In the second book of the Ascent of the Witch Trilogy, Mel Morgan once again finds herself thrust into the fight of her life, a life that for the last fifteen years has been tranquil. She and Mike have made a wonderful life for themselves and their fourteen-year-old daughter, Katy.
Mel has finally come to terms with being a witch and has accepted the fact that she has certain powers. Until someone from their past returns and brings forth an ancient Scottish curse. Then Mel’s powers are put to the test as she must save not only herself, but the two people she loves most.
Growing up, Becca loved reading Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Anne Rice, paving the way for her affinity of the horror genre. She wrote her debut novel, Maiden of Belial many years ago. After recently discovering Paranormal Romance, she decided that Maiden of Belial was a perfect fit for that genre and has since completed two more books in the Ascent of the Witch Trilogy. When Becca isn’t writing, she enjoys reading, playing with her grandchildren, gardening and spending time with her husband, John.
Gosh, that was tummy clenching, sinking tummy, churning tummy exciting! And that's just the prologue! It intensifies as the plot is revealed. OMG! A parent's worse nightmare moment occurs too! See? Tummy clenching, heck, tummy everything! And so my poor tummy had to endure a whole multitude of various states of disquiet, spurring me on to devour the book!
My goodness do I love all the characters! Mel and Mike have put the dreadful past behind them, or so they thought...but when dreams and visions start plaging Mel and her daughter Katy, know that's it's far from over! And my word does it get entangled! A death of a dear friend starts a course of action that quickly spirals out of control! Issie is probably my favourite, her warmth, her kindness and her determination is all encompassing, she makes ME feel special and loved. We got to meet Katy, who is set to be a strong, sassy and force to be reckoned with, I'm looking forward to following
The mystery spin round and round like a spider's web, getting larger at each turn, the ultimate black widow waiting for it's pray in the centre of it. But with two spiders, both equally vile, both equally evil, the odds are slimmer than ever! Why can't dead people stay dead? Ah, right, selling one's soul to evil makes one almost invincible. Geez, those we want dead, aren't and those we don't are! That was another gut clenching sinking moment. I loved how realistic it all is, although fantasy, reactions, reasonings and actions are true to life, minus the magic of course! Grab a comfy chair, make sure your feet are planted firmly on the ground lest you be swept away as I was, especially with the ending!
Holy macaroni that cliffhanger so short after that faithfull encounter yeah nay nay i am not okay here!
I have absolutely loved this story way waaaay more then the first book. i feel the author got more confidence!
And oh my pancakes the story is a little predictable at times but many times its like you go one path only to see the second and then to learn the first was the correct one! What a talented author i absolutely adored the story and all the drama and troubles that got thrown their way.
Many times i laughed like a crazed demented hyena and other times i nearly sobbed my heart out, like the last chapter!
I went into this book thinking it was going to be another 4 star read but high hopes and only took me like 4hours of solid reading to finish over 80% of the book it is that good. Ive got lots of questions and only 1 big hope for the 3rd book and i pray to Hades that that question or hope will be answered!.
Maybe the prologe to the 3rd book holds some answers? (Have not read that yet)
It is 14 years later, and Mike, Mel, and their daughter Katy, live many hours away from Creek’s Hollow. Katy and Mel have been practicing their powers. Katy has steadily dreamed of a man with a top hat every year on her birthday. Mel, herself, has been having visions of the past and future that do not make sense. Doc, unknowingly, has put his life in danger but will be useful in the battle to come. When Katy is in danger, Mike, Mel, and Izzie will have to once again, come together to fight off old enemies. This time, things are much different, and a new plan has ensued. Many new surprises, more secrets revealed, and the cost of this reunion will be too high…but what will the finale of this book bring about? Death or rebirth? Dance of the Witches is a dance that will have deadly consequences. Read the exciting and thrilling continued journey to discover the next chapter of their story~ Becca Kabelis once again manages to weave an intriguing tale that leads up to a huge finale…this time even more deadly secrets make themselves known; more players are involved, and the ending…WOW…it brought tears running down my cheeks and hope that things will change in the finale~ Why Becca, why?
Firstly I need to say that the story is absolutely amazing but the ending of this second book has left me flabbergasted. As a matter of fact I was so involved into its reading that when I realized how it ended, I just wanted to cry. In the second book the characters have matured but I think that the heroine needs to be more sure of herself. The author has been very good at writing such an intricate story; everything fits perfectly as the story unraveled in front of me . That being said and without leaving any hints I highly recommend this book but I strongly advice the reading of the first book of the series otherwise you won’t experience the thrill of the story.
This book gives us the return of Mel Morgan, her husband, Mike Kinney of now 15 years, and their daughter Katy, 14 years old. Mel has accepted her powers and the fact she is a witch, and Katy also has some powers. She and her mother train together. When Mel and Mike have to go to Creek's Hollow unexpectedly for a funeral, Katy stays with her grandparents. The day of the funeral, Katy gets kidnapped! Thus begins a rollercoaster of twists, turns, and emotions. Ms Kabelis's use of world-building, character building and story telling are amazing for a second book author. This is the second book in the Ascent of the Witch trilogy. I was given an advance copy in return for my honest review.

Fantastic continuation of Book 1! We get some interesting back stories of the main character’s lineages, giving insight into how the current events got their start. Mel has grown in her powers and acceptance of who she is, as a witch. Her daughter, Katy also turns out to share her powerful magic. This story is action packed and that cliffhanger is painful! Thankfully, I see that book three will be out soon! Can’t wait to see what happens next!!
Oh my god what a wonderful book this was. Even better than the first book. And can't wait for book 3. Already got the option to beta read it. But rather wait until the Advanced reader copy comes. Because I can't manage to give feedback in 2 weeks. I'm really looking forward to the ending piece of this series!
What a well written story! Love to read about witches and this fills the bill with quirky and exciting happenings with the witch Emery and a demon. A curse is a curse even if it lasts 17 years and the Kinny family was in the middle. Mel and daughter Katy were witches and Emery wanted to get Katy for herself. Nail biting conclusion but oh no now what? Great reading.
I loved this second book in the Ascent of the Witches series. I loved the flashbacks of Katy growing up so we could get a feel for the relationship and have a little background. Then, the main story begins. Did Mel and Mike make some...not so smart...decisions? Absolutely! However, that's easy to say being removed from the situation. I think being in their situation, any one of us might have made those same errors. I love Katy as a character, she might be my favorite. I love how she kept her stuff together, and always kept thinking, kept planning. Then, that cliffhanger at the end...whooee! I cannot wait for the third book to see how it all ends up resolving!
We are back for more with Mel, Mike, Issie, Doc, and now Katy Bell! The adventure continues with unexpected returns from book 1. Again, well written with incredible descriptions of characters and scenery; and a nicely flowing storyline that keeps you intrigued to continue reading in one sitting. What a cliffhanger of an ending, too. I sincerely hope there is some kind of turnaround to the teary end!
We jump forward 14 years, and I like how Becca did that, with the first few chapters. Mike and Mel are living a very happy ever after.. Until they get bad news and things spiral from that.. They really go through it. I won't say too much.. You should read it. The book is a roller coaster of emotions, written very well. The story flows well and you won't want to put it down. I do highly recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book,in return for a honest review.

In this book we get to watch Mels journey in learning more about her background and come to terms with her powers. When her daughter is kidnapped she will do anything to get her back including being captured herself.
The past is indeed finding its way back to Mel and Mike in more way than one. Get ready for one exciting read!!! Especially as we now get their daughter Katy in the mix 😉✨. Good vs evil, generational trauma, family, love, pain and intrigue grace these pages. The evil they thought gone has returned again in a new form. Those they love are in danger once more. No longer the innocent with no clue about this world, Mel and Mike are determined to keep those they love safe. I loved seeing familiar friends like Issie, and seeing how much Mel has grown since we left her. Never doubt the fierce love of a parent-whether they have magic or not 😉. Such a powerful story that will have you feeling ALL the feels. I was truly gut punched a few times. I can't wait to see what happens next!! Bring on book three!
If you have read book 1 you will love book 2 which takes place 15 years later.
Mel and Mikes story continues and they now have a teenage daughter.
The writing is described with warmth and humour. Truth be told I enjoyed this much more than book 1. Some questions are answered from book1 and some questions remain for book 3.
The story ends on a cliffhanger and I am looking forward to book 3.
