The new book from author of The Barefoot Investor, the #1 all-time Australian bestseller
If you want the kids in your life to be good with money, hand them this book.
Teaching kids about money isn't easy. So let Scott Pape, the Barefoot Investor, do it for you!
His books have sold millions of copies and counting ... and now he's written a guide book you can hand straight to KIDS!
No, seriously: this is one book kids will WANT to read.
Scott takes them on an epic, page-turning money ADVENTURE - with fun projects, inspiring stories from 45 kids, rewards and real-life stickers.
It's easily the most unique finance book ever written. After all, how many books about money have Slime Queens, TikTok stars and dogs pooping on the page?
Kids will roll up their sleeves, get their hands dirty, and learn the value of a buck the old-fashioned way.
Over six action-packed steps, Scott teaches kids:
Why they should help out around the house for free How to set up their own money buckets How to SAVE for (and get) anything they want (that their parents approve of) How to turbocharge their savings by running their own mini business Why they should use their GIVE bucket to make a real difference to other people (kindness counts!) How to kick-start a lifetime of compound interest by investing with as little as $5 As the parent, you'll call all the shots, of course - but you won't have to lift a finger. The kids will do all the work (and they'll love it!). You'll be blown away by what they achieve.
This book holds the secret to raising smart, resilient, kind and hard-working kids who will grow up knowing how to manage their money. Give this book to every kid you know. It's the best investment you can make in their future.
Scott Pape is an author and radio commentator who lives in Melbourne, Australia. He is best known through his online persona, the Barefoot Investor, which is also the name of a business show he hosts.
I 100% recommend this book to children or even adults who are seeking opportunities to learn something about finance, shares, and making a business. With real experiences for children around the same age as you. I also liked the funny stories that the author had shared about him trying to make money as a kid. I do really think that this book will give anyone a head start on knowledge about money. Overall a lot of helpful stories, information, and advice. A very interesting read.
My 11-year-old feels like this book is targeting his spend thrift ways and there are things here I do not totally agree with (for one, we do not pay for chores in our household). BUT here are the things I do really like (and will badger my son): 1. Invest in shares. 2. Create/run projects and earmark at least 10% of profit to a cause/charity. (These 2 items also serve as notes to myself.)
Mixing info, method, simple case studies & stickers! My pre-order arrived from Australia Post yesterday. The colourful books is over 200 pages long with lots of white space to make it an easy read with space to right mixing in a bit of a workbook flavour. Best suited to an indepedent reader so they can work through it on their own. This one is best as a hardcopy version. Simple case studies support the lessons based on real children who do chores or have mini-businesses and their epic money adventures. Real children who've implemented their Barefoot buckets - 'Splurge', 'Give' and 'Save'. The 'Grow' bucket and compound interest are also introduced - a valuable lesson to get early in life. The book walks through these steps for Barefoot Kids: 1. Earn some money 2. Stash your cash 3. Be a Barefoot Boss (includes business ideas) 4. Get what you want 5. Make someone smile 6. Grow your money. Highly recommended. I wish I knew this stuff early on in life. Financial literacy is a key life skill.
Having already read two books by Scott Pape and been on his mailing list for years, I accepted his pre-publication offer of two copies of Barefoot Kids at a special price. But I hadn't read it first. I like 90% of what this book says, but because of the other 10% I won't rush into giving it to kids in my life. I recommend that adults borrow this one from a library and if you agree with it all, then buy one for the kids in your life.
A brilliantly written book aimed at children learning how to get smart around money. It helps them learn to save money, invest money and even spend it. There's very few steps needed. When setting it up, they get 4 jars, they set up jobs, they earn money. Each pay day, they put some money in each jar, BUT money MUST go in to every jar. Kids get ownership, they can watch their money grow and they can learn how nice it is to do something for others as well.
Any easy and fun read, a good money guide for kids. Highly recommend this book for kids of any age. There is something here for everyone - the stickers and suggestions would keep kids amused and learning at the same time. It's really a clever book to teach kids about earning, spending, saving and growing their money no matter where they live.
Really solid book - love how it breaks down money stuff in a way kids can get. Just wish there was something like this for slightly older teens too. Felt like my 16-year-old was just a little outside the target age, but still got value from it. Would 100% get a “Barefoot Young Adults” version if one ever comes out.
Great for kids to read… like me… but it shows how you can earn money quick (and even from your parents). But overall this is a good book, definitely will get young minds who want to earn money, and it shows it’s not so hard, a kid with dyslexia did it by selling rulers. So who knows maybe you or you kid, nephew, grandkid, anyone will be the next Elon Musk.
I’d give this book 10 stars if I could! If you want to educate your kids about money, buy them a copy of this book. It’s everything you wish you’d known when you were younger. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Thank you Scott!
Read this out loud with my son and we both enjoyed it. Easy to follow, well set out. Stickers were a hit. Not sure if every kid needs their own business but great for kids to learn about shares, compound interest. 2023 pop sugar reading challenge- book from independent bookstore
I listened to this so I can go over it with my kids as they grow up. The biggest problem I have with this book is it didn’t exist when I was younger! Some really straight forward steps to get kids interested in not just saving money, but becoming entrepreneurs and sharing their wealth.
Good lay book for kids. Particularly the mature entrepreneurial ones you’ll get a head start from it. Wish it was given to me as a youngster. Great relatable language as usual by Scott.
