Last volume I Freaked Out TM because Beldaruit got a small panel cameo BUT THIS TIME... THIS TIME I'M REALLY FREAKING OUT BECAUSE HE HAS MULTIPLE PRESENT APPEARANCES IN A CHAPTER.... AHHH!!! WAAUUUGH!!! BELDA-CUTE!!! BELDA-YAYYYY I LOVE GRANDPA
This volume had so many wonderful and touching moments in it, and even gave us an adorable bonus chapter of Olly and Qifrey as kids!!! I'm honestly really bummed this series is over but I'm so glad it exists in the first place. I think that WHA is a series that works really well with this fluffy, slice-of-life, "filler episode" atmosphere -- and it's because the core series is so amazing, and has so much important stuff to say with so much incredible worldbuilding on top, that a casual, down-to-earth side-series like this works so well.
I love how proud Olly and Qifrey are of their daughters and how the girls always take the lessons they learn, both with magic and cooking, to heart. They're such earnest students and such good kids. Ugh, I love all the characters in this so much. I think I will definitely revisit this series in the futrue because it was an incredibly fun, cozy read... and I wouldn't mind 5 more volumes!! Kodansha, please take notes!!!
08/04/2025 4 ⭐ I'm glad I read this after volume 6 because I wouldn't have had a clue who one of the side characters was, but other than that, I really enjoyed this volume! It's such a light and fast read!
These kitchen volumes just keep getting better! I loved that the girls cooked for their teachers this time, showing off some of the recipes they learned. And there is a darling bonus chapter featuring Qifrey and Olly as children (we get to see where their late night cooking sessions started). There are lots of fun made up ingredients like starchovies and fuzzbergines, and Qifrey always knows exactly what to do with them to not only make them delicious but kid-friendly.
Absolutely loved this entire spin-off series. The recipes sound lovely and I love how they've been integrated within the magical world of the main series with fun made-up names for the animals and vegetables they use. The domestic setting of the atelier and their day-to-day life being presented through meals was such a wholesome and cozy thing to explore and they feel more like a big happy family than ever.
This volume was nice because there was character growth, cute character interactions, and overall more elements and complexity than most of the previous volumes. I love that we got to spend time with more than just the main 6 characters and that the recipes directly affected everyone and their relation to food.👏
Always magical, delicious, and fun, the fifth book in the spinoff kitchen series was a scrumptious delight. Each one is an entertaining mix of learning more about the girls, their teachers, and the world where they live.
