Such a shame

The main heroine is a dangerously ignorant narcissist that continually indulges in temper tantrums worthy of a 2 year old, she is a truly unlikeable person. The real shame is that the writing isn't bad just the character, it creates some unrealistic situations. Honestly it basically read like a 2 year old given leave to make decisions for herself as well as the entire world and people followed her. Such a shame 😞

GREAT, FAIR AND GREAT AGAIN

I titled it like this because the story line showed great promises, then it turned to be only fair - good, then it had great parts and so on. Some parts where irritating because here you have an evil elf doing his best to destroy everyone and the US can only drum up a few hundred men. Plus last I knew we had a lot bigger firepower then rifles and pistols, not to mention tanks and other armored vehicles. Putting that to the side I give it extra stars for being creative and making me come back. Do I recommend it yes. Is it a book I will read more then once no. The characters in the book will bring me a smile once in awhile.

Didn't wake my inner grammar nazi

Good read but, in an effort to drag it out over so many books, highly repetitive. Should have spent more time in actual descriptions of places and objects and, in keeping with a first person narrative, we never learn much about the various groups and just how things got the way they are. We can't learn anything the protagonist doesn't. And she never asks enough questions.

400 pages in

OK. I'm400 pages in and have to say the main character is just dumb. She is constantly saying and making the same mistake over and over again. I'm going to continue and update this review when and if I can finish the rest of this series.

DNF This is a no.

I couldn’t even get 2% into this boxed set of 9 books, I believe it is. I was on book 1 chapter 4 or 5 and I just couldn’t even deal with the ridiculousness.

************ S P O I L E R S ************

We open with a young lady of unknown age practicing karate. We soon learn, while she’s rushing from practice to get to her part time waitressing job, that she was adopted and ran away from home 10 years ago after discovering she was abandoned at a police station wrapped in a blanket inside of a cardboard box. She has white blond hair and pointy ears and has never really felt like she belonged in her higher middle lass family’s home or town so she ran away to LA where she was homeless for a spell.

Soon after arriving at her job, a creepy suspicious acting customer from the previous night who is rooming at the hotel beside the restaurant makes weird comments about the natural color of her hair and her ears. She thinks it’s creepy, but ultimately dismisses it. Later, she is accosted by another customer defends herself and gets fired for it within about an hour of her being at work… maybe even 30 minutes.

She waits for the bus, but when it doesn’t arrive when she wants it to, she opts to walk home, despite saying that she lives in one of the worst neighborhoods and it’s late at night. Soon, she feels she’s being followed and it turns out to be the creepy hotel guy.

He steals her bag instead of attacking her, she chases him down to retrieve all her valuable belongings where she discovers he stole her hairbrush only.

Here’s where it gets extra stupid. She doesn’t know where she is, despite have just ran past her very own apartment building and pulls out her phone’s map. She sees a building she doesn’t recognize as it’s listed on the map as a garden. She checks out the weird building, speculating that it must be some sort of government facility.

She goes inside, following a bright glowing light and finds an egg in a basket. Drawn to it, she decides to keep the egg and brings it up back to her apartment. She then takes pictures of it, trying to identify what animal laid the egg, and posts pictures of the egg stolen from the possible government facility ON THE INTERNET. Then she can’t fathom why her pc crashes shortly after or why her profile had been delete or why the photos have also disappeared from her phone!

Icing on the cake? As she is evading the agents after her, she gets elated at seeing a local city bus! The agents are running after her down the street, she sees the bus, hops on it and pays more than the fare, saying to keep the change just go now because she doesn’t want to be late… it’s a city bus… on a strict schedule…. How in the hell is he supposed to cater to that?

*************** END SPOILER ****************

With that final ridiculous scene, I had to leave. I do not recommend this series. I really thought it would be a good story.

A slow start, but the most captivating

Aera was just a waitress working to pay her rent, when someone changed her life forever.
Her life will never be the same.
She found and bonded with an egg, not just any egg, a Dragon egg!
Aera and the Dragon will be going through many tribulations and battles, through heartache, trying to find her birth parents, trying to find out why all of a sudden she fighting for her life and fighting a secret agency who is determined to rid the world of mythical creatures, elves, dwarfs, magical creatures, centaurs and any others that are in hiding staying under the radar so the men in black don't find them.
This set of books is I think takes about 80 hours in total to read.
You will be taken through every stage of her training, from being a nobody, to bring the most powerful being on the planet, with one thing in mind, to protect the planet and the people, being human or mythical against a dark elf who wants to make every human on earth to be slaves to all elves as they once was millennia ago.
The dark elf is trapped on a planet he controls, and is attempting to break through to this planet through portals in different countries, which are guarded by armies and elves with elemental powers.
There is a lot more to this story than meets the eye.
Take the plunge into this captivating story, which is full of intrigue , battling, rescuing, beating and failing, loving and hating, and above all, feelings of protection for fellow beings to stay safe.
I whole heartedly recommend you read this set of books...loved it!

Imagine discovering you are not human but an elf. More so, an elf that can do magic.
And who is not the only one.
An elf who made friends with a dragon, bonding with him.
This is the world Aella suddenly became aware of. And magic returned to Earth.
That is but only touching the tip of all the wonders still unfolding, like the hundreds of mythicals you will now co-exist with.
The Dragon of Shadow and Air comprises twelve books of wonder and strife as good and evil strife to possess an Earth that holds so many surprises that you cannot help but keep on paging through book after book after book
Enjoy.

I picked up this series looking for something to keep me busy and it did not disappoint! This series will take you on a wild ride with Aella as she navigates her life. It was a fun interesting read, it kept me on my feet and the writing kept me hooked. I will say the one con to all of this is how long it was. I truly do not think this series needed to be as long as it is for at times it felt as if the story line was being stretched as long as possible. There were also times where it felt like the characters were repeating themselves as well.
All that said, it was still a great read. Would read again! I would highly recommend this book!

fantasy

I read the whole series in a binge read, there were pros and cons to that. Pro the plot was fresh in mind and con, because each book is a standalone , there were repeats. My opinion is a book should stand on its own so the repeats are needed to make sense there were of course more pros and cons but these were the major ones for me. If I didn’t binge read all twelve books, the repeats would have been useful and necessary so not really a complaint, just a comment for another reader who gets a package deal of the books and binge reads.

need twelve stars FANTASTIC SERIES with human elves dragons dwarfs and other mystics

Aella was a different young woman not fitting in her world. That was because she was more than human but not knowing it. Until she resued a dragon egg and had to fight to save it until it hatched and bonded with her. This is the start of a fantastic new series. It bonds mythic peoples and human to fight a dark elf and save two worlds. If I say more I give the story away but this is right up with the best reads I have had.

Dragons and Elfs

I loved the way the Author was able to make you feel you were part of the story and as you read you begin to feel you too were magical and as you continue the series you start to think we instead of them. Characters are described as well as any you might have read about before and are so believable you begin to feel they really exist. A series that is worth every hour you immerse yourself in and you will as you continue to look forward to the next book in the series. A great read.

Great series, Well worth reading!

I enjoyed reading the complete series of Dragon of Shadow and Air. There were a few typos and glitches, not surprising in a set of 12 books!
I liked the humanity shown by Aella, even as she learned to express and grow into her Elven heritage and strength. Zephyr, her dragon companion, was also fascinating, as were her other bonded friends.
It took many many hours to read the entire series, but it was great to have them all in one place without having to keep going back for the next book in the boxed set. Well Done!

I was mesmerized!

I started reading th8s series by accident. Intending to read a different series until I was introduced to Aella Faye and Zephyr. Once I started reading their adventures and the plot twists that took you totally by surprise, I found it difficult to put the series away. Mythicals of every variety, dark elves, dragons and phoenixes, oh my! Starting from book one, Jess Mountfield and Talia Beckett takes the reader on a journey from Earth to the Elven home world. An awesome read. I truly hope there is more coming.

A captivating story line that kept me reading.

I wished for some more careful editing of the books, avoiding contradiction in the same or consecutive paragraphs and not stating the obvious. Aella's emotional journey and character development could also be improved to be more believable. For example, I didn't buy that minutes after she was crying over the death of a dear friend she laughs at a joke.

I really liked the climax of book 6, but the final climax in book 12 did disappoint a bit.

fantasy get away

I enjoyed the different characters. I liked the way they mesh together. The main character is very driven and open to learning. The story covering two worlds. This series has a lot to offer. I also enjoyed learning about the author. Wishing you the best and looking forward to see what you have to offer next.

Coming into her own.

I recommend this series to anyone who loves dragons and magic. The story follows a good line that all can follow. Mysticals, Elves, Gnomes and Dragons fill up this series and things happen on two worlds through portals. I like the ending with it's twists and turns.

Fantastic Fantasy Fiction!!

This is by far one of the most finely crafted series I have ever read. I'm at a loss to describe the ride. Don't start reading this if you shouldn't take time to relax and read -- Ms. Mountfield/Beckett will capture your imagination and warp your calendar... When you look back up from the book, it will be a different day.

DNF. Story had too many holes. I actually made it 1/2 way through book two before giving up. It was just way too repetitive, MC was ignorant and narcissistic. I just kept sighing through every chapter waiting for something different to happen. Not wasting any more of my time and moving on to something hopefully MUCH better. I definitely Do Not understand all of the 5 star ratings.

Really good story but repetitive after…

You had a really good story, but by the third of the way through it seemed like I was reading the same thing over and over in a different place maybe with different characters, but I’d finally skipped to the last book to get it over with, and nothing changed except ….

Great escapist urban fantasy series

Captivating story with all sorts of mythical creatures fighting for their freedom from humans. There are also further threats from elven sources which all have to be defeated if everyone can live in peace.

Couldn't finish. I think I made it to middle of book 2. The supposed age of the character with her instant knowledge of everything was too much for me to swallow. As was her need/guilt over keeping friends safe when it is their choice.

Really Good series!

What a great read. From her start to the end, this series of books is fast paced and hard to put down. Characters are fleshed out superbly. The feelings and actions of the individuals are spot on. Very well done!

Only read the first book. It was just boring and I just couldn't believe the story. I get that it's fantasy but this was just unrealistic. I mean in 4-5 days, she went from a down and out waitress, no powers to kicking butt with a baby dragon, and entourage of people that has her back. Yeah, ok.

Pretty good read

The events seemed to become redundant. Basically the same fight over and over. The characters development was established very early then did not seem to change. From one book to the next you knew what to expect...

Loved it. World building on an epic scale. Memorable characters, love and sacrifice, and all things great and small that should be in an epic story. I enjoyed it and recommend it. 👌
