Water is a collection of poetry, watercolors, and pen-and-ink drawings from poet and author Susan Brind Morrow. Water is the organizing concept; it is also the urtext of the artistic process, the window between the natural world and our representations of it. The interplay between the media creates a unique reading experience that will appeal to readers of poetry and art books. Morrow’s award-winning work on Egyptian poetry and religious texts manifests here in transcriptions of hieroglyphs and accompanying ink drawings. Water is a unique ars poetica for one of our most singular contemporary American voices.
A wonderful poetic study into the natural world and its people who tread upon it. Notes at the end show a delightful history of research that went into this collection. 'Color in the Bahamas' is a personal favorite. Highly recommend; it is art that builds on top of art.
Absolutely loved this exquisite and truly original meditation on water and the natural world. It’s filled with sublime poetry, drawings and even transcriptions of hieroglyphics. One of my favorites is “The Soul Becomes a Waterbird and Dances in the Sky.” Highly recommend!
A Zen retreat in a book! These beautiful poems and drawings about water and nature offer a much needed and much welcome break from our high-tech world.
