*The god of the forge…*

Life was good in the Neosphere District. I’d made a name for myself as a renowned supernatural bounty hunter, holding the record for most harpies slayed. But the best part about living in the future? Avoiding the other Olympian gods. Banishing a guy from Olympus because he was “imperfect” tends to make one hold a grudge. Go figure. And no other god possessed the means to time travel. But I did. Thanks to the portal hopping device I forged.

Yup. Life. Was. Grand.

Until a bounty popped up on a certain love goddess. Aphrodite and I had been friends since we were wee gods. I’d be lying to myself if I never thought our “innocent” flirting banter were real on occasion—kidding myself if I said I never wanted things to go beyond platonic. Hence, why I recently kept my distance. For my own sanity. So, of course, I made the grave mistake of taking the godsdamned bounty.

*The goddess of love…*

Since reconciling with my son Eros, after centuries of bad mojo, I’d decided it was time to clean up my act. Ride the straight and narrow. My companion service, Sans Solo, became just the ticket I needed. And it allowed me to use my powers in disguise in modern California under the name Vena Milo.

With the aid of my best friends, and fellow goddesses, the Graces, we ran a legitimate business. All was right in the world.

Until the volcano god showed up. Hephaistos. Heph—a lifelong friend who never failed to confuse me mind, body, and soul. Especially when he showed up with a magical pair of handcuffs. His audacity pissed me off, but the mere sight of him, the smell of him, made my stomach flutter. That…I couldn’t deny. And when Heph's plan goes to Tartarus things got even dicier and we became...the hunted.

-A cyberpunk fantasy Hephaestus x Aphrodite romance that defies myth but answers true love's call-

I enjoyed this book. A great mix of cyberpunk and magic/mythology. The Greek ditties have always been ruled by their emotions for me and seem more superpowered humans to me.

Heph and Ro have been best friends, and confidants as well as always there when the other needed them. However, there is one secret they have both kept from each other (but nobody else).

Heph controls the forges and can create any weapon he can imagine. Scared and battle-hardened this serves him well as a bounty hunter of the future. Ro is the ditty of love but seems to feel nothing but lust recently.

I liked both the characters and I especially like how they both grow beyond the roles expected of them. What I love about this book is all the pop culture (nerdy) references. I got every single one of them. This book also has great side characters as well I hope to see each of them again.

It's a Paradox

Futuristic, mythical, or similarly themed books aren't my thing, but Carly Spade is one of the few authors who has been able to coax me into this world. This time, she's brought me into the world of cyberpunk, year 2104. I'm not sure what it's about, but I'm here for the ride!

Hephaestus "Heph", God of the Forge, and Aphrodite "Ro", Goddess of Love, have a long history (which peeked up several times during the prior series), but it's their present that caught and entertained me.

Things get a bit topsy turvy and a little bit weird when the future impacts the past. TGIF! (Thank God it's fiction) Even though I found it strange and I'm not 100% positive that I understand it, it's still a fun twist. All-in-all, Heph and Ro turn out to be a fierce and fiery couple who fight side-by-side with friends and family and geek out together when they've sated their needs. 🔥🥵🤜🤛⚒️🔗🏹🎮

There is a bigger storyline developing, and I'm interested to see where it leads.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Thomas Locklear and Stella Bloom, are wonderful in this duet edited book. I loved both of them, especially the changes and accents for different characters. ❤️👌❤️

Story: 4.5 stars
Narration: 5 stars <-- a rating I rarely give for narration

Holy Tartarus! This was a freaking amazing introduction for my first journey into cyberpunk. I didn’t know what to expect and I’m afraid that Ms. Spade has set the bar pretty high for any other books in this genre. I loved the mix of other worldly gods and goddesses, magic, myth and cyberpunk elements. This story literally took me to a whole other world as Hephaestus and Aphrodite reconnected.

I fell for Heph instantly! His outlook on life as he hunted and took care of harpies, or other bounties, had me grinning one moment, grimacing at that harpy gunk the next, and cheering him on all along the way. I absolutely loved having his point of view as he hunted down an old childhood friend. As a rough and tough bounty hunter that time travels, he was hilarious.

https://ahelicoptermom.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Silver-Glitter-in-the-Air.png

Ro held her own with Heph. I loved that she gave as good as she got when it came to him. The chemistry that they had both been ignoring for centuries ignited and by all the gods, they lit up the pages of my kindle.

This is filled with action and adventure that carries them from one world to another making it impossible for me to walk away from their story, even for a brief moment. Can’t wait to see where this author is going to take us next in this new series.

Who would have thought to mix Greek myths with cyberpunk?

Hephaestus, God of Fire and Smiths, is a well-known bounty hunter. When he was offered a new job to capture Aphrodite, an old friend but also a long-time crush, he knew he had to take the job. When the job turned south, they find themselves running and fighting for their lives.

This was a creative take on Hephaestus and Aphrodite. I quite enjoyed the humor. However, somewhere in the second half I just kind of lost interest. Maybe it was the pacing? Maybe it's just me?

Overall, a decent read with some funny and steamy moments.

Also for those who are wondering, this does not follow the myths between Hephaestus and Aphrodite at all. If you know their story then you know things didn't go so well for the two.

***I would like to thank NetGalley, Carly Spade (the author), and World Tree Publishing for graciously sending me an ARC to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.**

Oh my fates! I’m still trying to recover from reading this book. This book was intense from the beginning to the end. There was legit action, it was funny, so romantic at points and it was ridiculous hot! Yeah, it definitely did not disappoint in anyway shape or form. Hehe

So we have the lovely Aphrodite (Ro) and hot as all get out Hephaestus (Heph). Their story is straight up amazing. These two have crazy intense chemistry nonstop in this book.

Hopefully you read Eros’ book, if not I mean it’s not exactly necessary but I highly recommend doing so since we pick up on some of the stuff where Ro is at during that book.

Ro is going through some seriously identity stuff and it really makes her seem more human. The struggle is intense and you feel for her. The whole time she is tested and pushed in all directions. She is put in some crazy situations where you are rooting for her and feeling all the emotions.

She’s straight up a kick arse character. Carly Spade brings so much to her that it’s awesome seeing Ro’s development. And I mean come on it’s Aphrodite.

And holy hotness I think we all need a little Heph in our life. That man is so freaking intense and hot. I absolutely loved his character. He’s so rough around the edges but not in the typical way. That man has so many feels for Ro, which happens when you have that one friend that’s been there your whole life.

The shenanigans these two get themselves into is absolutely absurd and hilarious. The banter between them is priceless!

Fingers crossed that you fall in love with them just as much as I did. They are a riot.

I loved seeing past characters in this one it was a really nice treat.

But seriously if you love the other books in this world you have to read this one. It’s freaking steamy all get out and absolutely fabulous! I can’t recommend this book enough!.

I’m probably done with the Contemporary Mythos world after this book. I just can’t.

Reasons I hated this book:
1. I HATED Hephaestus. He was a near-sighted twat who just got more annoying as the book went on.
2. Aphrodite was kinda cool, but then she ended up so fixated on Hephaestus that she lost all her personality.
3. This book should’ve been much shorter. The audiobook is almost 12 hours long. It should’ve been 9-10 at the MOST. We don’t care. Wrap. It. Up.
4. The gratuitous amount of hanky-panky our main couple got up to was tedious in the extreme. They were also passed off as “kinky,” which I have yet to see evidence of in the 20 million boink episodes in this book.
5. This book had more epilogue moments than The Return of the King, and I don’t say that lightly. I kept preparing for the end, only to have ANOTHER chapter with MORE mediocre plot.
6. The time travel “paradox” stuff was poorly developed and even more poorly explained. It made no sense.
7. TOO. MUCH. GLITTER. Aphrodite is basically Barbie with her pink and sparkles. Could we have something with a little more anything than her being obsessed with pink and having magic that creates sparkles? I was just imagining Barbie Movies with her changing in a cloud of sparkles every time Aphrodite used her magic.

I could probably think of more reasons if I wanted to sit here longer, but I’ll end it there.

3.75⭐ (rounded up to 4⭐)

✨ Friends to Lovers
✨ Mutual secret pining
✨ Forced Proximity
✨ Greek Mythology
✨ Cyberpunk

This is the first book in the Beyond a Contemporary Mythos series. It follows Aphrodite and Hephaestus, who have been friends for centuries and have been secretly pining for each other, too afraid that the other person would not reciprocate the feelings. When Heph, a bounty hunter in the year 2104, comes across a bounty for Aphrodite, he takes it upon himself to get her, get the reward for the bounty, and get them both out there as quickly as possible. The only error in his plan is that the seemingly normal man behind the bounty isn't quite as normal or human as expected. This leads them into a chase in which they have to evade his goonies while also trying to get a plan together on how to still get the reward for the bounty, all while trying to fight their ever-growing attraction for each other.

I did enjoy the overall story of Heph and Ro having to work together without access to all of their powers and them being forced to finally acknowledge their feelings for each other after centuries of denying themselves their true love.
And while I did enjoy the contrast between the two timelines, I also found it quite confusing at times, especially when it came to the time when they were talking about Eros and how he came to be. I also found it. a little bit difficult to get into the story, it took me a couple of chapters to really get a good grasp on the world and all the details of this future world that Heph was living in. But when I finally got into the story I quite enjoyed it.

5/5 stars! This book blew me away. I picked it up because of its cover, but hadn't even realized it was a futuristic mythology re-telling. I adored getting to know Carly Spade's versions of these characters and good ole Heph has been a favorite god of mine for ages. This story was perfection and I can't wait to read more.

NetGalley ARC.

This was my first Carly Spade book. Enjoyable! Some cheesy parts but actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be! Spicy Greek mythology retelling, yes that sounds AWFULLY familiar but Spade really made it her own! The sci fi, time travel, cyberpunk aspect was really cool and unexpected! Time to go back and read the Contemporary Mythos series!

Oh my god, this novel is exceptional from start to finish. If you are obsessed with Greek Mythology, to the extent that I am, you should definitely snatch this up when it comes out on February 27th!
From the plot, to the action, to the romance, it honestly has it all. The description was beautiful, and you become insanely attached to the characters and their storylines. Plus, the spice was amazing!!! To top it off, there was an adorable rabbit included that made me smile every time I read about him.

My ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgallery in exchange for a honest review.

I mean, come on the cover is electric and I’m happy to report that the story within can also be described with that one word!

I got strong Fifth Element/Hell Boy/Guardians of the Galaxy vibes from this read and all I can say is, Of Love and Forge by Carly Spade, is now my most favorite mythology retelling ever!

Hephaestos “Heph” (MMC) is the quintessential bad boy God of the Forge and Aphrodite “Ro” (FMC) is the stunning Goddess of Love and I just couldn’t get enough of them. The book title is just perfection!

Their Dual POVs made me giggle and I just loved the bits where Heph claimed to be a see you next Tuesday without actually being a see you next Tuesday kinda guy! It helped that each of their downfalls was an opportunity for them to come together to beat “ol Hippo”.

If you love,
♥️ Friends to lovers
⚒️ Witty banter
♥️ Touch her and ☠️
⚒️ Forced Proximity
♥️ One bed
⚒️ Action packed sequences
♥️ Pop culture references
⚒️ Gaming references
Check this out!

Spade hooked me with the characters, enticed me with the emotion and action and left me wanting more. So excited to read more works by Carly Spade!

I received an ARC from netgalley in exchange of an honest review:

I loved this book. It was so good. The characters, the vibes, the scenarios, literally everything. Aphrodite was so bad*ss, everyone thought she was one thing but she was so much more. She was splendid and showed that women can really be both. Heph was all gruffy but melted around her. His protectiveness toward was so HOT and I was all here for it. They were the definition of power couple, there wasn't a better pairing than them. They brought the best in each other and supported each other unconditionally, and that's how it's supposed to be

I'm legitimately mad that I'm giving this one such a low score because the premise is brilliant and I love the character of Heph (Hephaistos). But the writing is all over the place and the plot loses the thread a couple of times. I think I'm supposed to have read other books in the series that were released before to understand things that happen in this one, but all it does for a new reader is create moments and comments in the plot that come out of nowhere and make little sense. It also seems to jump between scenes where they don't make sense as a linear plot. I know it's partly a time travel story, but scenes feel out of order within the story. Maybe an error in my review copy?
Then there's the fact that Aphrodite is an iffy character. She can't decide what kind of personality she has and it shows in how she interacts with everyone. There are certain things about her that are fun and show why Heph is so in love with her, but I never managed to care about her individual story.
Heph truly is what saved this one for me and earned the entire two-star rating. He and his adorable little rabbit are little moments of sense in a plot that tried hard to be too much and didn't quite make it.

Thank you to NetGalley, Carly Spade, and World Tree Publishing, LLC for the early read.

I received an eARC of this book and had forgotten how much I love Carly Spades' writing!

Aphrodite is living in the mortal world as the head of an escort agency called Sans Solos. Hephestios is living in the future as an infamous bounty hunter. When Heph is given a bounty on Ro, and their paths cross again, will their eons of pining after each other finally give way to love?

I absolutely adored this book! Aphrodite and Hephestesus's relationship is never shown as something good in greek mythology-inspired stories, so it was good to see that change. Adding the element of Sci-Fi and high-tech time travel elements makes this story even more interesting. I think Heph is my new book crush (not that I'd dream of trying to take him from Ro) and I like how he both protects Aphrodite, but also helps her defend herself. When he doesn’t stop Aphrodite from handling problems on her own that made me happy, because I hate it when the main male lead treats the female lead like she’s made of glass. Overall I thought this was a great take on a romantic? story not often told.

First off thank you to NetGalley and World Tree Publishing for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This story follows Hephaistos and Aphrodite. It's a very unique take on their story/myth, has very cyber-punkish vibes. Heph is a bounty hunter and decides to take the bounty on Aphrodite. They haven't seen each other for a bit and when the job turns south, they find themselves running for their lives.

The banter and tension between the two is what kept me reading this. I just didn't vibe with the story as much as I thought I would. I did enjoy the nerdy references. It was a slow burn and but I loved the burn when it finally ignited.

Overall: 3
Spice: 3

This book was SO FUN! The Neosphere district gave me serious sci Fi star wars vibes and I loved it, I really enjoyed the banter and that Aphrodite was able to gain the confidence to be herself instead of putting on a front for everyone, although I thought this was a stand alone and didn't realize there'd be a loose end, I can't wait for my stories from the Neosphere district!

I originally wanted to read this because of my love of Greek mythology! I am a sucker for a retelling of any myth, although many can have their downfalls. There were a few questions I had going into this story, mainly if I would be ok reading this when I had never ready any other Spade's Contemporary Mythos books. And I was! I actually think that this will be a gateway into reading her other books.
I was also worried if it would fall into the myth retelling where nothing is new and the characters aren't expanded on enough. But thankfully, that didn't happen! It was a lovely story. Spade EXPANDED on these characters that everyone already knows about. She gave them personalities and stories OUTSIDE of their myths, and even addresses the weird parts about the general Greek myths (making sure the reader know Aphrodite DIDNT sleep with her brother).
I am extremely happy I picked this book up. It seemed to lag a little bit in certain spots, and I felt like I lost a bit of fire at the very end of the book, perhaps because so much action was packed into the beginning of the book.

The best part is how many feelings Heph has, and how much he loves Ro.

Aphrodite, goddess of love, passion and so much more….is without powers. After learning she lost them because she is no longer loved by anyone, she figures it’s hopeless to even try anymore. When Hephasitos comes to take her in for a bounty she had put on her head, feelings start to really bubble to the surface after they both have shoved them down for centuries. Heph is a bounty hunter and really good at his job but when a bounty comes in for the love goddess he takes it thinking it’ll be easy and they can hang for a minute then go their separate ways. Too bad the feelings just won’t stay away and the god of the forge is feeling all kinds of heated up.

Another amazing story and Greek god retelling from Carly! Sooo good and with great character depth and arcs. I look forward to more from this new series!

I had enjoyed Carly Spade's previous series Contemporary Mythos before and was excited to read this spin-off of the series. She has a great way of telling myths in a new way. Of Love and Forge had what I enjoyed from the previous writings and really enjoyed the journey. It was great to see Hephaestus x Aphrodite be shown and it was really well done.

“I’m going to give you precisely ten seconds to change your mind, Heph. We’re talking about Oz here. I know how rare the metal is. Why do you think I made it part of the reward?” Using the point of his finger jewelry, Riley scratched his cheek, not pulling his gaze away from mine."

Exceptional! I knew this was going to be a five-star read before I even read halfway through! The first half was nothing but action. The last half was lots of sex between Heph and Ro. I still don't quite understand how Eros got created in the future but lives in the past, and I wish there was more action in the last half of the book but overall I liked this book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

I was given an advanced copy by Netgalley and World Tree Publishing in order for an honest review. I really enjoyed this steamy friends to lovers between Hephaestus and Aphrodite! I love Greek mythology so this was right up my alley!

Heph takes a bounty job for Aphrodite because he wants to spend more time with her. But chaos ensues when they are attacked by harpies as well as other evil bounty hunters who want Aphrodite. Heph will do everything in his power to keep her safe.

I liked the friendly banter between the two and how passionate the two were. This book had me fanning myself it gets pretty steamy! It has one trope that isn’t my favorite but it didn’t take away from the book. I had a fun time reading this! Be sure to pick this up on Feb 28,23.

There are quite a few things that can guarantee my immediate interest. Greek Mythology is one of those things and the Contemporary Mythos series by Carly Spade was one of my favorite almost contemporary romance series ever. I was therefore really looking forward to read this story. Connected to the contemporary mythos series in one way, but set in a different and unique world. I was therefore really happy that I could grab an arc via BookSirens.

This book has a completely different atmosphere and feel than the Contemporary Mythos books. Firstly because in this case both main characters are Gods and have known each other for their entire eternal lives already. Secondly because the change of scenery and world really changes the kind of story the author is trying to tell. It's still a romance. But it's no longer mainly a romance. It has a bit of mystery, loads of action and an overarching plot.

I have to admit that the world-building feels a little wobbly. The author states that this is a future version of the world, which does make sense considering the link with the contemporary mythos series, but I feel like we're not experiencing enough of the world to really understand how it works, how the world became like this and what the "rules" of the world are. I understand society has changed a lot and magic is much more common, but the foundation seems to be missing.

However, Aphrodite and Hephaestus make up for that without much effort. The chemistry between these two characters is amazing. From their very first interaction I felt that that special something was there. I really enjoyed the mutual pining, them both thinking the other didn't feel the same, them both holding themselves back. I also enjoyed the power they radiated once they DID admit what they were feeling. Because in this case? Feelings and emotions CAN change the entire game.

I hope the next installment will give us a little more information on the world itself, but without a doubt Spade writes the best romances I've ever encountered so I'm already looking forward to reading about the next couple!

Thank you so so much to the author and the publisher, World Tree Publishing, for sharing an ARC of this book with me on NetGalley!!

“I didn't doubt he'd end up catching me, especially with my powers dwin-dling, but I'd make him work for it.
And in some warped sense, I kinda liked him chasing me.”

"What the Tartarus kind of
Maverick Top Gun move was that,
Heph?"

"I'm all yours now, Aphrodite. Don't break me."

WOW !!!! I don’t know what to say, just … WOW !!!
I’ll start saying that alongside Hades and Persephone, Aphrodite and Hephaestus love story is the one I’ve always been kinda obsessed over !!!!
And this author DELIVERED in the best possible ways !!!
Action, magic, myths, love and lust all happening together in a very original dystopian cyber-like version of a romance between opposites, impossible if not for the fire they both shared.
Believe me, I am not a fan of friends to lovers but the amount of banter and flirting happening between these two made me melt multiple times over !!!
I was flustered and hot all throughout their conversations and the possessiveness they showed towards each other … MY HEART !!!!! It was so so good !!!
Having felt like this since forever but with a To and fro dynamic that feels safer, all of a sudden they’ll find themselves with forced proximity, a bit of a roommate situation and a fake relationship that will have them on the verge of bursting through their clothes and jumping each other’s bones !!!
I loved the nicknames they used to address each other and I believe that Hephaestus came up with the BEST of them !!!!
And don’t let me even start on the spicy scenes … CHEF KISS !!!!!
Add to that a scene with “who did this to you” and a bit of a “good girl” and I’m a loser !!!!
I’m so so so glad I had the chance to read an ARC of this book and I can’t freaking wait for it to be out !!!

“If we ever shattered--it'd be the end of times, and we'd wither away together."

"The Forge is inside you, Ro."

"I'm going to show you the things I've wanted to do for centuries to you every waking moment we were together. The reason I had to keep my distance.
Otherwise, I would've gone fucking mad.”

If you’re a fan of Carly’s Contemporary Mythos series, you will love this! I really loved her first series, so it’s so cool to come back this world in a fresh way. I absolutely love the blend of cyberpunk (I’m totally picturing TRON here lol) mixed with Greek gods and goddesses.

Heph is a bit of a grump, and I love him. And I loved his chemistry with Ro (Aphrodite) as they have to work together. Fans of friends to lovers will enjoy this! I loved all their dynamics together, the banter, the sass, this was a fun couple.

And this book is just fun! So if you’re looking for a quick-paced cyberpunk world with a new take on Greek gods and goddesses, check out this and also the first series from Carly!

review to come....Actual Rating: 2.5⭐

Read this Cyberpunk Fantasy Romance if you like:
• Friends-to-Lovers
• One Bed
• Mutual Pining
• Greek Mythology Retelling
• Spice and bantering

A unique combination, this is the first time I read a Greek Mythology retelling with sci-fi elements in it.
I also like the fact that this Aphrodite and Hephaestus retelling took a happy turn which is very different from the original story.

I like the idea of the world building in this story, but I wish it was more explored because I would’ve love to know more.
As for the characters, I really enjoy reading Heph’s POV and also the banter and tension between Heph and Aphrodite. However, it’s hard for me to connect to Aphrodite’s character.

I like the first half part of the story, but I found the second part not as interesting as the first part. At one point, I thought the story has reached the climax part and it’ll end. But I was surprised to saw that I still have 20% left of the book and this part is where I started to lose interest.

Overall, I like the concept cause it’s very unique. But some things still need development, I hope there will be as the series progress.
Maybe I should’ve read the previous series (Contemporary Mythos) to connect with the world building and the characters better.

Thank you to Papermyths and the author for giving me an e-ARC of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!

I was caught in the rapture of these two right from the beginning! Sexual tension is high, relentless flirting, and both are too afraid to say something?! I loved this retelling of Aphrodite and Hephaestus. The God of Fire doesn’t think he stands a chance with his best friend. He’s uses his aloofness to hide his insecurities even though Aphrodite can’t wait to jump him! Also, they are both nerds and I love it! As this adventure unfolds they both realize that this chemistry they have is fated and one of them needs to speak up! So much more I want to say, just go read if. I’m about to download all the other books on this series now! 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Let me start by saying that I absolutely loved the Contemporary Mythos series. So when I managed to snag a copy of Of Love and Forge I was so so excited.

I loved the world building of the Neosphere. The idea that the future is either a bunch of people looking either super posh or super punk rock sounded like a great place to me.

I loved Hephaistos. He was basically Karl Urban from the Boys but with a pet bunny and way nerdier. Which I was all for.

I didn't like Aphrodite, but I didn't mind reading from her perspective.

There were a couple of events that happened in this book that I felt were glossed over and needed a bit more explaining, but otherwise I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series!!

Lastly, the spice was 🌶🌶 for sure, with multiple scenes that were well done and had me fanning myself to keep cool because oh wow were they hot hot.

I definitely enjoyed this book, even with it being slow at first. Will definitely continue the series.
