Olympic gold medalist, X-Games legend and world champion Logan Martin shares his inspiring journey to the top of the BMX freestyle podium – the art of flight and the lessons of gravity, the pursuit of perfection and the pull of family, the sacrifices required and the simple joys of a backyard session. One of the top storylines from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics was the brigade of bandits from Australia throwing down at the freestyle park for the inaugural action-sports events – in particular the young gun from Logan City, Queensland, who took the gold medal off the table before his competitors knew what had happened. But there’s been nothing easy about Logan’s ascent to the top. His journey began at twelve when his family moved a block away from the local skate park – a charged gathering place for drop-ins and drop-outs, a culture crucible, and a place to test your skills in front of stunned peers and naysayers alike. And it wouldn’t be long before Logan was vaulting himself onto ever-larger stages, in front of the eyes of the world.
What an inspiring read! Journey to Gold recounts Logan Martin's story from humble beginnings to Olympic champion.
I didn't know much about BMX Freestyle before reading this book (even after watching Logan take out Gold in Tokyo) however, this was a great read- not only providing a great insight into his life journey, but this biography also gives readers an understanding of the demanding and rewarding career of BMX freestyle which didn't have much exposure in Australia prior to Logan becoming a household name overnight.
I also loved this read because it gave great detail of Logan's mental strength and determination. Very inspiring and there are diffently lessons learnt that I would love to apply in my own life.
I remember meeting Logan at The Village back in 2016. I never realised just how much he'd overcome and achieved by this point, let alone now. Written from a down to earth perspective, Logan is a great ambassador to not only Aussies, but young people worldwide.
