wouldn't be happy with anyone else.
Even with everything the Queen threw at them, Drake, Lan, and Kings still stayed by Isabella. Their love for her trumped everything. They lived ten years without her because of their parents. They were determined not to let anything come between them again.
The twists and turns throughout the book kept ypu vested in their love for each other all the way to the end. I loved this book and look forward to reading more by this author.

Isabella's story starts off like a fairytail storybook - her family lives next door to the royal family. Growing up close with the family goes well until it doesn't. One first kiss and a tragedy occur turning Isabella's life upside down and those she expect to be in her corner when it matters most turn on her and she is banished from her home island, her family, and everything she has ever known to finish growing up as an omega on the mainland. 10 years later her mother wants her to come home to visit, but the woman that comes back to the island is not the same person as the broken teenager that left the island. She soon finds out that this has become more than a "visit" and that her money hungry family has sold her to another family to be married off....

This book was a nice read. It had a good amout of bad guys and obstacles for Isabella to deal with so it kept the book interesting. I liked how the guys had very different and unique relationships with Izzy. Kingsley was my clear favorite because he had been the only one that seemed to stay in her corner the entire time so when she had that moment when she treated him way to harshly I was glad when she was called out on it.

ARC Review

Okay, so when I usually read omegaverse I am partial to sweet omegaverse in la la land. Though, I was very intrigued by this book while reading it. It plays into more of the ancient rules for Omegas, Betas, and Alphas where Omegas are seen as a little more than property to be done with at what their family wills or the Alphas will.

I really enjoyed the unique plot within this book and how the characters worked with one another to defeat the protagonist's plans. I definitely do not want to give too much into the plot because well, that is what reading is for!

This book definitely gives another side to omegaverse and packs with the themes of Queens and Kings in ruling kingdoms. It was a pleasant change from what I would traditionally pick up and I cannot wait till the next book is out!

*** Bonus point(s) → for the fact that my name is the Female Main Characters' name specifically my nickname which I never see!

As always beware of meddling future mothers-in-law who will stop at nothing to stop this relationship. Yet, these characters prove their strength and unity against her and in the end prevail.

This was my first foray into omegaverse books and it was underwhelming. The plot felt shallow: something would happen, the four main characters (the pack) would say "We need to talk about this" and then talk about it. Then something else would happen, and the four main characters would say "We need to talk about this" and the Alpha-Alpha would say "I've got it under control" and then everyone would be mad at him. The omega, Isabella, has three personality traits: nice, pretty, fights with Drake (the Alpha-Alpha). Drake has one personality trait: Alpha. Landyn has one personality trait: Alpha but not a douchebag. Kingsley has one personality trait: Beta. People get exiled from the kingdom or thrown in the dungeon willy-nilly. The queen tries to kill Isabella because of a decades old grudge for something that wasn't even Isabella's fault. The plot was paper thin and if there had been less plot and more knot I'd be happier.

Honestly this read like the kind of stuff I used to read on fanfiction.net when I was 14 and thought that was the pinnacle of literature.

Two stars though because the smut was smutting.

The Pack Next Door starts off with book one which is Isabella and the Brighton boys story. After Isabella is banished at the age of sixteen she must do her best to survive on the mainland. Ten years later she is tricked and sold by her parents to the Wilde family. Drake Brighton saves her from being abuse by Chad Wilde. Drake, Kingsley, and Landyn Brighton claim her as their omega to their parents and the Wilde family’s outrage. They have a difficult journey ahead full of obstacles, drama, action, laughter, and flat out rage. Their relationship is complicated and unique. Isabella is not your typical meek omega. She has a back bone of steel and is determined to field the obstacles in their way. I enjoyed the back and forth between Drake and Isabella. The relationships with the other two boys help balance out the overall push and pull from Drake. Overall, a very entertaining and enjoyable storyline. Ready for what this author has in store next.

Princess or Knot by M.P. Starkweather is the first in the new series The Pack Next Door. We first meet Isabella, an Omega, who has to leave her home and life when a tragedy happens. She has to leave behind her three best friends Drake, Kingsley, and Landyn. Ten years later, Isabella's parents trick her into coming home. In this world, Omega's are property. So her parents sold her off to a pack of not so nice Alpha's. Her best friends step up to help her - and get to take her to their home. Great story. No bullying within Isabella and her guys. All in all, this is a sweet, fun story. I especially loved the epilogue. I love it when an author does an extended epilogue where it is five, ten years in the future. Looking forward to the next in the series.

“Princess or Knot” is the first book in a, what I presume, series of contemporary omegaverse standalones. I liked the combination of a “second chance” trope with royalty, and how the book truly touches the governmental structure of this island without going into too many details.

I enjoyed the interactions between Isabella, Kingsley, Landyn and Drake. Even though Isabelle knew all three of them years ago, it’s clear the relationships she had with them were vastly different. I thought it was nice to see these differences, and how they would flow into a romantic relationship. Especially the conversations between Isabella and Drake were quite hilarious at times. When you like your men devoted to their woman, you will like this standalone sweetverse story.

This was a good Omega-verse book by M.P. Starkweather. It had all of the elements of an omega-verse with alphas, betas, and omegas within the society.

💜 super sweet omega FMC
💜 three strong MMC
💜 mysteries and challenges
💜 🌶🌶🌶🌶 spicy spice

We meet Isabella, who is an omega. She’s out super sweet omega who also does stand up for herself. She grows up being friends with three brothers and a sister. During an unfortunate event, things change drastically and Isabella’s life changes in a blink of an eye.

I thought this was a super sweet story and I loved the dynamics between Isabella and her boys. There were lots of surprises and twists that I didn’t expect. I’m glad that I read this book as I wasn’t disappointed. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Creative and Fun!

I enjoyed this story, my first from this author. It’s fun and a really creative twist on a popular trope. I’ve always been a big fan of anything friends to lovers as well. The world building is well done, and I definitely look forward to more from this author.

Isabella is definitely not a “meek” omega, which was enjoyable for the most part. I definitely got a bit frustrated by the back and forth between her and Drake though. I think I would have preferred for them to settle a little of that a bit sooner in the story. She came off as just a bit bratty there.

That being said, it still didn’t fully detract
From the story, which had me very enthralled! It was definitely worth the read, and I look forward to reading more in the series!
