Tangled Paths

Rate this book
“In a world full of limitless lives, of endless possibilities, I will always find you.” Sarah Mitchell always put family first. Now, freed from self-imposed exile in her hometown, she's ready to jump back on the academic path she sacrificed for others three years ago. Her history studies taught her that you can't recreate the past, so it's time to open her mind and perhaps her heart to the future.

Richard Norton has it money, power, and status. But the twenty-year path that took him to the top now sees him trapped in the company that got him there. And with a failed marriage behind him, it seems he's not destined to add love to his portfolio. Until he meets Sarah. Could she be the most important acquisition of his life?

Caught in the crossfire of his parents' marriage, Calum MacFarlane is carrying wounds so deep they may never heal. Seeking refuge on the mountain paths of his Scottish homeland has carried him through, and now an army career beckons. When Sarah's world collides with his, will it provide a final chance to leave his troubled past behind?

It's her time to choose a path. Or is time going to choose for her? When Sarah faces a life defined by loss, will time's tangled paths deliver her a second chance at happiness?

Tangled Paths is time travel romance with a twist. If you were obsessed by Outlander’s time-crossed love-triangle or intrigued by the premise of parallel lives in Maybe In Another Life , then this second book in the Tangled in Time series will deliver. It can also be read as a satisfying standalone.

This is a new adult, dual point of view romance novel, in an international setting, with elements of age gap, forced proximity, instant connection and finding soulmates.

Caroline Corvin is a writer of romance fiction. Before publishing her first novel, Caroline had a career in education, from classroom teacher of lively little people, to principal of a large primary school. Mother of fur kids—dogs, cats and vertically challenged horses—she’s sometimes described as animal obsessed. But she’s made room in her life for her other magnificent obsessions: travel, genealogy, history, some stargazing and, of course, books.

Raised under the shadow of a volcano in provincial New Zealand, she now lives on the edge of Auckland, the City of Sails with stunning beaches and good coffee (and surrounded by more volcanoes, fortunately extinct).

Caroline didn’t set out to write romance, but her characters took control the moment she let them loose on the page, reminding her that finding happy ever afters are the reason she’s one of those people who sometimes reads the last page first—just to be safe.

A time altering truly great read.
This is my third book of Caroline’s that I’ve read and each one has me totally enthralled and left me pondering the outcome.
Where is it going to go? How is this going to pan out?
This book is no exception.
A wonderful thought provoking love story of one woman’s relationship (at different times) with two men.

I immersed myself so fully into this book, loving the unusual storyline and all the characters that I did not want it to end.
At one point when tragedy struck it even had me crying.
Well worth the read.

I’m looking forward to reading more of Caroline’s work.
I received a copy of this novel for my honest review.

This splendid novel, situated in New Zealand seamlessly blends everyday experiences and activities with the distant rumble of forces that are beyond our control, as we follow the life of Sarah Mitchell, a 20 something Ph.D candidate in history as well as a loyal daughter helping her father run his dairy farm after the death of Sarah's mother. She is a strong, impetuous but also thoughtful woman, passionate about her chosen career, but also brimming over with the energy of youth, the desire to experience life and, of course, love. In a Cinderella-like scene, she attends a party in a gorgeous red gown borrowed from her best friend's sister's closet, a woman we barely meet but comes across as shallow and greedy. But her attendance at this party changes her life forever. What if she'd decided not to go?
Ms. Corvin begins with these smaller choices that we've all asked ourselves. The 'what ifs?' that we ponder and that make us wonder about who's in control here.
As the story evolves and Sarah grows into a mature woman who has experienced both tragedy, joy and true love, Ms. Corvin widens the central metaphor to include the possibility of alternate lives and loves. And, because we know we're in the hands of a confident author, she expands locations to Rome, Venice, Hong Kong and, especially Scotland, which she describes so beautifully that I wanted to get on a plane and go. And it's in Sarah's experience of Scotland that the novel finds its deepest revelations, its ancient cairns and artifacts, its no-nonsense style of living in tune with nature, brings to full blossom the idea of love as a fated course, or maybe not, tragedy as unavoidable, or maybe not, the unseen lives that walk beside us, or maybe not. She juggles these questions with professional aplomb and never lost me for a moment.

I am grateful to the author for giving me opportunity to read the book.

So the book explores the phases of relationships along with witnessing the changes in people. Time is truly the testament of relationship. Sometimes the one we like isn’t for us, sometimes things get in our way and sometimes we want to see light and fall into darkness and that makes us hopeless

Melanie and Sarah were good friends and she was helping her as Claire, Melanie’s sister was shifting. This follows the odyssey of Sarah and Richard. Richard has a failed marriage and was too engrossed in work as Richard and Victoria were trapped in the woven web of marriage but eventually they found a way to escape from it. Despite the failed marriage, they have two daughters and Sarah is a fresh out graduate. Their paths got entwined but destiny had something else in attic for them. And their relationship ended due to loss of the string that was connecting them and their tie got broken, Sarah met Callum, he had troubled past and the wounds are too deep to be healed but as soon as they cross each other’s path, something happens that connects them both. Perhaps they build a trust and understanding and none of them were harbouring secrets. And two of them finding each other is a miracle so he was finding a place in Scottish mountains and Sarah was finding love, their path got entwined but are they meant to be or destiny have the most unexpected and bad things in attic for Sarah?

This is such a unique take on the time travelling trope! It’s more time altering to me. Dual timelines and you’re not always sure which one you want to win out in the end. You root for each couple in different ways and different times while reading.
A fresh take and each book in the series has the same time travel “base” to it, but with its own twist to make it a story all their own!
Sarah and Richard and Sarah and Callum have beautiful chemistry and stories on their own and at times you love and hate them together. It’s always a question of is this happening at the right time or is it just a matter of time to get what you should always have had? I loved going on the journey with Sarah as she discovers the answer that is right for her.
Really enjoyed reading it and will love reading the next books to come I’m sure!

Tangled Paths

I looooooove this series. Each book is a stand alone but intertwined and is each different in their own ways. Each one is absolutely fantastic!!

Sarah has had a rough life. When she meets Callum she might be able to find a life she loves. But with both of them having baggage they might not let themselves be happy.

This is the second book in the series but the third book I’ve read and definitely my favorite so far!!! I can’t wait to read the rest of them!

I’ve never read anything by this author before, but stumbled upon a link to receive and advanced reader copy of this book that sounded very intriguing. And I wasn’t wrong!
This is a very well written, exciting story!
I do have to admit that I was a little confused, jumping from the first chapter into the rest of the story, but it made perfect sense once part 2 began. As I stated earlier, very well crafted.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

This story ripped my heart out. I cried so hard on and off throughout. It covered a very heart-wrenching tragedy and had me on an emotional rollercoaster. With that being said, I absolutely loved Sarah. She captured my heart. The twists of unexpected events kept me turning the pages late into the late evening while past my bedtime, and the steamy scenes were very satisfying. My favorite book of the series so far!

A great love story with 3 main characters, Sarah, Richard and Calum whose lives are definitely tangled through time. An interesting concept more in the line of multiple universes than time. Very enjoyable and well worth the read.
