After the disappearance of nearly half the world’s population, Caden Johnson is convinced God totally sucks. In fact, He can take His holiness and shove off. The world is crawling with mutant animals and invisible monsters—who all enjoy human being with a side of fries. And what is God doing? Watching it burn.
But when Caden hears his little sister might be alive—and stuck on the other side of the world—he decides things are going to change. Dragging his brother along, and armed with nothing but a baseball bat, he sets off to keep what’s left of his family alive.
In a gang he hardly trusts, and enemies at every turn, Caden must face the Cosmic Bully he’s learned to hate all his life… Or die trying.
A unique blend of genres, The Final Remnant is teen fantasy and apocalyptic Christian fiction at its best.
The story was great, however, the writer/editor missed several typos in the book. The writer also has a tendency to quote people but not tell you who is speaking so you keep re-reading the same section trying to figure out whose talking. Its frustrating. But i kept reading because I saw the potential in the story. I hope the second book gets better with regards to my above critiques. I still think its worth reading if you are patient :)
It's worth it to hang in there with this story. It's far more "science-fictiony" than I am accustomed to reading but I hung in there because of the solid work Terry James did with the "Road to Revelation" series. I was 94% of the way through the book (stats courtesy of Kindle) before things started to make sense to me and I began to identify with the ideas and themes of the characters and the plot. The sequel is due out next month and I am eagerly awaiting it.
This was really really hard to get into and stick with for a LONG time. In fact, at one point, I was so confused, I had to go check who the author was???
It was so dark, and weird! So no doubt, you are wondering ( if you read this) why did I give it a 5?
Because it did finally... finally ... finally begin to click, and make sense, and become a 'real' tribulation end times novel!
Well of course, it was from that from the beginning. Only it demonstrated just how much more dark and evil, the tribulation might be!
We know it will be the worst time ever, but the demonic influence, the anger and hatred of God, the confusion of the rapture, the false 'religion, the anti-Christ etc. All are taken to a deeper, darker level in this novel!!!
But the true gospel message does come thru, but it takes at least 3/4 of the way thru, but it is worth it...
and of course it is a series, so it was just starting to get some real light...and yes, I will read the 2nd novel in the series.
But be forewarned there is a lot of violence, and demons, and the words ( he swore, but not any actual swear words).
One of the authors is one of the main people that runs Rapture Ready.
I would use caution even with some teens reading this, because of the violence, and demonic activity ( which we know from scripture will play a pretty big role in the tribulation, but still....) I almost stop reading it a few times, but I am the sort that once I start a novel, it has to be super apostate for me to stop reading. This was just very dark, or perhaps a better description would be, maybe more realistic than even most tribulation novels. They all have to be pretty dark, because the Bible is pretty clear about it being so. But wow...I guess, you could say the author did a great job, showing how evil it will be. Thankfully, when they get around to starting revealing the true gospel, it is worth it, I thought.
Finding inner peace through external and internal chaos
The vanishing has caused chaos to spread like soft butter on warm bread. Death is the common constant . Facing the loss of family and blaming yourself is one thing but facing the reality that there are two invisible opposing sides in the war in which you are the pawns . Searching for just one family member keeps Camden going though he believes he has caused the death of the rest of his family. Being able to see those terrifying creatures and not be killed makes him an attractive slave for those fighting to stay alive Love Terry James way of writing! What happens next drives you on! Enjoy !
A captivating mix of two genres that just go perfectly together
Caleb is fighting for His life and it seems that everything else left in the world He knows is fighting him.
In a brilliant weaving of two different genres , you will find yourself invested from the first chapter . This book will not disappoint and will awaken a desire to learn more about the realities around us that we cannot see.
Use this book as part of your reading group because its too good to read alone .
The Final Remnant: A Post Apocalyptic Christian Fantasy
This book is full of fantasy, but it’s such a good way to explain the facts. The end times are presented to be full of all manner of demons and genetically altered creatures. Caden hates God, after all, He is responsible for everyone he loves getting killed. After meeting a Jewish family, he starts feeling peace. Will his trip across the Sinai bring him True Peace?
I was definitely a bit confused at first reading this but after the bumpy start I couldn’t stop reading! Love this book not a huge fan of the main character but I understand why he thinks like he does on some aspects
Great read for Christians and non Christians alike
This was a fascinating story and I can't wait to jump into the next book! While there were some glaring editing errors, it didn't really take away from staying in the story. I highlighted so much!
3.75!! Almost 4 stars, but there were a couple things that made me not completely love it. I think I’m going to love the series more as it progresses, though!
