You can’t heal the world, Manon. Or so my guys keep telling me.

Kitos told me I was his.

But I don’t belong to anybody.

He’s already brought Stoneraven to its knees, eating the pain and misery like it’s a tasty treat and pumping up his power while destroying everything around him.

Now there’s nothing stopping him taking his control wider.

We can’t let that happen, or it won’t just be one world that needs healing.

Pain Eater is the final part of a paranormal romance reverse harem series, meaning that at the end our heroine will end up with a happily ever after with more than one of our guys. It features four alpha-hole heroes who would burn the world down for our heroine and a part-demon, pain-eating heroine with a big heart and an even bigger martyr complex.

Also featuring scenes of a sexual nature suitable for ages 18+ and bad language.

This was a great conclusion to the series! I loved getting to see more of all of the guys and their POVs, and I couldn't help but smile at the humor the guys brought which juxtaposed the horrible things also happening in Stoneraven. It was cool getting more worldbuilding too! While at first I didn't feel that Cass did enough to redeem himself for how he was in the first two books, and sometimes it felt like there was more focus on a couple of the guys, it all honestly worked out in the end and I really liked the group's dynamic a lot. 😊 The side characters added some great flavor too.

I also appreciated how events weren't dragged out for too long here, even if it felt like sometimes Manon and the guys were going around putting out mini fires. 😂 While it would've been fun to get another book just because I didn't want to leave this quite group yet, I think it was the perfect length. I lost count of how many times Nico called Manon love in the dialogue (it was a lot 🥲) and Gabe calling her cupcake, but it was still endearing. This was a a fun fast-paced easy to read RH with some nice twists and I really enjoyed the ride with our cast! The epilogue was super sweet too. I can't wait to see what else Essie writes next.

For most of this book the big bad could have been dealt with at anytime. Meaning the rest of the book is not needed. This book reminded me of the scene in Austin Powers where Scott offers to get a gun and take care of Austin. His dad, Doctor Evil was like, Scott, that’s not how we do things. The arch nemesis is placed somewhere they can escape and then we leave them alone so they can escape.

What makes this book worse than that premise is that they don’t even capture the big bad or pretend to try and take him out. For most of the book all of the characters seem unaware of the numerous ways, times, places, opportunities where they could have taken the big bad out.

I feel kind of neutral about this book. The story is okay and the author wraps up all the loose ends. The problem is there is no real tension build up, no problem to resolve. There were plenty of opportunities where the author could have created more drama, but it just falls flat. That being said, I would have felt like I would have missed out had I not read this last instalment. Ultimately, I'm glad I read it. RATINGS
Overall: 2.7/5
Characters: 3.5/5
Plot: 2/5
Chemistry: 2/5
Spice: 2.5/5
Pacing: 3/5
Editing/Consistency: 2/5

MAIN CHARACTERS - Manon, August, Nico, Gabe and Cass

SYNOPSIS - A woman seeks protection from a team of supes but on the day they make the oath to help her, one of their team goes missing and they find her covered in his blood with no memory or explanation. Blaming her, they spend the next 3 years treating her like shit only to realize that maybe she isn't responsible after all and maybe they even they like like her.

REVIEW - I'm sad this say, I didn't really care for this series. It was chaotic and awkward at best. I think the premise was great but the execution just missed the mark entirely. Nothing was fleshed out and it felt like every time we got close, it's like we developed ADHD and lost the plot entirely. The chemistry between the characters didn't feel natural. They didn't have a reason to just start liking her and believe she wasn't responsible (even though it should have been obvious with all the time spent together on jobs since she's a absolute softie). Nico's abrupt 180 was exactly that - abrupt. It didn't make sense. Give us a reason. Let us watch these relationships grow and heal. As for the plot itself, yeaaaaah.... The big baddie is It's just a mess of great ideas that never met their full potential and that sucks because it could've been amazing. This last book especially felt rushed and was riddled with errors and inconsistencies. Maybe someday down the line the author will give this one a better shot. I know some that have come back for a passion project and turned them into what they really wanted from the start.

WOULD I RECOMMEND - No.

I had high expectations for this final book, and although I wouldn't say I'm disappointed, I'm a bit underwhelmed. I understand how hard it can be to wrap up a story like this, considering our main antagonist had such a large influence on this city. That said, I felt like the author tried to run away from the action, and consequently, a lot of it seemed to happen off the page.

I was expecting a grand final boss battle, where maybe a few of our characters were threatened and had to discover strength within themselves they didn't know they had. Namely, Manon. This book focused a lot on her healer abilities and her want to not do harm onto others. That said, I felt it was a bit of a disconnect from the character in the earlier books. While she was kind-hearted in the first one, she wasn't exactly helpless and could defend herself. I felt that in this book, she relied a lot on her mates to save her.

The last half of the book, in my opinion, was anticlimactic. We spend a lot of time gearing up to… something, only for it to be quietly and quickly resolved.

Action aside, I did like the way the characters were explored in this one. The found family aspect was very prominent, which I enjoyed, and I loved seeing the comraderie and bonds between the guys. Gabe was nicely re-integrated in the group and Cass got his redemption.

There are a few loose threads like the situation on the other side of the portal and I would have liked to see more of the twins (although I think it's because Dustin, the twins, and that girl have more to say ;) ).

There were a few unfinished sentences that I hope will be fixed when the book officially releases.

Overall, I didn't dislike the book, but I was expecting something different.

this series went downhill really quickly. The devolving of the FMC into a bleeding heart doormat is one, the lack of chemistry and buildup to the relationships was another. One would think that with 3 books, more gradual realization of the relationship would be explored, characters instead woke up one day and suddenly just decided they liked each other.

the biggest issue though, was the lack of real tension and how weak the Big bad seemed. like one of the reviewers has stated, it was really pretty apparent how at any one point he could have been dealt with by just a single of the MMC instead of having it drag out for 3 whole books. Also the final showdown was anticlimatic to say the least and to have side characters we were introduced to only once deal with him was a cop out of the highest degree.

it was also very frustrating how the FMC just went along with everything, including getting kidnapped twice without even trying to think of a plan to escape.

TLDR: too much telling and not enough showing.

Warnings:

#1) Paranormal creatures: demons, berserker, witches, shifters, etc.

#2) Don't be a prude: it's a bit steamy, and not fade-to-black; MF; MFM.

#3) Check your triggers: trauma from parent neglect; servitude; kidnapping; orphans; experimentation; poverty; loss; etc.

#4) Last book in a series.

#5) 1st person POV; alternating chapters.

#6) HEA.

Suter says this series is her first foray into RH paranormal; evidently she's found her calling, because….holy smokes!

The series comes to a satisfying conclusion, but let's be honest here: we need to see the guys with a baby on board. No joke. (Hint, hint, Suter!) I just adore the dynamics of this group and how nicely each supports the others. The characters grow and develop so nicely that I just want this series to continue for a few more books at least. *sigh*

I love Manon, August, Nico, Cass and Gabe. The chemistry, the intensity of the emotions/feelings, the banter, all of it is perfect. All of the things they have faced throughout this trilogy has tested them not just physically but emotionally as well. This trilogy kept me captivated the entire time, I couldn't put the books down. I can't wait to see what Essie comes out with next!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I love that we get even more chapters from everyone's POV - I feel like we get a better understanding of the boys that way and definitely gives us a better understanding of the story in "real time" as they are separated throughout and aren't able to stay together as a group often.

I think it's a great ending to the series, but I definitely wouldn't be disappointed if we got to see more of this universe through the eyes and stories of secondary characters - like the Shifter triplets.

Great series

I read the entire series in two days. It’s wonderful. The heroine is so strong but soft at the same time. It made me laugh out loud multiple times and it made me cry at others. There are a couple of spots where there are editing errors with a dropped word or a where the author was going to say one thing and then switched the wording half way through but didn’t fix the entire sentence but it is easy to figure out what was meant.

Good trilogy

I enjoyed the trilogy. This is a review for the 3 books : likable characters, good plot and character development throughout. There was a lot of mistrust and miscommunication but they made it work in the end.

I do feel that a few things were left up in the air and I would have like so closure with those but overall an enjoyable reading experience.

End of series

This may be the end of series but the that just means action and steam get better and hotter. It was hard to put the book down. The only time I did was when my battery drained. I am planing on reading the entire series again.

The last book in this series was action packed.

It was great to see everyone come together.

Another series that is easy to read, full of excitement, angst and few laughs along the way.

My excitement at reading this last installment in the Alphas of Stonraven was palpable, and I was so not disappointed!

The characters are flawed and beautiful, the adventure were tense and thrilling, and I had to savor it knowing it was coming to an end.

This was a great series, I highly recommend it if you want some spice, some excitement, and a totally unexpected story!
