Ophelia Cavendish should be happy. She’s young, wealthy, and intelligent. But she isn’t - in fact, she’s miserable.
She’s lonely and forever at odds with her neglectful family, who only seem to care about one thing: the success of her older brother, and if that means sacrificing Ophelia, then so be it.
Ophelia is given an ultimatum. Marry Victor Toussaint, the team principal of Nightingale Racing, the top team in Formula 1, so her brother can secure his seat for next year or lose everything.
Faced with the impossible, Ophelia agrees to marry the older Frenchman, who she determines is set on ruining her life. She swaps her gloomy London home for the sunny principality of Monaco.
Can Ophelia, who is so used to being alone, truly be happy in a mismatched marriage with the stubborn man she hates? Can a marriage between the unlikely pair be anything but a disaster?
WHY WAS THIS SO GOOD not this single-handedly getting me out of my reading slump... I am usually not the kind of girl who will pick up a contemporary romance but I am so glad I signed up for Mairead's ARC because it was such a good story that was hot, sweet, and also feel good. I found myself relating to Ophelia a LOT. She's a tall girl and I don't really see tall girls in romance books so that was really appreciated :) Victor was such a hottie! I definitely think his love language is physical touch😏 iykyk This is my first time reading about formula 1 and I think Mairead did a super good job explaining it as well. Pick it up!!
Firstly let me say that Mairead has a true gift for writing dialogue. This being her second novel and she still amazes me.
This isn’t a five stars because the beginning was rough and stunted, but when Victor and Ophelia began to share an orbit, it was perfect! This story was so sweet and so tender. I really enjoyed it and was lost in their world. One of the best things about Mairead’s writing is that she writes from a truly believable point of view, the only unbelievable bit was the beginning. I loved Victor’s patience and wish there was more about his obsession with Ophelia. The spice was low, but lovely and the story flowed better for it.
This is a sweet and easy read with a HEA. I loved all the racing, and family drama. This book is perfect for an easy to read palate cleanser from too much romance. Give it a read you’ll like it.
Honestly it started off great, but got boring real fast. I know the whole point of the book was about Ophelia and how she is basically quiet and depressed but hell man, could she not have been given a little more personality. She was literally hands down the most boring fmc I have EVER READ! The mmc who I cannot even remember the name of saved this book, but barely.
This was my first time reading a book by the author, and I can guarantee I’ll be on the lookout for more. This was a very low angst, sweet read. Their banter was very engaging. I will be coming back to re-read!
Was lucky enough to read the arch of this book I highly recommend it is a beautiful love story of a arranged marriage in the world of motor sports had all the drama one loves to read.
I loved this book so much I have not read F1 racing romance before so it was a nice change. I liked the premise of the book. Victor comes off as a dominant character who gets what he wants and has power but also notices the little things. Ophelia is a layered character; she has a lot of internal struggles. I loved how Mairead showed them so that you could connect with the characters personally. Learning about Ophelia's struggles made me feel her emotions. I love Mairead's writing style. Victor and Ophelia’s romance was so good the build was everything I needed. Victor takes his time with Ophelia being put in a forced marriage. I loved the setup with Ophelia’s family dynamics. It makes you understand why Ophelia thinks the way she does. Archie was an interesting character. He did try to redeem himself in the end but I still don't like him or their dad. I loved seeing Liam pop up at the end.
