I’ve just finished this in under 2 days and loved it. It’s a very personal story but so relatable as I’ve shared many of the same United experiences with my dad and my own children. Be warned though, I cried more than once.
This book is very special and definitely gave me a tear in my eye. My husband knows the author of this book & when he told me about the premise, I knew I wanted to read it. Haven't a clue about football, but how he talks about sharing the experience with his dad & later his son is very poignant. This represented the UK for Eurovisionathon.
Bought this after reading part of it in the United We Stand fanzine, it resonated as my dad had dementia before he passed away, and we always watched or listened to United games and had the phone call debrief afterwards. Really well written, the relationship with his dad was very relatable and I enjoyed how the story was told. It made me laugh and cry in different parts, highly recommend.
This book beautifully describes the emotional moments and happy memories shared between Simon and his late father. Simon does a fantastic job of detailing the experiences that thousands of us can relate to up and down the country, whether you are a football fan or not.
I finished it in 2 days. Incredibly moving. Obviously you don’t have to be a Manchester United fan, that should go without saying, but tribalism can be blinding. Such a beautiful, yet harrowing story. Lloyd is incredibly candid and, as someone who saw both grandfathers suffer with dementia and alzheimers, does a great job in conveying how it affected the people around his dad. Fantastic read.
