Lily Harlem A Scandalous Seduction

Why have I put off reading Lily Harlem? I'm seriously kicking myself, because I really, truly enjoyed this. It's sensual, funny, a tease, and hugely entertaining!

Lady Elizabeth "Beth" Burghley and Thomas "Tom" Kilead, Duke of Farrington, both suffer from not correcting a case of mistaken identity. I really like the story unfolds and how they came to be acquainted before Beth is sandbagged into going to Scotland with him. 😂❤️🥵

He swallowed. His throat was tight. It had been so long since he’d enjoyed the feel of a woman’s soft flesh next to his. Too long. Maybe that was why he was spellbound.
-- Thomas Kilead, Duke of Farrington

I do wish there was more of this couple once they found the beginning of their HEA. It's hard to say goodbye while wanting, needing so much more.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrator is Mary Phillips, who is an absolute delight to listen to. Be it breathless, annoyed, from a distance, or ready to rock someone's world, she pulls it all off and had me feeling the excitement, exasperation, and more as the pages flew by. I look forward to listening to another of her narrations.

I rarely give out a full, unadulterated 5-star rating for narration, especially for a single narrator, but Mary earned it!

I loved the book. I enjoyed the fact that I was entertained by some the most spicy, sizzling, erotic play from the main characters. I liked that Beth and Tom started the relationship out slow taking the time to become familiar with each other. I like that the writer allowed for the two main characters to spend the time together without other people around offering up what they should do under this issue or that issue. The story is a good one. I was very impressed with the happy ending.

Lovely

I loved this book. The intensity of Tom and how he knew wht he wanted and went after it. Beth was wonderful and not your normal debutante. I loved that this was so different than the typical historical romance.

Sweet Scandal

I love this book! I don't usually read historical romance, but when I do, it's by Lily Harlem. This is a cute, low drama, Regency era romance. Fans of Bridgerton will love this story. Part of the book takes place in England, and part is in Scotland. There's a good mix of antique rules and modern rule breaking, so it's just enough for me to enjoy the "scandal.". Of course, the seduction is the best part.

Beth and Tom don't know who the other person is at the beginning. They make assumptions based on first impressions. My first impression was that the scandal would be revealed and all of the hoity toity people of The Ton would be cruel to Beth. However, that's not the main reason for the drama. These two are fun to watch as they stumble into each other, flirt, exchange pleasantries, etc. I enjoyed their banter, as well as their shared interest in art: Tom is a poet and Beth is a painter.

I especially like how Beth is stubborn enough to wait for the right man. In a time where women are basically a man's possession, she refuses to belong to just anyone. Tom is also pretty head strong and looking for the right woman, so I like his character too.

I want to know more about Grace, Tom's younger sister. If she gets her own story, then I will definitely read it.

Loved This!
Super romantic and hot in all the right places.
I loved the almost magical romantic feel which was woven around Tom and Elizabeth/Beth as their story unfolded. It made it a delightfully entertaining story and I enjoyed all of it.

I listened to the audiobook version of this novel, and I have to say, Mary Phillips absolutely nailed it! Her narration was funny, expressive, and full of life, adding so much charm and depth to the story. She really brought the characters to life and made the experience thoroughly enjoyable.

As for the story, Lady Elizabeth Burghley is a strong-willed, artistic heroine who sometimes tested my patience, but in a way that made her feel real. Tom, the rugged Scottish gamekeeper with a creative soul, was instantly lovable, patient, kind, and magnetic. Their chemistry was electric, and their moments together were full of passion and heart.

The twists in the story kept things interesting, and I found myself rooting for them even when things got complicated. It's a beautifully written historical romance with humor, desire, and just the right amount of tension. Definitely worth the listen, especially with a narrator like Mary Phillips at the helm!

Audiobook: This was my first experience with this author's work. I appreciated the settings as the story took place in England and in Scotland. I enjoyed how the characters met as they had no idea of each other's social standing and during historical times, one's social standing was very important. I liked Lady Elizabeth as she was willing to break some of society's rules. I was entertained by the ups and downs in Elizabeth's romantic path. There were several steamy scenes. Mary Phillips' narration was a pure joy to listen to as her voice was very expressive, and she brought the characters to life with her performance. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

I absolutely enjoyed this steamy regency story. There isn’t a better match than Beth and Tom!

“Truth be told, I not only found more inspiration than I thought possible, I also found the other half of my soul.”

This review is based on the audiobook, which was brilliantly narrated by Mary Phillips! She brought this story to life with ardour and spoke in a different voice for each character.

This is a fun and quick story of Beth (Lady Elizabeth) and Tom (Duke of Farrington). Beth is a painter trying to paint illustrations of the flowers in her home county. She loves to go on long walks with her paints and use her paints to capture the flowers to paper, hoping she will be able to get published when all done. Tom is a published poet who has writers block some has travelled down from his home in Scotland to stay at a friends isolated old gamekeepers lodge to see if a change of scenery and some piece and quiet can inspire him.
Elizabeth’s parents are in London so she continues to walk and paint to occupy her days whilst they are away. Her mother has planned a ball upon their return with the hope that Elizabeth may find a suitor.
Tom and Elizabeth innocently encounter each other and both make assumptions as to who the other is. Tom assumes Beth is a girl from the village and Beth assumes he is a gamekeeper. Tom offers to help direct Beth to a couple of her sought after flowers. They get along, can talk freely, both creative people so have much in common and enjoy the other’s company. Tom also starts to write again. With the increasing time spent together they become close and kiss. This freaks Beth out somewhat as she knows her parents, and society, would never condone a relationship with a gamekeeper so Beth avoids her walks.
Tom is forlorn as he realises he is very attracted to Beth and she has also been his muse for his writing. He goes to see his friend and discloses some of what has occurred. His friend tries to distract and cheer him by inviting him to a local ball. But as you can guess, both Tom and Beth are at the ball as their more formal selves and their true selves are revealed. This utterly shocks Beth and sees it as a deception - which perhaps is understandable for a fleeting moment, but she is just as much responsible as Tom.
Tom cannot bear to be parted from Beth so tries again with a very creative plan (I cannot say how realistic to the time this would be) and negotiates and Beth, with her maid as chaperon, travels with Tom to Scotland to provide support to his younger sister to help prepare her for her first season.

This is an entertaining smoothly written tale, with a very fluid easy to read writing style. The characters develop from innocent misunderstandings to deeper emotions. There is attraction, passion and some appropriate steam. I also enjoyed Sarah, Beth’s made and confidante. Tom is very likeable and sincere. Beth is written as a young innocent woman of this time who has been raised by society’s rules that she needs to marry well but torn by her attractions and feelings. She is a little frustrating with her naivety at times, but I warmed to her as the story progressed.
