Must read for all retirees and those approaching retirement.
This book is fun, easy-reading, light-hearted, and very interesting. It is not only a primer on bonds, but also a very good book about general investing. The book keeps it basic and simple while telling you everything you need to know about investing in bond mutual funds. It does not give you the superfluous details about investing in individual bonds which requires an extraordinary desire and at least $350,000 to invest. I found the other popular bond books to be too technical and too focused on individual bonds.
The book tells you all about all types of bond funds, their advantages and disadvantages. It presents different personal financial situations and describes appropriate allocations of various bonds funds.
As with the Dummies series, margin notes let you know what is important, what is nerdy, and what is dangerous. You can easily skip paragraphs and even whole chapters which are not pertinent to your situation.
This 3rd edition is not better than the 2015 first edition; it's just updated. There are some things in the first edition only that make reading both editions worthwhile.

Good primer for new investors or refresher for experienced ones. Concepts explained simply and math is limited to the scenarios relevant to average investors. Covers the broad range of topics from par value and coupon rate, calculation of various yield scenarios, tax implications, types of bonds, and general advice for using bonds in a portfolio.
