My 9 year old nephew really adores this McEvil series. We read the first one together and when the opportunity arose to read this one while helping the author spread the word as well, we jumped at the chance. This is a great read for youngsters like my nephew. The drawings and the colouring of the comic are good, the story is fun and smart. It’s very entertaining, even for the not youngsters (but young at heart) among us.
This is the second in the series of intermediate graphic novels by Lucas Turnbloom featuring main character Stevie L. McEvil. In this second book, a school science fair leads Steve and his collaborators on a trip to the national contest in Washington, DC. Accompanied by his grandfather who has an interesting history in combatting evil, strange events start to happen. The story is very engaging and well-structured with short chapters that keeps the reader turning the pages. His bright graphic illustrations work well to support and extend the story. The story ends with a cliff hanger that will lead to the third book in the series.
Steve has an identity crisis about whether he's a hero or a villain. His sister is ready to take his place as heir to his grandfather. Steve's grandfather chaperones Steve and his friends in Washington DC for the national science fair, but he appears to be up to something.
My son read the first book and absolutely couldn’t wait for the second installment to come out! As soon as it did he dove right in and was laughing out loud the whole way through! Plus it has amazing art! Great for fans do The Bad Guys, Big Nate, and Dogman!
