This Must Be the Place: Following the Breadcrumbs of Your Past to Discover Your Purpose Today

Feeling a Bit Lost These Days? Here's Your Map Home

You want a life of purpose and meaning, but if there's a map to get you there, you haven't been able to find it.

Until now.

Your treasure map is closer than you think, and Jami Nato tucked it inside these pages. Your journey begins by looking at your past, and then following the breadcrumbs that God has left for you every step of the way.

Jami found her breadcrumbs in the rubble after her marriage fell apart. Downgraded from perfect Christian wife and mother to hot mess, she finally let go of what the world (and the church) said she should be and let God reforge her into a thriving, joyful woman living on purpose.

Moving seamlessly between the hilarious and the heartbreaking, Jami asks hard questions and shares what God has taught her through her own story--so you can step fully into yours. And while you shouldn't trust her with your laundry or houseplants, you can trust her to help you discover the unique calling God has for your life.

"Few people make me laugh like Jami Nato, but humor is not all that marks these pages. There's real gold in here. This Must Be the Place turns the light on for people to help them truly see their life, and for that reason alone, I'm all in."--LISA WHITTLE, bestselling author, speaker, and podcast host

Listened. Recommend the audio bc she reads it. Really enjoyed her stories and how she sees God's fingerprints, or breadcrumbs, in everything. Loved her thoughts on hospitality. She does have a chapter regarding infidelity and some language.

3.5: I thought this author was hilarious and a great storyteller. The downfall of the book was the format. Instead of just letting her tell her stories, it was put into a classic Christian book structure of learning something from each chapter and included deeper questions, etc. This really took away from the storytelling. Note to future editors, let this woman write! And tell her to cut down on the 'author's note' interruptions.

I had the pleasure of hearing Jami speak 10 years ago and I was immediately hooked on her style of storytelling- hilarious, honest, raw, truth filled, deep… and did I mention hilarious? Her book was that exactly. So many hysterical Jami Nato-isms mixed so seamlessly in with gospel centered charges, encouragements, and confessions. I didn’t want the book to end! Although I’m just a follower on her Instagram, I will always consider Jami a wise role model in her faith, parenting, marriage, and humility. I loved learning more about her upbringing and see how God prepared her in so many ways for the life she’s living today.

Entertaining, inspirational, hilarious, and very moving. Jami Nato is one of my favorite follows on Instagram, not only for her skits which always, always make me laugh out loud, but also for her theological insights and life perspective.

This book also had me laughing out loud—which was a little awkward since I was listening to it on a walk—and it brought me to tears a few times as well.

It did feel a little confusing to me with the way it jumped around in time, there was some strong language scattered throughout, and I had a few quibbles with the way a traumatic marriage betrayal was kind of sin-leveled to reach what seemed like an astonishingly quick forgiveness. I don’t know if that’s what happened, that’s just how it read to me since it was a little vague and scattered. My discomfort wasn’t with her experience specifically (it’s her story to experience and share however she sees it), but more with the way female Christian influencers in general seem to address infidelity/forgiveness/reconciliation in a hasty way that can inadvertently invalidate and put pressure on other survivors in similar situations. I’m only mentioning this as a trigger warning for anyone who may have experienced similar betrayal and been pressured to quickly forgive and reconcile “like Jesus.”

Overall, while this is a fun, quick, and encouraging book for anyone, it is also an invitation for women specifically to dive deeper into their personal stories and “follow the breadcrumbs” of wherever God is uniquely inviting them to live out their dreams from the fullest versions of themselves.

From following her on IG, I’ve always thought I could be best friends with Jami Nato- this book confirms that for me. a memoir-ish journey through Jami’s life talks a lot about the intersections of using your unique gifts in your unique season. As a fellow enneagram 7 who loves daydreaming and adventures, I related to a lot of her personality bents. She doesn’t skip over the suffering in her life (like infidelity in marriage and a differently-abled child) as things took different directions than she planned, but, instead, she shares what God taught her through those experiences. I laughed and I teared up (chalking that up to being 2 weeks post partum), and I enjoyed reading Jami’s story!

I’ve been friends with Jami Nato for over 12 years. Well, she doesn’t know we are friends, but I know her. I know her family. She is my friend. I’ve followed her blog and on instagram since I was in the throes of my early days of motherhood, and she has continually made me laugh, cry, and think.

This book was everything I wanted it to be. The audiobook was narrated BY Jami herself, which made it that much better. It was heartfelt, funny, and honest. I loved it so much that I went straight to Amazon to order a hard copy because I want to own it. I want to loan it out to others. And I will want to read it again.

Finished this audio book this morning and it was so encouraging. I’ve followed Jami on Instagram for years and felt connected to her by our mutual love of thrifting and story of coming back from the brink of divorce and desire to be used by God just as you are.
I loved listening to her tell her story and prayed as I listened that God would continue to refine the gifts He’s put inside me and give me “breadcrumbs” as Jami puts it as to what might be next for me as I enter my last year as “stay at home mom” being my main job.

I listened to the audiobook version which I love doing when it’s read by the author. I’ve followed Jami’s online writing for many years and have loved her authenticity, vulnerability and humor throughout. This book was all these things while also helping us as readers reflect on our own lives and experiences to see the purpose the Lord may be aiming us toward. I would recommend to anyone on a journey to find the space you were meant to fill, the purpose you seek. She doesn’t claim to have any of the answers but I found the questions asked to be helpful to spot some things that are easily overlooked. Loved the bonus chapter too!

For a Christian book, it felt a bit heavy on "being a dreamer" and a bit light on Scripture. That being said, Jami's faith and personal relationship with Christ shone through. It was encouraging to hear how God has worked in her life and be reminded that God is Sovereign and working, often in ways we can't see in the moment. This book also made me think about the beauty and importance of community, especially Christian community.

Hilarious and heartfelt. Gave me a lot to think about for my own journey and how God has provided. It rekindled hope that He will continue to do so, just not always in the ways we think.

A really fun read that I digested rather quickly. It’s meant to be read and reflected on as you finish each chapter but I found a lot of commonalities with Jami and her upbringing so I just wolfed the book down in one bite. She is funny and fun and would probably make a great neighbor. I want to go back and sit with this and think about some of the questions Jami poses and sit with some of my bread crumbs to see where they are leading me.
This book points to the fact that we are God’s workmanship and all of our lives point to glorifying Him with our dreams and what He leads us to do.

Not for everyone, but a lovely message about using the gifts God have you and honing in on those. Very great story telling! Didn’t agree with everything but loved the overall message.

I loved this book so much!! As my youngest is in his last year of preschool, it was the perfect book to help me think about what might be coming next. Jami Nato helps you look back at your life to see what you have always loved, been good at, dreamed about, have been drawn to and gives you the confidence to explore what God might have for you next.

I have recently gone through a big change in my life, and this book reminded me that I'm not crazy for wanting something more -- it was exactly what I needed. Each chapter stirs up lots of thought that make you stop and reflect, so it's one you'll want to read a little bit at a time...yet feel compelled to plow through since the author writes in such a humorous and conversational tone. This is a fantastic resource for reading alone, but also for coming together in small groups to build community.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

📚 This Must Be The Place by Jami Nato

“God is a God of details—and he’s in those daydream details—but he is also mysterious. Here’s the thing about daydreams: like breadcrumbs, they only show you part of the way, not the whole journey. God gives a glimpse so you know which direction to go, and then you start moving. That’s the beauty of it—breadcrumbs force you to rely on God. They bring you back to him because he is the one leaving the breadcrumbs. If we had the whole picture and knew all the answers, all the twists, all the turns, then we wouldn’t have to rely on him or find him.”

This was a quick read that acted as both a collection of life stories and interactive encouragement for dreaming big and remembering God’s work in your past. God has gifted Jami with entrepreneurial creative gifts and it was fun to see the origins of that in her life. ✖️🎉

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Elevator Pitch: Jami uses humor and stories to encourage women to reflect on the past to see where God has you today and respond to the dreams God has woven into your heart.

Themes: Christian living, Christian non-fiction, memoir, forgiveness, entrepreneur, dreams, hospitality, motherhood, marriage, funny stories

❗️: Disagreement with 1 Timothy 2:12

If I could give this book 10 stars, I absolutely would! Jami shares her life testimonies, beautifully balanced with humor, encouragement, honesty, application, and biblical truth. I loved the structure and theme of the book - following breadcrumbs in her (and your) life through stories and reflection. Her humor really landed for me, and I can’t remember another time that I fully teared up listening to an audiobook. Jami didn’t just write a self-help/memoir, she somehow wrote a book that felt like a chat with a friend, leaving you encouraged :,)

Honorable mention for the audiobook bonus chapter with the thrift story 👌🏼

“Generosity never sit still it keeps going.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is an nonfiction Christian living self-help style book. With a bit of memoir involved.

Jami uses real life experience to give advice on what she’s learned and how she’s found purpose and help in her life.

This was a short quick listen. I’m sure I heard an interview or a podcast where someone recommended this book and so I added it to my to be read list. It was fine. There was a in time in my life I really liked this style of book. It’s just not what I’m looking for in my reading life right now. But that’s not the author or the book’s fault really. I just thought it was OK

I loved the stories in this book! Heartwarming, funny, inspiring and sometimes bittersweet and sad, the stories will make you smile and at times want to cry. That is the journey called life and we use those markers to see where God took us and where He's leading us.

The last few years of my life have been a transition into new things and I often tell people I'm just following the breadcrumbs. He has also given me new things that are clearly tied to my past dreams and hopes! So I find it no coincidence that God led me to this book that speak about both.

Jami you are a talented writer, you remind me of Jen Lancaster. Keep it up!

Not the book I expected but definitely what I needed!
I have heard Jami speak and followed her on Insta so I knew it was going to be encouraging, full of love, very real, and funny!
I did not expect it to be so deep or to encourage the reader to dive deep.
This is a great book for women to actively step into God’s purpose. Sometimes we can get stuck in our own feelings, pitfalls and roadblocks. This book is a very practical guide to getting back on track or blazing a new trail!
Full of personal stories, journal prompts and encouragement this was a great book to start the new year on!
