A gripping story of two brothers who lost their lives on the same night. It was a night we thought we'd never forget. It was graduation-and, like most teens, we were looking forward to celebrating with our friends. We knew it was the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Some of us were heading off to college. Others were moving away. We had made some amazing friends and even better memories. While we were sitting around reminiscing and laughing, someone pulled out a bottle of pills. Oxy. In a brief moment, we made One Choice that we can never take back. How were we to know this would be our last night? When you're a teenager, you don't think that One Choice can end it all. But it can. We are here to tell you that your choice matters. Here is our story.
This was a hard book to read. Solely because it was heartbreaking. This is such an important book for every parent or frankly any adult who is around teens, and every teen as well. I loved the stories of the boys growing up. I was sobbing by the time the letters from their friends showed up. Becky Savage I am amazed by your strength!
Incredible and incredibly sad story. Very eye opening, engaging and educational. Just left a lot to be desired in terms of recounting the aftermath. Why couldn’t police and other witnesses help find more answers? How much does it take to do this type of damage? So many unanswered questions.
This is a must read for all! Teaching consequences to our actions of any age is very needed! My heart breaks for the Savage family; God uses her willingness to help others. This is a fast paced book, easy to read. Highly recommend!
Read this in one afternoon. If you are a parent, teacher, aunt, uncle, friend, coach, neighbor…if you know a teen you must read this book. It is a true story, written by a mom who lost 2 of her sons one night. The chapters of getting to know the boys make you understand these are two really good kids who just made #one choice that rocked the world of so many. I appreciate her honesty in revealing her process for getting to the place where she is not blaming, she is helping. Please read and pass along the story.
Becky, thank you. I now feel like I know Jack and Nick just enough to understand how real and tragic their loss in this world was. The work that you, Sarah and others are doing through the 525 Foundation are opening eyes and minds, which is vital in this fight against misuse, abuse and addiction. Thank you for your tireless work on education and prevention.
I cannot recommend this book enough for parents and children. Being the mom of 2 boys (now men), I know the worry that comes along with raising them to not succumb to drugs and alcohol. The author lost her 2 older boys in the same night to an accidental overdose. This is her heart wrenching account of how it all happened, the start of the 525 Foundation and her ongoing journey to educate families about the dangers of making that One Choice.
powerful story of how lives change with #onechoice
