4.5* I got a lot out of this one - although i’ve read a few investing books now, i feel like this one contained some unique information that i hadn’t read about before and has really helped grow my knowledge.
The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is now. Probably the most important takeaway for me from this.
This was the first book about investing and finance I’ve ever read and it is very good for beginners. They essentially break down the important aspects and what to expect, key terms etc, mixed in with some anecdotes from sharesies users at the end of each chapter.
Easy to read.
At times would be annoyingly repetitive by saying things nearly every chapter it felt like 1 along the lines of - there’s always risk whenever you invest, and whilst the stock market has always risen over time that isn’t means to say it is certainly going to continue - and whilst good advice, after reading that the first two or three times we got the picture.
Also provides brief insight into what sharesies is and the people who founded it.
Solid introduction to investing. Nothing crazy complicated. This guide gives a clear understanding of diversification, risk tolerance and good investment strategies.
Only downside was there were a few repetitive points throughout (usually about long term investing and "dollar cost averaging"). To be fair though this was a very important concept.
While this is another basic introduction, there is a bit more terminology definition and application that I've heard but didn't know. It's helpful to be aware of fees and currency conversion for the Aussie dollar (considering how everything is basically double 😂)
