If you read the author notes in other volumes, you’d have learned that Neko Yotsuba, the illustrator and writer, diverged from the light novels. Even the author didn’t know how it would end.
This tale began strongly with the first two volumes, but then the story scope became larger (Vol.3) and larger (Vol.4) and larger (Vol.5). New major characters were introduced, solutions where pulled out of a hat, and then it ended. But it sure was pretty.
I believe I will reread this manga again from beginning to end in one sitting one day. Certainly, the skill of the artist is phenomenal. Her ornamental details are lovely, and her rendering of the human form is stunning. I would love to re-experience that skill. Perhaps if I reread in a binge, the story will make more sense as well without the months and months between volumes that I originally experienced. As it is now, however, the ending felt rushed because there were simply too many strings to tie into neat bows. Oh, but what lovely bows.
Much as I wanted an ending where Leticiel is permanently reunited with Nao, her father, and their loved ones, I'm inching my way closer to the liking-this-literature territory, even though what I ended with in reading this series wasn't something I'd ever expect in a thousand years. The only reason I'm giving this book a 4/5 stars rating is because Leticiel got to be reunited with Nao one last time. It broke my heart when they said a temporary farewell, but I didn't see the point in the elemental characters, who were too vast to recall, other than the lady of light and Dame of darkness. Will I be a return reader to Neko Yotsuba's work? No. Will I watch an anime adaptation of this? No way in any realm of existence. Did I like this series, overall? Hard no. Did I like the ancient kingdom of Regenerose? Yes! But that's just about all I liked in this entire series...
A complicated mess of a story. Glad it's over, at least. Probably would've been better to binge the series all at once versus reading the volumes as they came out, because—especially by this volume—it was a lot of "who is this person again...?" Then again, like I said this story is a convoluted mess, so I'm not sure if that would've helped all that much.
In this final installment of Her Royal Highness seems to be Angry, everybody gets to fight. Sometimes you’re not really sure why, but the artwork sure is pretty.
What a weird ass story. I wanted to read about Letty and Drossell, but it just became about Nao and Sala? I don't care about them! And their reasoning for fighting was ridiculous. You destroyed these worlds over that??? Cashaal? Dude, stfu. His death was so quick too. Like, what was the point???
Binged the series in one night and it was so good at first! The world building excellent! However the last two volumes were rushed I know it's not the artist fault as it was axed last minute :/
I felt like the first four books gave you a lot more build, more romance, and overall, even though the story was wrapped up and a little pretty bow that explained everything it felt completely rushed, and I felt like I didn’t get to know more about the characters that I learned to love so much. Also, the bodies thing at the end makes sense like who is this girl that she got her body from? know there’s a lot of gaps and I didn’t feel satisfied with the ending of the story had a lot of potential but didn’t deliver.
Terrible series. First volume started really good and gripped you into the story. Second volume started good then ended up going somewhere else. Third volume dragged and felt like it would never end. Fourth volume was a massive plot dump trying to make up progress in the story but it did not make any sense. Also, something weird happened here with the art and writing it even kind of seemed borderline yaoi for no reason. Fifth volume another info dump and throws the story in a giant pile of dung. I don't know what the series was about by the end.
The art is gorgeous, however the plot is strange. None of the main couples end up together, not that that really matters. And most of the main characters are possessed by other characters, or travelled from other worlds. So it all comes to a head in this volume and is disappointing with anti-climatic although positive ending. I would let this final volume stop you from reading the rest of the series, but would choose to stop at volume 4 or 3.
