After Sakurako’s outburst of intention, Kasumi is left to ponder the idea of love. As the series comes to a close, we get to see everybody growing up, but will they find true happiness after all this time?
Despite the very bait-y cover art for this volume, the actual answer is the obvious one. One, in fact, that has been obvious since the very start of the series and makes this ending feel just fine rather than dithering on making a choice.
And the answer is, of course, that said happiness was there the entire time.
Through its various characters, the manga quietly examines the Sakurako and Kasumi relationship in both dialogue and through portraying a variety of other relationships that aren’t quite the traditional mould, although there is one of those too.
And it’s not quite yuri bait because, well, for one, there are female romantic relationships in this story already (and a hetero one too!). Sakurako and Kasumi have always been together and want to stay together forever. If they don’t put a bigger name on it or express it any other way? That’s fine for them.
While I wouldn’t put such lofty intentions on a 4-koma, you can definitely read Kasumi as somewhere on the asexual spectrum. There are hints that she’s learning more about her attraction to Sakurako, but it’s growing very, very slowly.
Otherwise, this was pretty much the same as any other volume and I mean that as a compliment. It may not have the bark-out-loud moments of, say, Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun, but it is consistently amusing and sometimes very funny (Kasumi buying a giant coffee thermos and then filling it with miso soup really made me laugh).
And while its release may have felt inexorably slow, it’s also a triumph worth celebrating that it came out for ten years straight, was consistently chill and slice-of-life, and actually aged its characters up in real time. We don’t often get the privilege and it was an enjoyable one.
I don’t love the arc featuring Kasumi’s annoying new coworker, sadly, but at least it’s brief. And if you don’t like slice-of-life, well, I wouldn’t show up for just about anything else. It’s got a vibe that took me a while to get into and isn’t for everybody, but once I got into it I really liked.
And bless the final volume that has lots of heart, lots of fun, and also manages to check in with pretty much every single cast member on the way out the door. That visit back to the dorm might be a bit indulgent, but if there was ever a time for indulgence, this is it.
Overall I had a great time with this series, thick as these volumes could get at times. I know I liked it because when I finished this up I was genuinely sad that I wouldn’t get to check in with these goofs in a year and see what they’d been up to.
But we know they’ll be up to it together, and that’s probably enough.
5 stars - series as a whole maybe warrants more of a 4, but this does such a great job of providing some closure while reassuring that things will be just fine, even if we never get to see it. A very satisfying conclusion.

i really enjoyed this series! it’s slice of life and doesn’t have very much drama, and i enjoyed that. it was definitely feel-good and it was a nice escape for me. i love the character dynamic, and it was funny watching sakurako slowly get more and more bold and “weird” towards kisumi, who clearly enjoyed her antics, despite her outward blase appearance. i liked how well the two foiled each other and i enjoyed watching their relationship develop overtime. i totally understand the decision they made not to label their relationship, though i do wish they had decided to officially start dating in the end. still, it was obvious that both girls felt strongly that the other was their life partner, and the intimate moments they shared were even sweeter through that lens. maybe in five more years they’ll get married, though i could see them being unlabeled life partners forever… overall this was so sweet and my favorite yuri at the moment!!

4 stars. Ten volumes and Sakurako and Kasumi have been together for years at this point. They’re 24-25 years old by the end! We met them when they were in high school. It’s crazy to think about. They are definitely together but they just choose to not label their relationship which annoys me but it works well for them. This was actually a good ending and I liked how even all of the side characters got their stories wrapped up as well. This series frustrated me a lot but I am glad that I stuck with it in the end.

I'm not so much sure this was an 'ending' as a 'I've decided to end here' by the author, but it doesn't really matter - it's a chilled out volume, nothing too much happened... and they essentially decided not to put a label on their relationship, which I did quite like. There are several pairs though. It's cute, fluffy, and without much substance.
