Straight off thank you for the ARC @a_bookish_lass I’m very much looking forward to this romp into your new fantasy world!

It has a maaaap! I love a map it brings a sense of reality to a new book world for me, it allows me to navigate myself through the world and story. So yeah I love a map as a visual aide to help me immerse fully.

In we go:

“Once upon a time…”

Oooh girl she be dark. This is right up my street, the fire, the gore, the horror and the ravens.

The mingled lore in this story is simply wonderful. An inclusion of Odin, Frigg, dryads, nymphs and even a Manticore or two.

A princess bride moment has me all a-flutter
“As you wish”

This was great! Think of all the childhood tales you were told, they inexplicably found themselves woven into the magic of this story.

There were tears, laughs and revenge. I love love loved this story. This author has such a lovely writing style that I’m sucked in and completely enveloped by this world.

This new twist on Snow White by Michaella is awesome & I heartily recommend this read!

Michaella has written my all time favorite fairy tale retelling with this story - hands down. ***Check your triggers at the door because this baby gets dark***

Snow White is one princess I was never a fan of growing up, but in this tale I love her to no end. With every tragedy, every trauma and brutal torture this young woman prevails. Her strength, determination and (above all) compassion and love burn truths that make themselves known.

Cassian is her soulmate and so much more. He proves his love and loyalty to her with the sacrifices, hardships and trainings he goes through. His inner beast, Aren, is wise soul with a talent of making me smile and laugh at the most unexpected times and I adore him for that.

First off - I am not a historical romance fan…like at all. But the way Michaella has written this? In my honest opinion, it’s pure perfection and if more historical romances were written like hers I would be reading them all the time. This talented author included characters from different fairy tales, and myths, and incorporated them effortlessly while weaving a tale that I refused to put down. I love how the story unfolded and didn’t want to see it come to an end. I adore how she made me love the side characters as much as the main ones.

Michaella’s talents shine like a beacon within these pages. I could gush over the brilliance of this story for months and know I will be revisiting it soon. It’s dark and heartbreaking but makes the light at the end shine that much brighter. Definitely one I will not hesitate to recommend in the future and has earned its rightful place as my all time favorite read ever.

I've always loved fairytales and Snow White has always been a favorite of mine. Shattered Glass has taken that story and twisted it into a dark, yet beautiful piece. Snow White is not a damsel in distress and takes her destiny by the horns.

This book is a fantasy retelling and it is pretty plot heavy. Just because it is plot heavy doesn't mean there isn't spice🌶🌶. There is and it is 🥵🥵🥵 I was shocked at some of the twists that were written into this story and they put Cassian and Snow through a lot of trials before they are granted their HEA.

I really enjoyed seeing many characters from classic fairytales and lore in Shattered Glass. It leaves it open for this world to be expanded on and I hope we do get more!!

“𝔐𝔦𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯, 𝔪𝔦𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯, 𝔬𝔫 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔴𝔞𝔩𝔩, 𝔴𝔥𝔬 𝔦𝔰 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔣𝔞𝔦𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔱 𝔬𝔣 𝔱𝔥𝔢𝔪 𝔞𝔩𝔩?”

Shattered Glass by Michaella Dieter is a Dark Fantasy/PNR retelling of Snow White. Her method of storytelling made it feel like I was watching a movie while reading this book.

From the first page to the very last, I was transported into the majestical kingdom of Valdeŕan. She created such an intriguing world that I wished it was an actual place however, I probably would never want to leave.

I've read plenty of fairytale retellings, but this was my first fantasy/PNR romance.
I loved it, and I've got my fingers crossed hoping the author does a few spinoffs.

The storyline closely matches the Snow White we all know and love, with an evil queen, a poisonous apple, and a magical kiss. But the author also makes it uniquely her own. There are cameos from other beloved characters (Robin Hood, Hook, Beast), tons of spicy content, and the hero can shift into a manticore.

If you're a fantasy/PNR fan, love a great retelling, or just like your romance with a side of darkness, I highly recommend reading this book.

Well, this is a Very Dark version of Snow White that I never knew I wanted but damn glad I have it now. So many characters you know from your past come to visit and in a whole new dark light. If this was a movie, this version would not be suitable for children for it would be the movie of their nightmares! That makes a great book for me! So much dark goodness in this story!

After reading the Vengeance series I was super excited to read a fairytale retelling from the mind of Michaella Dieter. Shattered Glass takes the story of Snow White and draws upon other fairytales, myths and legends including cameos from the likes of Beast, Captain Hook, and Robin Hood.

This is a multi-POV book with the prologue and epilogue written in the third person, as it should be in all good fairy tales. Snow White aside, we hear from Cassian (the Huntsman’s son) and Morana (the evil queen). The story travels linearly, starting with Morana thinking of her family history and watching a young Snow through the mirror as her life turns dark. Only months later Morana’s darkness becomes apparent as she enters the castle and becomes stepmother to Snow. We watch Snow share her doubts about her stepmother, moving along to the horrors she faces while still at home in the castle.

Cassian has his own story to follow. Aged 17, instead of rescuing Snow from her stepmother’s clutches he’s sent by his father to the Beast of Granton, in order to train and learn to aid Snow to defeat Morana. Over the years he learns his own family history and quests to the Forbidden Isle to seek the oracle that will guide him on his way back to Snow. Meanwhile, the Huntsman’s final act is to steal Snow away from the castle and leave her in the care of the seven dwarves, allowing her to recover and heal, and finally train as a warrior destined to defeat the evil queen.

I really enjoyed reading Dieter’s approach to the classic story, especially the way other stories were woven into both the supporting characters and the situations they found themselves in. At 377 pages long the book was sizeable but didn’t feel that way. In fact, I wanted more depth to both the storyline and the characters’ inner thoughts and emotions. Cassian’s training and subsequent quest deserved more attention, as did the period of Snow’s recovery and their finally coming together. Beyond the first chapter Morana’s backstory was mostly told by the gods and it was suggested that she had twisted events in her mind. I would love to read that same story from her point of view and see how her thought process changed over time. She is very much a villain and not even a relatable one at that, but her journey into darkness would make an incredible story.

The book has its dark moments but these are mainly confined to the beginning chapters and don’t come close to the darkness of the Vengeance series. The fairytale nature of the story means that the evil queen’s cannibalism and human sacrifice aren’t conveyed in the shocking way they would be with a book set in the modern day.

I’m hoping Dieter writes more within this world, especially for The Beast or Hook and the Lost Boys. There’s so much potential for both darkness and happily ever afters.

WOW! What a unique, creative and utterly twisted retelling of Snow White. Not only was it about Snow White but there were elements and characters from all kinds of different fairytales woven within this imaginative story that every time someone or something new showed up I was shocked and loving every moment of it.

Snow White’s incredibly tragic journey to becoming queen was brutal, vicious and gut wrenching. But her strength and resiliency to fight back had me cheering her on every step of the way.

Cassian, her brave young protector, will do anything to protect and save his princess from her tragic life. But fate has other things in store for him first and he must go through his own trials and tribulations before he can be all that Snow needs him to be.

I thought this was an outstanding retelling that is perfect for all of us dark romance lovers. It was filled with suspense, action, gore, violence, blood, anger, passion and pain. And the twists and turns the story takes kept me riveted to my seat and gasping at some of the very shocking moments that happened right before my eyes. It was an intense and emotional rollercoaster ride that I never wanted to end.

I loved every deliciously dark and twisted moment of this story!

Seriously Awesome Snow White Retelling ❤️❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review

OMG my poor heart is so tattered and torn to pieces and very clumsily restored. This book was….the best dang Snow White retelling I have read to date. OMG Michaella absolutely wowed me with her spin of the tale. And when I say I hope she does more retelling spin-offs of side characters in this I am being so serious, begging for more actually!!!

It wasn’t as dark as her usual books nor was it as hot and heavy but what it was….was absolute perfection with just the right amount of darkness and steam. Snow White and Cassian were the perfect pair in every way. Cassian grew up by Snow’s side as her guardian and her protector, when tragedy strikes and they are separated for far too long, walls are built and feelings of betrayal and regret set in. When they are once again reunited well let’s just say things get intense in every way. The journeys and adventures Cassian and Snow White face and experience when they are apart really added to their character growth and to who they became, I loved it. And when they both and their kingdom get their HEA its chef’s kiss phenomenal.

With this retelling you get bits of the original with a mix of a lil darkness, a bunch of Norse and Egyptian Gods, random fellow fairy tale characters, that I’m dying to get their retelling of, and an emotional rollercoaster you won’t mind riding. I cried so many times but also laughed and raged just as much. Do be aware of TW’s the horrors that Snow has to endure growing up are extremely heartbreaking. This story was definitely well written and had the most amazing character line up!! Hands down my favorite read of 2023 so far! Highly recommend it!!

This Snow White retelling incorporates mythology and paranormal fantasy, all interwoven to create a memorable tale. The writing is lush with world building, Magic, creatures, and a brilliantly evil villain.

Our H/h go through terrible ordeals, trials and adventures to come into their power. These characters stayed with me long after I’d finished.

MD is fast becoming an emerging force in Dark romance. Her stories have mature themes and content- please check the warnings.

Read if you enjoy:

-Paranormal historical fantasy
-Friends to lovers
-protective Hero/bada*s Heroine
-some spicy moments 🌶️🌶️
-shifters
-Nordic mythology

Shattered Glass by Michaella Dieter is a paranormal/fantasy romance. This story is a stand alone, told in multi POV’s, and has a HEA.

This author is new to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect with a dark and taboo fairy-tale retelling featuring Snow White, but I was pleasantly surprised and I couldn’t put the book down.

The plot had so many twists and turn and It had me rooting for the heroine throughout the whole book. The beginning of the book was hard to read, but the journey the story took me through was worth it. The author takes some liberties in the retelling and there were a couple of “she did not just go there” moments, I loved it.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal romance. Go to the authors website to read about the triggers in this story.

WHOA! 🔥🔥🔥

This is unlike any other Snow White retelling you’ll ever read! Be sure to check the TWs before you dive in, otherwise get ready for a deliciously dark, twisted, and magical version of a classic fairytale!

This book has all the key elements I’ve grown to love and expect from this author: excellent characters, great plot, twists you don’t see coming, and fantastic writing. I love seeing the relationship build between Snow and Cassian and the brilliant development of both characters. And the world created for this story is amazing and well detailed!

I love this book and highly recommend it if you’re looking for something different, something better than your typical fairytale retelling. Outstanding book!

Michaella did it again! 😁 🤗 She is the Queen of dark romance. Be warned her Snow White retelling is delicious dark, slow burn, twisted and full of triggers.

The worldbuilding is amazing - she managed to weave different fairy tale characters and mythology elements into the story seamlessly.

I loved Snow White 💜 She goes through literally hell and back before she reclaims her power and becomes the Queen 👑 she was always meant to be.

Now, I could hep but fall in love with Cassian, who went though his own trials and tribulations before he got his Princess. He is dominant alpha male, super protective of his mate and ready to burn the world for her.

I have never hated any fictional character as much as I hated the Evil Queen in Shattered Glass, and I prayed for her demise to be slow and painful 🙈 🤣 All I’m going to say I’m happy with how her story ended 😁 🤩

This story isnt for the faint hearted, but if you enjoy reading dark fairy tale retellings with lots of action 🤺 🗡, twists and turns, blood 🩸 torture, revenge and spice 🌶🌶🌶 then get your hands 🤚 on this baby. You won't be disappointed. Highly recommended!

I've been a bit slumpy this year, determined to read books by indie authors I've known about for ages but not picked up. Unfortunately, I'm such a mood reader, which can be a pain when you're trying to tackle the books already in your Kindle. 🤣

Like I said, I've been a bit slumpy. Life has been draining this year, I've had writing projects of my own, and finding time for reading has been tricky. I started this book a while ago, paused around 30%, tried some others, paused most of them... That's been my reading year, and I know it's a 'me thing', not the books. Sometimes you need to pause and come back to things when your head's in the right place, and that's not the books fault.

Anyway, I decided to pick this one up again this week and everything fell into place. I was once again finding opportunities to read, which is what I crave in a book.

This is a fairytale retelling of Snow White which name-dropped practically every other fairytale going with some Norse mythology thrown in for good measure! In some ways, I wondered if there was too much, because some explanations were added at the end to wrap things up from the past and explain why things were the way they were.

However, to bring all these different pieces together takes one hell of an imagination and it was really well written. You could visualise everything in this story.

All in all, I loved Cassian after he grew up and the way he was with Snow when they reconnected. Snow was strong. She'd been affected and altered by her past, but her light still shone through.

Is it wrong that I wanted to see Aren get some action beyond cuddles, a horn rub and tail play? 🤣

The ending was a true fairytale ending, as it should be, which was very satisfying.❤️

Hope is rapidly dwindling, and I am hanging on by a precarious thread.
Soon there will be nothing left of me.

This book took a turn. A whole 180.
A Snow White recalling with Thor mythology with war and HEA.

I love the dynamic between Cassian and Sow White. I love that I got to see them grow together.:
"But after that time is up, I'm coming for you. We both know you're mine. We were written in the stars. You are my destiny and I am yours. So take the little time you have left. Hate me. Rage at me. Hit me if you feel the need to. But when your time is up, it's up.”
"Oh, and Snow?" She comes to a stop, head turned away.
"Remember, I'll always catch you."

Cassian has this being within him that acts so possessive of Snow White. Pretty much like thoses Werewolf Wattpad books.
I cannot breathe when he is nearby. I cannot breathe when he is
far.
The sun has returned.
Will I bask in its warmth, or burn to ash amongst its flames?

And he has a tail?! And horn?!

It was painful to read whenever SW was getting raped by her father and he was staying hidden by her side, not knowing what to do since they were both children.
This book is heavy. There are times I had to stopped reading.
Morgana… I hate this witch.

TW: rape; confinement; abuse; child neglecting; miscarriage/forced abortion.

📖My Thoughts📖

Retellings can be a hit or miss. There was just something about this one that gave me good vibes so I decided that I would reach out to the author and ask to be a part of the arc team after being a part of the street team for quite some time. I’m so glad I did! This was an amazing retelling of Snow White! I can’t even begin to describe how beautifully written this was. I can’t even imagine the amount of work and effort that went into writing this. This is far from a regular run of the mill retelling. It not only puts a huge twist on the story of Snow White, but also includes various characters from other well known tales such as Merlin, the Jolly Roger, Zeus, Thor and even references to The Princess Bride! To have such an imagination to put all these and more together in a book and have it turn out the way it did is pure talent. This is a dark fantasy tale and has several triggers, including but not limited to incest, abuse, murder and violence. It also includes some very descriptive intimate scenes. It’s told from multiple points of view which make it that much more intriguing. This was a really creative and interesting spin on a timeless tale. I really enjoyed it!
Thank you Michaella Dieter for the opportunity to read and review this profound piece of work. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Creative

There was so much happening in this book. Not only did the author weave her own version of this fairytale but she added in other myths and legends as well. Somehow it all worked cohesively and it was probably one of the most creative Snow White retellings I have read.

Please read the trigger warnings, it did get pretty dark at times but the HEA made up for everything.

I was engrossed with the story from start to finish. The creativity absolutely surprised me. I loved how the author included all of these different characters who continued to add to the richness of the story. It also (hopefully) will lead to this world being expended because I would love to see the tales this author can weave.

This was such a great dark and imaginative retelling of Snow White. I cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next.

I can't even!

This story was so good that I'd have read 60 books that detailed every single day it spans. I am OBSESSED and heartbroken that I didn't take it more slowly while reading, because now it's over.

This is one of those books that will suck you all of the way in and leave you at the end wondering what planet you're even on because you're so sure you weren't in your reading spot 5 minutes ago.

The little fairytale character cameos were everything I could possibly have wanted. The characters are so lovable and engaging that they felt like people I actually knew and loved. The spice is nicely spicey and THE PLOT! Gods the plot had me squirming with happiness. The little details were just perfection and I literally just can not say enough good things about this book.

Trigger warning ⚠️ this book contains subject matter of : rape, incest, forced abortion.
I love the spin on Snow White's story and how there was connections to other fairytales. It took me a bit to get into this book, as I first thought it was just the same as others. However, after a few chapters I was hooked and couldn't put it down.
The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because it's not my normal genre of romance, but I still enjoyed it.

FABULOUS!!

I love a retelling and this was amazing. Hooked from page 1!

Although this is a dark Snow White telling, I LOVED all the fairy tales weaved in, it made this an unforgettable read.

The pain and torture Snow White went through were just heartbreaking and the loyalty of Cassian was just everything.

Full of everything desired in a retelling and more - this is a fantastic read ❤️

A creative reimagining of the tale of Snow White. This story will take you on a journey filled with strength in the face of tragedy, a longing love story, leave you on the edge of your seat with an epic battle, and fill you with enjoyment as you encounter all the fun fairytale side characters woven into this adventure.

The thing I loved most about this book was the strength and resilience Snow displays throughout this whole story. Courageous in her quest to become queen and create a better life for her people. I absolutely love a strong heroine who is underestimated by everyone and with the aid of her “found family” over-delivers proving herself a worthy adversary.

Not quite as dark as some of Michaella’s other books but the plot is still loaded with some vile characters, violent assault and an enduring love that stands the test of time and circumstance. With that said, check your trigger warnings as the content is not suitable for all readers.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone who likes their fairytale retellings a bit on the darker side.
