It’s not that this was a bad book by any means—there are helpful thoughts and encouraging words. I don’t love how she talks about eating habits/being healthy. The theology is a bit shallow for my taste but she also seemed to be gearing it towards new Christians. I’m not sure the title and blurb on the back is appropriate for what she actually writes about in the book; I would’ve marketed it as simple moving from a worldly to a Christian life more so that breaking up with hurtful things. It’s a good book, just not for me!
this book changed my whole thinking on shame and regret of my past. the Lord uses every step of your life for good and your story matters. i’ve been battling not liking many past versions of myself and feeling shame over lots of past relationships/actions i have done and this book helped me understand that their is purpose in my brokenness. thank you jesus!
When I started the book, it was perfect for my season of life. Then I put it down and forgot to pick it back up (as you can see I’m reading like 10 books at once rn). Picked it back up this weekend, and it’s not aaaaas applicable to my current season. However, it is still a good read and I do recommend it.
What I loved the most about the book Break Up With What Broke You was how incredibly relatable it was. It has truly helped me to see how powerful it is to let go of your past, shame, and regret.
I truly felt God speaking to me through this book and I would highly recommend it to anyone that has been through something in their past, and would like encouragement for the future. I have struggled with so much shame and regret from my past and I feel like I am finally able to break free from that.
This would be a great book for a small group Bible study because I feel like so many women struggle with shame and regret. Christian is vulnerable, relatable and it is a beautifully written book. She shares from her heart how deeply God loves us and how He has an incredible plan for our future. She also has great tools for overcoming anxiety and comparison which I feel like so many of us struggle with.
I recognized myself in Christian’s vulnerable personal stories and struggles. She gently and lovingly guided me through the steps to break up with what broke me. I love that she encourages but backs it up with God’s truth and practical application of how to do this daily. There is so much freedom in breaking free. And in discovering how to do it – to break free of shame, anxiety, insecurity, and regret – and to get back to who God created us to be – flourishing, vibrant daughters of Christ. This book is for anyone who needs to break up and break through the things that hurt them. Discovering that our amazing God redeems and rewrites our story and frees us of the past. I would recommend this for my church's woman's ministry Bible Study group.
If you've ever struggled with regret about your past you need Christian's book! It is so encouraging and Christian beautifully points our pain back to Jesus. I loved her vulnerability in Chapter 2 and how she teaches us to acknowledge the pain, but leave it in the past. Her book was easy to read and a helpful resource for how to move forward if you struggle with the pains or sins of the past.
This book is a very honest account of what we all go through at some time in our life…when something so hard happens that you just find yourself utterly changed. An account of coming to healing, and how we all can find our own healing in Jesus! A must read!!!!
What I love about Break Up With What Broke You is the practical ways Christian offers to overcome regret and shame. It was very relatable to a lifetime of breakups that almost broke me.
I read most of it. If you’re a college age girl struggling with a break up read it. There is so much truth to it that you need to hear. Love the way she uses scripture. It just wasn’t for me where I’m at in life.
This is a good book, I don’t feel like it spoke to me personally at the season in my life, I do feel like it would be absolutely wonderful for younger women.
Lead by the title and description, I somehow totally missed the fact that the book is also a Christian book, and my relationships with Christian views are pretty strained. But I was pleasantly surprised by the book and author, who regained my belief in the possibility of Christian books being suitable for modern women and the current world.
Is this book for everyone? Still, not really, as it does have quite some excerpts from the Bible and their explanation, which didn't bother me much, personally, but those would be a distinguishing factor across other women's empowerment and self-help books for non-Christian readers. But you can see that I added "women's empowerment" here, and this is a winning point for this book and a reason for Christian women to choose it, as this book was like a breath of fresh air after being stuck in a dusty closet of old pushed-upon beliefs, with, finally, some realistic and feministic outlook on different life events and how to deal with them - break up with them, as, either way, it's not worth to be stuck.
Not my standard self-help book, but I enjoyed it, and would recommend it - 4 stars. For author, Christian Bevere, thank you for sharing your experiences and finding the right words! I found something to relate to on a deeply personal level although our experiences were different.
Thank you to NetGalley and Revell for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

MY REVIEW:
This book was just what I needed, my soul was craving a fresh start from the trauma of my past, a trauma I could not release, even though it caused me so much pain and regret.
This will be a book I return to again and again on my healing journey.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.
What I love about this book is that it feels like I'm having a conversation with a friend. Stories of faith are inspiring and thought provoking, and this book answered questions that I didn't even know I had. I admire Christian's courage in sharing her story and using it for God's glory. This book had me look at my life at a different angle, and to frame thing in a more positive light. If you are looking for encouragement, empowerment, and inspiration about your life and purpose, then this is the book for you!
I was super excited to see this book as I love the Beveres and have read books by others in the family, listened to teaching from them, etc. Christian did not disappoint! Her writing style is refreshingly candid and open, sharing kind insights and personal experience. Overall, it feels almost like having a cup of coffee with a friend or a comforting hug. Many thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC in return for my honest review.
I love this book. Shame is such a cuel deceiver. This books helps you with tools for battling shame and overcoming brokeness that comes from shame. With suggestions for how to overcome, to providing Godly scripture that backs up this battle, Christian has written a book that now has so many highlights (by me) to keep with me for encouragement, practical actions, and hope. "Struggles cannot steal our strength and pain cannot rob our purpose, but our fight can fuel a legacy."
I enjoyed this book the more I got into it. I do like how it is broken up into parts and how each chapter wraps back around to the main point. I thought the author used great language, meaning not simple words but you don’t have to have a PHD to understand it. I think most women will find this book helpful. We have all been through hard times, are going through hard times or know someone who is. The authors concept of “breaking up with what broke you” is very powerful.
I feel like this book will be an incredible tool and companion on many peoples journeys to healing and moving on from a past filled with mistakes and regrets. Christian shares with compassion and vulnerability, as she travels on the journey with you.
Thank you for the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Have read it twice. Essential read for any woman looking to heal from brokenness. Amazed by Christian's grasp of Biblical wisdom & ability to use her life experiences & perspective to encourage others along a path of healing. 👏
Very light and uplifting. I feel as though the message was wonderful, but the delivery could have been better. Some moments in the text reminded me of the feeling when a Dr says “just work less and reduce stress,” but then doesn’t explain how to go forth and successfully do that.
Absolutely amazing insight into rewriting your story. I love how she breaks down so many testimonies and ideas to how amazing God is. How truly redemptive God is and how he works through our brokenness.
4 Stars because it sometimes felt a little dragged out in some chapters.
This book was soooo amazing!! It really got me thinking and I am really hopeful about my future! Thank God for leading me to this book, it really helped me!!
