All Rhett wants to do it go back to Penn, but old and new enemies await him on his journey. Magic still runs the world, and he’s going to need to get stronger if he wants to survive. Thankfully, he’s got a few good women at his side to help him along the way. Rhett might not know it yet, but even a thirdborn can be the difference between victory and defeat.

This book is a pretty decent continuation of the story, but is sadly in need of heavy editing.

The MC encounters a succubus that attempts to take him, but a Sidhe saves his bacon. He ends up bonding with her, which adds her to his harem, and gives him a massive boost in casting ability. She helps him learn to use his new power, and thus win a duel he has no normal business winning. From there, it's back to his hometown across the ocean. During the trip, he finally has his former thief join the harem.

Once getting home, there is no rest for the wicked, as his brother has disappeared, and his king sends him to find out why. His paid for invention of the gun help save the day as he ends up in pitched battles at the head of an army division. This are getting pretty crazy by the end of the book.

While the world building and plot are really good, the editing is pretty bad. The author tends to screw up homonyms with alarming frequency. At one point, the Sidhe illusions a wagon full of coins to look like beets, but the author spells it as "beats", and uses the word more than a half dozen times in a very short window, all spelled wrong. The continued misspelling of geas as gea is also annoying.

With better editing, this is a 5 star book.

Rhett Allen a third born fights to make a name for himself on his own terms .

Rhett Allen thirdborn barely graduates from the academy with honors when his father uses his own daughter as a pawn for the Kings own selfish use to form a alliance with Old World in Europe through a political marriage . Rhett chaperones his sister to the Old World up to her wedding day . Getting their he gets singled out and put under watch night and day even though he hasn't done anything to deserve it he just got their . It seems the duchy is against this marriage an doing anything she can to prevent it from happening which sets a long line of a events to spiral out of control setting Rhett on a path that changes he's life forever . recommend reading excellent series .

The first book was pretty fun. Showing how crafty or MC is and introducing the world and setting up the later story. THIS book is crazy. Our MC comes into his own and starts making moves that build on what was started in the first book. We meet a ton of new people and get to experience the growth and struggle someone who had very little power has when their power and reach are suddenly much larger. While the first books setup the world and our characters origins this one sets up the global conflict that is to come and gives us another look at the mess that is war. The next book is likely going to be the whole world falling into conflict. And I am really looking forward to it.

Yep

War, war, war. The Civil War revisited, sort of... It is North versus South, but the reasons, the allies, magic, technology and more. Well written and captivating. For Rhett Allen, over the course of the two books, has gone from the cold fire pit, to sticking the wood, to setting the fire, riding the frying pan, to falling I to a firestorm and it's going to get a lot, lot worse. Wars in the Old and New Worlds, than Europe (Old) New (USA) and and the land of the Fey. The Courts of Summer and Autumn are about to kick off a third war. Fun times ahead and I am looking forward to the next book.

Astonishingly Great Stuff

The first book ws good, but honestly this book is actually great. Absolutely one of the best entries in the entire genre.

Unlike many books in this genre, this series isn't just a fun sexy adventure. It actually has plot! And worldbuilding! The interesting threads from the first book are continued and as expected this is the book where several of those threads pay off and pull the MC from his underdog position into the powerhouse that we all kinda expected he would be.

A Gripping Read

Rehtt wants to continue to advance his power, riches, and standing. He becomes involved with another woman, A Sidhe, who helps him gain power. How will his return home go when he is reunited with his father? Will the forecast of world war continue unabated? The setting is an amalgamation mashup of eras that contain aspects of the civil war and world war I in an alternative setting that includes magic and aristocratic rule. I like the action, humor, military strategy/tactics, and love. I look forward to another book.

better than the first

Ahhhh!!!! Hey, editors are real people!

Seriously though, this book is better than the first. Just… please proof read.
Mettle instead of metal.
Your vs you’re vs yore.
Personal vs personnel.
Vile vs vial.
There’s more to that list, but it isn’t totally immersion-crushing.

Good second chapter of Rhett's adventures

Rhett continues to grow more powerful with the help of his women as well as making more enemies along the way.
Eagerly waiting for the next chapter although a good editor who knows what a spell checker is would make the story flow better without the numerous typos.

Glad I kept going

The first book dragged quite a bit and I struggled. I set it down and came back to it later. Boy, am I glad I did. The author has really come up with a great world with interesting magic logic based on alternate world history. This book is well paced and intense. I will be chomping at the bit to get to the next one.

This one I liked

When I read the first book, I found it slow and and drawn out. Didn't enjoy it very much. This reads much like Courts and Cabals, draws you in keeps the action and pace moving, making want to continue reading it

Now I have to sit here and wait lord knows how long for the third installment. A great book, well written, great twist and turns, my only complaint is it wasn’t long enough.

really good book

I really enjoyed the second book in the series. The main character really got a power up. But still thinks like a third born. I cannot wait to pick up the next book in this series.
