From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake comes a new story in her Masters and Mercenaries series…

When West Rycroft left his family’s ranch to work in the big city, he never dreamed he would find himself surrounded by celebrities and politicians. Working at McKay-Taggart as a bodyguard and security expert quickly taught him how to navigate the sometimes shark-infested waters of the elite. While some would come to love that world, West has seen enough to know it’s not for him, preferring to keep his distance from his clients—until the day he meets Ally Pearson.

Growing up in the entertainment world, Ally was always in the shadow of others, but now she has broken out from behind the scenes for her own day in the spotlight. The paparazzi isn’t fun, but she knows all too well that it’s part of the gig. She has a good life and lots of fans, but someone has been getting too close for comfort and making threats. To be safe, she hires her own personal knight in shining armor, a cowboy hottie by the name of West. They clash in the beginning, but the minute they fall into bed together something magical happens.

Just as everything seems too good to be true, they are both reminded that there was a reason Ally needed a bodyguard. Her problems have found her again, and this time West will have to put his life on the line or lose everything they’ve found.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Not going to rate this one as I only skimmed it, but not really Blake's best. These are two (very) minor characters who didn't really need a story, and there was limited chemistry between them. I know insta-love is a given considering the novella format, but Blake has made that work much better in the past too. The best thing about this book was seeing a snippet of Kala. I cannot WAIT for her and Cooper's story.

Bring on the next book in September!!

With how the first meeting went between Ally and West I didn't expect much from this one. But both of them owned up to what they did and they were able to move past things to a working relationship. I liked that West soon saw that all he thought about Ally was wrong and how others treated her. That was so eye opening for him and really caused him to see her in a different light, leading to more happening between them. I liked that Ally realized what was going on after she talked with West and had the whole meeting to out her thoughts to everyone. Better was Ian being there on things smiling as it went down. I liked the ending, nice to see that these two be happy and still have roots to Dallas.

TEMPTED (A MASTERS AND MERCENARIES NOVELLA)

Release Date: 06/27/23
Kindle Unlimited: [ ]YES [X]NO
Stand-alone: [X]YES [ ]NO
Author: Lexi Blake
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spiciness rating: 🌶️🌶️/5
POV: Dual, third person
Main Characters: Ally & West
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Tropes: bodyguard; famous FMC; stalker (not the MMC); heroine in danger

Review:

West was tired of working as bodyguard to disrespectful and bratty women and when he is given the job to protect the reality show celebrity/actress Ally, he doesn’t want to do it. He goes with a prejudiced mind thinking she will be as bad as his last client and they actually have a bad start, but they solve their problems soon enough.

Ally is known to be the bratty celebrity and now she has an opportunity of getting a role that will be great to her career. The problem is that she is being victim of a stalker that has been getting bolder. Although things happen really fast here (because it’s a novella), we get to see their relationship growing and also meet some characters from Lexi’s other books. Which is the purpose of the books in the series.

If you like bodyguard romances and want something fast to read or even get a taste of Lexi’s writing, you should give this book a try.

As always, Lexi Blake delivers! I was so excited for West to get a story and it did NOT disappoint. One of my favorite things about Lexi Blake is her heroines. I love that they're often people I think I have nothing in common with and then she does such an amazing job of not just getting me to root for them, but also showing me what we DO have in common. It's especially wonderful when she takes the kind of person that is easily villained and de-humanized in our society and reminds us that there is a real person there - like a reality tv star like Ally.

I floved everything about this book. The chemistry between West and Ally is off the charts, and somehow the story is even better.

3.75-4 stars. Tempted is an enjoyable novella in the Masters and Mercenaries world. This is Ally and West's story. Ally is the younger sister of Brynn Pearson, the heroine in Bayou Sweetheart. She is an actress who grew up on a reality show. Ally has fought her way out of her sister's shadow and worked hard to prove herself as a serious actress. She finally gets her break on a breakout dramatic role, but she also finds herself with a dangerous stalker. Her father hires McKay-Taggart to protect her and West Rycroft is assigned to the job. He prejudges Ally as a spoiled starlet and treats her rudely, but he soon sees her for the amazing woman she really is. As the two spend time together, they fall for each other and solve the mystery of the stalker as well.

Tempted was a quick, easy read. I did wish it was a little longer. But the story was good and I liked Ally and West. They were a sweet couple. Overall, this was an entertaining novella. I enjoyed catching up with other characters in the series and I look forward to more from this series and from Ms. Blake in the future!

I truly love all the M&M books, whether they're full length or one of the 1,001 Nights novellas!

Ally and West have a whirlwind romance after their initial mutual dislike of each other.

My favorite takeaway from this book is cliche, but they truly complete each other in every way.

West gives her the security and confidence to show her 'real self' and Ally gives him a new path in life to thrive.

As always, Big Tag steals the show with his larger than life personality that I will always and forever adore. There are cameos galore for fans of this beloved series!!

Triggers: Stalking
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

West is enjoying his life. Moving to the city was something he had to do in order to support his twin, yes, but West also needed to get out of his small town for him too. Now, working security, West is trying to find his place in the world. After protection duty that had him fending off the person he was supposed to be protecting, the last thing that West wants is another "entitled princess" to watch. But, duty calls.

Ally is young and wanting to make her own mark on the movie world. She's coming from a past that has denied her to right to prove herself. Now that she's landed a real part - Ally wants to show everyone that she can act and that her reality show - or rather her sister's show isn't what defines her and that Ally is more than the spoiled brat she portrays.

With someone stalking Ally, her family wants to make sure that she's safe. When West is hired to protect Ally, neither pull any punches. Their "meet cute" is anything but. Tempers flare, words are slung and then they're off to the races.

As they get to know each other, their pasts come to light, their true selves are revealed and the danger lurks closer and closer.

You won't be disappointed in this novella. It's a quick read that shows how first impressions aren't always right, everyone can change and sometimes, finding yourself is the best way through.

This felt like there was enough material here for a full length story, but at the same time, I do think the novella worked. Not my favorite novella in the series, but it felt like a solid, reliable entry. Ally and West were fun, and I really liked Rand and Martin too (would read about them!). One of the best parts of the novellas in this series are, as always, getting the chance to just check in with some of this whole giant found family.

Growing up in Hollywood, Ally Pearson is tired of being in the shadows and is ready to begin her breakout role. But her latest stalker or a new one has struck again and her step-father thinks it is time to get her personal security. That is where McKay-Taggart comes in.
West Rycroft grew up on a ranch in a small Texas town and knew it was time to leave when his twin brother left. He would always support his twin and he needed the change too. Now he is working at McKay-Taggart and has realized that protecting the rich and famous is not for him until he meets Ally.
West and Ally click from their first meeting, whether they disagree on her safety or the sizzling touches, they are meant to be together. Will her lifestyle tear them apart? Will West finally see what his life is supposed to be? Can Ally and West make their relationship work?
I loved the banter between Ally and West from the beginning. I was trying to figure out who her stalker was but I kept coming up with wrong guesses until it was obvious who it was. I love the way this author has of making this series where you are invested from the beginning, even when it is a novella like this one, but you have to know how the story ends. I hope there will be more to Ally and West's story in the future.

This is one of the wonderful 1001 Dark Nights series – and one of my favourites – Masters & Mercenaries Sanctum Nights. I long for a time when I can go back to the goodness of book one and read them all in one go – binge reading at its finest!

Here we find West, straight off his horrendous princess bodyguard stint and very reluctant to now work for a reality TV/acting princess. Fortunately, he is made to realise the error of his assumptions as he gets to know Ally better... a lot better!

I loved Ally's sharing of her inner thoughts with us, and her groundedness given the crazy upbringing she has had. When West and she start to gel, it is magic and well deserved by both. I love that this book enables West to think hard about what he really wants, rather than what worked at the time, and Ally gets the chance to do exactly the same – and so the impossible becomes the possible.

Delicious, could have read on another 1001 pages, love all these characters, so many lovely vignettes and poignant moments. Thank you, Lexi Blake, for another great installment.

This novella has a great mixture of sweet moments intermixed with mystery and hints of danger.

West Rycroft is a blend of sweet, intense, and yet he's also a little bit lost. He's the youngest Rycroft, well he and his twin brother Rand, by ten years, and where his oldest brothers run the family ranch, Wade Rycroft works for McKay-Taggart (you might remember him from his own book). When West saw an opportunity to help his twin brother move from their small home town, he took the opportunity to work with Wade at McKay-Taggart. In moving, Rand found the perfect job and the love of his life, and while West is happy for him, because he'd do anything for his family, working at McKay-Taggart isn't exactly his dream job.

West doesn't know exactly what he wants to do, especially when the next assignment lands across his desk-Allyson Pearson a Hollywood star, but staying is what he does, although he isn't keen on taking on another pampered Hollywood princess. West is aware that being a bodyguard is mostly about guarding the rich and entitled, but it doesn't make him like it any more. While West comes across a bit gruff right in the beginning-making judgments before getting to know Ally he does turn it around and I fell completely in love with the huge heart I knew he was hiding under his grumpy exterior.

Allyson Pearson has a stalker that seems to have escalated to the point where she needs full time protection. She's moving from reality TV star into a more Oscar worthy role, and this change seems to have attracted a psycho. Hiring McKay-Taggart seems to be the only way to make her dream possible even when she and West don't hit it off right away. While Ally is used to people judging her for her on screen personas, it still hurts when she knows this particular man will be by her side twenty-four seven. Ally is more than she lets people see and it doesn't take long for West to realize his first impression was way off base. She's a hard worker and West soon respects her, while being highly attracted to her. Bring on the steam!

As parents we know our kids, but to see our children through someone else's eyes is, I'll say enlightening. Ally has a moment with Kala, Ian and Charlotte's daughter, and it's both insightful (especially given where the series is headed) and a very touching moment between the two. That moment opens up a great conversation between Ally and Ian later on in the book that brought tears to my eyes. Ian, as a dad is a lot of times comic relief, but he also has one of the biggest hearts given his pension for the huge found family he has surrounding him. This sweet moment between him and Allyson is him showing that huge heart as a father vs. the one he always has for everyone else around him and while I love comic relief Ian, this soft side was perfection 🥰

This novella is a quick read, but did deliver some twists I didn't see coming while at the same time delivering some very sweet moments from within the McKay-Taggart family. Of course there are the beloved character mentions and quick updates, but for the most part this story is all about Ally and West.

TEMPTED by Lexi Blake is a contemporary, adult, romantic suspense story line set in the author’s Masters and Mercenaries series, and a part of the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights. This is former rancher turned security specialist West Rycroft, and Hollywood actress Ally Pearson. TEMPTED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Lexi Blake’s participation in the 1001 Dark Nights focuses on the secondary and tertiary characters we may or may not have met in the previous story lines. West is Wade’s brother (Protected 16.5),

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Ally and West) TEMPTED follows with the knowledge that many someones may be threatening Ally Pearson. Ally Pearson is considered Hollywood royalty, and a reality show has brought out the crazies including more than one potential stalker. Cast for an upcoming movie, Ally’s step-father contracts with McKay-Taggart to provide protection for our story line heroine in the wake of threats against our story line heroine. Enter former rancher turned security guard West Rycroft, and the man with whom Ally will fall in love. West is part of a three-person crew assigned to protect Ally but West struggles from the outset believing Ally to be a spoiled princess, a brat, a child of privilege, and demanding. West would quickly discover that Ally is not the person the paparazzi has made her out to be, a paparazzi that is trying to discredit and destroy our story line couple. As West, and the team at McKay-Taggart hunt for the person responsible, the threats become more personal and dangerous, forcing our couple together in more ways than one. What ensues is the building but forbidden relationship between Ally and West, and the potential fall-out as the guilt party may be someone Ally knows.

The relationship between Ally and West begins as an assignment, a reluctant assignment in which West is quick to label and judge our story line heroine for who she is, and what she does.West had already completed one assignment with a real, spoiled princess, and he was in no mood to do it again. Ally knows she has a stalker but refuses to give in and give up her life.Falling for West was easy, staying with West may threaten both of their careers. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Martin Rehn and West’s twin brother Rand Rycroft, Tessa Santiago-Hawthorne, Ian ‘Big Tag’ and Charlotte Taggart, Ally’s sister Brynn, their mother and step- father Gavin Jacks; as well director Jay Clarke, several actors and actresses, and members of the crew.

TEMPTED is a story of power and control, greed and betrayal, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is intriguing, dramatic and captivating; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are desperate and determined.

Queen Lexi Blake is out with another Masters ad Mercenaries novella, and to no one's surprise I hope, I adored it. There's something about West and Ally that I absolutely adored, and I'm very happy they had their story told. This is a story about finding your inner strength and standing up for yourself, no matter what everyone is saying, but also being your own champion, and if you find your person along the way, well that just makes things more interesting.

Ally and West were such an amazing treat to read about, guys. I adored Ally's inner strength. She had her family backing her up, so that in itself gives her a lot of strength and courage, but ultimately she learns to be her own champion, and I think that that was such a powerful thing for her to learn. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that we need to stand up for ourselves, no matter what. She doesn't let West's initial opinion of her get to her too much, she doesn't act like the situation she's in isn't serious, she doesn't endanger herself, and she ends up going with her gut and doing what is right for herself. I feel like it took a lot of courage for Ally to do what she did towards the end of this story, and I was really proud of her.

West has a lot of things to think about in this story. He had to put aside a lot of misconceptions, about Ally, about his job, about himself. And he had to come to terms that him and Ally weren't that different, and that their life history was quite similar, and he had to really sit and think about what that similarity meant. Their roads in life may have taken them on different paths, but their motivations were the same. West did a good job at groveling when he realized he messed up, and I quite enjoyed that, because who doesn't love a good grovel?

As expected, we get to see Ian and his family, and that was perfectly awesome for me. I absolutely adore anytime we get to see the Taggart clan and see what they're up to. The plot developed quite quickly, and I read this book in one sitting. I absolutely adored it, and, as always, I can't wait for more.

Every new release in this series not only expands the world of the Masters and Mercenaries, it makes me fall in love more and more with Lexi Blake's craft. And that is because it takes a special talent in my opinion to be able to write both long and short stories really well, and while I am always left wanting for more when I read her novellas, it's not because the story is lacking, but because I genuinely don't want to be done with the story. While this novella can totally be enjoyed by itself, I highly recommend that if this is your first time reading this author, that you go back and read the series from the beginning.

Ally is first seen in her sister's book, which is in the Butterfly Bayou series. Where she was the younger sister and always in her sister's shadow.

West has also been around for some time in the McKay-Taggart world as a body guard, but he doesn’t really have the same experience as the other guys in the firm.

West is put on Ally's case and like the rest of the world has some misconceptions about her. Everyone thinks she's a spoiled brat actress that just has a bad attitude and treat people horribly. And the paparazzi only add to the misconceived notions about her. And she doesn’t really care to change anyone's mind about her.

“You know the world would be a way better place if we felt like being kind was like the norm.”

She's honest and up front about it, she doesn’t beat around the bush or sugar coat anything and people tend to not like that. She's a breathe of fresh air.

The point, though, is that first of all, I don’t have a bunch of tender feelings. I leave that to the big boss.” Taggart nodded. “I’m known for my delicate emotional state.”

West has had his fair share of dealing with celebs, politicians and rich people and lets just say he's not fond of them. And how they treat people who don’t have as much money as them. Not to mention they believe they can have whatever they want, even if who they want doesn’t want them back.

So not only does he have to deal with their attitudes but he has to deal with them making advances on him. Which is not comfortable at all. When he meets Ally he just thinks she's like all the rest of the celebs that believe they can do what they want and get away with it. He treats he rudely to say the least.

“The best way to avoid a troll is to not go over any bridges,” West said. “Some dude in a bar told me that. Of course, he also claimed to be a werewolf, but I did think it was relatable advice.

He doesn't realize what he's in for, he learns pretty quickly that she is nothing like what the paparazzi makes her out to be. And that’s not all she actually cares about other people and doesn’t treat them badly. He was completely wrong and it hits him.

“Not a lot about your life is fair. I’ll step back if you need me to, but I won’t stay away forever. You need me. You need me to balance out your life. You need me because I will put you first, because you will always be my priority. I love you, Allyson.”

I love the way Ally was unapologetically herself and didn't live by what anyone else said she should.

I didn’t like that she didn’t stand up for herself when it came to her new role, but I understand sometimes you have to play the game until you can do better.

West seems to have a change of heart pretty quickly when he realizes that Ally isn't what she's made out to be.

I really like that West seemed to also find himself and what he wanted to do with his life in the process of taking care of Ally and he was able to pursue it with her.

I swear, I will never grow tired of this series or the M&M gang. The 1001 novellas in this series are the only ones I feel you can truly enjoy as a standalone. While you'd miss the amazing dynamics and backstory of Ian and his team, you get plenty to enjoy the story in full.

This is a steamy bodyguard romance that I enjoyed thoroughly. West is a country boy turned bodyguard, working for McKay Taggard security. After a particularly handsy princess thought his body came with the guarding, he's not particularly keen on taking on another celebrity client. Especially not with the public rep that Ally has. Ally has a particularly nasty stalker whose behavior escalated enough that her parents demand she take the threat seriously. But when her bodyguard is immediately judgmental of her, she's not exactly thrilled herself.

I'll admit, I wished the antagonism between these two lasted a bit longer. I would have loved that burn. But the second West sees Ally for who she is, he's all in and turns full cinnamon roll. Well, with the touch her and die vibes, obviously. He falls for her pretty quick and the feeling is entirely mutual. This was a sweet and steamy romance with a small touch of suspense that I enjoyed. But like all the books in this series, my favorite will always be the Ian cameos. My love for that man will never end.

Ally Pearson is finally on the brink of her own success after being her sister’s assistant for years and then starring in her family’s reality tv series. For the first time, she’s been cast in a dramatic role and life couldn’t be better, except for the stalkers she seems to have accumulated.

West Rycroft is not thrilled when he finds out he’ll be 24/7 with who he perceives to be a Hollywood brat . . . especially since he just spent time with a handsy princess. While others may thrive by working with celebrities, West knows it isn’t for him, but he doesn’t want to leave his brother or Ian Taggart in a lurch.

From day one, they are explosive together. And, even though they get off on the wrong foot, they quickly know their chemistry is worth exploring even if only for a limited time. But, can West survive the shark infested waters of Hollywood and can Ally survive her stalker?

It’s always a thrill to be back in the McKay-Taggart world and these novellas give us gorgeous stories of characters we would never have gotten to know without them! I loved how self assured West was and that he immediately “got” Ally as soon as he really spent time with her. He knew exactly what she needed and understood immediately what made her tick. And, I adored how fierce and independent Ally was, yet still had a vulnerable side that most were never privileged enough to see. Thank you, West, for breaking down those walls!

As always, it’s the little moments that make this book something special. Ian Taggart is awesome, dispensing advice and matchmaking behind the scenes. West’s brother Rand and his fiance Martin are a real delight as well! Ally has a moment with one of Ian’s daughters that will melt your heart. And, the special moments between West and Ally make the story phenomenal. 5 stars for Tempted!

Tempted is Lexi Blake’s newest novella for 1001 Dark Nights and it combines her two series - West Rycoft from Masters & Mercenaries and Ally Pearson from Butterfly Bayou series. You don’t have to read any of these other books to seriously enjoy West and Ally’s romance!

West is working as a bodyguard for McKay-Taggart since moving to Dallas with his twin brother, Rand. His latest client is reality show princess Ally who has picked up a nasty stalker. Ally turns out to be exactly the opposite of what West expects, they have some serious chemistry and need to work together to find her stalker.

As with all the M&M novellas I loved so much of this quick read! Just because it’s a novella don’t make the mistake of thinking it won’t pack an emotional punch or keep you guessing until the very end who the st$lker is or lack the steam we all expect from Lexi Blake. Tempted delivers on all fronts. I was really moved by Ally interacting with Kala (I need her book STAT) and how we as parents sometimes don’t see what our kids need from us, that is obvious to an outsider.
Ally and West don’t have the best introduction but once they get past their prickly outer shells these two are complete soulmates.

Tempted balanced West and Ally’s story with cameos from M&M favorites -Ian and Charlie- while checking in with Rand’s story and providing background for Kala’s book. Did I mention I can’t wait for Kala’s book?? Tempted is a wonderful addition to the series!

Thank you to the author and 1001 Dark Nights for an E-ARC in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts are my own. has a publish date of June 27, 2023.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is one of the wonderful 1001 series - and one of my favourites ... Masters and Mercenaries. I long for a time when I can go back to the goodness of book 1 and read them all in one go - binge reading at its finest!

Here we find West, straight off his horrendous princess bodyguard stint and very reluctant to now work for a reality tv/acting princess. Fortunately he is made to realise the error of his assumptions as he gets to know Ally better ... a lot better!

I loved Ally's sharing of her inner thoughts with us, and her groundedness given the crazy upbringing she has had. When West and she start to gel, it is magic, and well deserved by both. I love that this book enables West to think hard about what he really wants, rather than what worked at the time, and Ally gets the chance to do exactly the same - and so the impossible becomes the possible.

Delicious, could have read on another 1001 pages, love all these characters, so many lovely vignettes and poignant moments. Thank you Lexi Blake for another great installment.

“It’s freeing when you realize the armor is your bones and skin and soul and it’s always with you when you need it.”

Lexi Blake has written another fantastic story in the Masters and Mercenaries world! I love a good Hollywood starlet and bodyguard romance. Apropos of Lexi Blake’s storytelling, Tempted runs deeper than its surface tropes. Allyson and West are both searching for something more out of life. After leaving his family’s ranch to join McKay-Taggart, West still feels a bit lost. When he’s assigned to guard a rising film star from a stalker, he begrudgingly accepts the job. Allyson is adamant that she doesn’t need protection, but after an escalated stalker incident, her family insists. I’ve enjoyed West’s moments in other MT books, and I loved his HEA. West is the quintessential grouchy dumdum who judges the FMC before getting to know her and eats crow before the fourth chapter. Their tense introductions made their eventual romance that much sweeter. Allyson and West’s support of one another was truly touching. As a fresh, unbiased voice in her life, West helped Ally find the strength to stand her ground and believe in her talents. Ally sparked a passion in West to find a career he loved. I enjoyed West & Ally’s love story, it’s a lovely addition to the MT family and 1001 Dark Nights Novella series!

5 Star Review of Tempted (Masters and Mercenaries #26.5) by Lexi Blake

It’s no secret that the Masters and Mercenaries series is one of my all-time favorites. Tempted was a great addition to the series and is West Rycroft and Allyson (Ally) Pearson’s story.
This was a well written, action-packed romantic suspense story with a good balance of romance and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat whilst reading such is Ms. Blake’s writing, she draws you in and will keep you invested from the first to the last chapter.
West is a security expert and bodyguard for McKay Taggart, a job he enjoys (but doesn’t love), he holds himself aloof from his colleagues and clients. However, that is all about to be tested when Ally hires him to protect her from the threats and stalker.
From the moment they met, the sparks flew and not necessarily in a good way. As West gets to know the real Ally, he learns that there is more to her than what she shows the world. We all know there is a fine line between love and hate and once they cross the line, all bet’s are off.
Tempted is a fast paced story with plenty of action, suspense and danger. The characters are engaging and it was great to see familiar faces make an appearance.

West Rycroft has just spent months being bodyguard for a very spoiled princess and when he is assigned to guard Allyson Pearson. He’s not happy with the assignment, but quickly realizes Ally is nothing like what he expected. She’s feisty and outspoken, but she treats people as equals and doesn’t expect everyone to bow to her every whim. She is excited to be working on a film in Dallas, but someone is stalking her and he appears to be escalating. Can she and West have a personal relationship as well as a professional one and can he keep her safe?

The best part of this story is we get to see Ian Taggart and some of his family. Although there is some mystery surrounding the culprit playing pranks on Ally, its not really hard to guess who it is. This book could have used a little more twist, but its fun to watch the two characters develop both as people and as lovers.

Everyone’s kids are growing up, and Ally gives Ian’s daughter Kala some special advice for her prom, which brings him over to her side. West discovers a passion for lighting and filming that surprises everyone.

The sex scenes are hot and overall, this is a well written little drama.

Loved this!

Tempted was such a good read. It has just the right mix of swoony romance (West's initial dislike of who he thinks Ally is makes his fairly quick capitulation all the sweeter) and threatening (to Ally) suspense. The continual juxtaposition of believe women and that's just how the business is felt spot on--and I freaking loved how many of the characters were 100% in on the "if Ally feels at all uncomfortable, it's a problem" camp, including the police detective.

(Though that did make it kind of obvious who the culprit was, earlyish on. But I'm not even mad about it, because the way Ally figures everything out and how everyone rallies around her is just so perfect.)

And that epilogue? Even more perfect. <3

Like all of the 1001 Dark Nights books, Tempted works just fine as a standalone. But if you've read any/all of the other Masters and Mercenaries books, you'll really enjoy all the glimpses you get here of other series characters. (Ally's conversation with Kala! So perfect...)

Rating: 4 stars / A-

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Tempted is a 1001 Dark Nights novella. Written to give new readers an intro into the authors book world and it also gives readers like me a bonus book in the authors series. Tempted is a part of the Masters and Mercenaries series. This book can be read as a standalone within a series and this is West Rycroft and Ally Pearson’s story.

West works at McKay-Taggart as a bodyguard and Ally needs help. She has a stalker. Ally is an actress. I love little gems such as when an author brings in other books that they have written. In this case Lexi Blake brought in her town of Bliss, from her Butterfly Bayou series. It is another series that this author has written that I absolutely love.

West and Ally are in an insta-love romance! Things heat up pretty fast between them. I am impressed with the twist that this author threw in. I didn’t see that one coming.

I love Lexi Blake's written word; she throws in humor, suspense and romance. I just want to read more of her books. She is the author that I will read anything from her. 5 STARS

Thank goodness for Lexi Blake, and her love of the zany world of McKay-Taggart. May it never end, and may we be so lucky as to have plenty more books to read in this world.

Listen, if a book has Ian Taggart in it, there is absolutely zero chance that it will not be at the top of my TBR pile. I love the M & M world as a whole, but Ian is the icing on the cake, and I can't get enough. TEMPTED, the latest endeavor between Lexi and 1,000 Dark Nights, is just the perfect blend of action, passion, suspense, and Taggartisms, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved West Rycroft right away, but I wasn't so sure about Ally Pearson, made famous, or infamous, via the reality show based on her family. When West is assigned to protect her, the battle of wills is real, but it doesn't take long for him to see the real Ally, and for the lines between personal and professional to blur in the most delicious ways.

Lexi writes her men strong and smart, and her women their match in every way. Witty banter, plenty of action, and tons of steam has made this series an all-time favorite of mine. I obviously can't say enough good things, so take that as your encouragement to go all in with Lexi and her books. There is no way that you will not adore them, too. ❤️

A short and steamy novella set in Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series as reality TV star Ally Pearson attracts the attention of a new stalker just as she’s about to start filming her big break in Houston. Enter stage left McKay Taggart bodyguard West Rycroft to protect her. Despite initially struggling to see beneath her screen persona it isn’t long before he gets to know the real Ally beneath the hype and they fall for each other.

Tempted was a quick and easy read with fabulous characters and some sizzle between the hero and heroine. I especially loved Ally and how her relationship with West gave her the inner strength to stand up for herself on set and be the kind of actress she wanted to be not what she was being forced into and I wanted to cheer when she stood up to the infamous Taggart. I loved the strong storyline of an escalating stalker and if anything I wish it had been fleshed out a bit more building up the suspense but for readers new to Lexi’s books then this is a good introduction.

5 ⭐️ tempted was short, fun and hot read (fanning myself)

Tempted is a novella set in the M&M series featuring West, a cowboy that now works for McKay-Taggart security and Ally, an up and coming actress trying to break away from her reality TV persona into a serious drama role. Ally is being stalked in LA and is heading to Dallas to shoot a new movie. Concerned with her welfare, her parents hire McKay-Taggart security to provide a personal bodyguard who is none other than West. Sparks fly from the moment they meet in the boardroom at M-T. It could be said that Ian might have egged the situation on a bit. Not wanting a bodyguard, Ally plays into her TV persona but West see through it, eventually. This book has the snarky humor, the hot romance and unwanted relationship advice from Ian that usually too close to the truth. I really loved how Ally quickly read Ian’s daughter, Kala, and provided the right advice and support to the teenager. As always, Lexi never fails to satisfy my desire for hot alpha guys and strong female, adding emotional depth to every story.

Of course I would jump into a series on #26.5, because I’m a chaotic mood reader all the way. But that just means I’m going to have to read all of the back list of this series because I’m in. It worked great as a standalone, but let me tell you, I want to know more about all of the couples that popped up and their stories. A romance that leaned towards romantic suspense, this had forced proximity, enemies (ish) to lovers, bodyguard/celebrity tropes. I loved it! I can’t wait to read my next book by Lexi Blake!

Ally is famous for being the bratty younger sister on her family’s reality tv show, but is trying to break out and show the world her acting chops. Unfortunately for her, she has a stalker that is escalating just as she is about to start her new movie role that will show of her serious acting chops. Her stepdad insists on hiring a bodyguard for her while she is on location in Dallas, but the most dangerous person is probably her new bodyguard this ex cowboy who had his mind made up about her before he even met her might just be the only one who can get to her heart.

4 Expectations Are Sometimes Better than Expected Stars!

What a quick and great read by Lexi Blake. I love being in the M & M world and this novella revolves around Ally and West. We met Ally in Bayou Sweetheart as she’s Brynn’s younger sister who’s finally getting her shot at stardom.

Unfortunately, with this chance she’s also attracted a stalker which leads to her getting a bodyguard in the form of West Rycroft from McKay-Taggert. And to say West isn’t happy about this assignment is putting it mildly… he fully expects Ally to be diva-like… but expectations aren’t met and Ally is the exact opposite.

I loved how Ally and West connected and as they spend more time together, not only do their feelings change to so much more than friendship but they’re able to figure out who her stalker is and what a glorious moment it is!!

There were moments I laughed and moments where I swooned and then I cheered when Ally really came into her own! What a wonderful addition to this series!

This is a novella set in the Masters and Mercenaries world that gives readers West and Ally’s story. It is a bit different from others in the series as it is not high intensity action but the pull to the characters is undeniable. Ally is an actress and that is all she has ever wanted to be. Unfortunately, she grew up in her sister’s shadow and has had to work hard to establish herself but she earned herself a “reputation.” Wes is a bodyguard with McKay-Taggert security, and he has certain opinions regarding the elite clientele that his company works with. From their first meeting, Wes believes all his preconceived notions about Ally. Ally is weary about whether she can trust Wes and let her guard down. However, the more time they spend together, they realize that everything is not as it seems and that you should not judge a book by its cover. Overall, this is a well written, fast paced storyline and includes some fan favorites sprinkled throughout. It hits home that when you find your person, you become the best version of yourself with the power of love.
