Witches. Spirits. Darkness.

Welcome to the Dumont Family.

Growing up in a life of luxury in New York City, the Dumont siblings have everything they could possibly desire from the outside. The inside is a whole different story. With the death of their fathers brother, the family soon find themselves moving to France to a Chateau that they had no idea existed, filled with secrets of its own and three spirits that have been connected to the family for hundreds of years.

Philippe: The playboy heir of the family who cares little for responsibility soon finds himself in a situation where money matters above all, and that comes with rules he can’t stomach and a realisation of powers he refuses to understand.

Camille: The prodigal daughter who would do anything to please her father is plucked from the corporate life she was so desperate to succeed in. Alone in France a drunken moment of madness leads her down a heartbreaking path that awakens her fire within.

Henri: The carefree younger brother well aware of his powers but would rather see himself as a superhero than a witch. Hiding secrets of his own his whole life, France opens up new doors for him and to a feeling he has never experienced before. Love?

Jeanne-Louise: The dream walking baby of the family. She is the most mysterious of the siblings with her strange gifts causing regular havoc ever since she was old enough to realise what they were. The Chateau makes her heart whole and she quickly embarks down a journey of self discovery.

We have forced marriage, spice, romance, action and plenty of mystery to keep you turning the pages.

Fans of American Horror Story: Coven and Anne Rice’s The Mayfair Witches will enjoy this start to the series with a whole new dynasty of witches.

Trigger warnings: This book is intended for an adult audience and has 18+ content inside, SA, adult themes and violence.

Whisper of the Spirts and Shadow by Ben Mckenzie

I recievied this ARC from the author thank you so much.

Here's my honest review. I enjoyed reading the multi povs it added an additional mystery. It reminded me of the Vampire Darires good descriptive writing which starts with a slow pace it takes until the middle of the book for the pacing to change.

It has a few mild spicy scences.

We are following Durmount Family and see how different each of them are.

I received this book as an ARC from the author recommended by a TikTok post. With nothing to lose I went in with eyes open only knowing that this book was about witches and a family drama. It's safe to say I really enjoyed it. Read it in a day. The characters are well built up, the storyline is really good and my only criticism is that it ended too early and I hope to goodness this is the first book of many. Thank you for letting me review - definitely recommend giving this a go.

I was fortunate to get this book as an arc copy. I liked the pacing of the book and the intrigue. The multiple POV’s were great and added to the mystery surrounding the family, I loved each character especially Jeanne-Louise.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this and I can’t wait for the rest of the series!

This was a powerful book. This family went through so much darkness and trauma and it was detailed so carefully and painfully. I like that nothing was given away and you have to learn everything as the siblings do and the way each if them grew discovering more about themselves and their powers and family. I also love how they all came together despite how they started and would do anything for eachother. The details about France, their romantic relationships and the mysteries of the chateu really bring this to life and create a mystery that I cannot wait to read more about. I especially love Claude and Henri and would really like more from their POVs and storyline. I think Henri has alot more he needs to dig into with himself and his siblings , his new connection to Phillipe and his concerns for Jeanne - Louise. The end chapter surprised me because I didn't think she was capable or had a reason to do anything when it came to Ines and I keep learning more about the characters. I went into this knowing it was a series but still internally screaming waiting to read book 2 so I can know what happens.I feel like there's alot starting up and alot waiting to happen that they all need to be careful about.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. So let’s talk about it.

4⭐ overall rating. I don’t give partial stars.
1-2🌶️ rating. There were a few spicy scenes and they were mostly mild. I could see the spice increasing throughout the series.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It gave me The Mikaelsons from the Vampire Diaries vibes in terms of the siblings and their family dynamic. The descriptions of the settings and characters were great and I highlighted many pull-you-in phrases. I really liked the multiple POVs as it helped us get to know the characters better individually and together. There are also many fascinating secrets and unexpected turns.

The story is definitely a slow build, but I expected that with this being the first book in the series. The pacing does pick up about a quarter of the way through and progresses with the story.

Overall I loved each of the four siblings very much for very different reasons and am very excited to watch them continue to grow and unravel the secrets and twists as the series continues.

My favorite quote from the book as shared on the author’s instagram, “I live in a family full of secrets. You might be the best one yet.” -Henri

In this book we follow Delane Dumont’s four children, Philippe, Henri, Camille, and Jeanne-Louise and their adventure of finding out the true nature of their family.

When trouble arises and the Dumont family is forced to move back to France and learn about all their aunt’s and cousins, there is a sinister undertone. When Jeanne-Louise finds an old journal from a deceased relative claiming their family is witches, the three (Imp, Warrior, and Maiden) looking over the Dumont’s powers warn her against continuing with the journal and to work with her siblings.

A terrible fate happens to Camille and awakes her fire power and Philippe’s powers also awaken the longer he stays in the castle seeing the Maiden. Henri finally makes his love interests known and his powers continue to grow.

I received this book as an ARC from the author and I loved this book! I cannot wait to see where the road takes these characters!

A story of paranormal witches and spirit guides ...may I add said family the DUMONT are asshats!

The Dumont family has come together after the death of the eldest brother. The next heir in line must take over responsibility and now he has to drag his chaotic brood with him from New York to France. The family consist of him, a very religious wife who despises all things supernatural, the two youngest have abilities that people found strange and the two oldest who's either all about the party or all about career. After moving into the family chateau in France not only do they find out secrets about their father, but more about themselves. Do I wish this book would've been longer absolutely because it was really getting to the nitty gritty of everything. Did I enjoy this book absolutely this is a series I will be looking out for Book 2.

I was lucky enough to have the chance to receive this book as an arc in exchange for my honest opinions

I really enjoyed this book, I’ve been trying to branch out on the genres I read this year and this has definitely helped me do that.

I liked the multiple povs sometimes I think it adds more to a story getting to see it from different peoples pov and this story does it brilliantly

I liked that it started with more of a slower pace and started to pick up towards the middle, I’m not usually a fan of slow burns because I think they go on for too long but this book is the perfect length and perfect amount of slow burn to keep you captivated

Whisper of Spirits and Shadows is out March 1st (tomorrow) and if you’re into witches, family drama and paranormal books I’d definitely recommended trying this out

and thank you to the author for giving me the chance to read and review this book

I liked this book. The beginning starts of with some backstories for the main characters. I found it a little bit more difficult to really get into the story as there were 4 different POVs for every child of the family. That being sad, I am a person that gets more easily sidetracked when a story has more than 2 POVs because I find the story to be a little less flowing to read. However, I did like this book.
After the introductions of the characters, the real events begin the happen and this is when I was really sucked into the story.
The magic system is interesting and still a bit of a mystery, so I look forward to the second book to get to know more.
Overall this story contains themes like magic, mystery, arranged marriage, multiple POV and some romance (little explicit spice).
I would recommend this book if you want a quick read to get into a new world of magic and mystery.

I was sent a copy for review.

Great story, I really enjoyed the multiple person perspective and can't wait to read more. It ended far too soon!

The only let down for me was several sentence structure issues. They are parts that are too wordy and party where there are word missing. I even had numbers replacing letters. Once you get past some of the flow issues this causes, the story grips you and like I said I want to read more and find out what happens next.

My feelings for the characters changed throughout the book so be prepared to love the characters you initially hated and find a dislike for some you started out rooting for.

This book leaves you wanting more as it just starts to get into the back story of the Dumonts.

I feel some inspiration may have been taken from A discovery of witches with some of the name choices. Or was I the only one?

In this we follow the Dumont family and their children on their adventure as troubles comes a calling. It’s a gripping, dark story of witches & family drama and told with a multiple pov. Used to a life of luxury in New York, this family is used to getting what they want and it’s a shock to move to a chateau in France they didn’t know existed. There they find secrets, mystery, suspense, romance & a few twists and turns in this exciting story and I look forward to seeing where the author takes us next!

I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC copy of this book. The overall narrative and pace was great, and I loved seeing the story develop through the multiple POV’s. We get to explore each character’s inner feelings and thoughts through the book, and the element of magic written between the pages was greatly thrilling. I look forward to reading more about the Dumont family as they navigate their spooky world.

I was lucky enough to read this as an ARC book. I really enjoyed the concept of a family with powers and a patriarch that doesn’t want to acknowledge said powers. I loved the unique characters and their development through the book and the LGBTQ+ love interests. The second half of the book I didn’t enjoy as much as it included a topic I find triggering which became a main theme. However, I would like to find out more about what happens and am excited for the next book.

When a father tries to run from his past it ends up coming back to haunt him. When Delane Dumont ends up inheriting his childhood home in France he does what he can to ignore the unearthly tie it has to his children. However by hiding the truth things end up getting out of hand and we’re left to wonder what will happen next for the Dumont family and can they fix what’s happened.

Intriguing read. The storytelling, characters and setting is great. It is Intriguing and that is why I kept reading.

The only issue I s that it needs to be properly edited and not just run through an app or software programme. I suggest that the author employs an editor or at least gets someone who knows grammar and correct word choice to read it before publication.

Spoilers ahead:

I saw the book series advertised on tiktok and it somehow catched me. And I was surprised about the turns. At first I was a bit annoyed by Camille and Philippe but they definitely turned to the better.
Great Character development. The story is hooking and I'm looking forward to read the next two books. Dealing with the now dangerous Camille after she burned Chase alive and the building bond with Philippe and Blaise will be interesting. I will also look forward to further development with Henri and Claude and when Henri will tell Delane about his sexuality. Jeanne-Louise might be the most dangerous of them with her own head that she wants to bring through. Ines will also bring a great turn with the family development.
I will go with excitement to the next books. Definitely worth reading.
