In this book, readers are informed that Angels are beings who exist in many cultures, religions, and beliefs. Some believe they are spirits of deceased people, while others believe they are simply symbols of grace. They are typically described as beautiful human-like beings with radiant skin and wings who descend to Earth to bestow their grace upon mortals. The word angel comes from the Latin word angelus, meaning “messenger.”
Silvia Hill provides further background information stating that the oldest myths of angels date back to the Mesopotamian and East Asian cultures. These cultures created mythical beings to interpret the world and guide humans. These myths involved angels who carried prayers from Earth to heaven and the gods who relied on them for messages sent by humans to the heavens. The belief in angels became more widespread during the Jewish exile to Babylon when priests and scribes began interpreting the Mesopotamian stories and incorporating them into their religion.
The author states that the Hindu religion considers angels as beings who exist in the natural world and provide guidance to humans. Angels in Hinduism are considered to be highly evolved spirits who have existed since the creation of the universe but never incarnated as physical beings. They are believed to possess multiple aspects that can be altered at any time. Zoroastrianism believes in a good and evil god and in the existence of angels, although they are not believed to be divine beings. In fact, Zoroastrians believe that there are three separate groups of angels: 1. Amesha Spentas, who govern goodness 2. Yazatas, who govern the elements 3. Daevas, who are described as evil spirits
Additionally, Silvia discusses the Angelic Hierarchy, which is listed below: 1. The Seraphim - The highest rank in the angelic hierarchy is that of the Seraphim. They are considered to be the closest angels to God and therefore receive his love and light. They are considered to be the guardians of the throne of God. Traditionally, they have six wings and two sets of eyes. 2. The Cherubim - The next highest rank after the Seraphim is that of the Cherubim. The Cherubim are described as having four faces and four wings. They are also said to have two arms and a breastplate embellished with precious stones. The cherubim appear to be the same as the seraphim but have just two pairs of wings and one pair of arms. The Cherubim are known as protectors who guard God’s throne in heaven. They are also said to be the guardians of God’s will on Earth. In fact, they are even mentioned in the Old Testament concerning Adam and Eve. When they left their Garden home, they were stationed outside Eden with a flaming sword to guard the path to the tree of life. The Cherubim are a symbol of innocence and purity, and because of this, many people like to put them in their artwork or religious homes so that they can connect with these qualities within themselves. 3. The Thrones - The next rank after the Cherubim is that of the Thrones. They are said to be a flaming wheel with a thousand eyes, and God sits in the center of this wheel. It is believed that this is the same wheel described in the book of Ezekiel. It states, “Above it (the throne) were the wheels of fire, and all four wheels had the same likeness. The appearance of the wheels was like a wheel in the middle of a wheel”. These wheels have eyes made of fire, and they are not just there to be decorative but to represent the presence of God and his will on Earth. They stay nearest to God and remain in his presence always. 4. The Dominions - This rank of angels are the keepers of divine order, think middle administration. They are in charge of the universe’s rules, laws, and regulations and hence are concerned with ensuring that all humans follow these laws. They also oversee all human activity, which is why they can be considered a task force investigating social misconduct. This order of angels is also known as Hashmallim and is seen as responsible for earthquakes, storms, and other natural disasters. However, it is implied that they get these orders from God, who sends them to do his will. The leader of this group is the angel of mercy, Zadkiel. 5. The Virtues - With a form like orbs of light, these angels are charged with the maintenance of nature. Throughout history, the Virtues have been known as healers and can be thought of as responsible for ensuring that nature functions optimally. They bestow miracles upon those who deserve it, as instructed by the higher-ranking angels. In the Bible, it was said that these angels were present when Jesus ascended into heaven. 6. The Powers - The Powers are variously described as a floating mass or cloud of fire or possessing the form of a winged bull. They are the closest ranks to humanity and, thus, have certain charges related to human affairs. They look over justice in society by ensuring everyone understands what laws and rules apply to them. They are respons
I know many people feel that people who are into science don't tend to believe in angels and the like. But to be honest, science teaches us to keep our minds open...
It teaches us that light can be a particle or a wave, that Schrodinger's cat is both dead and alive, that the sun is a star, that animals can evolve, that auras are for real (the body's electromagnetic field) and that matter can convert into energy.
What's more, science is also about finding things out for yourself, running your own tests and experiments to discover what's true for you.
I was interested in learning about archangels because I have an Archangel oracle deck (it's kinda like a tarot deck for those of you who don't already know).
This book taught me that certain archangels are portrayed in several different religions, which I found intriguing.
I was hoping to get a better feel for particular archangels and what each of them are meant to stand for and help with, but to be honest I was left feeling more confused. I struggled to get my head around them representing and helping with so many different things, and how they can help so many people simultaneously. There were also contradictions and overlaps in the various sections, and the number of pages in the book was rather thin on the ground too.
That said, the book did do a good job of making working with angels seem like something that's easily accessible, if you care to try it.
The reason I haven't actually tried any of the exercises in it yet, is because I just don't feel the need to at the moment.
I can see why this book has received both and bad reviews. I don't regret my time spent reading it, but I didn't find the clarity I was hoping for.
Silvia Hill did a wonderful job on the research and compiling the Book. There are historical facts leading you to more modern beliefs. The book is interesting. There are simple techniques to follow and prayers to call on the Archangels for guidance and help if needed.
